What happened to "Allow Ethernet Clients" in Airport Utility 5.6 for Lion?

I recently upgraded to cable internet and in reconfiguring my network I have run into a problem using my old AirPort Express (model A1084) as a wireless bridge providing an ethernet connection to my TV.  I have an AirPort Extreme base station creating the wireless network--all systems green on that.
When I go to the wireless configuration in manual setup to add the Express to the existing network, the "Allow Ethernet Clients" checkbox is nonexistent.
I know the functionality exists because I had the network configured in such a way with the previous ISP with no problems.  The only difference is that now I am running Lion on my MBP, so I downloaded Airport Utility 5.6 for Lion because 6.1 was frustrating.
Anybody else have this problem or know of a workaround?

Hey Bob...
You seem to be the go to guy for "vintage" airport express base station questions.
My issue is similar to the above. So are you saying if you have an A1084 Airport Express there is not an option for Allowing Ethernet clients? I fired up my old MacBook Pro so that I could access an older version of Airport Utilty, but when I tried the other Wireless Modes I was unable to see the "Allow Ethernet clients" check box.
I have an original Apple TV with a bad wireless card that can no longer connect to my wireless network. Apple wanted $169 to replace. So stupid...probably costs them $2. Anyways...Apple Genius suggested connecting via ethernet to my airport express as an option to keep my old Apple TV connected. The only reason I'm not buying a new Apple TV is because I utilize the red and white audio jacks on the back for my outdoor wireless Brookstone speaker, and the new Apple TV's do not have these ports.
On a side note, I'm a 25 year Mac user, but I'm considering the Amazon TV instead of a new Apple TV if I cannot get my older one reconnected to my network. Do you have any opinions on the subject?
Thanks for your time...
Chad

  • AirPort Utility 6.0 for windows?

"which is available as download for both Mac OS X and Windows" It should support windows but I dont see any update? are in on is way soon?

AirPort Utility 6.0 for Lion has dropped some features and functionality over previous versions.
Even if it might be on the way in a Windows version, I'm not sure why you would want to drop features and functionality over what is already available.

  • Allow ethernet Clients

    Hi all,
I have a Airport Express 802.11n (1st Gen) in "join a wireless network" mode.
The firmware of the device is 7.6.1.
I'm using Airport Utility 6.0 to configure it.
My 'base' router is a non-apple router.
    I have 2 simple questions:
    1) is the (1st Gen) the latest Airport Express 802.11n?
    2) where is this "Allow Ethernet Clients" check box in Aiport Utility ?
    thanks!

The AirPort Express 802.11n is the latest version of the product.
I suggest that you download and install AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion , which offers far more functionality than AirPort Utility 6.0.
Keep both applications on your Mac (you cannot delete 6.0) and use the one that you need.
Using AirPort Utility 5.6.......click Manual Setup
Click the Base Station tab just under the row of icons to name the Express, assign a device password and adjust Time Zone settings
Click the Wireless tab and select the "Join a wireless network" setting for Wireless Mode
Be sure to enter a check mark in the box next to "Allow Ethernet Clients" and continue with the setup to Update the settings.

  • Join a wireless network and allow ethernet client?

When you set the wireless mode to "join a wireless network" there is a check box "allow ethernet clients". I understood the ethernet port was not active in this mode so what is the check box telling me??

The old Express units did NOT allow ethernet clients unless it was setup in WDS mode.
The new Express units do allow ethernet clients without using WDS just by checking the box "allow ethernet clients"....
This is a great new feature and only available in firmware version 7.3.1 for the new Express.
Even version 7.3 does NOT have this feature.

  • When we do a failover to a Replica, what happened to the connected clients? Assuming that the Replica is located in a remote DR site with a different IP configuration.

When we do a failover to a Replica, what happened to the connected clients? Assuming that the Replica is located in a remote DR site with a different IP configuration.
    Hi,
I need some guidance here, please.
I have some questions about replication:
When we do a failover to a Replica, what happened to the connected clients? Assuming that the Replica is located in a remote DR site with a different IP configuration.
Is possible to automate the failover process? Just like happens in a cluster.
What changes do I need to do in order to guarantee that my clients reach my replica? For example, I need to do a failover to my Exchange Server Replica and I need to minimize the downtime. The same applies for a DC or a SharePoint Server
      Thanks in advanced.

    Hi efebo,
“The same applies for a DC ”
As for replicating virtualized DC (Personally,  I do not suggest to replicate DC , even though it can be replicate ), please refer to following link:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn250021.aspx
     "In short, Exchange does
not support the Hyper-V Replica feature.  Exchange has a long history of supporting virtualisation from
Exchange 2003 onwards.  It is fully supported to install Exchange
    2007,
    2010 or
2013 as a virtual machine on Hyper-V, but using the Hyper-V replica feature is not supported.
For details please refer to following link:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/rmilne/archive/2013/07/29/exchange-and-hyper-v-replica-support.aspx
I assuming that the "Remote DR site" and the primary site both have public IPs .
Based on my knowledge  you can not access replica site VM  directly after a disaster , maybe you need to rebuild primary site and replicate VM back .

  • "Allow ethernet clients" missing?

    Hello,
I have firmware 7.4.x and I just want to put an old iMac on a wireless network, the iMac doesn't have WiFi but have LAN build in, so I am connecting iMac to the AX via LAN and got the AX to "Join a wireless network".
    It still doesn't work.
After googling around it seems that I have to check the "allow ethernet clients" box, but where is it?

Does the router creating the wireless network support ProxySTA? That is needed for this to work.

I have a problem that I try to turn on the iPad 2, but he was just lighting up, but nothing is displayed. I do not know what happened, but yesterday did not do this. Thank you for your help.

    Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected.

  • How do I add a wireless client in Airport Utility V. 6.0?  Option missing?

I am trying to add a wireless client to my Airport Extreme base station, version 6.0.  In previous versions, there was an option under "Base Station" to add a wireless client, but that seems to have been taken away.  First, why, when it seemed to be the perfect place for it?  Second, where was it moved?  I need to re-add my bridge after a power failure and it is SO frustrating!!

Suggest that you download and install the more functional AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion , which was available on the same day as AirPort Utility 6.0. It seems that a number of users have missed this.
You can keep both 5.6 and 6.0 on your Mac and use the one that you want. But, since 6.0 is now part of the Lion operating system, you cannot delete this application.

  • HT3500 To add a wireless adapter to my Airport Extreme network using WPS, documentation recommends adding it under "Add wireless clients" in Airport Utility but there's no such an item anywhere in v6

I am trying to connect an Iogear Wifi adapter from my home entertainment center to my Airport Extreme home network (secured with personal WPA) using WPS. Apple's support literature says to do this through Airport Utility (v.6) choosing Manual Setup from Base Station Menu and Add Wireless Client. After hours of searching and fiddling I cannot find "Manual setup" or "Add Wireless Client" in the Airport Utility (v.6). HELP.  andy

Those instructions are for Airport Utility v5.5.3 or v5.6. As a matter of fact, Airport Utility 6.0 does NOT have that options. So assuming you have Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4, you have to download and install Airport Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion. Then follow those simple instructions you have.

    Thanks

Thanks. Please review my post above to see that we asked five basic questions.
Looks like we got two answers.
Can you please provide answers to the other questions that we asked?
    1)  Are you trying to connect your Time Capsule to your modem using an Ethernet cable?
    2)  What is the make and model number of your modem?
    3)  Are you still using Lion (10.7.5) as you indicate in your profile, or have you updated to Mountain Lion or Mavericks?
I understand that things appear clear to you there, but we cannot read your mind or see your network, so we only know as much about your problem and your network as you can tell us.

  • HT1515 which version of Airport Utility is needed for my Airport Express A1084????

How can I find out which version of Airport Utility is needed for my Airport Express A1084????

I have this issue, too. The problem with the advice from Saito_Chickara is that Mavericks (I'm on 10.9.2) does not allow you to run AirPort Utility 5.x. So for those of us on Mavericks, what can we do? I have yet to find a solution. This is really frustrating.

  • What "ethernet port" does airport utility use for "remote administration"

I have a friend who was recently evangelized to Macs and bought a Macbook Pro and an Apple Airport Extreme (gigabit) Router, hereinafter called AE. The place where he lives has cable modem internet access and an older Linksys wireless-G router for the building, and I am trying to configure his new AE, prior to making it the primary router in the network (e.g. connected to the cable modem).
When the AE is completely configured the Linksys will be retired.
I remotely manage and maintain the network and some other computers in that house. The Linksys is configured for Remote Administration so I can manage it. I manage several PC's and Macs using Timbuktu Pro 8, with the necessary ports forwarded through to TB2 on those machines.
I am trying to configure the Airport so it also can be managed remotely, so from a workstation on that network (accessed from where I am using TB2) and running Airport Utility, I have checked "Allow setup over WAN" on the Airport/BaseStation page. Now I would like to test whether I can connect and remotely administer that Airport Extreme from Airport Utility on my Mac.
I assume that, if I can rout packets from my Airport Utility here through the internet to the public IP of the Linksys router there, I should be able to connect. But I can't.
My setup is this. The target AE has its WAN port connected to an ethernet port on the Linksys, as is the LAN in the remote building. Nothing is connected to the AE's ethernet ports at this time. The Linksys is the DHCP server, and the AE has an IP from it, as does all the other ethernet- and wireless-connected computers, printers, etc. The AE's wireless is active and the wireless-connected devices in the building can connect to either its base station or to that of the Linksys. When the Linksys is retired the AE will be the only wireless in the building.
I attempt to connect in the following way: On my Mac, I run Airport Utility. From the file menu I select "Configure other" and enter the public IP address of the remote Linksys, and give AE's password. There is a long wait
Reading the Airport wireless device configuration....
while Airport Utility tried to discover AE, and then
An error occurred while reading the configuration..... (-6753)
I suspect that my remote connection problem is due to the fact that the AE is behind the Linksys, and the proper port forwarding is not in place on it to pass the Airport Utility's packets through to the Wan port of the AE. This might be that I have not entered into the Linksys the correct port number to forward on to the AE. I've tried the three numbers in the list:
"Well known TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products" found at
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1629
that are mentioned as possibly being involved with Airport Utility; 192, 4500 and 5009.
    Advice will be appreciated.
    Bob

One example, and there may be others, is the (free) DynDNS dynamic DNS service which publishes a domain name for the WAN port of your router which can then be resolved, like all other domain names, to the actual IP address of the WAn port of your router. This service provides a solution to the problem of having a proper domain name in cases where your public IP address changes over time. Unless you pay for a static IP address, virtually all ISPs change your public IP address over time.
So, you can register for a free DynDNS account at www.dyndns.com and that is how you come up with the User: and Password: information; use whatever User and Password you register at dyndns.com with.
The first part of the hostname you can define as you wish, subject only to someone else having used it previously, and the remaining parts of the domain name might be "dyndns.org" or one of the other domain names provided by the DynDNS service. So, you could publish, via DynDNS, the name of your public IP address as, for example, joehlam.dyndns.org however you might want something less descriptive or more vague.

  • View wired clients in Airport Utility

In prior versions of Airport Utility one could see both the wired and wireless clients. Now you can only see the wireless clients. Being able to see the wired clients would better help me manage a household with computers, smart TVs, etc -- a mix of wired and wireless. Is the functionality now in another utility or is it just gone?

You can find it from terminal or network utility using netstat scan.
    It is not exactly convenient.
You can ping the broadcast address.. so I am using 192.168.2.x ip range.. I ping the address which is used for broadcast.. 255 and it will return results from all the live devices on the network. Although it doesn't tell you what is connected by ethernet and what is connected by wireless.. the ping delay will give you a good idea.. it will continually cycle so press control + c when you are finished.. so as I have shown it starts over again.. The first address with lowest response time is local host.
    ping 192.168.2.255
    PING 192.168.2.255 (192.168.2.255): 56 data bytes
