What formats can the Mac DVD player App support/play?

I have a list of movies that I imported from my friend, and, I'm having a hard time trying to figure out which formats will work and which wont--totally not tech savvy enough to figure this one out.

Unless the movies are on a DVD disk, DVD Player is not your App. Quicktime is it. You should be able to simply double-click the file to open with QT Player - the Mac knows how! - ÇÇÇ

  • Airplay Mirroring and the Mac DVD player not working

Has anyone else experienced issues trying to airplay mirror the mac dvd player?  When I attempt to play a dvd while airplay mirroring is turned on the dvd player window just shows the checkerboard pattern and no video (this is on both the laptop screen and the tv screen).  If I take airplay mirroring off the dvd displays properly.

I had this same problem, and i read that it has to do with DRM. Even DVDs you make your self wont work because the DRM is set on the DVD player it self. You can use VLC and it should work, it worked with me. Anyways good luck.

how to get mac dvd player not to play all and stop at each title

    Play all chapters, i mean.
I have a DVD and I would like to just play a chapter, and discuss it, without the next chapter automatically starting. Usually DVD players have the "Play all" you can turn off and on...but I don't see it with the Mac player.

  • HT202856 Can the Mac Mini (Late 2014) support 4k display @ 60 Hz via the DisplayPort?

    Dear Experienced Apple Guru,
Apple made it clear on the Tech Specs for the Mac Mini (Late 2014) that a 4k display can be supported via the HDMI port at 30 Hz. But, can we also be clear how many Hertz the Mac Mini can handle with a 4k display via the Mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt 2)?
I have a site linked here saying that the DisplayPort 1.2 can handle up to nearly 20 Gbps, thus can handle 4k display at 60 Hz:
"DisplayPort version 1.2 can support video resolutions of up to 3840 x 2160 pixels (4K) at a refresh rate of 60 Hz, and it supports all common 3D video formats. In terms of bandwidth, it can manage 17.28 Gbps. Version 1.3, when it arrives, will support up to 8192 x 4320 (8K) resolution, or two simultaneous 4K streams. It will also double bandwidth to 32.4 Gbps.
Meanwhile, HDMI version 1.4 is the most common at the moment. This supports the same 4K resolution as DisplayPort 1.2, but at just 30 Hz (or 4096 x 2160 at 24 Hz). HDMI 2.0 is new on the scene in a few devices such as this Sony TV. This doubles the refresh rate to 60 Hz as well as increases bandwidth from 10.2- to 18 Gbps."
    Thanks,
    Trevalyn

That have enabled DP 1.2 on their monitor and used a DP 1.2 cable but still only get 30 Hz at 4K.
The MAC does not support MST

  • IDVD slideshows crash Mac DVD Player

So, I created my movie in iMovie, exported it to iDVD 8, and then I added two slideshows.
One slideshow has 110 pictures and the other slideshow has about 12 pictures.
Both slideshows play perfectly in iDVD preview mode and on my Panasonic DVD player.
But, when I try to play either slideshow on my MacBook Pro, both slideshows crash the Mac DVD Player.
I'm very frustrated with this. You would think that a DVD I create on my Mac can at least play on my Mac!
Any help will be most appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Paul

It's nice to know that someone is seeing a similar problem...misery
    loves company!
I've been creating slideshows in iDVD by dragging and dropping pictures
from iphoto, and the slideshows work great in the iDVD preview, on
my Panasonic DVD player, and my Playstation 2. But, the DVD crashes
the Mac DVD Player EVERY time. I've have problems with the DVD Player
in previous release, so this wouldn't surprise me. But, it would be nice
if the player worked with DVDs created by Apple's own software.
    Paul
Hi there, I've just installed iLife 08 on my iMac 20" 2.16, OS 10.4.10 with all
the updates through software update and I get the same problem before even
burning a disc! Any slideshow exported to iDVD from iPhoto makes the programme
bug out when you use the iDVD preview. Same photos dragged into iDVD to make the
slideshow there work fine. Also tried exporting quicktime from iPhoto and
importing into iDVD that way - also causes the crash (I don't even get a 'quit
unexpectedly' message) - there's obviously some problem with quicktime.

  • Digital noise in Logic after using Mac DVD player

I have Logic Pro 7.2, a dual 1.8 G5 with OS 10.4.7, 3GB of RAM, and loads of hard drive space. Every time I open a song in Logic after having watched a DVD using the Mac DVD player, all the instruments, both midi and audio instruments, just sound like static. If I trash all the Logic preferences and start over it clears it up but who wants to reset their preferences every time. Thanks, Steve.

Thanks to the two who have replied so far to my question. I'll check that out. By the way, I'm new to this, and I've got 67 messages from "Apple Discussions Subscriptions" since I posted this question. Can someone tell me how not to receive those messages. Thanks again, Steve.

  • HT202029 5.1 Setup in DVD Player app

Is there a way to set up the DVD Player App to play the surround mix on a DVD?  Or is it just the stereo version that is available?  I know that there is a 5.1 mix available on the disc.  There is no audio setup menu item on the disc.  I have played it on another app and can confirm that there is a surround mix on the DVD.  But I do not see any setup instructions in the help section.  I have a 5.1 audio interface and it plays in another app with 5.1.  But the picture is stuttering because it's a Blu-Ray app.  I can hear it in 5.1 on the Blu-Ray app but it's in stereo on the DVD Player app.  Features/Audio does not offer 5.1 as an option on the DVD Player app.
I also attempted to set it up according to the instructions on this page:
    support.apple.com/en-us/HT202029
Under preferences/disc setup it says System Sound Output.  The only other option is Digital Input into my TV monitor.  Still playing in stereo.
On a separate note, I am looking for a way to get the digital output of my TV to my interface via the digital outputs, but I will need a converter.  I am using a Apogee Symphony I/O as an interface.

ok for some reason the audio output options under disc setup in the dvd player preferences are now adjustable and I got it to work, but when I tried it before the audio output options were faded, meaning you can't change them for some reason. Oh well, at least it works.

  • MAC DVD player stops networks connections...no answers in Safari.

This is a constant and repetitive error.
Everytime that I play the any DVD in the DVD player (application version 5.0.3, system version 5.0.6) Safari goes down,. there is no answser if I continue browsing in Safari.I am connected via Airport, and there are no other users browsing -access by ethernet card-
If I remove the DVD and quit DVD player my network connections are restarted, and safari responds ok.
So I can not browse in safari or access internet if I am runing the MAC DVD Player...
    amazing, no?

    I have the same problem.
Apparently, the "Digital Out" channel cannot be shared by multiple running applications, the first one starting takes it and keeps it. You have to stop it to allow an other (single) application to use it instead.
To me it is a bug : the front most application should take the Digital Out channel, and release it when an other one becomes front most, but this bug has apparently being going on for a long time, and Apple does not seem interested in its correction.
    Poor HTMac users...

  • Works in Simulator, doesn't work in Mac DVD player

Never seen this before--the Simulator actually works fine, all links and menu calls are flawless. The Video TS in the Mac DVD player, however, menu calls and a couple of links do not work.
The dvd should be fine, I burned one yesterday and all of this stuff was fine on the disk, just had to go back and make a couple of changes today.
    Anyone seen this before?

I have seen this kind of thing happen before. You should definately try deleting and old builds when you compile. A couple times i had to delete the parse files and let the project reparse to get the dvd to behave properly after the build.
sometimes i could only get the project to work by deleting the offending menus and rebuilding and relinking them.

  • After installing Maverick, my downloaded movies will not play in Quick Time.  It gives me the following error "You can't open the application "QuickTime Player.app" because it may be damaged or incomplete."  What can I do?

After installing Maverick, my downloaded movies will not play in Quick Time.  I receive the following error message:
You can’t open the application “QuickTime Player.app” because it may be damaged or incomplete.  So I tried to unistall QT and I get an error that says, You can not delete this application as it is a requirement for the OSX.
Well I did find a way to delete it, by going into the various components and one by one deleting it.  Now I reinstall it and  the message is that this Quick Time is for an earlier version before Maverick 7.  SMH....Now what.?

    Hello, terrygav.
I would recommend processing a reinstall of Mavericks.

  • Hello..Does anyone in this community know what the following error code indicates   0x8002006E   I was trying to burn a DVD from files in a burn folder. They were pictures from my Nikon camera. I can play videos and movies from the same dvd player.

I was trying to burn a DVD from files in a burn folder. They were pictures from my Nikon camera. I can play videos and movies from the same dvd player.    Thanks for any help you can offer,

    Thanks for your reply:
I did find an error log related to the error code and tried all suggestions on the list of recommendations, still no luck
I definitely am running OS X10.5.8 (hopefully will be updating later on this month)
I tried several brand new discs from the same box, still no luck.
My last option is to go out and try a different brand, guess I'll go with Verbatim this time but I think I'll poke around some more before buying 20 more new discs.

  • What format shiould i burn dvd in to play in blueray player? Using MacX DVD Ripper Pro and Handbrake

what format should i burn dvd in to play in blueray player? Using MacX DVD Ripper Pro and Handbrake

MacX DVD Ripper Pro and Handbrake
Neither is suitable for burning DVDs or BluRay media. They are DVD rippers/converters, not DVD authoring tools.  Handbrake doesn't produce any format suitable for DVD Authoring.   And while MacDVD Ripper can create .mov files even that's not a guarantee the file can be used for DVD authoring.  You need DVD Authoring software like Roxio Toast to burn DVDs or BluRay disks.
Most BluRay players can play both standard def DVDs and high def BluRay disks.  Which kind do you want to burn?  And what exactly is your source media (video) that you want to burn?
And if you want to burn BluRay disks, you need a BluRay burner.

  • I have a video in .avi format, what format do I need to convert to, to play on my DVD recorder, please can anyone help?

I have a video in .avi format, but what format do I need to convert to, to play on my DVD recorder, please can anyone help?

tylerfrombalantine's post had zero grammar in it, so it's not clear what he's saying. I bought a DVD recorder and the instruction manual lists all the disc formats it can play. Check your DVD recorder manual to see what works with it, then burn a DVD that matches. It should be fine to burn just a standard DVD, since of course any DVD player can play that.
Depending on the program you use, you may not have to convert anything manually. The program might convert your current video format to DVD on fly as it burns the disc.

  • Can the Mac mini's Super Drive (Early 2006) *read* DVD-R discs?

I made a back-up of a movie and burned it on to a DVD-R. I took the burned DVD and popped into my DVD player in the living room and it played just fine. I then put the burned DVD back into my mini, DVD Player.app opened and when I clicked play said the disc was invalid/unsupported (I’m not in front of my mini so don’t have the exact wording of the error). The DVD never even mounts on my desktop or Finder side bar. I went back and referenced the tech specs for my model and it reads:
    Slot-loading SuperDrive with double-layer support (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
That just seems strange that it would burn to a DVD-R with no problem, but then not be able to read it.
I’ve put other DVD-R’s in the drive to test and the same thing. I had a back-up copy of my iPhoto library that I burned on my PowerBook on a DVD-R and this disc never mounted. I can only push the eject key on my keyboard to get the DVD out.

I think I found my answer over at 123macmini.com
    Slot-loading SuperDrive with double-layer support (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW):
writes DVD+R DL discs at up to 2.4x speed,
writes DVD-R and DVD+R discs at up to 8x speed,
writes DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs at up to 4x speed,
reads DVDs at up to 8x speed,
writes CD-R discs at up to 24x speed,
writes CD-RW discs at up to 16x speed,
reads CDs at up to 24x speed
