can anyone please advise me What generation is my windows ipod 10 GB model no a1019. Is it 1 or 2, there seems to be a lot of mystery around the model number, but i have clearly read the model no on the back of the ipod as a1019.

See Identifying iPod models. It doesn't help that 7th generation isn't Apple terminology. The 2007 version is fatter than the Late 2009 version.

I have had similar issues with mine, happens mainly if I transfer songs and then decide to disconnect my iPod to listen to them with my IEMs (I use Interenet Explorer in my case and it is not neccessarely up when this happens, so I seriously doubt it is an issue conencted to the web browser). I have no patience for this so my trick is I try to eject it from iTunes, if that does not work, then I bring Windows explorer up, right mouse click on the iPod mounted drive and select Eject. It gives me the same warning but there is a third button selection called Continue. When I choose that it just disconnets the drive anyway and the iPod is finally disconnected. It seems to work each and every time I do it so this solution is fine for me. Would be intersting to see what the real root cause of this is because I started getting this problem with the newer iTunes 11.

i dont know what generation my ipod touch is but its 8gb . the features are built in camera in both sides. So i was wondering if you guys know what generation i have. its also because i dont have the new updates (icloud and i message) i dont no how to accsess them? and if i want the new updates do i need to reset my ipod touch?

If it has a front facing camera, it's definitely a 4th generation. You'll love iOS 5 once you update . To update, all you need to do is plug it in to a computer and launch iTunes. It should let you know there's an update available. If you are not prompted to update, you can click on the name of your iPod under the DEVICES section on the left in the iTunes window. Then click on Check for Updates (may also say "Update").

Here is help for the operating system:
If you are locked to iOS 3 then you have an iPod Touch 1st Gen.
If you are locked to iOS 4 then you have an iPod Touch 2nd Gen.
If you are locked to iOS 5 then you have an iPod Touch 3rd Gen.
If you are locked to iOS 6 then you have an iPod Touch 4th Gen.
If you can get iOS 7 and have an iPhone 5 sized screen [bigger] you have the current iPod Touch 5th Gen.
I assume since it says you have iOS 5.1.1 you have an iPod Touch 3rd Gen.
Also, you may want to sync it so iTunes can tell you or you can look at the model number on the back.

my question is I have a 5G iPod and when making a playlist, how can I repeat the song a few times in a row in making the playlist. the + can only be pressed once [and then not red or clickable].
I went into edit playlist and pressed red repeat option on bottom left and options came up [cancel, repeat playlist, repeat song, repeat off] and I pressed repeat song option and it clicks and now has pink box. that looked promising but it still doesn't end up on the playlist.
I clicked on the repeat off option at top of list of options- it clicks, but stays the same- saying repeat off, and does not appear to do anything in terms of adding to a playlist on edit mode.
I went into setting to try to see if it was locked somehow but could not find it.
after trying to edit - add songs in [duplicate as above] I press the done bottom. but then see it has not added the songs I clicked pink box/repeat to original playlist.
This is my first playlist since an old nano!
