What good video cards fit G5 Dual cpu

what good video cards fit G5 Dual cpu
can i have a link to a UK website selling what your suggesting or just  give me the name and i can look it up

Thanks for this post/response. The 7800GT card I currently have was a build to order option and I assume was not flashed. I'd love to figure out if there is a
way to get my current card to like the MXO box, or to install a new, equally fast video card that would allow me to use MXO. I may install an x1900 Mac Edition and see how it works but do want to hear from other late edition G5 owners that they have been happy with this card (running OS 10.4.11, Final Cut Pro).

  • New Video Card for G5 dual 2.3  PCIex running Matrox MXO box

Greetings. I have an HDV project and purchased an MXO to allow viewing
on external monitor. The MXO did not work with my GeForce 7800 video card
and I spent over an hour with Matrox tech support and they also sent me
a second MXO box. The CPU does not appear to see the MXO and we were unable to see any signal (i.e. color bars during set up)
My question: Has anyone found a way to integrate
    MXO into a FCP set-up like mine? I'm running a G5 2.3 late, 6 gig ram,
FCP 6.04 and this video card mentioned above. The second part of question:
If I need to replace video card, has anyone done this with my particular G5 and had good success? I have found on the Matrox site that one user has put an
ATI 1900x into his G5 and they also support a lesser card GeForce 6600. I do not
want to take a step back with any modification and want to make sure my system which funs very smoothly now is not compromised. Thanks for any experience and insight into this.

  • Streaming G5 through a TV- do you need a good video card?

    Hi Everyone
I recently fried my videocard (thanks so much to everyone here who helped me with that issue), just as I bought a DVI-Svideo adaptor that would allow me to stream my G5 through my TV.
Unfortunately, my videocard was the Radeon 9600 card - a fairly high end model used for gaming and such. I thought I should just replace it (despite the high cost - over $400) as it would likely make my viewing movies on my TV that much better.
Problem is, NOBODY in vancouver seems to have these cards, and I've already waiting 3 weeks for one on backorder. Half of me wants to just go buy one on ebay as opposed to waiting for this local supplier to recieve one.
Before I turn to Ebay- I thought I should ask the experts... do you need a high end video card to watch video on a TV through your G5? Or would the extra video card power only be viewable if I was gaming or using Aperture or something like that?
Frankly, I don't do much photo editing - the extent of my use would be videos and youtube.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for any advice.
    Cheers
    Powermac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I have my dual 2.5ghz G5 hooked up to my 42inch HDTV plasma.
I have the 256mb Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL.
so I can run the apple cinema 30inch also.
what i noticed to be a deffance when i hook it up to my tv.
depending on how new the tv is.
pixel ratios are affected by how good your videocard is.
The better the card the higher pixel quality you will have on you TV.
I have my TV hooked up DVI to HDMI. at a 1920X1080 P
The quality is if i have an HDTV 460P tv show downloaded.
The quality if pretty amazing when i run it on my tv.
The higher the qualit of video card the better the qaulity on the tv.
The better the TV the better the qaulity. they both factor.

  • Good Video Card on a Budget?

I'm interested in getting a new video card for my pc. Currently i'm using a nvideo geforce 7050 which is pretty good for a built-in card but i'd like to get something better. some games i play are only going at 10fps so iwas wondering if i could do a decent upgrade on a budget. I've only got around $70 so first i'm thinking is that, is this possible? Second if it is, what should i be looking for: built-in memory, core speed...
I've been looking at newegg's deals:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2&N=2010380048
and it looks like PCI express is the way to go now. I'd like to get an Nvidia card because I've had so good of an experience with Nvidia on Linux, but have seen some good things on ATI too. Any thoughts?

The computer does have a PCI express slot and thanks for the tip about looking at the core as i didn't know they did that.
Did a bit of research and learned a few things.  First off that the versioning (8400...) tells what features the card has (core [usually],dx10, vdpau...) and that GS/GT/GTS are for clock speeds.  GTS prices are... well, out of the budget.  But a good GT card will be able to boost things quite a bit.  Currently I'm getting ~10fps for wow, 40fps for Urban Terror, and ~15fps on Doom3 at a horrible 640x480, so there's definitely room for improvment.
The GeForce 9500 looks pretty good and been thinking about the Geforce 9600 which is pretty much a trimmed down 8800 GTS.  Couldn't find any reviews of the 9600 gso for gaming so i'm not sure about that.  I'm going to look at ebay and see just what i can find there.

  • Need help with video card for my dual 1.8 G5

Ok, I've spent the last hour and a half searching around and really haven't found what I was looking for, although, it's probably right under my nose and I'm a moron. Anyways, here goes...
I have a dual 1.8 G5 and I'd like to add an extra video card. From what I've read, the "stock" location for the video card is AGP, but all three of the other expansion slots are all PCI-X, is that correct? I also, thought I had read that a Radeon 9200 PCI or a Sonnet Sonata SD will work in the PCI-X slot, is that true for just those particular video cards or will any PCI card work? If that's not the case, does any body know what options I have? I've spent a lot of time lurking on these forums and you guys have helped tremendously in the past, so I thank you in advance for any help you guys can give.
    Aaron

    Hi,
That G5 Mac will accommodate 66/33MHz Mac Edition PCI cards.
•The Sonnet Sonata is a 16MB VRAM card and will work in either a 33 or 66MHz slot, so it's okay. Slow, but okay.
•The ATI RADEON 9200 PRO 128MB MAC EDITION PCI card is a better choice because it has 128MB VRAM and is much faster. Unfortunately it's difficult to find new ones at the moment. There are several used ones on Fleabay right now for under $89.
•There are other PCI cards that will work too, like the ATI Radeon 7000 Mac Edition 32MB PCI model as seen on Fleabay as item # 200046086081. That's probably your cheapest choice.
Just make SURE you get a Mac Edition, a PC type will not work.
Adding another PCI card will have zero effect on graphic performance of the AGP video card. Each AGP or PCI slot stands alone, and will only affect the monitor it's attached to. PCI slots are much slower than AGP slots (8X slower) in G5's.
    Regards,
    Dave

  • What AGP video cards work with the MEGA PC

    Hi,
I am a newbie to this forum and a new owner of a Mega PC651.  I will be configuing it with the following:
    512 MB DDR 2100 RAM
    Celeron 2.4Ghz CPU
    Digital Research Technologies DVD+-RW/+-R
I want to play 3D games like C&C Generals with the system but am afraid that the SIS651 will not support them.
I have a ATI 9700 All-in-wonder Card in my son's computer but am concerned about heat generation in the Mega PC after reading several reviews. Also, I think that he will be very angry if I steal his card.
Can anyone recommend a moderately priced Video card MSI or other that will fit and will not cause any heating problems?
    Thanks,
    Charlie G

Windows XP supports up to AGP 8x.
I have a 9600 pro at the moment. I don't think that VGA silencer will work - if it takes up the PCI slot, then there will be nowhere for the cooler to draw air from because it will be pressed up against the case.
I am currently running my 9600 pro without any additional cooling and it seems to be doing ok. I did have a unit somewhat like this:
    http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-bin/frozencpu/slf-01.html
It definately helped the cooling but the noise began to get to me. I recently sorted out my CPU cooling problems and so the main source of noise was my system exhaust above. I have taken it out and have been playing several high graphics games with no problems yet.
As for only supporting up to 4x, the 9600 pro will not be dragged back much. When it gets to the point that games require more than 4x speed to pass full detail for a decent framerate, the 9600 pro will start to struggle anyway. You will have a slight performance decrease, but nothing that will turn a game from being playable to un-playable. I would have bought a better card but the 4x speed would limit the cards actual power so there wouldn't have been any point.

  • What (cheap) video cards to steer clear of?

    Hi,
I've got an onboard Intel video card which isn't really good.
Suppose I decide to buy something cheap, and I don't care to waste another $30, say. What kind of keywords I should steer clear of? I've got good impression of my old Nvidia 6800 onboard chip, but it's gone. Some research shows that Nvidia can be a problem, to.
The world of video cards is huge, and they are usually good. But not always. I hope my question is put reasonably. What are the most known problems, in keywords?

So the idea of collecting some info on the bad ones didn't turn out to be popular . Meanwhile, I bought this:
    $ lspci -v -s `lspci | awk '/VGA/{print $1}'`
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GT218 [GeForce 210] (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device 83e8
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16
            Memory at fa000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M]
            Memory at c0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
            Memory at d0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=32M]
            I/O ports at e000 [size=128]
[virtual] Expansion ROM at fb000000 [disabled] [size=512K]
            Capabilities: <access denied>
            Kernel driver in use: nvidia
It's probably OK, though the fonts look just a shade different. As a movie player it's quite good.

  • Screen Distoring, Possible Dead Video Card, PowerMac G5 Dual 2.7

I've had my Dual 2.7 G5 since early 2005. It has been a great computer for me over the years. Noisy as ****, but great. A month ago my screen started to distort every now and then (see pics below). The computer would freeze when the screen distorted. Then when I would reboot, the distortion and artifacting would occur even at the grey boot up screen and lock up. With enough reboots it would finally get back to the desktop and be fine for a few days. This no longer works anymore. I haven't successfully booted the computer in over 2 weeks. After the distorted grey boot screen it will go black and all you see is the artifacts, never getting to the desktop. Is this a dead video card? I'm running the stock AGP Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT.

If this is a dead video card, do you have any suggestions for the best AGP replacement. I'm looking for something powerful. All I'm finding are very pricey 256mb cards. I'm willing to pay for a powerful card. Thanks very much. I don't want to give up on this G5!

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
    Agreed, the card is toast.
Look on eBay for used OEM cards, as that is your best bet.
The same card is a good choice, with only the Mac edition Radeon X800XT or X850XT being more powerful.
There is yet another alternative, that in a flashed Geforce 7800 GS, which is THE most powerful AGP card available for Macs.
For the money, a flashed 7800 GS is the best bet.

I don't think you're going to find a new one anywhere.
Depends which Dual G5 2.0 you have as to whether it's AGP or PCIe needed.

  • Which Video Card for G5 dual 2ghz?

Would there be a significant difference between running Aperture with the ATI RADEON X800 Mac Edition - 256MB 8X AGP Pro Video Card and running it with the ATI RADEON 9800XT 8X AGP 256MB Video Card?
There is a big difference in cost.

my G5 is like yours and i do occasionally get it ... not nearly like i did with my old card (9650) but more frequently than my MBP (which is virtually NEVER) ...
the X800XT is the BEST card that you can get for an AGP G5 ...
barefeats.com has test results about this card, but that won't give you your real world experiences ... my experiences are positive, very positive and i work with 5D RAW files ... ~12MB ...
there are a lot of threads in this forum where people give their experiences with the X800XT ...

  • What video cards will the p7-1423w support?

I would like to upgrade my video graphics to something that will support Witcher 2.  I picked up a video card but then realized the power consumption is too great for this pc.  Any suggestions on what card I can get that will support this type of graphics?  (It is a windows 8 machine if that makes any difference.)
    Thanks!

    Hello Leach69,
There are two things to consider when purchasing a video card. The slots that are available in your computer and the power supply that is already in the computer. If you are looking to play modern games you are going to need a good video card, as you already know. I would suggest that you also consider upgrading your power supply to something that provides more power so that you can use that card that does use more power consumption.
Upgrading the power supply is also going to give you the freedom to do other upgrades in the future if you choose to do so. The power supply that is currently in your computer is only 300w from what I can tell, this means you are going to be extremely limited.
I'd suggest upgrading your power supply to something around a 550w - 600w then you can get just about any video card you want as long as you have the slot for it.

I'm wanting to upgrade my 64mb video card in my Dual 1.8Ghz G5.
What should I be looking for? Is the slot PCI or PCI-X?
