What happened to Adobe?

I've been using adobe products for the past 12 years.  Instead of a product getting better, I've only seen it get worse.
Reader V10 doesn't open .pdf from IE or firefox
I can't print to a network printer
I actually had to drop back to 9.4.3 to get my problems fixed.
Where is the quality assurance here?  Does this department even exist within the alls of Adobe?
I don't know about anyone else, but the download manager is not that great, plus for a while they were forcing McAfee Security Scan on you without permission, and no notification that it was doing so.
They were forcing updates on you in version 9(as in you couldn't disable updates).
You can't download old versions as a standalone unless you do so via FTP.
The list goes on....I can't express enough the disappointment I have with a product that started off so great and has declined so much over the years.
Sorry for ranting, I'm just tired of failed products from Adobe.
JP

I have also used Adobe for many years, nice and simple, does what it says on the tin. At least it did. The main websites that I use for my work now generate the same message 'Acrobat does not allow connection to: www.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.com'. Bad enough, but when I was trying to search for a fix, I got the message 'Acrobat does not allow connection to: get.adobe.com' - the software cannot even access its own website!!
'Protected Mode at Startup' is disabled. Adobe Reader is shown as enabled in both IE and Firefox.
The machines is running IE8 and Firefox 4 on Windows 7 - is this yet another product that does not run or has unpredictable results in Windows 7?
Any ideas?

  • What happened to ADOBE workspaces files after being downloaded before retirement?

What happened to ADOBE workspaces files after being downloaded before retirement?

I had this problem as well! I was working on one of several projects I had, I'm pretty sure they were saved on the computer, my computer started to chug, I reset it, and they ALL disappeared! I can't find any of the files anywhere on the hard drive, but I also can't sign into the cloud to see if they somehow got moved. I reset again, and still nothing.
When I try to log into the cloud it tells me the sync failed. Since I only just signed up for the subscription I don't know if it's common for it to go down, or what.

  • What happened to Adobe Media Encoder???

Adobe Media Encoder has disappeared from the CC list of apps available, and I need to reinstall.  What happened to it?

I have Windows 7, HP elitebook 8560w laptop - my video drivers crashed,  which caused problems with any software that used them. So I've been uninstalling, and re-installing apps but Media Encoder is no longer in the list on my CC desktop app.
I looked at my video box  (also win 7, an HP z820 tower, not a laptop)  and it's not on the list in the CC app for that one either.  That box is fine, no issues, and media encoder is installed, but it does not show up in the list of installed apps.
Was there a change that does not let you install Media Encoder as a seperate app? Does it now only come with other CC video apps?
    thanks for your help!

  • What happens when Adobe Reader 9 is already installed

I am wondering what happens when you try and install Adobe Reader 9 when it is already installed.
For example I have Adobe Reader 9 installed and when I try and install it again I get to the part in the setup that says:
"Please wait while the Adobe Reader 9 is being proessed"
Once the percentage bar goes up to something like 99.90% the window just closes. I don't get any message saying it is already installed which I thought was rather odd.
Is this really what happens when you already have Adobe Reader 9 installed?
    Thanks
Edit: I running Windows XP SP2

In Firefox and Chrome you need to replace their PDF viewer with the Adobe Reader plugin.

  • What happened to Adobe's own HD codec?

I've just loaded v7 for the first time and when I try to export to HD format I find only the Media Player 9 codec and not the Adobe version I've used previously on V3. The Media P version produces a much smaller file than the Adobe so I assumed that the Adobe version was better. Is there a difference?

What do you mean you find the Media Player 9 codec?? How are you trying to export?? Via Share??

  • What happened to Adobe Bordeaux?

Remember back at NAB in December 2007 Adobe previewed a new technology call Bordeaux (Symble BX) and it has some of the same functionality as Flash Catalyst except it was geared more towards video producers that needed to create compelling interactive media and websites but lacked knowledge of Action Script.
Since then the product haven't been spoken of, swept under the rug and seemingly forgotten about on the Internet.  Does anyone have insight they can share?  Is the project even still alive at this point?

I believe that the features/functionality of what was once Bordeaux have been rolled into or are planned for Flash Catalyst.

  • Still wondering what happened to Adobe Story Plus

I am a subscriber to Creative Cloud and ADOBE STORY is nowhere to be found.  I even talked to one of the Adobe “tech” people who INSISTED that Adobe Story was a) not an application; b) is not part of Creative Cloud; and c) could not see any reference anywhere that stated that Adobe Story was EVER to be part of Creative Cloud.
That's interesting considering that the following references ALSO state that Adobe Story was supposed to be part of Creative Cloud.
    http://nofilmschool.com/2012/05/adobe-story-stretches-creative-cloud-pre-production/
    http://www.adobe.com/products/story-plus.html
    http://cs5.org/?p=2078
    http://www.adobe.com/products/story-plus/buying-guide.html

The features described for Adobe Story Plus finally started working; however, I can no longer go online with my application.  It just sits there with a prompt saying "Going online.  Please wait."   The funny thing is that this ONLY happens on my MacBook Pro.   My work computer (iMac) works perfectly.    I have uninstalled and reinstalled both Adobe Story AND Adobe Air but unfortunately this did not work.

  • What happened to Adobe 1998?

Under "View" - "Proofing Profiles" -there is no selection for Adobe 1998, which is the color space all my photos are shot in. It's there in PSCS2, but not in Aperture. What am I missing? Thanks for the help.

    I really don't think it's a bug at all, because as I
stated, I think/assume that AdobeRGB is the default
and is the profile used to display images when
    "Onscreen Proofing" is not enabled.
And what if I import a file in sRGB or ProPhoto RGB?
There has to be some default underlying color space used I agree. Bridge uses sRGB. But that’s not a reason not to show Adobe RGB (1998). But worse, all matrix profiles appear to do absolutely nothing when you select them. Maybe someone can confirm or deny this. Open a very saturated image and select sRGB, then ProPhoto RGB or any other simple, matrix profile. Do you see a change? I can’t. Why are they there in the first place?
There’s no legal issue that I can think of since you can clearly select Adobe RGB (1998) elsewhere in the application.
"In contrast with Adobe Photoshop, you don't have to
set your "workspace." Instead, Aperture will always
work in a wide gamut, except for when you apply
Onscreen Proofing, which shows you how your work
    should look in final output.
The reason you need to specify a working space in Photoshop is to define what it assumes for untagged files. Aperture (and all Apple color applications) are not that smart. They simply pick either your display profile (dumb) or Generic RGB. In Photoshop you have the option to say to it “When you encounter an untagged RGB file, assume it’s in this color space.” That’s useful. Apple app’s don’t work that way, at least since Tiger when the ColorSync untility removed the settings for such assumptions (a good idea since it didn’t really work anyway).
Tip: In some cases, the profile lists don't match.
As I mentioned, they tell you this but not why (like lots of other goofy designs in Aperture).
Adobe RGB, for example, is included as an Export
Preset option but not as an Onscreen proofing option.
Try using ColorMatch RGB or Wide Gamut RGB when
    proofing for Adobe 1998."
Again, this kind of defies any color management logic. Again, selecting such options doesn’t appear to change the soft proof anyway.
BTW, I’ve sent an email to the Product Manager asking him to clarify this. We’ll see...

  • HT5128 What happened to Adobe Photoshop on PowerPC (Macbook)?

    I have Macbook and Adobe Photoshop was installed when I bought it.  But recently, I am not able to open this application and it says;
"You can not open the application "Adobe Photoshop CS.app" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."
How shall I solve this situation?
Which app might replace with photoshop?
I upgraded my Macbook to Mountain Lion, to get better, but loosing something which was working is not that good.

Here is a post that I assembled for a similar question:
Unfortunately you got caught up in the minor miracle of Rosetta.  Originally licensed by Apple when it migrated from the PowerPC CPU platform that it had used from the mid-1990's until the Intel CPU platform in 2006, Rosetta allowed Mac users to continue to use their library of PPC software transparently in emulation.
However, Apple's license to continue to use this technology expired with new releases of OS X commencing with Lion (and now Mountain Lion).  While educational efforts have been made over the last 6 years, the fact is that Rosetta was SO successful that many users were caught unaware UNTIL they upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion.
    Workarounds:
    1. If your Mac will support it, restore OS X Snow Leopard;
    2.  If your Mac will support it, partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the "dual-boot" method to choose between your PowerPC software or Lion/Mt. Lion;
    3.  Upgrade your software to Intel compatible versions [check with Adobe for an updated version of Photoshop], or find alternative software that will open your data files;
    3.  Install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels:
Full Snow Leopard installation instructions here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1365439
NOTE: STEP ONE of the instructions must currently be completed on a Snow Leopard or Lion Mac and the resulting modified Snow Leopard.cdr install file can then be moved over to your Mountain Lion Mac for completion of the remaining steps.
NOTE 2:  Computer games with complex, 3D or fast motion graphics make not work well or at all in virtualization.

I have downloaded Adobe CS6 CC and I don't have Captivate.  Has it been replaced by another program?

Adobe Captivate has never been included in the Cloud, although its inclusion has been suggested.

It's a standalone program purchased separately or as part of the Adobe eLearning Suite.
