what happen to command i?

Or do you mean it's not working to change text to italics? If the font doesn't have an italics style you can't fake it. It's been that way in Pages since it first came out.

  • What happened to command control D over text?

In Snow Leopard and Lion, you could hold down command control D over text (try it in TextEdit or Safari) and the definition for the word would pop up.
What happened to this?  Why is it gone?  How can this be restored?
    Anyone?
It is so bothersome when functionality you've been using for years mysteriously goes away.

OMG.  Now it does it on the release of the keys.  Previously, you had to wait for it to display.
I'm still on Lion and the definition doesn't appear until you release the keys. I tested it in Safari and TextEdit. I think your mind is playing tricks on you!

  • What happened to command to get track names

I'm using iTunes 11.01 on OS 10.6.8 having just recently downloaded the updated iTunes. What happened to the advanced menu and the command to get track names and infor? I ripped some CD's while I was offline, and now I cana't figure out how to access the Gracenote Database to get the track names. This is a serious omission in the new version.

It is still there. Right mouse click on a song or group of songs and select Get Track names

  • What happened to Command+Shift+B = Bold face???

I'm an Adobe user since PhotoShop 2.0 and PageMaker version "Runtime" Windows. I've used InDesign CS4 for two months now. As most of you, I'm busy and haven't had time to research an itchy little glitch I've found. I use the shortcut Command+Shift+B since the beginning of time to switch to and from boldface fonts. All other CS4 applications as well as all MS Office products have continued the use of this handy (invaluable?) shortcut. With ID CS4, it no longer works. Why?

InDesign CS5 does not have faux bold or faux italic.  Faux italics can be had using the skew setting.  Generally a 20% skew setting works
well although in some cases the tracking may need adjusting to make it more legible.  As for faux bold,I have found that by doing the following
I can get a bold look for fonts that I do not have bold versions available for.
         1. Create a small text box to hold only the text that needs to be bold.
         2. Align it over the original text.
         3. If the alignment just isn't quite right, align it as best as you can and then create a character style to change its color to paper
(I call it White Out).  'White out' the original text and you're left with the text in the small text box.
         4. Copy the text box and Paste In Place until it's as dark as you need.
While this is not an elegant solution nor workable with large amounts of bold text it serves the purpose and can be exported to PDF.
So far, I haven't found a simpler way around the problem.
As for the Command+Shift+B=Bold question. . . . .  InDesign doesn't have it.  So What!   Big deal!  Get over it!  The power of this
program and what you can do with it is breathtaking.  Command+Shift+B=Bold is not needed.

  • What happened to command-control-a

This used to open a window allowing one to grab embedded videos.  Now it doesn't work.
Is there another commmand that replaces it?

OK, it installed as you pictured.  I had removed clicktoflash as you suggested.
    Didn't suggest that (don't think I did).
Anyway, try installing both ClickToFlash and ClickToPlugin (I have both installed).
Then, test with any youtube video.  (click to start the video, then right click and look for "Download Video")
Edit: OK I see you tried with both installed.  Should work.
    Check the settings: http://hoyois.github.io/safariextensions/clicktoplugin/#settings
Edit: Go to Safari->Preferences->Extensions, then ClickToPlugin, and click: "Click this checkbox to access settings":
A new Safari Tab will open,
Then in the ShortCut Menu Tab, click Download Video:

  • What happens when a program name is typed on the command line?

I mean I know what HAPPENS but I need to know the sequence of events. How would I describe it?
    i.e. java MyProg

What is this? Are you taking a take-home exam on basic computer operation? You're asking very similar questions about broad things.
    Anyway:
    1) the shell parses the command line. it gets a sequence of tokens which are basically just individual strings
    2) the shell identifies which tokens on the command line are executables, and which are arguments to those executables. It also figures things out like how to chain the output of one program to the input of another, although this doesn't apply in the example you gave. In your example, "java" is the executable and "MyProg" is a string to pass to the executable as an argument.
    3) The shell then searches for the actual program file corresponding to the token that refers to an executable. The shell looks at the PATH environment variable to find a list of directories; it then looks in each directory until it finds the program file. So the program file here would be "java.exe" on a windows system.
    4) It then spawns off a new process to run the java program, passing the MyProg string to it as an argument.
    Does that help?

  • What happened to my computer's ability to play sound when I updated to OSX 10.8.2? I had a hard time updating from 10.8 to 10.8.2 and now that I have my sound is gone and not adjustable.

I have a 13" Macbook Pro running OSX 10.8 and when I tried to update to 10.8.1 through the Mac App store it didn't acknowledge that there was an update available so I went to the apple website and manually downloaded the update. When I attempted to update it that way the installer said that my computer did not meet the requirements of the update. That was strange as it was already running 10.8.
So I called apple care and then gave me instructions to restart my computer holding option+command+R and redownload Mountain Lion and after it finally finished, it installed but now I just noticed that my sound icon on the menu bar is greyed out and in system preferences I cannot adjust the sound output. I don't understand what happened, all I wanted to do was update my OS. If anyone has any solutions I'm open. I'm also going to set up a genius bar appointment.
    Thanks.

My mobile hotspot (Samsung Note II)  no longer works since I upgraded to mountain lion (running on MacBook Pro)  What happened and how do I get it back? "

    "Could not join “NAME-HOTSPOT”.
    A connection timeout occurred"
Please someone help me with this - I do a lot of travelling and use my hotspot!

Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried, until the problem is resolved. Some of these steps are only possible if you have control over the wrieless router.
    Step 1
Turn Wi-Fi off and back on.
    Step 2
Restart the router and the computer. Many problems are solved that way.
    Step 3
Change the name of the wireless network, if applicable, to eliminate any characters other than letters and digits. You do that on your router via its web page, if it's not an Apple device, or via AirPort Utility, if it is an Apple device.
    Step 4
    Run the Network Diagnostics assistant.
    Step 5
In OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and fix the issues listed in the Summary, if any.
    Step 6
    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Enter the name of your wireless network in the search box. You should have one or more "AirPort network password" items with that name. Make a note of the name and password, then delete all the items. Quit Keychain Access. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. Reconnect to the network.
    Step 7
You may need to change other settings on the router. See the guidelines linked below:
Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    Potential sources of interference
    Step 8
Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    Step 9
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).

If you downloaded the correct version for your iPad model (and the different models have different ipsw files), then you should be able to navigate to it in iTunes by pressing and holding the shift key on Windows (command key on Mac) when clicking the Check For Updates button.

  • In case of a DB crash what happens to the status of the Control File

When a DB is crashed will the Control file that exists in the OS also get corrupted, What happens to the Data Files , how to recover the Control files and Data Files , the DB in case there isn't any Backup media or any Dump available on the DB.

The only one way to recover a database is to be in archivelog mode.
And if I said about recover stricto sensu, that's because even in noarchivelog mode we need to use the command recover until cancel before an open with resetlogs option, even if we haven't any redo/archive logs. That fake a recover, this is what we say a mimic recover. Which is not a recover stricto sensu like it can be the case with archivelog mode.
    Nicolas.

  • What happened to the sound effects in Garageband after in app purchase of $4.99 expansion pack?

I purchased a brand new MacBook Pro OS Mavericks and promptly began using Garageband 10.0.2.  There were many sound effects provided in the program (thunder, galloping horses, etc.), and I decided to complete the in app purchase.  Once I completed the download and install, I realized that I no longer had those sound effects.  Does any one know what happened to them?

Galloping Horses and thunder are not part of the GarageBand sound effects. You have probably other loop packages installed, for example the Final Cut Pro Sound Effects or the iLife Sound Effects.
Check, how your Loop Browser is set. The pop-up menu at the top of the Loop Browser should be set to "Loops" to have all loops available. Set the "Scale" to any, clear the search field. In the GarageBand Preferences, "Loops" pane disable "Keyword Browsing", filter for more relevant results.
Now you should be able to see all installed loops. If not, use the command "Reindex all Loops" from the "Loops" pop-up menu.
