What happen to my java desktop?

Suddenly, my java desktop didn't work so I found a tip from here and followed the tip, but it didn't work...
I can see the login screen but that's it... after I log in, I can see a mouse pointer with black background.
However, I can use CDE..???? this is weird.....
Help...me..
Do I have to reinstall java desktop? then how can remove the old java desktop and reinstall it?

I've run into the same issue when I was playing around with some system files. Though I offer a way to fix it, it is NOT elegant and I don't honestly know the EXACT problem.
However, to fix, I simply copied all of my data file at /export/home/[yourname] somewhere safe, perhaps /export/home/temp.
Next, login to CDE and use the management console and blast the entire user account and delete files. Then recreate a user of the same credentials and restore your data files. Note that if you restore ALL of your files, you may just make the same issue appear. Just move your important data files first and login to JDS to test....it should work. Then just restore some more of the esoteric files gradually, that way, in case you blow it up again, you have some idea what files are bunk.

The way I moved from 10.3.9 to 10.5.8 was to use "ditto -rsrc" and copy the user homes and the data share to an external firewire drive. Then did the same in reverse.
I found the key to data and share permissions to make sure that the users had the same UID in Leopard that they had in Panther.
You can then use "sudo rm -rf" to remove any folder from the relocated homes that you want. Remember if you do choose to remove "~/Library" from each users relocated home, you will be removing any iCal calendars, login.keychains, browser bookmarks, custom screensavers and wallpapers, etc.
Users don't really care if they can login and do any work. But there will be much wailing, gnashing of the teeth, and anxiety, if they lose their bookmarks and wallpaper.

  • Do I need Java 8 or should i disable it? What happens if i disable it? And what is the difference between Java and Java Runtime?

Do I need Java 8 or should I disable it? What happens if i disable it? And what is the difference between Java and Java Runtime?

There's no difference. They're both runtime plug-ins (they run when an app calls for Java functions).
You only need Java if you either have Java apps on your Mac that won't run without having it installed, or you use trusted web sites that require Java to function (getting fewer and far between). Otherwise, you have no need for it at all.

Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • What happen when i compile a java prog.

I, to an extend know how to code using java. However I don know what really happens after compiling a java prog and what happens when i run it.. what is JVM, JDK, JIT etc., means.. What is a class file and a jar file and a war file.. I'm confused.. ANy help is really appreciated..
    Thanks in advance..
    regards.

Java source is compiled into "portable byte code" (a class file).
The JVM (virtual machine) interprets the "portable byte-code" into "machine instructions"... The actual instructions may vary from platform to platform, but the contract is they will allways have the same effect.
JIT stands for "Just In Time"... as usually means "JIT-compiler"... which is fancy pants name for an interpreter.
    Google will tell you more.

  • What happened to the pull down picture control for desktop pictures?

What happened to the pull down picture control for desktop pictures? Today as I was changing my desktop picture I saw the control that allows you to adjust the picture vannish!
Where did it go and how do I get it back?

Solved my own problem. From the finder I opened a picture that I wanted to use for my desktop with Firefox and from there I opened the Desktop and Screensaver preferences and the missing pulldown was back.
My theory of the problem is that I had selected the "Change Picture" box and that eliminated the picture adjustment pull-down menu and it didn't come back after deselecting the "Change Picture" box.

  • While transferring my documents from my Desktop to my new Apple laptop through a memory stick all of my files on my Desktop were lost. What Happened?

While transferring my Documents from my desktop to my new Apple laptop through a memory stick all of my documents were lost. I cannot find them anywhere...What happened?

If I'm reading this right, you copied the Documents folder from your User account to a memory stick? How big was the Documents folder?
How did you carry out the copy?
Drag and drop from user account to stick? - This should copy the data leaving the originals on your desktop Mac.
⌘-drag from user account to stick? - This would move the files - copy them over, then delete the originals.
Entire folder at one go or a few files at a time?
Assuming that you used the memory stick as received (straight out of the pack) it would almost certainly be formatted FAT32 or even FAT16 so it can be used onWindows or Mac. There are file size limits with both those formats, which could cause problems, but I'm not sure complete loss of data would result.

I just installed LR CC and am having trouble opening catalogs where I followed the instructions to upgrade.  Just posted a question about it.
Discovered a problem when I went looking for some images that were not included in the most recent catalog.  After opening up a couple of older ones and upgrading, I went back to the most recent and couldn't opening.  Message says it is not writable.  And also says it may be due to incorrect permissions.  If you have any suggestions for this, I would love to hear them.

  • What happens if i sync two desktop firefoxes? Will my bookmarks be organised by computer or will there be duplicates?

How to set up firefox sync is well described, but there is hardly any information on what happens after setup. I have two computers with different bookmarks and settings and i want to keep it that way, but i would still like to have access to the other computer's data.
Will the sync import all settings and merge them or will the settings remain separate somehow? Will this only affect bookmarks or also sessions, that is open tabs and windows? I would be okay with merging bookmarks, but browsing sessions need to remain unique although it would be nice to somehow access the open tab list from the other computer.

    Thanks for the reply.
It is encouraging to see such timely responses!
I must be old-school ... you know, mainframe days... ;)
To me synchronize does not necessarily imply merge both into a superset.
Sometimes synchronize means: make one look like the other.
(See refs at wikipedia or other online definitions. I only point this out to explain how it is that I do not automatically assume the same process function for the word that Mozilla does. And having worked with user documentation for years, it seems that clarifying of assumed terms is important.)
Though I am not sure if any authors of the Firefox help pages ever read here, I would wish that they would include just this extra little tidbit - that "synchronize" in Firefox means creating a superset of all data, and then making both look like the superset.
Would have saved me a lot of time searching and worrying about what will actually happen.
    Sigh.
The one other thing, which I will probably have to experiment with, regarding bookmark synchronizing:
What does it do with two similar but not exact bookmarks.
I am guessing that it will try to match on URL address, not text label. So i wonder what it will do if I have same URL but with slightly different text name label, which one does it pick?
Or perhaps it will keep both, if its match criteria is both of URL and text name label.

  • Can't use Java Desktop System

I've installed Solaris 10 u2 x86 and after having fought with setting up X for a month. I've now managed to get X to start on my 1920x1200 Dell monitor.
The problem is when I chose Java Desktop System, Release 3 as the session I just get kicked back to the login display.
Can someone tell me where I am supposed to look to see what's wrong?
I can login using CDE, but who want's to use that when JDS is around!
    Martin

Since I stumbled onto the solution I'm sharing it here.
I logged into CDE and tried to get a web browser going, but nothing happened when clicked on the web browser icon.
Then I tried running mozilla from a terminal, but it complained about missing library libmlib.so.2. A quick search on google brought me back to these forums and a post saying "Missing libmlib.so.2 - GDM won't start".
I put the solaris 10 dvd into the cdrom and added the SUNWmlib package.
    Now JDS is working

  • Deployment issues-java desktop database application

    hello,
i'm vasant...recently visited an online tutorial for creating java desktop database application
here is the URL [http://www.netbeans.org/kb/docs/java/gui-db.html#running-outside-IDE] ...
everything works fine...when building and executing the application from within the NetBeans IDE..6.7
but as instructed in that tutorial...when I tried to run the .jar file after exiting the netbeans IDE, it didnt run...
infact direction has been given in that tutorial for this in the last section....which says that i've to start Java DB from outside the Netbeans IDE...that's where difficulty arises....
i've no idea how to start Java DB manually...
i'd really appreciate if nybody der could...help me out plz
    thanx

i really appreciate you trying to solve my problem..
but i think...my estion is fairly simple and straight forward...and i've provided every detail of my problem(if uv'e read my opening post of this thread)....
and as far as that link goes...i've already checked it b4 u guys mentioned it... as it is provided right there in the tutorial i've provided link of...
and i've tried my options b4 making use of this forum...and i didnt find a solution that's why i'm taking ur help..
    nevertheless...i repeat my question...
there's a tutorial at this link...[http://www.netbeans.org/kb/docs/java/gui-db.html]...in it is described how to create a java desktop database applicaiton...
at the end of the tuorial there is a section called: "Building and Deploying the Application"
in that section they have instructed to exit netbeans IDE and try and run the application outside it...which is not happening
the reason they say is that i've to start Java DB from outside of the IDE...that is wat my problem is ..
i dont know how to start Java DB from outside the Netbeans ide...You are not telling us anything.
If I tell you "my automobile doesn't work" how do you know what is wrong. Instead I need to tell you one of the following.
    1. The engine didn't start.
    2. The wheel fell off.
    3. The engine caught fire.
    4. When I went to the driveway the car wasn't even there.
When you "run" something then something happens. When I run notepad from a console window if notepad is not in the path then I will get an error about command not found. if it is in the path then the command executes and notepad pops up. Even if I don't see notepad pop up I know that the command seemed to execute from the command window.
The above are examples of describing what you did and what did happen. In detail.
"It doesn't work" provides neither detail about how you ran it nor what did happen when you did attempt to run it.
