What GPU should I get

I am building a custom PC that I want to be an editing machine. I want something that preform but not overboard since I do not want to pay hundreds of extra dollars on somthing that is overboard.
Here are key components to my PC to this point.
-Toshiba 2 tb 7200 RPM Harddrive
-ASUS Z97 LGA 1150 intel motherboard
-Corsair Builder Series CX 500 Watt power supply
-Intel Core I.7 4790k processor
-2 8gb sticks of ram
and a solid state drive Crucial mx100 series 256gb
Thank you!!!!

gtx 970 4gb should match your cpu nice. its just over $340-ish, and might seem alot but its very powerful. the cheaper alternative is the gtx 960 2gb at $210-ish. both of these are latest chip series from nvidia and requires less watts than previous generations and amd.
i would suggest you look at something a little higher quality for the power supply, or at least one rated for higher watts so it doesn't have to work so hard. if you look at corsair's lineup you can see the cx is one of their lower models.  Corsair Power Supply Units

So I wanted to upgrade my G-Card without upgrading my Power Supply and Mother Board
I Play games like Garry's Mod and Team fortress 2 , which i can max out but as Gaming progress my PC cant handle it.
I was wondering if anyone would recommend any GPU's that would work with my Computer. It would be also grateful if anyone would tell me problems i will get when inserting my GPU in (if there is any) . Thank you and enjoy the rest of your day

    Breezy, welcome to the forum.
Here is a guide that you should read carefully before buying a discrete video card.  Your computer has the UEFI BIOS with Secure Boot.  All of EVGA and XFX 7000 series cards require the UEFI BIOS.  I am not certain about the other manufacturers.  You would have to contact their Tech Support for this information.
Now, to find a discrete video card that will work with the existing power supply unit (PSU) is nearly impossible.  They would not be much better, if any, than the integrated video.  Most mid-level cards require a minimum of 400W to operate properly.  Here is a good example.  Read the section titled "Specifications".  I have seen one MSI card that says it requires a 300W or larger PSU.  You have to be aware of the length of the card, also.  If you are in doubt if a card will fit into the space provided, you can make a template the size of the card.  You should add at least one inch for any additional power connectors.

  • What upgrades should I get for my MacBook pro for video editing?, What upgrades should I get for my MacBook pro for video editing?

    Hi,
i am a student and I will use my MacBook pro to edit my movies, I will go to a film school and I think the preview of my previous works has to be professionally done. But I don't know what upgrades should I get to make the editing smooth, and have enough storage.

as an hobbyist on a shoestring budget, but with the head in the sky, based on my own experience:
8GB Ram is ok, 16GB is nice
    most important, aside 'skills': …
<voice of Steve Balmer> ext HDD, ext HDD, ext HDD, ext HDD!!!
I'm handling here 4k material on a MacMini, which doesn't even have a dedicated GPU. In Multicam.
Distribute your materials on several hard drives, make a plan first, before editing, what & where, you get instantly messy and lost without a plan.
What mentioned before: back ups! I'm not shy using a 99€ Raid0 (=two 2.5" drives + Disk Utility's feature, to create 'software raids' ) - Raid0 are NoGo for pros, 'cause it doubles the chance to 'crash' - no prob for me, having my backups - inconvenient to reload everything - but I'm no News Room
For professional 'look' care for the other stuff :
tripod with 'fluid head', lights, more lights, ND filters set, ext. microphone(s) at last a shotgun and a lav, ext audio recorder (I'm abusing my ol' iPhone4 and a tiny box called iRig, which offer XLR connector), did I mention lights? , a good bag and a waterproof, lockable aluminium box, soft boxes for light, maybe a shoulder rig (starting at 80€), 200sq ft of some green cloth for green screening (if your school doesn't offer a 'studio') FCPX does marvel with even really bad lighted green screens, those handy foldable 'brighteners'/reflectors, to bounce light ('Rembrandt lightning') … finally tons of odds and ends, starting with gaffer tape, ending with SDcards ...
And DO things, try things, play with your stuff, make experiments just for the trash bin!
    Enjoy your film school (I'm envy… )

  • What display should I get for my macbook pro?

Hey Guys. I think this is in the correct section.
So I have a Macbook Pro (specs at the bottom) and I am looking to add an external monitor to use as a second monitor and at other times a screen for my playstation. I have never had a monitor before so not sure how big? What resolution? What ppi? HD, UHD, 4K? Someone said something about refresh rate. I have no idea what that is. None of this stuff I know.
Obviously I want the best screen I can have and I would connect my Macbook to it by HDMI using a Thunderbolt to HDMI converter and connect my ps3 to it by HDMI.
What is the highest resolution a HDMI/Thunderbolt can handle?
    What screen should I get?
Also I connected it up to my TV once and if I put my mouse at the bottom of the screen and then moved it onto my macbook screen it disapeared and didn't appear again until I moved it up and I don't want this problem
    How can i solve this?
All help is very much appreciated.
    Thanks.      Miles.

what iphone should i get im a young teen want as cheap as possibly thinking of getting one on kijij should I?

No. Get one from your carrier or from Apple. Most of the cost will be the monthly service, not the cost of the phone. Many carriers will give you an iPhone for free if you agree to a 2 year contract.

  • What speed should I get on my N network?

I've got a MacBook Air on my wireless network. I have a Time Capsule then two Airport base stations extended off of this. I'm wondering what speed should I get in transfer theoretically. I feel my WIFI network performs horribly.
I have a 150 meg per sec download internet connection or better and on my hardwired iMac it flies. On the WIFI part though it's dreadful. The MacBook Air may run at 20 to 30 meg per sec and the iPad and iPhone much worse.
I've talked to Apple extensively only to find myself with a third base station in a small condo of 1100 sq ft. I'm finding this very frustrating as they've had me test this thing this way to Friday and it's driving me crazy.

    Hi Shawn,
Thanks. This i very useful information. It is extended WIFI with two Airport Base stations providing the extension one specifically designed for air tune. There are probably about 8 to 9 devices on the network.
My speeds on the iMac wired Ethernet can hit about 250 mbs download from my ISP. My  WIFI though sounds like its in your range as extended the MacBook Air is doing about 22 to 35 mbs, the iPad is the most pathetic at about 5mbs down and relatively  the same up and the iphone actually maybe a bit better at twice that performance. Would that make sense.
It's interesting what you say about mulitple hops. I only added in that third base station as Apple wanted me to try an alternate Airport Express to see if that was the issue and it wasn't. I was just too disinclined to return the third one so I added it to the network so both AE's are running in extended mode. When I had joined with only two base stations, oddly enough the MacBook Air would scream but the iPad and iPhone worked in reverse and crawled. So Apple told me they should be extended. I just added the third in as extended.
Anwyay Shawn, potentially I might be running as expected which is odd in that I have never heard this from Apple. It's just all this trouble shooting to accomplish nothing.
Finally, other than the iMac, which I do work at 80% of the time, I wonder if having such a high performance internet service makes sense. I'm curious what your thoughts are on that. The service I have is:
         - Rogers Ultimate which does include a modem with WIFI
              - 150 mbs down 10 mbs up
              - unlimited bandwidth
    Thanks Shawn

  • What MacBook should I get??

What MacBook should I get? I want a MacBook this year and I know costs but nothing extremely expensive. I usually have 5 - 6 tabs open, listen to a lot of music, play disc games and occasionally photo edit and those sorts of things. But I don't know what MacBook to get because im not a computer savvy person plus there is a lot of choice so any help is greatly appreciated!

There is no answer to your question (that makes sense) since usage - even of the same applications - varies widely.
As a general thought, more memory is happiness. The screen size is a personal preference. Larger is nice, but I find my 13" screen is quite satisfactory.

  • What app should I get to burn home movies made in iMovie

I was surprised to find my new mac book pro doesn't include the ability to burn a dvd from iMovie.  What app should I get to burn home movies made in iMovie.

I have Burn, it is a poor substitute for iDVD.
There is NO alternative.   But iDVD is very easy to get.
iDVD is a “Must Have".   (Yes, it should be included.)
Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.
    800-692-7753
    800-275-2273
If you are still within your 15 day return period,  nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.
Most people report that by asking here:   http://www.apple.com/feedback/idvd.html
    or here:   http://www.apple.com/contact/
they got a free copy of iDVD.
If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk (don't get the download) for about $39.

  • What cords should i get to connect my mac book to my samsung tv?

what cords should i get to connect my mac book 2012 to my samsung tv?

    JShimazaki wrote:
Macbooks never had HDMI ports so you will need to purchase a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable. For HDMI, any brand will do. Get the cheapest you can find because they are all the same.
It's actually a Mini DisplayPort, so you'll want that type of plug on one end. Also, the cheapest is not always the best because it is possible to make a bad or outdated HDMI cable; if it's important that you have proper support for the latest HDMI standards with a high-end home theater you want to make sure the cable actually can do it. Monoprice.com has a couple of types of HDMI cables and even the better ones are still cheap.

  • What monitor should I get for my Macbook Pro?

    I have a 2012 Macbook Pro
I want to get an external monitor
What spec monitor should I get?
The only thing I'm worried about is getting the correct connection
I'm assuming I want a monitor that will take DVI connection
ALSO: would I need to buy a DVI connector - would the monitor come with this?
Aside... are there any specific (non Apple) monitors that are widely used by everyone?
I read another thread and there where a few names pop up like a Dell model
    Thanks
    Omar

    thanks for the reply
i was looking at this model: http://benq.co.uk/product/monitor/gl2450hm
i choose this one because it had a response time of 2ms
other monitors have a response time of 5ms
i assumed this would mean fast action graphics would display better?
    any thoughts?
(+ this is £120 on amazon - others are roughly £140 starting price)
ALSO... does it matter what i connect to - DVI or HDMI?
is one better than the other?
i already have a hdmi connector... so am assuming i will be ok with this and not bother with dvi?
    thanks

  • What cover should I get for new iPhone 4?

I'm getting my aunt an 8GB iphone 4 as a gift and am trying to figure out what version of screen/body protectors should I get? Will the new iPhone 4 for Verizon be the same as the Verizon 16 & 32 GB iPhone 4's? Please help.

I have the iphone 4 incase slip case. I was against cases, but since I dock my iphone to charge it, this worked really well. It's also very descrete looking.
I've also heard otterbox makes some really nice high end cases. They are pricey and bulky but do the job.
There is also the 12south book book case that acts as a car holder and case and looks like a leather book. This looked appealing since I do read with my iphone a lot but it was big and seemed more for a purse or counter then my pocket. I could see getting it for an ipod touch.

  • What monitor should I get for my t500?

I am having problems finding any display port monitors. Am I just missing them, or do I just need to get an adapter and buy a DVI or HDMI monitor?
I am thinking a 20-22 inch with WSXGA+ or WUXGA with a price range of $200-$300
    Thanks!
    Thinkpad T500 - Intel Core2 P8400 (2.26GHz), 4 gigs of ram, 160GB/7200rpm hard drive, ATI 3650 GPU, WSXGA+ panel

The Dell 24 inch 2408WFP have them, there are not many in the 20 -22 inch range that has the displayport, so if you are looking for those monitors then you should just get an display port to HDMI or DVI converter, preferrably you should get an HDMI converter, then an HDMI to DVI cable, then down the line, if you ever want to use HDMI monitor, all you have to do is to get an HDMI cable.
