What happened to Find My iPhone?

I can not find the Find my iPhone app(?) on my iMac. I used it before when I had Lion. It is on my pad and my phone.

Hey Csound,
I lost my phone 2 days ago. It's battery has turned down. I had a screen lock, plus simlock (pin code) on the iPhone. In this situation, if someone else charges it and try to turn it on, can I see it? I presume, it needs to be the unlocked in order to get online, right? even if he/she takes the simcard out and puts a new one in, still it can not get connected to the internet because of the screen lock right?

  • Sorry but I think this wrong, I know that in Colombia there and two of the three operators already have 4G/LTE networks, what happens is that the iPhone should be expected to send the update software for computers that have this tercnologia activate them,

sorry but I think this wrong, I know that in Colombia there and two of the three operators already have 4G/LTE networks, what happens is that the iPhone should be expected to send the update software for computers that have this tercnologia activate them, that my Iphone or receiving 5 supports 4G LTE,
    Thank you for your attention

Apple needs to test the carrier if they offer LTE as expected.
If your country/carrier is not on the list then there's no LTE on your iPhone.

  • When syncing selected books, what happens to books on iphone?

    Hello,
I am curious about how syncing "selected books" will treat files that are on my iphone but not listed in itunes as a file to select.
Basically, I have downloaded multiple PDFs directly onto my iPhone, several of which are not currently synced w/ my computer.  When I choose to sync "selected books", these newer files are not listed which prevents the option of selecting them.
    So my main question:
what happens to the newer files?
Will they  sync w/ my computer even though they are not selected?
Will they be permanently deleted since they are not selected as part of the sync list?
Will they be copied to my computer, but then deleted from my iphone?
(i.e. after syncing, newer files wouldn't be on my phone, but I would have the option to select those files & re-sync to get them back on my phone)
Please note, I don't want to sync "all books" because there are several old &/or outdated PDF files that would be copied back to my iPhone that I don't want
side question: is there a way to permanently delete some of those old PDFs from the list of possible PDFs to sync? (so that they are no longer listed when selecting which files to sync)
-- some of the PDFs were e-mail attachments that I never intended to store in iBooks, so it would be great if I didn't have to sort through those files in order to find the files I do want
Please note, the files in question were not obtained from the iBook store, so unless they are included w/ the sync, I will loose the files.
    Thanks in advance !!

  • What happens to my apple iphone when I jailbreak it

What happens to you iphone when it is "jailbreak" to put a spy app or any other reason you would need to do this?

You violate the software license agreement, you void your warranty, you lose all support from Apple or this forum, your risk rendereing your iphone useless.

  • What happened to Find/Change Special Characters

I am a recent update from FrameMaker 9 to FrameMaker 11. I use many notations with non-breaking hyphens and non-breaking spaces. In version 9 I was able to use the hex codes in the Find/Change dialog box and find and replace those notations. Now in version 11, it does not find those characters. I end up finding more than I want.
For Example: I want to find
    (E-Vote Sept. 12, 2008)
This text has a non-breaking hyphen and the spaces shown are non-breaking also. When I entered these characters into the document, I used "Esc hyphen h" key sequence for the hyphen and "Control+space" for the spaces.
When I enter "(E\x15Vote\x10Sept.\x1012,\x102008)" and press the Find button, FrameMaker converts the text to "(E\+Vote\s#Sept.\s#12,\s#2008)" and returns with a statement "Not Found." I get the same error if I copy the text and paste it into the Find/Change Dialog box. I have tried this with the "Consider Case," "Use Wildcards" and the "Whole Word" checks both off and on. I can't get it to find it.
Honestly, I never noticed if verstion 9 did the conversion, from \x15 to \+ and \x10 to \s#, in the Find/Change dialog box because it always found what I was looking for.
I hope someone can tell me how to fix this because this is a function that I use all the time in FrameMaker. I use non-breaking hyphens and spaces all over my documents.
I have also reported this as a bug because that is what if feels like to me. I did go out and updated my installation of FrameMaker, thinking that this may have been reported and fixed already.

    Chris,
That's odd. It (dialog-box codes) works for me on my systems:
Using the dialog-box codes works perfectly. The unicode values for the non-breaking space (nbsp = \u00A0) and non-breaking hyphen (\u2011), however, aren't working. It looks like the wrong glyph is being substituted in both cases.
This is definiely a bug when doing a unicode-value search.

  • WTH???? What happened to Finder preferences?

Once I finally (3 days ago) decided to take the leap and update to Yosemite, my Finder preferences window comes up blank! Help please

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • What happened to Finder's List View?

Back in Leopard, I used to be able to click on Name to get a folder sorted by Name (acsending) click on it again for descending order. Same with other columns showing. I used to be able to drag out the column width of names to actually read long filenames (IIRC) wow- how useful that is.
Can't do any of this in (bug mecca) Lion... and suggesetions?

So to return a list view to old state where above is possible I need to goto the "Change the item arrangement" Drop down and set it to none.

  • My ipad mini was stolen and i have activated the find my phone to lock it. how can i get the serial number off my itunes or icloud profile? and what are the chances that the find my iphone app works when someome erases the device?

my ipad mini has been stolen and i have activated the find my iphone to lock. now it is only a wifi device so what are the chances that a person can get hold of it and log onto wifi without the password of my device to unlock. does that not make the app rather less useful as i have to hope that the person is apt enough to log onto the internet but not enough to erase it and start afresh. is it possible to find my device even afte someone has erased it?

"Losing your iPhone feels lousy. Thankfully, iCloud can help you get it back. But if it looks like that’s not going to happen, new Find My iPhone features in iOS 7 make it harder for anyone who’s not you to use or sell your device. Now turning off Find My iPhone or erasing your device requires your Apple ID and password. Find My iPhone can also continue to display a custom message, even after your device is erased. And your Apple ID and password are required before anyone can reactivate it."

Yes, but installing firmware updates when made available probably won't be possible.

  • What happens to an iPhone after it is exchanged at an Apple Store?

I recently exchanged an iPhone after it was diagnosed with a defective battery. AppleCare took care of it and I was given a new iPhone to replace it. I'm just wondering what happens to these returned iPhones. Are they fixed and brought back out to the market for resale? Can anyone from Apple let me know?
Having been a victim of identity theft, I am concerned at the information (pictures, videos, financial info, passwords, etc.) that were previously stored there. I did an "Erase All Content and Settings" before returning it but I'm concerned that maybe someone can somehow restore all that information.
    Thanks.

When it comes to deletion of all content, would you know if anyone can recover the data previously stored even though it is refurbished? The phone was generally in good condition (just needs a new battery).

  • Find My iPhone killed by "wipe" - rock and a hard place :-(

Here is a little story that did not end well, but maybe I am not understanding how Find My iPhone works.  If I'm not, please let me know.
Last week my wife lost her iPhone and so we went through these steps:-
    1. Used Find My iPhone to locate it - but it was switched off or out of range
    2. Sent an alert to the phone requesting the finder call my iPhone's number
    3. Waited for something to happen, checking Find My iPhone periodically, but it was not located
So here is the tough choice.  "Wipe" the phone and destroy the "Find My iPhone" capability OR don't wipe it and maybe expose the data in the phone to unauthorized access.  Not much of a choice.
So we decided to "wipe" the data off the iPhone, assuming that AT&T would still be able to locate the phone by its unique ID.
About 24 hours later, MobileMe sent my wife an email to advise that the "wipe was successful".
So somebody turned the phone on.  We will never know if that "somebody" was willing to return the phone or planned to keep it, because "wipe" ensured that we could no longer communicate with the finder of the iPhone and we could no longer locate it.
On top of that AT&T told us that they could not use the iPhone's unique ID to help recover it, and that if someone decided to put another SIM card into the phone, then my wife's iPhone was theirs, and AT&T could/would do nothing to stop them.
What's wrong with this picture?  Quite a lot, if you think it through!!
Is there anything we could have done better or could do now to get this iPhone back?

The answer to both questions is no, unfortunately.
If someone "finds" an iPhone, all they need to do is wipe it and the true owner cannot use Find my iPhone any more.
Cell phone companies won't track down a missing phone, or help in finding it unless directed so by law enforcement.
Bottom line is that we all have to be more careful of our valuables, in this case the iPhone.
