What happen to the 24" Cinema Displays???

Just noticed they are not listing the old 24 " displays at the store. My old 17" Apple LCD display is about done for. Was hoping to replace it with a 24". Would hook it up to a Power Mac G5 Dual.
New Apple LED Cinema Display (24" flat panel) is all thats listed now and this is for the powerbook only as I understand.
Maybe new display in January? Hope so

+"...You can ask at the Apple store for an adaptor ..."+
You can ask but you ain't gonna get one because at this point in time, they don't exist. Why do you think everyone's so upset about this? If you could just buy an adaptor, it would not be an issue.

What happened to the 30 inch Cinema display?
I went into the Apple store to purchase one, all they had was the (too small) 27 inch with the ugly black border.
I did find a few used 30 inch Cinema displays on ebay, they are over $1100 USED.
Any suggestions, for a 30 inch display?

No suggestions, apart from changing to a non-Apple display such as a LaCie one.
I think Apple really makes a mistake with the new displays - they are nifty, granted, if you want to watch TV or the like, but they'll loose the professionals, working all day long with their displays.
    1. the new displays have an excellent resolution, no trouble there, but they are like mirrors, reflecting lamps, etc. and very tiring for the eyes. That's already a problem with my MacBook Pro but I've got to accept it - what else is there to do - and fortunately it's only my secondary system.
    2. we have gotten used to 30" and do not want to downgrade.
I am a translator and need to work with technical plants and several open files, so 30" really helped facilitate work. And now that's all gone as the 27" display definitely is not up to scratch for day-long work...
I ordered a 30" display right when it became available, so it's quite old now. I worry what I'll do when it breaks down ...

  • Hello, I have a Macbook Pro 17'' 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 (2011). I dont know what happened but the pixels on black or dark areas on my monitor are displayed in a flickering red color, and on white areas are light blue. Any idea??

    Hello,
I have a Macbook Pro 17'', 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 (late 2011). I dont know what happened but the screen shows red flickering pixels everywhere where it should be black, and light blue pixels where it should be gray, I had this problem twice, the first time it just disappeared by itself. Now it's been like this for days, I have really no clue.
Anyone with the same problem or solution?
This is how it looks like:
    Thanx

Is that a camera picture or a screen-shot? Is there any difference? i.e., can you capture the problems in a screen shot, or not?

  • LIfespan of the Apple Cinema Display?

So... I've heard stories that the lifespan of the Apple Cinema Display is as short as 2-3 years?
Anyone have any firsthand reports of a happier, longer life for their ACD?
I just bought a 23" Cinema Display that happily has none of the problems I read about in other posts from a few years back about banding, pinkish tones, etc.
Can I hope for a longer life than 3 years from my ACD?
    Thanks for any good news....

The most life limited component in an LCD is the flourescent lamp in the backlight that illuminates the whole screen. These are typically rated to have 25,000 hours of life. What that means is that, after 25,000 hours of operation, the lamp(s) will shine at half their original brightness.
Since 25,000 hours equals roughly 3-years of continuous, 24/7 operation, that may be the basis for you hearing that LCDs have a lifespan of 3 years. If you only run the display for 8 hours every day, then you would have 9 years of backlight life.

  • VDI3: what happens when the Primary VDI core fails?

A potential customer asked me this and I did not really know how to answer the question ... sorry if this was asked before. So here we go:
What happens when and if the Primary VDI core fails? Will the entire VDI3 setup go down? Will running sessions be lost? And how do you fix that?
    I found this page:
    http://wikis.sun.com/display/VDI3/MySQL+Cluster+Reconfiguration+Scenarios
So I assume the "Non-VDI host ==> Primary Management Host" scenario is what would need to be done?
    http://wikis.sun.com/display/VDI3/MySQL+Cluster+Reconfiguration+Scenarios#MySQLClusterReconfigurationScenarios-NonVdiToPrimary
If this is correct then this would answer the "how do you fix that?" part. OK then.
But still I'd welcome if anyone could explain what exactly would happen when and if a Primary VDI core fails. The customer's opinion on this is that they are a "single point of failure" because the Primary VDI host is not redundant (as opposed to the 2 x Secondary VDI cores) ... So, is this assumption correct or not?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Assuming you have 3 VDI core hosts. One of them is the primary. And the primary goes down. So what happens then:
    * The underlying database is still running on the remaining hosts
    * All desktop sessions are still running on the remaining hosts
    * New session requests will be handled by the remaining hosts.
    * All desktops are still running on the virtualization hosts.
So in essence, your VDI cluster is still healthy. The operation is just impacted in this way:
    * You can't add new VDI core hosts
    * You can't change the configuration of the Sun Ray server failover group
    * A failure of another VDI core host (data node) will result into a complete outage of the underlying database
You should bring up the primary again as soon as possible in order to gain failover capabilities again.

  • What happened to the ipad photo viewer in lock screen?

What happened to the ipad photo viewer in lock screen? I updated to iOS 7.0 and nolonger have the slide show and music while in lock sreen. This was the most used feature of my iPad since I put it in a dock on my desk. Is there another way to do that.

    I 100% agree with ski-doug!!!
I use iPad 50% of the time  to play music and display photos for my customers!!!
I also have seen many a business display picture slideshows to their incoming customers without granting access to the device!
I realize many will save personal pictures to their iPads and thus they will not want easy acces to them, and they could block this feature in previous iOS.
Please, please, please Apple, DO NOT generalize and figure we are all the same!
    Please reuturn this feature!
    Sincerely...
    Monteh!
PS  It would be awesome if it could display all My Pics instead of just an album!

  • What happened to the Audio Books option?

What happened to the "audio books" option in "music" under the "more" option on the lower left of my iPhone 4s?  I have been syncing downloaded non-iTunes audio books for years without problems - until now. I have read lots of solutions while searching for an answer and none of them have worked. Any ideas? What is Apples official response? Many seem to share this problem.

    1) To see your audiobooks in iTunes, there's a dropdown on the top left to select the Library it's displaying. Use the dropdown to select Books, and it will show them (you can choose Audiobooks, Books, PDFs, etc.)
    2) To see your audio books in the iPad/iPhone -- when you have your iDevice connected to the computer with iTunes check your sync settings to make sure they're correct for what you want to do. They may have gotten switched behind your back.
    3) iTunes match - fraid I can't help you there. My Itunes computer is still on Snow Leopard, no iCloud for me.

What happened to the icon of the "house"? After searching the web or checking my e-mail I could alway click on the house to return to my home page. Now I have to keep clicking the back arrow or enter my home page on my google search. edit

The home button has by default moved to the right hand edge of the navigation toolbar. You can move it back by right-clicking on a toolbar, choose customize to open the customize toolbar window, then with that window on display you can drag and drop icons to move them.
If the home icon is not at the right end of the navigation toolbar, use the procedures in the following link to restore it - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Back+and+forward+or+other+toolbar+items+are+missing

What happens if the genre box goes missing on the top left corner on your iPad?How do I get it back please help me.

Try quitting iTunes and restart your iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
You can also try a reset if quitting the app doesn't work.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • 2010 13" MBP performance with the 27" Cinema Display

Hi. I have a 2010 13" Macbook Pro bought about a year and a half ago (my first Mac and despite the problems described below, I'm a very happy camper), with RAM upgraded to 8 GB but otherwise it's pretty much a standard issue machine, certainly still a good computer. Last summer I bought the 27" Cinema Display to go with it and I just love it. From time to time, though, I'm a bit concerned about the performance of my computer with the display. I usually use a lot of apps at a time (hence the maxed out memory) and with the display, more often than not, the computer runs a bit on the slow side, the animations are not the smoothest, the "beach ball" is oft-present, or, very prominently, there's no way flash video (such as on YouTube) plays smoothly in full screen, making it unwatchable (I often "cheat" by using the universal access zoom to magnify the video, which does the job pretty well). The fan inside the laptop usually spins audibly at the maximum RPM and the CPU temperature is usually around 70°C (rarely less, but rarely much more). None of these problems happen when I'm using it without the display, on the road. I have already given up on keeping the see-thru Zagg plastic case when at home and not traveling, to keep the computer cooler in the clamshell mode and I'd be willing to buy an external cooling system (the Moshi Zefyr 2 cooler looks really worthy) but do you think the performance degradation could be heat-related at all? I know my MBP is really the entry-level model and still has the ancient C2D CPU, only 256 MB of video memory and I shouldn't expect miracles. But I just wanted to make sure I'm doing everything right and my computer is really "supposed" to perform worse with such a large display. Thank you very much for any kind of help or advice.

Thanks a lot for your reply. Isn't it weird, though, that Apple would make the display compatible with all of their notebooks without any warning about the possible performance penalty with some of the lower end models? Why aren't they offering smaller external displays? And the MBP 7,1 is no slouch too, when this particular Cinema Display originally shipped, it was the most powerful Apple laptop after the 15" and 17" MBPs.
Oh well, it still works OK though, and I'm going to stick with this setup for at least another year or so, certianly till after the rumored MBP redesign takes place and I hope the graphics on the future machines will be powerful enough to drive large displays smoothly. It's a good thing the Cinema Display is future-proof and forward compatible with the Tunderbolt port. All in all, it's a beautiful display and will remain so for a long time.
Do you think an external cooler (such as the mensioned Zefyr 2) would help in the meantime?
