What happened to File Save & Save as ?

I'm new to LR & so far my workflow has stalled.
Edits I just want to be able to rename & save .......Export is a minefield. I get file names with Edit - Edit suffixes in LR that are not what I am after. I just want to be able to crop, straighten & minor edit plus add copyright text in .jpgs & save them with a new name. I retain the image No. and add a prefix & suffix for my file names - LR only seems to be able to add a prefix to the image No. (with unwanted dash) and only a sequential No. suffix.
Am I alone on this ? Conceptually LR is good but not sure that it has earned the 'professional' tag just yet.

Yes, of course Overwrite means Overwrite or in other word Replace the existing file. Why would Lightroom's Export Dialog give you these choices? (rhetorical question).
Well, you can indeed choose Unique names and Lightroom will create a new file, leaving the original unaltered; and that is what you should do. Try choosing Unique Names and use the Custom Name from the File Naming drop-down. Use the same file name but with mixed upper and lowercase. What do you get then? You get the same Window asking you to "Use Unique Names" or "Replace". Perfect from Lightroom, because Windows is not case sensitive.
(You probably know that Windows is not case sensitive as regards filenames or file extension, so Test1.jpg is the same as TEST1.JPG and TesT1.JpG etc etc. Totally unlike Unix/Linux type systems where each such file is unique. But Unix/Linux system do not use the extension to determine what program opens a particular file type, it uses contents of the file instead to decide that.)
Furthermore, you should always export to a different folder, call it what you like, for example LRExports.

We can all get through various gamuts of emotion, but always use the CourtesyProfile.icM. That profile is freely available and works with all contributors. It basically maps all red colours to a reasonable level.)

What happened to the Save Frame As... on the File menu? It was there in FF 3.6; it's absent now.

My data source is a daily table on a Web page. In FF 3.16 I click in the table and select File>Save Frame As.... In the Save As dialog box, I key a file name ending in ".txt". The data is saved in a tab-separated text file that I open in Excel.
In FF 5.0.1 File>Save Page As… results in Excel opening a blank sheet.

Right-click the frame with that file to get "This Frame" > "Save Frame as"

Whats happened to file sharing apps? how do i add save files in office HD, keynote, VLC etc.....seems to have disapered in itune 11...apple why do you do this?

Believe it or not File Sharing is there but in a slightly different location. But I was definitely confused and had trouble finding it when I looked because of the way iTunes has windows within windows.
Start iTunes 11 and connect your iPad.
Select your iPad. I choose to "View Sidebar" so my iTunes looks more familiar. So I select my iPad in the Sidebar.
I the main window I select Apps. And scroll down.
There are multiple sub windows within the main window. The first sub wind is Apps. If you scroll in the Apps window that's all you will see, your apps.
Move your cursor outside of the App window and the main window will scroll. Below the Apps sub window is another subwidow called File Sharing. That's where you'll find the familiar file sharing area.

I would rely heavily on "Save As...' to use previous presentations as templates. It seems that the Save As function has been changed to something else in OSX Lion. Is there a way to restore it? And it not, what's the best way to accomplish the same task under Lion? Thanks so much!

What happened to the save as option in saving docs with new name?

The question above refers to my mac newly upgraded to Lion 10.7.2 and added iPages 09. I looked at the help menu for a way to save a doc I am working on and name it something else and save it somewere else. I found a pull down window in the help menu that says choose file and then choose save as and then to specify a name and location.
The only problem is when I choose file the drop down menu only has the option to save a version. There is no option of save as and no way to specify a name and location.
Can anyone offer a suggestion?

+ sign is to indicate the diskgroup you intended to place datafile. this apply to all database files.
without + sign,will be place in ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory. there will be NO error.
see example here: without using +
SQL> create tablespace test45 datafile 'temdg' size 10m;
Tablespace created.
SQL> select name from v$datafile;
NAME
/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/dbs/temdg
7 rows selected.
second example: with using + sign to specify diskgroup
SQL> create tablespace test55 datafile '+temdg' size 10m;
Tablespace created.
SQL> select name from v$datafile;
NAME

What happens to files when they are deleted on the iPhone?

When you delete files like videos, podcasts or emails directly on the iPhone by swiping it and hitting the "Delete" button what happens to these files? Are they instantly removed from disk or they go to some sort of "Recycle Bin"?
Do you know that bar on iTunes showing how your iPhone disk is being used, with "Audio, Video, Photos, Apps, Other and Free"?
I wonder if having more than 4Gb on the "Other" category is related to this practice in any way?

Other includes data such as 3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app, email stored or cached locally including email attachments, Safari history, cookies, and cache, notes, voice memos, visual voicemail, contacts, calendar events, etc.

How can I watch for an alarm, then wait to see what happens before the save?

I have resurrected an old project, thus using outdated software (LV6.0.2)... any help is awesome.
I am attempting to gather strain gage information on a piece of equipment. Ideally, when the strain gage level reaches a certain point, I would like to cause an alarm that alerts the user, gathers data for an additional xx seconds, then dumps all this information into a file. Thus saving the information leading up to the event, and the system response following.
Though I haven't figured out how to preset the file name, (working on that), my current hurdle is figuring out how to get LV to continue saving data after the initial alarm. I can dump the information directly to a file, but its the continuation that stumps me.
Any help is good help.

Due to my extensive self-taught knowledge of LV, simplified versions are all I can currently create. At the moment, I am trying to gather concepts for later final assembly, as I am an electrical engineering student working at an internship where I am the only EE on staff. How am I doing it?? Good question.. Still figuring that part out. Currently I acquire a sample of 83 points w/ rate at 5000. This was chosen as 1 complete cycle of 60Hz to remove unwanted noise. These 83 samples are put trough the 'mean' function, and scaled appropriately to allow accurate results from the 'Strain Conv' function, then processed to achieve accuracy in psi and sent to a chart for real time observations, and to a tunnel for indexing.
I would like to add an alarm to indicate when the output hits xxxx (roughly 15000), acquire an additional 10 seconds of information, then save this to a file.
Thus far I was planning on trying Sequence loops...
Frame 1: use a 'sequence local' to get the initial data to later frames, where the alarm would stop the first while loop.
Frame 2: continue sampling the data for xx seconds, send to another sequence local
Frame 3: gather both locals together, build new array, save this to a file... Hopefully with a time/date like stamp as a file name to allow it to run un-monitored for an extended period of time.
As this is a new venture, I have thus far not attempted frames 2 & 3 yet, working on that. I am guessing that the tick count you are referring to in your suggestion is from the iteration counter ('i' in a blue box), inside the while loop. I will work on that.
I also recently contacted CC for assistance creating a time/date stamp for the file name... do you think this could work? (didn't ask this specifically) and I still haven't figured out how to create a file path from this. (granted the whole file path thing is a mystery in general)
Plus.... when events happen, all data from the beginning of the aquisition run is saved, the longer the run, the longer the file. Is there a way to limit this to say.... the last 3000 samples? I think it would have something to do with creating an array xx long to start, then filling it, when the array is full the next point in the top will kick the last one out the bottom. (i think)

What happened to the Save As... function

Title says it all. Can't find this in Pages. Just hoping either there is a fix, or by some miracle someone from Apple is reading this and tells the software engineers to put it back. Why would you get rid of it. As it stands right now I have to duplicate it and rename it. That is just silly. If I need to put it into another folder I then have to use the move function. I used to be able to do all three things with one menu item, "Save As...". That was efficient, what I have right now is not. Maybe I will have to go back to using Microsoft Office.

Apple did hear the complaints & Save As… was returned with Mountain Lion & iWork 9.3. Hold down the Option/alt key while clicking on the File menu & "Duplicate" will change to "Save As…"
Or use this method by TUAW to change the keyboard shortcut.

What happened with the "save and quit" option when closing multiple tabs?!

I loved this little function and now it is gone?! If there is no way to get it back I will either go back to mozilla 3.6 or turn to other browsers.... Very dissapointed!

Firefox 4 automatically saves your session when you close Firefox, but it doesn't automatically restore that session the next you open Firefox. You can use '''Restore Previous Session''' on the about:home page or in the History menu item.

What happened to the "save tabs and close" feature? I loved that!

Firefox v3.x gave me the option to close with several tabs open and save them data so it would reopen to those same tabs. I can't find a way to ask FF4 to do the same thing. :-(

Firefox now always stores the old session, and you can access it by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session"
If you want Firefox to display the message to save the session, it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.

What happened to file saving options in Lion?!

I recently upgraded my Mac to OS X Lion and Photoshop CS5 seems to be working normally, albeit a little sluggishly, since the upgrade. However, when I create a new Photoshop file, create some layers, then "Save As", all my normal format options are missing. The only choices I am offered are Large Document Format, Photoshop RAW and TIFF.
If I open a JPG or PSD file, there's no problem. The "Save As" command gives me a normal file saving window with the normal format options. But a new file transforms itself into something totally alien! What's going on here?

I think you're right. I was creating some banner text and did stretch the document borders out to quite a large size for convenience. I have since moved half the text to a second document and my PSD doesn't turn into a pumpkin when I open the "Save As" window.

What happens with files I PUT on server?

I am using the CF Developer app to test a new website I'm
designing and have PUT files on CF/server and now need to uninstall
program. First, is it necessary or a good idea to GET or delete
files I've PUT on CF/server before I uninstall CF, for privacy,
etc..? Second, how do I accomplish this?
Also, where can I find CF code to process a form on my
website that includes check boxes, radio buttons, and a
comment/question field? Would also be nice to validate a check box
was checked and selection made from radio buttons. Keep in mind I'm
someone with very little coding experience.

Which files are you referring to that you need/want to
delete? html/cfm files? I would suppose you may want to delete them
if several other people are sharing the same server and you dont
want them looking at your files.
The form processing really depends on what you want to do.
Are you planning on inserting that information into a database?
Just displaying the information on a page? Emailing the
information?
The cfforms are not much different from an html form, with
the exception you add "cf" in front of the form tags and it has
some built in validation.
Heres an example of a basic form with a checkbox.

Once you submit the form, it will resend the form variables
back to itself - so if you needed to display the form variable -

When I migrate files to my new macbook pro are they removed from my pc or just copied? Will my MS Word files open with "Pages"? Will my MS Excel files open with "Numbers"?
