What happened to bitrate info for mp3's?

In OS X, it used to be possible to see the bitrate (e.g. 256kbps) for any music file in the preview pane of Finder windows or in the Get Info window for that file. Not anymore. OS X now tells me the sample rate, which is useless information because it is virtually always the same, but not the bitrate. Now I have to open the file in iTunes to get this information.
Is there any way to change this hopelessly lame "feature" back to the way it was?
Thanks!

Alansky, I am with you on this. I noticed that you can no longer see the bitrate info in finder since I upgraded to Mountain Lion (one of many things I don't like about it). It was a very useful little feature for a number of reasons. For example: if you do a search for a track which returns duplicates and you want to pick the best version, etc.
I redcently found a pluggin called Iced Audio (http://www.icedaudio.com) which could help you out in managing your music library. I haven't installed it myself yet as it seemed a little like overkill. Just thought I'd share it with you as it does seem to have some great features.
Cheers

  • What happened to "Save As" for pdfs in Lion?

What happened to "Save As" for pdfs in Lion? Now there's "Save a Version" which doens't appear to do anything, and Duplicate, which seems redundant...
How is this new approach saving me time?

    It's not, but it's Apple.
Apple's approach with its Versions and Autosave features is to do away with the need to Save As altogether since the system's default "Save" feature already does this.
As you make changes to a document, the system should continuously save all prior versions of it automatically, and you should be able to access these at any time and then duplicate it to continue working. In this way, the system is to an extent always performing "Save As" commands and leaving prior versions in the past, so instead of proactively saving a new copy to preserve your current layout, this layout should exist as-is which you can go to by browsing the saved versions, and then duplicating to a new document to continue working if needed.

  • What happened to the "Create New Mp3 Version" option in iTunes 11.2.2?

I tried going into the file encoder in Edit>Preferences>General>Import Options because there is usually an option that I can set it to that will allow me to make an mp3 copy of any song (purchased or copied off of a CD), but I see now that it does not work any more and I'm completely clueless as to why. I've been searching the threads but they have been no help. I've looked at the outdated support page, which says to do exactly the thing that no longer works for me. Can anyone help me? I'm using Win8 and would prefer not to use any converters outside of iTunes. Thank you!

Okay, for some reason, I tried this yesterday at least six times and it did not even change the settings. Today, I went into the Import Settings and changed it to mp3 encoder, hit 'OK', then hit 'OK' in the preference menu (same thing I did yesterday) and it suddenly decided to show up. That was weird... Sorry, but thanks for writing anyway. I don't know what happened...

  • Where I can find bitrate info for audio file?

I just upgrade to OS X 10.9.2 and I can't find bitrate informations for audio file in Finder's info window. Is there someone with the same problem?

Here's an Automator Service that wil give you a pop-up:
(Highlight the audio file, right click and select the service name)
    Open Automator, Select Service.
    The Service is:
The Run Shell Script Action is:
    echo $(( $(mdls -raw -name kMDItemTotalBitRate "$1" ) /1000 ))  \(File: "${1##*/}"\)
    The AppleScript is:
    on run {input, parameters}
display dialog "Total bit rate: " & input buttons {"OK"} default button 1
              return input
    end run

  • Whats most common naming convention for MP3s (what does iTunes store use?)

Trying to organise all my tags and music.
I am using iTunes and some other tag (tag%rename) WMP etc, as some seem to not show all the tgs of other programs)
However what is the generalised, most common naming convention for MP3 files?
ie. track no, Album, artist etc.
Also Ive never bought music from iTunes store yet, only got podcasts and stuff, but when you do , what is the filename convention they use please?
    cheers

iTunes has no automatic tag look up function for anything other than CDs (through GraceNote). I import a lot of mp3s (legally obtained) that need tweaking. Also, GraceNote doesn't provide lyrics. If I just need to edit a couple of tracks, the iTunes interface is fine. But for bulk adding of artwork or searching for release dates or lyrics, I use MpFreaker. I find it works best if you do small batches and keep an eye on what it comes up with. Sometimes, well, rarely, it's way off base.
There may be better utilities out there but MpFreaker was recommended to me by someone I trust who spends a lot of time reviewing such things and it works for me so I haven't looked for anything else. You might find more reviews of other software at www.ilounge.com
    Best of luck.

  • No Song Info for mp3 files that haven't been imported by iTunes??

Since iTunes won't automatically recognize an mp3 CD, I just drag and drop into my iTunes library. However, when I try to use the get track info for the mp3s I dragged in, I get a message saying; "iTunes cannot get CD track names for songs that were not imported using iTunes. To allow iTunes to look for CD track names for this song, import the song again using iTunes." Is there any way to get iTunes to automatically import an mp3 CD as it would automatically import an audio CD? I can't think of any other way to get around this problem.

  • What happened to scanning software for the HP 3050A?

After scaning succesfully for 2 years from my HP 3050A to my Macbook Pro I got a "Scanning software for this printer is currently unavailable" message on my laptop today when I tryed to scan from my laptop.  And when I press the "Scan" button on the printer it say "Computer not found" (even though it can find my computer quite nicely for print jobs).  What happened?  How can I get my scanning software back?
    This question was solved.

Hi Yakatack and welcome to the HP forums!
I'm sorry to hear about your scanning woes with the Deskjet 3050a but I'd be happy to help once I've gathered a bit more information
    1. Which version of Mac is on your computer?
    1. a) Did you recently upgrade to said operating system?
    2. Is the printer connected via USB or wireless?
    3. Have there been any software changes/updates that you're aware of recently?
    4. Are you able to scan through System Preferences, Image Capture or Preview at all?
If you have not recently upgraded your operating system or changed anything else on the computer, and the printer is wireless to the Mac, please power cycle your network. This entails turning off the printer and the Mac, pull the power cord on the router for 30 seconds and then when it's back up, turn everything else back on and try to scan once it all settles.
Hope to hear back from you soon

  • What happened to English definitions for Japanese words?

I have an iPhone 4S.  When I was using iOS 5.1.1 I was able to hold my finger on a Japanese word in an email message and buttons would pop up, one of which said "define."  When I touched that button I would see the definition in English as well as in Japanese, and the correct pronounciation.  Now that I have upgraded to iOS 6 I can only see the definition and pronounciation in Japanese, the English definition no longer appears.  Do I need to change a setting to get the English defnitions turned back on?  What happened to this incredibly useful feature??

  • What happens during the "Waiting for UDev uevents to be processed"?

    Hello dear archers,
I have arch installed on my laptop, working great, I really love it.
Only one thing bother me and I would like to solve it: at boot time, the system waits for about 15s on the stage "Waiting for UDev uevents to be processed".
Is it normal? What is it doing exactly during this stage: loading modules?
I try to see in my logs but I can't find anything related to this. How can I know if there is not some kind of issue which make him takes so long ? How can I improve this ?

Thank you for all your answers.
Well, according to the man page and rc.sysinit, udevadm command in the rc.sysinit script does:
    /sbin/udevadm settle
    /sbin/udevadm control --property=STARTUP=
I assume this is the settle command which takes time.
But how can I list the uevents in the queue the udevadm settle command is waiting for ? If possible, with the delay of treatment of each of these uevents during the boot...
I have nothing related to this in my logs.
Regarding my hardware, I have one toshiba laptop P300-220 with two internal hard drives (and many partitions on them). But no external drive.

  • After stopping replication what happens to the table for which we have stopped replication

    Hello Team
Once we stop a replication for a table then does the table still exists in HANA DB . Next time when we have requirement for replicating this table what precautions we need to take .
    Regards

    Hi Prag,
When you use Stop replication, the table still exists on HANA DB.
When LT server is used for replication, with Stop repication option then in the source system the DB triggers and the logging tables are deleted and hence no changes to the data recorded.
If you wish to perform replication again then you need to perform initial load and then replicate then the latest changes to the data are visible.
    Best Regards,
    Ranjit

  • What happened to CS6 upgrade for Mac? and what think of subscription?

It was usually $200 or so on Amazon and now it's gone.
What do people think of this subscription thing? It seems just like a way for Adobe to extract more money out of us. Am I wrong?

You download and install the software on your computer, same as you've always done. The software runs on your computer, same as it's always done.
