  • What happened to iPhoto network sharing?

Since upgrade to Mavericks, I cannot see how I share photos across my home network.  I do not want to have to upload to icloud as this will take much longer.  What happened to the home network sharing option?

    Two things:
    1. Great Find:
Apparently everyone ignores the option of home sharing the iPhoto library using iTunes
    2. On the other hand:
I simply put it on my Qnap NAS
you might want to read this and reconsider:
iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, exporting, saving edits and sharing the photos.

“Additionally, storing the iPhoto library on a network rather than locally on your computer can also lead to poor performance or data loss.”

  • HT204486 What happens to iPhoto libraries on different Macs when using Photos

I have photo libraries in different Macs and have switched on iCloud to work with Photos on my macbook pro. Do these libraries on my other Macs get merged with the one in the Cloud regardless of duplication of photos ?

thanks Leonie. I had the same impression: I started to connect a second computer to the photo library in iCloud, which I quickly stopped. I nevertheless ended up with 400 additional photos in the iCloud library.
In that case it may be better to remove the other libraries before connecting other Macs. Presumably you have to make a new, empty, library and designate that the system library.

  • What happened to iphoto, garageband, imovie, etc.?

I installed leopard onto my laptop and when it was installed, I no longer had ilife on my computer. Do I need to re-buy it? Keep in mind that I bought this laptop with tiger already on it with ilife on it.

Sounds like you did a Clean Install (i.e. erased your HD). The Leopard installer does not install iLife. You'll need to reinstall those apps.

  • What version of iphoto was in iLife version packages?

Looking purchase iLife '08 or '09 to upgrade current iPhoto 6.0.6 but I can't find information about versions in those packages.  I missed it first time around;  having just upgraded OS from Tiger to Snow Leopard, without adding additional memory cards I understand Lion probably won't be compatible to my system.  iPhoto is not happy and constantly stalling and quitting.  I looked at iLife'11 but specs require min 10.7...  Any ideas for me?  I found iLife software for sale but don't know which is what I would need, or if what I want is even possible.  What happened to iPhoto v7?
    THank you,

Thank you Terence Devlin in iPhoto:   I burned some disks a few weeks ago upgrading OS from Tiger to Snow Leopard, but don't know if everything is on them and it would take me a long to time to figure that out.  [This part is new for me... obviously.   I'm a few years behind having been ill and am trying to catch up and unable to purchase newer equipment.]
I was concerned that "message" was warning me about something going wrong ...
I didn't find iLife'08 only iLife'09 so I went for it;  so I'm going from 6.0.6 passing version 7.  Is that done? or do they need to be sequential?  You did say 8 OR 9...
I was only referring to the software that the HP has called Photosmart Studio, much like iPhoto.  Wasn't referring to "Printer/Scanner as a backup", only the Software that came with it that has editing capabilities, just not all my iphoto library is  in there.  That's what I meant as a backup, much like uploading to Shutterfly, or Snapfish.
    Thanks, Please continue to advise.

  • When using Iphoto to import photo from existing folder, what happens if I delete the photo in Iphoto ? Will the original file in the folder be deleted too?

When using Iphoto to import photo from existing folder to iphoto, what happens if:
    1. I delete that photo in iphoto? will the original file in the folder be deleted too ?
    2.  when importing, does the hard disk store 2 versions of the photo, hence occupying additional space in the harddisk?

1 - no  --  iPhoto only manages fiel within the iPhoto library - it does not ever do anything with files outside the library
2 - No idea what you are asking - by default (and strongly recommended) iPhoto copies the original to the iPhoto library and you delete the source file outside the iPhoto library - iPhoto alwasy has at least two versions of every photo and some times three - it always have the original, a thumbnail and once a photo is modified a preview - this is not optional - if it is not what you want then iPhoto is not the correct progrtam to be using for phopto management

When I open iPhoto it asks me to choose a photo library.  I already have a libary with photos and events in it that I've been using for 2 years.  Where did it go?  What happened to all my photos

We have no way of knowing what goes on on your machine. All we can tell is that your iPhoto library is missing and iPhoto can't find it. If you can't find then I the only thing you can do is restore from your Back Up.

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion, all my pictures are gone from iPhoto.  What happened?

This is very upsetting.  ALL my pictures are gone from iPhoto.  What happened, and how can I get them back?

Look in your user folder/Pictures. Is the Library there?
    Try rebuilding the library.

iPhoto will not open with pictures when I click on the icon.  It does show that it is open on top toolbar. What happened to my photos?

Did you run any updaters recently, i.e. like just before this happened?  Try this first fix: make a duplicate copy of the library and try the following:
1 - delete  the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file,, Cache.dbt, that is located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences..

  • IPhoto "Unexpectedly Quit". When I went back in, about the past month's worth of uploaded photos was missing. What happened, and how can I retrieve them?

IPhoto was open, but "unexpectedly quit".  When I opened it again a couple days later, my most recent photo uploads (for the past month or so) were missing, with dated Events folders saying "no photos". This had happened another time about a year ago? What happened, and how do I retrieve my photos?  I hadn't backed them up, but do they automatically do so on iCloud?

Assuming you're running iPhoto 9 or later do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • 2500 images flowed into iPhoto that aren't mine! What happened?  Whose are they?! Do I have to go through

When I opened iPhoto about 2500 images imported that are not mine.  What happened?  Whose are they?  How do I get rid of them?

We live in a rural area and have a small business.  No one has access to my computer except me.  My husband doesn't use it -- ever -- so no one else has connected a device unless some mysterious remote visitor obtained access.  The pictures are labeled "Resources" and "theme-files".  They are not of people but a lot of flat squares of color.  They are dated from early 2000's (around 2003) until the present.  When I opened iPhoto, the number of pictures I have went from over 7500 to over 10,000 lickety split.  I clicked "stop import" but nothing doing -- it said I had to wait until the download was complete.  So there they are -- lots and lots of squares of color and shape type imagery.  Is there a way to find a "location" on the map of where they came from?  Also, I quite recently did a cleaning with MacKeeper and it came up with nothing malicious there.

So what I have gleemed from this thread - is that Apple will not help me if an iPad mini is dropped and the screen breaks.  I would have lived without the insurance if I could have simply bought a new screen and then had it replaced by Apple.
On something so fragile I would have expected a piece of glass to be a replacement part. But I am glad I made this post because now I no for sure if I break the screen there is no way to have it fixed by Apple and keep it in Warranty.
Yup, kind of like anything else you accidentally break that is more cost effective to replace than to repair. Keep that iPad away from the toddler

  • HT1229 What happens to photos in an album in iPhoto on Mac when upgrading to Yosemite.

What happens to all the photos in iPhoto when upgrading to Yosemite.  My pictures are in an album to be made into a photobook with Shutterfly  or another service but it is not entirely ready to go. I would not want to loose this album, took me a long time to gather all these pictures (over 200) , edit them and write captions. I understand that Yosemite will eliminate iPhoto.  However, I want to know if they will delete iPhoto even if I do not upgrade as yet.

    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store
