What happened to Database Control?

Why are all OEM topics now forced to reside under the heading "Grid Control"? Grid Control is not the only OEM management option. In fact, it's not even the default: Database Control is installed with any basic 10g installation and serves as the default OEM manager.
Since 10g was released, I often see the terms "OEM" and "Grid Control" used interchangably, and that's not correct on a global level. Both options exist, and anyone running a single database instance is much more likely to use Database Control over Grid control, or if they don't have a terabyte of physical memory on their host.

Hi John!
I use VMware. I've created a RedHat 3.0 virtual machine and started it with 1 GB of RAM. Then I install EMGC and the local agent. I shutdown everything including the VM and edit its setting to come up with 512 MB.
Boot, start the GC and voila! it works. This is of course not a production ready system, but we have a working EMGC for a couple of machines (100+) on a 2 CPU with 4 GB in production.

  • What happened to the controls in QuickTime?

I like the new look of QuickTime, but what happened to the controls for editing video? I used to be able to hit the "I" key for inpoint, and the "O" key for endpoint, and then hit delete to remove that section. Now, I have to drag the selection tool around to do the cut. This is very awkward, especially when I need to fine-tune the areas where the cut is to be made.
Are there any tips on doing some more fine-tuned edits in QuickTime?

I second SwagMeyer's request. He's not asking for any advanced trimming feature that would make things more difficult for the simple user: the IN and OUT shortcuts were presents and "invisible" also in QuickTimePro 7 and they would not affect that easiness of the application.

Well, you can't really make a judgement about a company's enterprise products based on an experience with their consumer products. What if it came from what they call a business products catalog? They intermingle laptops with servers.
Don't know, in general. I do know that for Dell there is a distinct difference between their decidedly consumer laptops (Inspiron) and their "business" Lattitude series. I know that at my last job we had a lot of rock solid HP equipment (servers and SAN) - vs. an HP laptop I had that was trouble from Day One. I'm sure there is a point in desktops and laptops the line can get blurred, but in the case of the OP, he was no where near that fuzzy line.

  • What happened to command control D over text?

In Snow Leopard and Lion, you could hold down command control D over text (try it in TextEdit or Safari) and the definition for the word would pop up.
What happened to this?  Why is it gone?  How can this be restored?
    Anyone?
It is so bothersome when functionality you've been using for years mysteriously goes away.

    Alex Zavatone wrote:
OMG.  Now it does it on the release of the keys.  Previously, you had to wait for it to display.
I'm still on Lion and the definition doesn't appear until you release the keys. I tested it in Safari and TextEdit. I think your mind is playing tricks on you!

  • What happened to online controls

No matter where I go or what I click on, all I get is something else that takes me to upgrade features.  I'm as high as I can go and don't need any upgrades.  I just want to manage phone controls online.

Sorry for the troubles with the site. Only FIOS Digital Voice customers can manage their calling features form online. Regular FIOS Voice customers are not able to do this. If you have the Digital Voice service, you can log in at www.verizon.com/fiosvoice to access your call logs and change calling features. If you try to log in to the site and you have our regular FIOS Voice, then you will be prompted to upgrade to the Digital Voice to be able to proceed. Sorry for the confusion this has caused.

    Sorry for my english.

    Hi,
It looks like you are using com.oracle.coherence.handson.DBCacheStore.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13924_01/coh.340/e14135/cohjdev.htm
If so, then I think that you could simply change the following method in the DBCacheStore ...
    public Connection getConnection()
            if (m_con == null || m_con.isClosed())
                configureConnection();
            return m_con;
            }Thanks,

  • What happened to the Control M to minimize the iTunes to playback controls only?

I used to use Control+M to minimize iTunes to the playback controls only. This has disappeared with recent updates. The help files refer to a zoom control in the upper left corner of the iTunes window that does not exist. How do I regain the functionality of the playback only controls?

You may have discovered this in the last several months but I'm pretty sure the "control+m" shortcut was replaced with "control+shift+m"

  • Logic board failure in MBP purchased 5/2011? What happened to quality control?

This  MBP has only been in the two houses that I live in and has never been utilized in my travels.
Has been in a hard case and never dropped.
I could see this in a cheap laptop but the MBP wasn't cheap to buy and now is not cheap to fix less than 14 months out from purchase.
Has the high resolution optional screen and otherwise utilized 4-5 times per week for short periods.
My 10 year old G4 iMac is still running strong while this paperweight is now out for repairs. Anybody seen similar issues?

Electronics aren't invincible and although Apple products tend to last a long time, things do happen (not always your fault). That's why Apple products have a one year warranty. You mentioned you'd had it less than 14 months. If you've had it less than a year than take it to Apple. If you've had it more than a year than hopefully you have AppleCare.
    Good luck!

  • What happened to command-control-a

This used to open a window allowing one to grab embedded videos.  Now it doesn't work.
Is there another commmand that replaces it?

    Didn't suggest that (don't think I did).
Anyway, try installing both ClickToFlash and ClickToPlugin (I have both installed).
Then, test with any youtube video.  (click to start the video, then right click and look for "Download Video")
Edit: OK I see you tried with both installed.  Should work.
    Check the settings: http://hoyois.github.io/safariextensions/clicktoplugin/#settings
Edit: Go to Safari->Preferences->Extensions, then ClickToPlugin, and click: "Click this checkbox to access settings":
A new Safari Tab will open,
Then in the ShortCut Menu Tab, click Download Video:

  • In case of a DB crash what happens to the status of the Control File

When a DB is crashed will the Control file that exists in the OS also get corrupted, What happens to the Data Files , how to recover the Control files and Data Files , the DB in case there isn't any Backup media or any Dump available on the DB.

The only one way to recover a database is to be in archivelog mode.
And if I said about recover stricto sensu, that's because even in noarchivelog mode we need to use the command recover until cancel before an open with resetlogs option, even if we haven't any redo/archive logs. That fake a recover, this is what we say a mimic recover. Which is not a recover stricto sensu like it can be the case with archivelog mode.

  • Lack of options in iCloud control panel compared to MobileMe Control panel, so now what happens if there is a conflict of data (Cloud vs  Computer)?

Back then when we were syncing with MobileME, the control panel allows us to decide what to do when there is a conflit of data in the cloud vs the information on our computer.  We were given the option of Replacing information in Me with information on the computer or vice versa, but now we do not have any of these options.  And currently when i sync my computer with icloud, i dont know if the information (Contacts, Bookmarks) will be replaced with the current informaiton on the iCloud (transfered from MobileMe) or they will merge (if they merge then i would have double of contacts, bookmarks??) or the information in the iCloud would be replaced?
If we had more options in the control panel of iCloud, then things can be simplier.  However, with the current iCloud control panel, we have no way of knowing what happens when there is a conflict and we won't know what action the iCloud would take for the conflict of information.
So currently i still dont know if my Favourites (Bookmarks) will be replaced or not.
Does anyone know if we can wipe out the info on iCloud and replace it with the data (Contacts, bookmark, calendars etc) on our computer?

This is what I did...not ideal but seems to work for right now till iCloud actually syncs contacts into Outlook 2010 (PC/Win 7) like Mobile Me used to.  I opened the contacts in the iCloud contact address boxes in Outlook.  I selected all contacts by selecting one and then Ctrl-A (selects all), then Ctrl-C (copies all).  Then I went into the Outlook Contact folder which is blank from iCloud "stealing" all my contacts and in that empty box I hit Ctrl-V to past all contacts in.  I am now able to use my contacts when emailing in Outlook.
Of course, any changes I make to my iPhone contact list or via iCloud will only sync back to the iCloud contacts lists in Outlook (and not Outlook's main calendar) so occassionally I'm thinking I'll need to go back and do this all again either figuring out a way to only copy new contacts over, or going into Outlook Contacts and deleting all of those, going back to Outlook iCloud contacts (which are syncing but not communicating with other aspects of Outlook like mail) and then do the process all over (select all, copy, paste).
Seems silly that contacts can't work the same as they did with Mobile Me but it seems like Apple has a tendancy with everything but their actual iDevices to be screwy when things are working and make things more complicated.  I was not looking towards this day as I knew there would be some stupid issue as it seems like it always is that way with their new software rollouts.  In fact, I use Outlook 2010 through Parrells still cause their Mac version still won't sync even calendars...at least iCloud is still doing that with Outlook 2010 Windows...though still the same issue as Mobile Me that it doesn't sync with the main calendar...but I can still use it and sync well to the iPhone.

  • What happen during shutdown oracle database

    Dear All,
i have a questions and i enclosed some suggestions for the answer because I'm confused about the answers :
What happens during shutdown oracle database :
    and the suggested answer :
1- When shutdown the database with NORMAL or IMMEDIATE option : the database system writes check point before shutting down the database .
2- when you shutdown the database with the IMMEDIATE , option , open transaction are rolled back before the database is shutdown .
3- shutting down the database with abort always requires an instance recovery at the next startup .
please suggest the right answer .
    Regards

    Hi Anwar,
When you close a database, Oracle writes all database data and recovery data in the SGA to the datafiles and redo log files, respectively. Next, Oracle closes all online datafiles and redo log files.
When you terminate the instance of an open database/use abort command to close and completely shut down the database the writing of all data in the buffers of the SGA to the datafiles and redo log files is skipped. The subsequent reopening of the database requires recovery, which Oracle performs automatically.
I hope this will help you out to understand the process.

First of all shutdown has 4 options
    1.Normal
    2.Immediate
    3.Transactional
    4.Abort
    Default is normal
Normal: No new connections are allowed. Database and redo buffers are written into disk.Database is closed.
Backgroud process are terminated.SGA is deallocated. Until and unless all users disconnect, database wont be closed.
Transactional: No client can start a new transaction. Clients get disconnected once their transactions are completed.
Database and redo buffers are written into disk.Database is closed.Backgroud process are terminated.SGA is deallocated.
Immediate: Current running SQL are not completed. Oracle does not wait for users to disconnect.
All active transactions are rolled back.Database and redo buffers are written into disk.
Database is closed.Backgroud process are terminated.SGA is deallocated.
Abort: All users are disconnected.Database and redo buffers are NOT written into disk.
All background processes are killed instantly and instance is abruptly terminated.

  • What happened to the pull down picture control for desktop pictures?

What happened to the pull down picture control for desktop pictures? Today as I was changing my desktop picture I saw the control that allows you to adjust the picture vannish!
Where did it go and how do I get it back?

Solved my own problem. From the finder I opened a picture that I wanted to use for my desktop with Firefox and from there I opened the Desktop and Screensaver preferences and the missing pulldown was back.
My theory of the problem is that I had selected the "Change Picture" box and that eliminated the picture adjustment pull-down menu and it didn't come back after deselecting the "Change Picture" box.
