What Gartner is saying about Oracle Forms

An interesting post here:
https://blogs.oracle.com/grantronald/entry/gartner_report_on_oracle_forms

Could they be more vague? :-) The trouble with the industry now is its fragmenting terribly.
"Migrate next-generation development projects to industry-dominant technologies (for example, Java, Microsoft .NET and open-source software) to align with industry best practices in the future."
I was surprised to hear it is a widespread opinion that dot net is on its way out and MS is allegedly moving towards
c++ . Must we always be going from one on its way out thing to another? Both java and dot net are very aged. So that leaves "open-source software"? I don't think they have much credibility with that level of vagueness.
I'm thinking javascript is up and coming. That's about the only clear leader technology I see.

  • What is so good about Oracle Database?

    Dear Sir,
The project that I'm working on is using Oracle database. Therefore, I don't have not much experience in other rdbms.
Sometime my customer ask, what is so good about oracle compare to others like ms sql server, sybase, informix, mysql and so on.
So, hope someone can give some distinctive strength about Oracle database. This is important for me as well as customer so that we can understand that why using Oracle database is the right choice.
    Please advise.
    Thanks.

i use napster to discover new music. if i really like it, i track down the CD. 28k wma's or mp3s or whatever sound pretty bad. you're not right about them sounding like cassettes. i think you are forgetting just how bad cassettes sound. most 28k's i've heard sound better then cassettes, but paying $9.99 for 28k tracks....NO WAY. $3 for 28ks? sure the upside of 28ks over cassettes tho is the fact that you can transfer the files around from player to player and mp3s dont get stretched out in the sun :smileyvery-happy:

  • Need information about Oracle Forms & Reports server installation

    Hello Friends,
First of all I am very new user for oracle forums, So please ignore if I posted wrong place.
We are using Oracle Database 10g and Oracle forms & Reports server 6i version.
We just purchased oracle forms & reports (currently known as a Oracle Fusion middleware) license.  As per my knowledge latest version doesn't support Oracle 10g database.
My question is can somebody give me Oracle Database 10g supported Forms & Reports version?
    We are planning to upgrade.
    Help would be really appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards.

Thanks a lot for prompt response.
I get my answer from your certification matrix.  I appreciate your response.
Now second question arise that We are using currently Database version of 10.2.0.1.0.
And in a certification matrix shows supported version Oracle 10.2.0.4+.
Now I am bit confused that currently working database supports or not?
Still i am trying to install on My window 2008 R2 with IIS 7.0.
    Let me check what happens.
Again Thanks a lot to ccortez and PaulM  for your quick response and help.

  • What is Applecare saying about RSD?

Now that the RSD problem was acknowledged by Apple, and that they are telling people to call Applecare if it happens, can someone tell us what they are saying when you call?
    Thx.

I called last night and the apple care rep told me "you qualify for a new logic board" I asked about the heat sink problem of which she had no info. She said she hadn't heard many RSD complaints.
I think the answer you get really depends on who you talk to at Applecare. Hopefully, though, the repair depot has a standard stance on this. I'd be really disappointed to have the macbook returned with a new logic board, no new heatsink and recurring RSD. I'll only be in the United States for 3 weeks and I'm really hoping they get my macbook fixed correctly during this time, because otherwise I'm going to have a loooong wait for international shipping and it seems that Thai mac service is a bit behind the latest reapair news. I'll hope for the best. With Apple we deserve nothing less

  • What does apple say about maintaining a macbook pro?

Where can I find apple's maintenance advice on caring for a macbook pro? I would like honest advice about how to get my laptop running fast again. I would also like to know what the facts are about permissions and why I have 5 that will not remain repaired despite the utility telling me they are repaired but further verification shows they are still not correct or have been undone. If anyone could send me a link to a good website that is not trying to sell me third party software that would be really appreciated. Also, if anyone has information on why laptops slow down in general that would be helpful.
Lastly, if anyone can solve my reoccuring permission annoyance I would be very appreciative:

  • About oracle forms

    hello,
i have created menus in oracle forms using menu editor, now i want to show the created menu in the form while running ,how can i show menu in the form,
    reply soon please

save and compile your menu module.
open the property sheet of the form to which you want to attach them menu,
On the "Menu Module" property give the full path of the menu you want to attach.
if the menu is in the same path where your forms modules are then just give the menu module name.

  • What's Apple saying about the 34 admitted errors in Intel CPUs?

I'm reading a lot about Core Duo and Core Solo errors. 34 of them. Intel intends to fix just one of them.
I'm yet to find an Apple article on the issue.
I had been contemplating adding an Intel Mac to my stable but I'm pretty certain I'll not be rushing into this until Apple makes a statement to relieve my concerns.
    PMG5 2x2.5 +30 Cinema   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Well, I'm not so sure. Owners of new Intel Macs
certainly appear to be having problems.
Those problems are unrelated to the flaws in the Core Duo.
Processor flaws are "normal", you can't build a chip with several million transistors on it without there being a few problems. That said, the flaws are really edge cases and you'd have to be doing something downright weird to encounter most of them.
It's also worth noting that more than half of the flaws can only be encountered if the processor is in debug mode.
I'll wait for the Apple statement.
I very much doubt you'll get one. They didn't release a statement for the 24 known flaws in the G5 or the 36 known flaws in the G4.
If you hold off buying a computer because the processor has flaws then you'll never buy a computer.
I suspect what's happened here is that a journalist who doesn't understand what's going on found an Intel errata sheet and started yelling about the sky falling. Since most people never hear about these flaws they assume that they're indicative of a broken design. The truth is that nothing is out of the ordinary, there is nothing to be worried about.

  • Comparison between Oracle Forms and HTML DB

Something that has always puzzled me...
What is the difference between Oracle Forms 10g and HTML DB from a functionality perspective?
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/index.html
The underlying architecture, technology used, etc might be different, but from the user's point of view, dont they both do pretty much the same thing?
Why did Oracle take the time & effort to invest in building HTML DB from the ground up (with its mod_plsql, webdb, etc earlier pedigree) instead of just investing in Oracle Forms which has a well-established history, customer base?
    Thanks

This is purely a layman's perspective, but after using Developer Forms 10g intensively for about 9 months, and now just recently getting into HTML DB, my opinion is this:
HTML DB is really really great for 'quick and dirty' forms and reports deployment when there's not a lot of validation to be done. Not to say you can't do any kind of validation, I just personally don't find it intuitively easy to implement after using Developer forms so much. So far doing the layout has been hard for me, as I'm used to the 'drag and drop' aspect of Oracle Forms, but once you have your layout set, it pretty much takes care of resizing itself when your application is viewed on various screen sizes and resolutions.
Developer forms has been, for me, way easier to use to accomplish all the validations I need using PL/SQL (you can use java, too, but I haven't learned enough java yet to do that). However, it's more demanding to deploy. You have your application server to maintain, you have to copy over your forms modules, your menu modules, your library modules, make sure everything is compiled properly so your form doesn't crash when someone navigates from one field to another, etc. Also, from a dynamic layout perspective, it's a little harder to design for various screen sizes, resolutions, etc. The html in HTML DB takes care of that for you.
So basically I'm finding that each technology fills a certain niche better than the other. The fun is in trying which technology fits with which niche.

Hi I would like to find information on what is necessary to do in order to migrate Forms 10g 9.0.4 to 10.1.2.
Do I need to use Oracle Migration assistant ?
Is it enough only compile forms ?
Where I find documentation on how to execute this migration. I am only find documentatio to migrate from 6i to 10g, but I need documentation to migrate from Forms 10g 9.0.4 to 10.1.2.

    Hi,

  • JDev vs. Oracle Forms

    Hello,
Can any body reveal strategic question about
Oracle Forms and forms in JDeveloper.
I mean somethink like "when should I use what"?
    According to Oracle's Internet strategy
Java is a prime concern for development and
here is some misunderstanding for me.
From perspective it is obviously to use JDeveloper.
But for what reason and what prespective should
I start new project with Oracle Forms?
    Thanks in advance.

    Michel,
Question 1 - the file will no longer be useable with Reports 10g - you will loose everything.
Question 2 - No, newer versions of Oracle Forms and Reports are not backward compatible with older versions.
Question 3 - No, see answer to question 2.

  • Oracle Forms Future

Does anyone know about Oracle Forms Future like is going to stay or go away? I don't see many jobs for Oracle Forms developer.

Per the current INFORMATIONWEEK issue, one survey said:
Pay for application development and programming skills has increased about 4% in the past year--and pay specifically for rapid application development and extreme programming skills has jumped about 9% over the last six months, Foote (president of Foote Partner co.) says.
Also driving up pay for application development is the fact that many companies that sent development work offshore in recent years haven't realized the savings they expected. "Offshoring has gotten a black eye. Half the companies who did it didn't get the numbers they thought," he says.
If considering the RAD, forms/reports is good one. As with CELL chip floods the industry as well as the new optical fiber network, then the forms/report application may run fast if it can survive to that time.

    Forms Product Management

Oracle Forms is quit impressive as both a client/server and web-based solution. I have yet to see an application run over the web the way Oracle Forms does. It appears as a client/server application, except it's completely web-based.
That's quite amazing, however, I have found that the rich interface and the sophistication of running Forms over the web comes with a big cost. The 8MB Jinitiator download turns a lot of people off.
What I'm really wondering is if there is anyone out there who is using Oracle Forms as a web solution ?
    Thanks for your time.
