What happened to "identical photo" warning

I seem to remember getting a warning when I would import photos that had already been imported. It went something like, "This photo is similar to one that already exists" or something to that effect. However, this evening I accidentally imported several identical photos, and am not being warned about it. Was there a change in an update that removed this little warning? Lame as it may sound, I kind of appreciate having that let me know. Otherwise, there sits multiple identical images in the library. I checked in Prefs. and didn't find much that would be helpful in this situation. I am using 5.04

Hi Peevy,
iPhoto 5 still gives that warning. Quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto Pref file to the desktop. Launch iPhoto and try to import a duplicate and see if you get the message back.

iPhoto will not open with pictures when I click on the icon.  It does show that it is open on top toolbar. What happened to my photos?

Did you run any updaters recently, i.e. like just before this happened?  Try this first fix: make a duplicate copy of the library and try the following:
1 - delete  the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file,, Cache.dbt, that is located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences..

Nothing.  They remain exactly where they are.

  • What happened to my photos after upgrading to IOS 8

What happened to my photos after upgrading to IOS 8.0.2? How do I recover them?j

    Hi arnpa,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you've updated your iOS device to iOS 8, the photos should still be on the device. The photos will be organized differently than they were previously, though.
In iOS 8, the Photos app organizes photos by date instead of by device or photo source. Here are some questions you might have about Photos after updating to iOS 8.
Where can I find the Camera Roll?
The Photos app in iOS 8 doesn't separate photos and videos based on how they were added to your device. Instead of a Camera Roll, your photos and videos (even ones that you didn't take with or save to your device) are organized by date in Photos.
When you open the Photos app and tap the Photos tab, you'll see your photos and videos listed by Moments, Collections, and Years. Tap Moments to see individual photos organized by date and location, tap Collections to zoom out to a more condensed view, and then tap Years to zoom out even more. Tap a collection or year to zoom back in.
And you'll now have a Recently Added album, which shows the photos and videos added to your device in the last 30 days, organized by date. To see your Recently Added album, tap Albums > Recently Added.
Where can I find the My Photo Stream album?
In iOS 8, there's no longer a separate My Photo Stream album. Instead, photos that were in the My Photo Stream album are now in the Recently Added album.
If you were using iPhoto for iOS, make sure that you migrated your photos.

If the photos are no longer on your device, and you backed up to iCloud or iTunes, you may need to restore from a backup:

  • What happens to my photos if i delete my icloud backup?

what happens to my photos if i delete my icloud backup?

Nothing.  Deleting the backup only deletes the backup.  It doesn't delete anything else from iCloud or from your devices/computers.

  • HT6378 What happened to my photo stream photos?

Only my photos from the camera roll saved to 'all photos.' I lost over 700 photos that were in my photo stream. What happened to them?

    Hello 75river,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you are not seeing the option for My Photo Stream on your iPad, then I'd like you to please ensure your iCloud settings are configured correctly.  Go to Settings > iCloud and tap on Photos.  There is the option to enable or disable Photo Stream.  Another reason why the My Photo Stream album could be missing is that you have enabled the iCloud Photo Library.

  • What happens to Hidden Photos from Elements

If upgrading from PSE9 to LR3.3, what will happen to all the photos that are hidden? Does LR support hidden photos?

Actually, I just went through this exercise with PSE10 and LR5 (converting my PSE10 catalog).  Your hidden photos from PSE will import into LR5 but they will show up flagged as REJECTED.  So just be aware that they are in your LR5 catalog but they are flagged as being rejected.  This is important to know so you don't accidentally delete all your hidden photos because they were flagged as rejected.  I wish LR had the Hidden Photo attribute, it's just a nice way to keep your images in one catalog, but not be bogged down with photos that you rarely need access to.  In some ways, I like the PSE Catalog Organizer better than the LR5 Organizer. There are some PSE features that don't exist in LR for whatever reason.
The other thing to be aware of is that NONE of my offline photos from PSE imported into LR during the catalog conversion, so if you have any of those in your PSE catalog (photos that you have archived to removeable media like CD, DVD, or USB thumb drives) they need to be imported separtely into LR.  It seems like Adobe (as usual) didn't really think through this process all the way.   My experience with Adobe software is that it's really cool when it works which is most of the time, but start to do anything out of the 80/20 rule and things start to get a little dicey. I would never say that it's rock-solid.  Their approach seems to be that if you want to get all the bug fixes, you have to pay to upgrade to the next version (and inherit a whole new set of bugs).      .

  • What happened to my photo's in my album?

I put them in an album used them in a project now half my project pics missing but do show in close up of page and nothing in the album now.

    its Iphoto 11 vs. 9.5 (902.7)
My end goal is to make a calendar for my mother of the grandkids.  I had my brothers fwd me photo's which I have on my desk top.  I opened a new album, dragged the photo's from my brothers pics into the album. and my photo's.  Then I made the calendar project.
I worked on it for awhile then took a break, when I came back my calendar was missing photo's but when I zoom in on the specific page the photo's show.
The album says there is no photos in the album. but when I went to drag them back in the album it warned me they were duplicates. yet the album says it has nothing in it.
The calendar can't complete as it says its incomplete.
Not sure what has gone wrong.

  • What happen to the Photo library when I choose Reset all Settings on my Ipad?

I just wanna know what will happen to all of my photos if I choose Reset all Settings on the Ipad 2

    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
Reset All Settings does not delete anything, all it does is take most of the iPad's settings back to default (with the exception of accounts setting, and maybe a couple other things.) It is perfectly safe.
The only inconvenience is that you have to go back through almost all your settings and set them to your preference.

  • What happened to the photos?

I uploaded photos from my digital camera to iPhoto ('o8). For some reasons that I can't understand, 5 of the photos have 0 KB but are still visible on iPhoto. I tried to make a slideshow, all showed except these 5 which produced a black space. Why?

Thanks Terence. Was it something that  I did that corrupted the photos? I'm trying new things with my camera and want to make a book of my photos. I don't want this to happen again...the photos were awesome. I did adjust the colours on iPhoto and then clicked  option at the bottom, i.e. replace or copy..not being familiar with any of that stuff. Perhaps that's what damaged the photos?

  • What happens to iCloud photo library photos if I get rid of my device?

I am a user of icloud Photo Library Beta. Recently I've upgraded my iPhone 5 to an iPhone 6. My photos from my iPhone 5 are all stored in iCloud photo library , and inherently accessible on my iPhone 6.
I am considering selling my iPhone 5 to a friend. I need to know if I restore the device to factory default before selling it... deleting all of the photos stored on the device. Will I also see those photos removed from iCloud photo library? And inherently my iPhone 6? Or will these photos taken from my iPhone 5 remain in the cloud, and remain accessible for full quality download on my iPhone 6?
Or will I be forced to manually download or import all the photos from my iPhone 5 before selling the device?

You do not need help.  That is exactly what it should do.
Just as a book is on the Public Library and also in the fiction section, a pic is in your individual albums and the same photos can be accessed from the Photo Library.
You will always have the Photo Library.  You can access ALL of your synced pics from this folder/album.  Those exact same photos can also be accessed from the folders/albums that you sync to iphone.  This is how the iphone handles photos.  There are not two copies of the photos.

  • What happen to my photos app

    My Photo app has disappeared

Default apps are part of the iOS and cannot be deleted.  Search all home screens and all folders and/or search for it with Spotlight, that will tell you what folder it's in.
Also check Settings > General > Restrictions to see if it has been restricted.
If not found, Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout.

  • I used my icloud to restore everything on my new iphone 5s, but it only shows some of the photos and when I click on those that are showing it says "Loading".  What happened to my photos?  How can I restore them on my new iphone?

I upgraded from a 4s to a 5s.  I backed up my icloud and in the Apple store they helped me transfer.  I didn't wait in the store for all my information to download and when I got home later that night the apps all downloaded and were good.  I didn't check the photos and videos though.  I think I may have stopped the icloud retoration and maybe that is why not all my photos are on my new iphone.  Now in the camera roll it shows slots for photos, but they are not there.  When I tap on the photo,  it just shows "Loading" and is working, but the photo doesn't appear.  Any assistance would be helpful

Basics from the manual are restart, reset, restore.

  • What happened to my photos?

    Hi everyone!
Ok. I recently got an Iphone 4S. I went to Brazil with my Iphone and there I try to sync it to an Itunes so I could use it with a local service provider by changing a sim card or chip as we know Brazil. I coul not complet the process because it gave me an error message. However, since the device was with me, I started to use it as my camera and took some photos that really mean something to me.
Early today, Wednesday 22, I conected my device to a PC and an Itunes open asking me if I want to sync at the same time a PC windown opened giving me some options like download photos, view photos; things like that.... I did open a file to see the photos. I opened DCIM and there was two sub-files: 823WGTMA and 860OKMZO. I saw all the pics close the files and opened Itunes again and sync, save a backup, restore and everything.
After that the first file (823WGTMA) desapeared!!! It was full of photos! I went crazy and start to research ways to restore it. After a lot of reading one guy suggested that I should reset the device and all the photos could come back but it was a risk that also could delete forever my apps. I made a decision, my pics were much more important to me than my apps. I did that but only a few came back in the second file.
I also reserched in my PC, looking to the photos. But I only find an empty file 823WGTMA located at Computer\Apple iPhone\Internal Storage\DCIM\823WGTMA.
I am so fckng sad!!! Those pics really mean something to me and my whole family!
There is any way to recovery it?
    Thanks for your help!
