What Generation is My MacBook?

Hi there,
I'm wanting to upgrade the RAM in my MacBook. The website I'm wanting to buy it from asks what generation the laptop is, I'm assuming its a different type of RAM. What's the easiest way of finding this out? I bought the laptop in October 2006 (UK). Any ideas? Sorry if its really obvious and not worthy of its own topic...
Thanks!

One of these tree ones (october 17):
1.83GHz MacBook (MA254LL/A) 2GHz MacBook (MA255LL/A) 2GHz MacBook (MA472LL/A)

  • What is the last generation of Retina MacBook Pro that have replaceable parts such as hard drives and memory?

I am interested in purchasing a used (probably refurbished) Retina MacBook Pro. Probably from the Apple Online Refurbished store.
Can anyone tell me what generation of Retina MacBooks were the last that had upgradeable parts such as hard drives, memory, etc.? Preferable in the terms of month/year like Apple states in their refurb section. I am aware that  the remaining non-Retina MacBook is upgradeable.
As an example, here is a link to some I am considering:

  • How do i tell what generation my Macbook air 13" is?

I have no idea how to figure out what generation my macbook air is and i am currently looking to buy a protective case for it but would like to know the generation of my mac to make sure it fits snug.

You can find the model from the apple menu, About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware Overview.
If you need more details, then look in http://www.everymac.com for your model and model designator.

  • Should I get a 2013 macbook air, a macbook pro 13 inch, a regular macbook pro or wait for the next generation of haswell macbook pros?

So im a little confused, i dont know what macbook should i get.
    I want a macbook for:
    surf the web
Do some school work like powerpoint, excel, word etc.
    store music and pictures
This macbook i will probably have it for like 3 years so i wanna make sure the macbook i choose will last.
I really would like a macbook pro but the thing is that i`ve have been hearing that a new generation of retina macbook pros will be coming this fall so i wanna know your opinion if it is worth waiting for the next gen of macbooks.
    thanks

For what your doing, a $400 PC laptop will do and if it gets lost or stolen (as long as you make backups) it's really no big deal. Buy another.
A Mac will set you back almost $2000 for the same performance by the time you thrown in the 3 year warranty, tax and backup drives etc.
The higher end Mac's closer to $3000.
Also after 3 years after spending so much money you want to fix it to keep it going, a cheap PC you just get a new one.
In some instances it's not smart to get a Mac, they are often a target for theft and if your young, your prey.

  • Last Generation of Unibody Macbook Pro

    Hello,
I just found out that newest generation of notebooks/Macbooks are no longer supporting upgradeable parts, such as HD and RAM.  I was wondering if anyone knows what the last generation of Macbook and Macbook Pros allowed users to upgrade their HD and RAM.  Let me know!  Thanks for the response!
    Chad

True it does not say one way or the other, but I am willing to wager the farm that I can install new RAM and a new HDD in any of those MBPs.
Understand that Apple never on the web site advertising have mentioned this capability for any of the MBPs since their introduction in 2006.  However they have given instructions on how to do so in the users manual.
    Ciao.
Should you have any doubts, select the newest conventional MBPs from this Video list and watch how it is done.

  • Can i use my new ipod nano 7th generation on my macbook pro

I registered my new ipod nano 7th generation on my macbook pro.  While on my macbook, I tried to download wma audiobooks from the library using overdrive media console & its not working.....so, I decided to use my windows laptop.  I have the latest version of itunes on both laptops.  (I know I can download & transfer wma audiobooks to my shuffle using overdrive media console & windows laptop.)  I'm getting an error message that says I have to reformat my nano if I want to download wma audiobooks.  Can I use my nano on macbook pro & windows laptop?  will I ever be able to download wma audiobooks to my nano using macbook?

Your iPod Nano will need to be restored in iTunes on the Windows laptop before you can start adding/syncing content over to it.
Or if you want to use it with OverDrive on the Mac, you'll need to download the books as MP3s as WMA is not supported.

  • How Do I Find Out What Build Week My MacBook Is ?????

    Hi People,
i was just wondering if anyone could help me find out what build week my macbook is as some people are having problems with there macbook and they are saying it has something to do with the build week my macbook will be a week old on the seventh of november can anyone help me please ?????

Personally, I don't place any weight on the build week of your MacBook. Mine was ordered the day they were announced and I haven't had a single issue with it whatsoever. So, bear in mind that the reports you see here are ONLY from people having problems. You're not going to see many posts here from the hundreds of thousands of folks who are not experiencing any problems with their MacBook from any week. And just worrying about your build week and waiting for something to go wrong is just not healthy behavior for an adult.
With that said, Apple doesn't like people deconstructing their serial numbers, especially here in Apple's forum, so this topic may disappear or be locked. But, the "build" year and week is in your serial number. It's probably something like X635XXX... That would make it 2006 and the 35th week.

  • How to find out what generation my Classic is ?

Can anyone advise me how I find out what generation my iPod Classic is ? Is there a website I can check with ?
    Many thanks,

Hi Niel, the article I get directed to, doesn't really explain the difference between 6th and 7th generation Classics. Is there anywhere (maybe on the Apple website) I can input the Serial Number and Part Number to be exact ?

  • How do you know what generation your iPod touch is?

I have just bought an iPod Touch - my first iPod of any type.  How do you know what generation it is? There is nothing on the packaging and the only clue in the 'About' screen appeared to be the version 4.3.3.  I am trying to purchase a universal dock adapter and need to know the generation in order to get the right one.

Why do apple refer to the products by generation and then not actually include that information on the product?
    beats me.
you can inform Apple of your displeasure by leaving a comment via iPod Touch Feedback.

How can you tell what generation your Apple TV is and what the version IOS it is running? Thanks for any help!

In the link provided, there is a section which tells which model you have; e.g.
    Apple TV (3rd generation)
    Year introduced: Early 2012
    Color: Black
    Model number on bottom:
A1427 for Apple TV (3rd generation)
