What happened to library menu (e.g., golden oldies)?

hi. i just updated my apple software this evening. i love the changes. that said, i'm not able to find, in iTunes 12.0.1.26, my library where i had the option to see different music genres (golden oldies, etc.). i'm missing my all elvis presley stream....please help.....i'm freaking out without my elvis! is this option now gone? thanks! :-)

Thanks. The menu disappeared on upgrade, my error no doubt. Since I did not hide it I thought it was magic! With over 48K problems, it may need a re-design of FF

Yes, they made it able to start a "private Window"...
But does it WORK?
I noticed that in v20, Firefox send cookies that were set before the "private Window" was opened.
This means NO PRIVACY !!!
A site you visit in your "New Private Window" will ID you by the cookies it has set in the past.
Privacy is gone... bye bye ...
Of course one can manually delete the cookies for a certain domain.... but why would i want to go through all this work...
I hope it's fixed.
And if it's not fixed.. it will be bye bye Firefox ... terrible choice.

What happens to library when uninstalling iTunes? Please!!

Silly question, I know...
But as I'm experiencing the same problem as everyone else after updating to I Tunes 6 (computer crash + ipod not recognized by itunes), I want to uninstall and reinstall it...
So, what happens to all my music files after I uninstall itunes?? Will they still be there after reinstall or lost forever??

I always wondered if my music would be gone if I uninstalled iTunes. It does not erase you're music.
This might not be exactly the same problem but lots of people (myself included) had problems after installing iTunes 6.0. I did the following and it finally installed correctly.
I went to

and downloaded the Cleanup utility near the bottom of that page. When it installs on your machine it will scan your computer for every installer every ran on you're machine. Only select iTunes and Qtime and delete those 2 installers. Then I went to add/remove programs and removed iTunes and Qtime. Prior to this Qtime would not unistall but now it did. Funny thing was there was no prompting by windows once I hit "remove/repair" in the "add/remove programs" function.
Then rerun the iTunes 6.0.1 update. That had been failing to install Qtime prior to this but now it installed and I see all my music again and iTunes works. Let me know if this does the trick, I hope so.

What happened to the menu?

Hi everybody
I am not sure what I did wrong, but I burned a imported 60 photo slideshow from iphoto to iDVD, choose a travel theme from the iDVD menu, dropped in the photos, etc, set the DVD to loop, but the burned DVD when inserted just started right up with the slideshow, no "Travel Theme" opening menu.
Any ideas?

Is it possible you dragged a QT file into autoplay while in map view? That would cause it to play on its own once the DVD is inserted to the DVD Player.

Help! What happened to my menu bar?

My old imac has been getting sluggish. Today I turned it on and all the right hand side items on my menu bar are gone, including the clock, airport settings, volume, all of it *pffft*.
I immediately hit restart, no changes but it was very sloooow. Shut down, walked away to think about it, couldn't come up with anything. Started it up again and I still have nothing on the right side of the menu. Everything still works okay but no items on right side of menu except the Spotlight.

What Happened to the Menu Play Buttons

I created a DVD using iDVD and saved it as a disk image. I opened Toast and dropped the AUDIO_TS and the VIDEO_TS files into the "Data" window. I also dropped all of the raw assets that I used to make the DVD into the window so they would be on the DVD for use someone elses computer.
The resulting DVD worked fine once it was burned to the disk on my computer, but when I tried to play it on our TV the individual movie selections do not respond.

I know it is complicated and it is my fault, sorry. I have a Mac G5 running system 10.4.7. I am using iLife 6.0.2 and Toast 6.0. I have been using iLife for a couple of years and have made many short DVDs using iDVD with no problems. I read an artical in the July, 2005 issue of Macworld on page 78 titled "Prevent DVD Disasters". It tells how to make several DVDs using the disk image method. It also says that you can put the raw images on the disk. I did not try to use disk utility as they suggested. I wanted to use Toast as they also explained. I have made three attempts and each has failed to work properly. Since the movies that I made in iMovie were so short the movies and the raw data fits on the DVD with no problem.
I created two movies and an intrduction. I work with teenagers in our church. About a dozen of us camped out in the woods behind our house, played paintball and went swimming. I took all of the pictures with a Canon camera. The introduction is 1minute and 14 seconds, consisting of movie clips and still shots. The first movie that I made was combining 8 video clips that I made using iMovie, the movie is less than 3 minutes long. The second movie consists of one video clip that runs for 33 seconds and 24 still pictures, this movie runs for less than 5 minutes.
Here is what I am trying to do, one include the raw data and make 6 copies of the DVD with out having to make them with iDVD one at a time. I know that if I use iDVD and make them one at a time it takes much longer than making them from a disk copy. I know it would not be much trouble with this short DVD, but I would like to learn so I could make longer DVDs and save time.

What happened to holding menu for the backlight?

Does anyone know if there is a way to turn on the backlight without having to go to the main menu or settings?
On my old iPod mini i could hold hold on menu for a few seconds to turn on the backlight, but that function apears to not be on the 5G iPod video.

i don't know if anyone else has noticed or not, but when i bought my ipod it had a plastic cover on it that said, on the back, "ON Press center, OFF Press and hold Play, BACKLIGHT Press and hold menu, etc.". now, why would they put that on there if it doesn't even work?!! this annoys me a great deal! i had the ipod photo for over a year before i bought the ipod video and i've gotten use to using the menu button to turn on the backlight. any ideas if this will be fixed?

What happened to Library temperature/tint controls?

In LR4, I was quite attached to the easy-to-use temperature and tint controls in the Library module. Now, in LR 5, those seem to be gone and I find the sliders in the Develop module much less handy. Is there some way to get the other controls back?

What happened to Library names?

I've just installed iPhoto 7.1 and so far everything's working (knock wood) except when I open a library, the name of the library is no longer at the top of the page as it was before. I use iPhoto Library Manager. I tried iPhoto Buddy as well, no luck. I have several libraries and it's a bother not to see the name of the library when I open iPhoto.
Any suggestions?

That was a feature of iPhoto Library Manager. Contact the developer to see when that feature will be fixed.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

By being gone do you mean the library is not in your Pictures folder or when you open the library you don't see any photos or thumbnails? If it's the latter apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Even though tv is a remote network device, it shows up in iTunes just like a locally connected iPod or iPhone.
From the iTunes library (of the computer hosting your media) the summary page displays a message that iTunes will sync to the tv in the order: movies, then tv shows, then music, then podcasts, then photos.
It will copy as much as it can fit. OR you can go to each of the tabs (in iTunes after having selected the tv device) and pick which movies, music, photos, etc. that you'd like to copy.
As an alternative, on the tv itself, there's a 'Source' menu. In addition to the content locally sync'd into the tv, it'll also display any iTunes library on your network, but the computer must be running iTunes and iTunes must have sharing enabled.
If the tv is connected via a fairly fast network then live streaming from another computer is no problem. It will "work" with 802.11g wireless - but I noticed back when I used to run it this way that if I told iTunes to 'sync' to the tv it would take a very very long time to complete. So long, in fact, that I used to just do this over-night while I sleep. I think that it suspends syncing if I play a movie (at least if it isn't suspended, it's making such slow progress that I can't notice it). BUT... the tv does support both 802.11n wireless as well as 1000baseT (gigabit) wired networking. If you connect via either of these methods (esp. the gigabit wired), a full-sync will take mere minutes to do your whole hard-drive. It's amazingly fast. So streaming movies from another computer (instead of copying them locally into the tv) is no problem at all.

Hi Sarah,
It sounds like the songs have either not yet synced over to the iPhone, or something went wrong when attempting to sync to the iPhone. My recommendation is to uncheck the "Sync Music" checkbox.
Once you have done that, recheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes once more. This will instruct iTunes to completely remove all music from your iPhone, and then copy the files once more. If you have a large amount of music, this initial sync may take a while.

We have no way of knowing what goes on on your machine. All we can tell is that your iPhoto library is missing and iPhoto can't find it. If you can't find then I the only thing you can do is restore from your Back Up.

What happens when an iPod is synchronized with an iTunes library that is bigger than the available space on the iPod? I did this some time ago. On screen was shown available space somewhat less than 120 GB, but maybe somewhere between 10 and 20 GB more in the library. I had to get the iPod updated anyway, so I did proceed. However, afterwards the total content of the library was only about 110 GB. Now I wonder what did actually happen. Was the first sign only corrected for double copies of the same files or lost files or where files deleted from iTunes? And if files where deleted from iTunes, were they also deleted from my computer?

Same as you would if you bought a pc; copy everything from your old computer to your new one. Then you can just sync everything from the new computer, as you did with the old one.
