What happened to auto-lock in mountain lion? I need it back.

I had my whole company upgrade to Lion, so we could use the well thought out source control features of the desktop. One of the key features was auto-lock. This prevents someone from accenditally changing a document without commiting to it. The auto-locking made the other changes such as duplicate make sense.
Now these are gone in Mountain lion. Which also makes the other changes to the file system like duplicate superfluous.
How do we get them back? Do we have to be stuck in Lion forever? Who puts in new features in an OS, just to remove them wihtout an option in the next cycle? That is inane.
Is there any way to turn this back on?

Go through each of the sources Music, Movies etc. and select Playlists. Use the elipsis ... to enable sources.  Apps, Tones, and Internet Radio don't have a Playlists button, the others do and remember your selection. Not exactly the same as the old sidebar, but not too different.

  • What happens when I upgrade to mountain lion from snow leopard?

I currently have 2 partitions. my mac side and my windows 7 home side.
If i upgrade to mountain lion from snow leopard will i be expected to reinstall bootcamp and windows7 home along with all my other windows programs?
What happens to the partitions? do they stay the same or does the upgrade pretty much do a factory restore and make me start from square one again?
I have a time capsule. but do not really know how to work it like its supposed to. i just really use it to store data that i do not need on my partitions at the current times.

I do not have any knowledge about boorcamp but on my old MacBook with snowleapard,
I was not able to upgrade to Mountain Lion Because of my hardware I think.
    And about tha bootcamp partition:
there shouldn't be any problem with upgrading "if even possible" because the Mac partition
    can't edit the Windows partition.
I hope this helps you, but I would do some more research befor upgrading instead of completely trusting on my advise.

  • What Happened to Podcast Publisher in Mountain Lion?

I can no longer find my Podcast Publisher in Mountain Lion, Like I am real upset about that. I paid 19.99 to LOSE an app I use? It is even listed as available on the site EXCEPT when you try to go to the description. Is it incorporated somewhere else?

Hark, I fixed that. Had to do the same thing in time machine.

Had to remake the following path:  /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ServerKit.framework/Versions/A/
I had to manually re-creat this part of the file tree above, ServerKit.framework/Versions/A/
Then put the "Serverkit" file from time machine in the A directory
    should look like this:
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ServerKit.framework/Versions/A/ServerKit
Ran Podcast Capture and it pops up asking what server you want, cool!
I wonder if they dropped the ball on this or just figured no one wanted it?

If you are printing via a Windows shared printer and it is the Windows user account that you are being prompted for then you can save this in the Keychain, as shown below.

I would wait for Mountain Lion to be released. According to Apple, Mountain Lion will be released by end of July 2012.
It will cost you only $19.99 to upgrade. You can find all the details at the following link...

  • What happened to the "lock" symbol that used to appear when on a secure site? I haven't seen it since the last update, so it's either moved or you took it out. I really miss it!

What happened to the "lock" symbol that used to appear to signify that you were on a secure site? I haven't seen it since the previous update, so it's either moved & I haven't found it, or you took it out. If you did, I want it back!

It's stuck on a yellow question marked "multimedia audio controller." It doesn't like the CD drivers or the drivers snarfed from the aborted "you don't have an sb controller installed" pull from windows\temp\CF whatever it was. It's 3am and I've been trying to get this stupid thing running for 7 hours now. I'm going to bed. I will see if it is any smarter tomorrow morning.
It was running great until I did an "update from the web." If I hadn't have done that I'd have no complaints. Now it's hosed and I can't even get back to where I was before. I'm not impressed with creative's installation procedure.
However, there are many people complaining about the "you don't have an SB installed" problem. Creative needs a "delete everything" button, and an "install all new drivers" button. Take a page out of ATI's book in the number of headaches created by windows installer and come up with a way to fix them yourself. ATI did. This would at least get me back to the BSOD, which right now I'm longing for.
This is on a shuttle st6g4 with a disable ac97 sound nonsense with those drivers removed.

  • What happened to the mail format ? This didnt need changing!

what happened to the mail format ? This didnt need changing!
Is there a way to go back to 10.6.8 format .Im sick of reteaching myself new ****
I didnt need every time apple runs a new os!
    <Edited by Host>

More information would be helpful. What version of the OS are you running? What about the new layout don't you like? Try Mail/Preferences/Viewing and check use classic layout to see if that is what you want.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • HT201342 What happens if you don't have Lion or Mountain Lion?

All new iCloud Mail accounts now come with an @icloud.com email address. As an existing user, we'd like to offer you this new address as well. We have reserved [email protected] you, and you can now use this address with your iOS devices and computers by following these simple instructions.
If you prefer, you can continue to use your current email address just as you always have.
No matter which address you use, you'll continue to receive all your mail, whether it's sent to your @me.com, @mac.com, or @icloud.com address.
In the simple instructions it says.....
In OS X Mountain Lion or Lion v10.7.2 (or later)
Go to Mail Preferences > Composing.
Click the Send new messages from drop-down and select the @icloud.com email address you’d like to use.
Npo mention of other versions of OSX??????

If you have an earlier system and have already set Mail up manually to receive your iCloud email, go to Mail Preferences>Accounts, select the iCloud account and in the 'Email address' field add the @icloud.com version of the address, separated from the other(s) by a comma. (If you already have two addresses in there so that the end of the line is the right-hand side of the field, click in it and hold the right-arrow key down until you reach the end of the list). The @icloud.com address will now appear in the drop-down 'From' list when you compose a new message.
If you have an existing iCloud account and have not set up your older Mac yet, you can set Mail up manually to receive the emails (though you cannot open a new iCloud account on a pre-Lion Mac):
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Tiger

  • How to stop files from being locked in Mountain Lion?

In the last week, I have found several of the files that I have generated or downloaded have become locked.  Since Apple has eliminated the Auto locking feature that use to be in Time Machine.  The files include PDFs, PHGs, TXTs, etc.  How do I stop files from being locked?  How do I unlock the ones that are locked?  I can not emtpy my Trash.

When I went to "Get Info" on one of the locked files [a TXT file] per your steps, I noticed that the there was a Locked box checked.  I unchecked that box and was then able to remove the files from Trash without any further action.
Do you know why it got locked in the first place since Mountain Lion does not automatically lock files as the older OS X version did?  Do you know how to prevent it from happening again?
I want to thank you for your suggestion.

  • Efax locking in Mountain Lion

I have a Zoom USB fax modem, model 3095 attached to my 2012 Mac Mini running Mountain Lion, 10.8.2. I am unable to receive faxes after configuring it as as a USB fax and setting the appropriate receive options (save faxes to file and email to user, answer after two rings).
Looking in the fax logs, the problem seems to be locking.
    efax: 07:08 waiting for activity
    efax: 09:53 activity detected
efax: 09:53 Warning: can't answer: can't lock device
efax: 09:53 done, returning 1 (number busy or modem in use)
OS X maps the fax modem to the following device:
efax: 05:39 Warning: /dev/tty.usbmodem24680241 locked or busy. waiting.
efax: 05:47 Warning: /dev/tty.usbmodem24680241 locked or busy. waiting.
efax: 05:55 Warning: /dev/tty.usbmodem24680241 locked or busy. waiting.
efax: 06:11 Warning: /dev/tty.usbmodem24680241 locked or busy. waiting.
efax: 06:43 Warning: /dev/tty.usbmodem24680241 locked or busy. waiting.
What is the standard location for the lock files? Has anyone encountered this before?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Did you followed the steps below to configure the modem on Mountain Lion?

  • VNC and screen locking on mountain lion

I'm thinking of upgrading to mountain lion. Does anyone know if the builtin vnc protocall in 10.8 can enable the screen on the controlled mac to be locked/blanked. Ex: I control mac b from mac a. The screen on mac b is blanked or locked so passersby cannot see what i am doing. This was not possible in previous versions of the Mac OS. Any help/advice is appreciated.
    Thanks

To be able to lock the screen you have to install and configure a screen locker or screen saver, e.g. xscreensaver, slock, i3lock, maybe combined with  xautolock. When you use a screen locker and not xscreensaver, XFCE might not recognize it. Then create a symlink in /usr/local/bin/xflock4 or use a shellscript if you need to pass parameters.
My configuration: xautolock with i3lock. /usr/local/bin/xflock4 is this executable shellscript:
    #!/bin/sh
    xautolock -locknow
xautolock is started in the XFCE autostart with this commandline: xautolock -locker 'i3lock -d -i ~/Bilder/arch/arch-linux-lock.png'
PS: If you like i3lock and need user switching capabilities, I can give you a patch where Ctrl-S calls a custom command (gdmflexiserver by default)

  • Enabling automatic file lock in Mountain Lion?

The Autosave+duplicate+autolock features in lion where one of the best things to ever happen to the operating system. It provided a bit of source control right in the OS. Brilliant.
For the first time, people didn't accedentially tromp on old files when they ment to "save as", but pessed save instead. In our small company it was a huge improvement in file management.
In Mountain lion autolock is gone(!?!) And without it the autosave and duplicate features don't quite make sense on their own. Worse yet, you don't have to accedientally tromp on a file, the system will do it for you if you make changes before you "save as".
Anyway to turn on autosave? Even from the terminal?
P.S. Please don't dumb-down OS X. OS X should retain power user features. If some people don't want them, have a way to turn off the behavoir in preferences... don't just eliminate them.

One way is to right click on the font collection name and choose Enable from the contextual menu.

I'm running Mavericks and when I try to print on my networked HP LaserJet 1320tn I get the message  "Printing - The printer is in use." and nothing happens. The same set up works fine's with Mountain Lion. I am uptodate. Any thoughts?

    Hi,
Thanks, but these suggestions aren't helping.
    I have
    1. tried to print form a different add
    2. deleted and reinstaled the printer
    3. deleted and reinstall the printer drivers
    4. reset the printing system
there's no problem with the printer or the wireless as (1) i can print using my partner's mac with mountian lion and (2) I can see the printer on my own mac (mavericks)
