What happened to Michael Kaplan's blog?

What happened to Michael Kaplan's blog, Sorting It All Out?  All links to his blog posts seem to be dead, ending up with a Resource Not Found error page at blogs.msdn.com.  (http://blogs.msdn.com/msgs/?messageid=6)
This is true even when using links from Bing searches inside or outside MSDN.  (One assumes that internal MSDN searches are being handled by Bing, but maybe not.)  The content seems to exist as search results with text snippets I am looking for comes
up.  Clicking on any of these links, however, winds up at the same dead end.
This problem also exists from numerous other ways to get to this blog from Microsoft sites.
What happened to this blog?  The information Michael wrote about is still useful.

There is additional informaton on the blog death here though the question of why is not addressed.
Sheng’s link will eventually lead you there, so thanks!
Microsoft is being terribly short-sighted.  I always thought Michael was being very pro-MS even when he was critical.
No person or company is perfect, and Michael’s blog did much to humanize Microsoft IMO, both his positive and negative posts.
And relatively few of his voluminous posts could be construed as negative.
If MS is now going all Apple on us, that is just going to make people unhappy – with Microsoft.
Meantime, much of the old blog has been captured by the Internet Archive, as noted by Mike Laughlin above.
But it is difficult to find a given blog post that way as full text search on the archive is not currently possible.
So the data still exists, it is still relevant, but Microsoft has made it difficult to access by removing it from their servers.
Does Microsoft think people will love them for this?  Whatever Michael did to get himself banned, the damage Microsoft is doing to themselves with this boneheaded move is far worse.
Depending on the offense (what could be that bad?), I can see where Microsoft might tell Michael to stop blogging.
Remove the offending post if you must, but to remove the entire blog is just shooting themselves in the foot.
Finally, there is more than one helpful answer in this thread.
Is there a way to honor that by marking more than one reply as an answer?

  • New Data in R/3 Enterprise - ABAP Proxies - XI what happen?

    Hi,
    i have a theoretical question:
if i use R/3 Enterprise on WAS and put new Data in the R/3 System and transport them to XI with ABAP Proxies. What happens in the systems?
How do the R/3 System put new data in the proxy runtime and send them to xi?
I want to unterstand how the transport from new data in a R/3 System with ABAP Proxies comes to the XI Integration Server.

    Hi Marcel,
    >>>>>How do the R/3 System put new data in the proxy runtime and send them to xi?
all you need to do in r3 is to fill tables of a generated structure
and execute one method of a generated class (send....)
then R3 will connect over HTTP to XI and send the data from your structures
structures and class in R3 is being generated automatically via TCODE SPROXY

  • What happens to us?

I would call myself an avid amateur.  I use Lightroom about 90% of the time and Photoshop the other 10%. I shoot mostly for my blog and for my friends and family. I do my own printing.
Where do I and people like me go in the new lineup? It seems our only option is to pay a humongous fee monthly for services we will never use. Other matters are also not clear. For example, how will we be able to process pictures in Lightroom on Safari when there is no Wi-Fi? For that matter, how will you be able to access our pictures without Wi-Fi?  There is also the question of price; what happens after the initial discount expires and Adobe now holds all our photos and processing programs?
It seems to me from the way you are marketing the cloud you are purposefully ignoring "intermediate users" in favor of outright professionals. This despite the fact that we have been loyal to Adobe for many years.
    When I missing?

We hear you (and many others in the same boat). See this blog post (made yesterday) which specifically notes your concern and which states:
"For photographers, we are looking at potential offerings that recognize the photography community – because it is so broad – has some unique needs."

  • What happens to iweb-built site when I upgrade from Leopard (10.5.8) to Snow Leopard (10.6.3), and subsequently upgrade to 10.6.8 or even 10.7? Will fonts stay the same? Will layout change? Or anything else change? Thanks

What happens to iweb-build site when I upgrade from Leopard (10.5.8) to Snow Leopard (10.6.3) and subsequently update that to 10.6.8 or even to 10.7? Evidently iweb has been discontinued. I have version 3.0.3 of iweb now but understand that there's been an update for OS 10.6 so same question goes for this update.
Will fonts change? Will layout change? Will widgets still work? Links? Will Google Analytics PlugIn still work?
(Since MobileMe is disappearing, I now save iweb site to local folder on my computer, then upload it to GoDaddy using Cyberduck. I run Google Analytics plug in on folder before its uploaded.)
My computer, MacBook Pro came with iweb, which has been updated to 3.0.3. Since iweb is discontinued, will upgrade of operating system just ignore iweb so that iweb will run the same as before? Or will it wipe it out? Or change how it currently works (questions above).
    Thanks

As you now know iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
Currently if the site is published directly from iWeb to the 3rd party server the RSS feed and slideshow subscription features will work. However, if the site is first published to a folder on the hard drive and then uploaded to the sever with a 3rd party FTP client those two features will be broken.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: iW14 - Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
NOTE: the iLife 11 boxed version Is no longer available at the online Apple Store.  To get a copy you'll have to try Amazon.com or eBay.com.

  • What happens when the multiply effect is applied to both the object and the graphic within?

    Hi everyone,
I could really use some help with this...
I'm getting a booklet ready to be printed. Originally, half of the pages were to be printed on paper with a (physical) colour. For budget reasons however, I've now decided to print the paper colour, and have the content of the pages overprinted on the tint in the background, which I've applied to the pages in the background of an additional master page.
When I set the objects to multiply, they blend with the background colour, which is the effect I'm looking for, as there would be no 'paper white' on the pages that I want to appear as though printed on coloured paper.
There's something confusing me though; you can also set the graphic within the object frame to multiply. This makes the graphic appear darker, which I don't really understand, since there is no extra colour within the graphic that accounts for this. I've looked at the output in the resulting pdf, and it looks like it's not just an on-screen effect, but the extra amount of (in this case) yellow would also be visible in the printed result.
Does anyone have an explanation for this? Please see the graphic for a visual example.
    Thanks in advance, kind regards
    Robbin

    Hi.
Yes. There is a heartbeat mechanism between all cluster members so they detect when a
member has left the cluster. The primary server recognizes when it's secondary server
has failed, and then proceeds to search for another member of the cluster to make as
              it's new secondary.

to add to this, if you are using EOIO you will have to restart the first message in the queue before others so that the processing can continue.
In short, either EO or EOIO, the messages will be persisted in PI. you can always manually resend them.

  • What happen to julius thread in ABAP DEVELOPMENT?

It was reformatted by the new 5000 characters per post limit
I am busy working on a solution to split them and move each part to its own respecting sub-development forum - but have not got to it yet. Sorry for being slow.
The FAQ and memorable discussions thread in the Security Forum is affected as well, but there is only one forum... :-((
Any creating ideas on how to fix that one (other than removing information from it)?
    Cheers,
    Julius

Actually it is happening since couple of week. Might be you have found yourself in this situation now.
Also there are two thread already open on the same. Perhaps you missed them.
    Improper display of threads
And outstandingly "what happen to julius thread in ABAP DEVELOPMENT?" Nice Subject Line
Perhaps, It looks [Line of the day|Re: Line of the day!] !!
P.S. Subject tempered (Or Perhaps corrected)....;-)
    Anyways,
@ Julius: Since there is 5000 Characters Limit has been introduced for keeping the forum neat, undersized and informative as much as possible rather than long bulky programs.
But My Question is What about the Programs and Threads which had already been posted in last 5-6 Years of SDN(now SCN)?
I can see all the previous threads also have been affected!
So Does SAP having any Programmer In their team of Michael Goeck or David Branan(Who is working from behind the scene ) to introduced the restriction of 5K chars based on Date?!?

  • What happens if I don't approve Update to CRM 2015 Online

    Hi there
Can anyone help me with this simple question?
What happens if I don't approve the automatic Upgrade to CRM 2015 Online?
Blogs tell me, that the Org is not being updated. That's ok, but what are my options afterwards?
Let's say I let the automatic Update pass by not approving it and in 10 month I would still like to get the upgrade. Can I still get an automatic upgrade at a later  point of time?
    Thanks for your help.
I posted the same question here: https://community.dynamics.com/crm/f/117/t/152185.aspx
    but received no reasonable feedback.

    Hi Tobi,
I don't know what you mean for "reasonable feedback", but as I wrote in the other post, at a certain post you will not able to delay the upgrade and your instance will be updated automatically to CRM 2015. And as the other user wrote, the deadline
is end of June of this year.

  • What happened to contact sheet?

I have just upgraded to CS4 from CS... what happened to Contact Sheet? As in File>Automate>Contact Sheet? I don't seem to have this in my menu when I go to File>Automate... or, is there a new way to make a contact sheet that has changed from CS-CS4?

If you are anything like me, you will be dismayed by the prospect of making contact sheets in the Bridge PDF output module, instead of file/automate/contact sheet.
I would just encourage you to persist a bit with the output module. I did and wouldn't go back now. Headers, footers, page numbers etc save me a lot of time, and it is much quicker.

  • What happened to my T61 display?

I have a wide-screen model T61. Recently I traveled with it. I carry it in a soft "Lands End" bag.
When I arrived at my destination I discovered a strange pattern on the display. Starting near the center are two roughly circular areas. One is approx. 1 inch in diameter; the other 1.5 inches. The second one is to the right and slightly below the first. After booting my TP, these two areas are black. Extending from them vertically and horizontally (to the right) are many straight multi-colored lines. Nothing on the display is readable in this area. Only the left 40% of the screen is readable; If I guess correctly, I can drag windows over to the left side to read them. I subsequently discovered that, when the TP is turned off, the two roughly circular areas remain faintly visible on the black screen.
Do you have a theory of what happened and what I should do about it?
    Thank you.

One method would be to host your picture(s) externally on a site like Flikr and provide a link to the picture in your post.

  • What happened to faenza/faiance?

Well it's been over a year since the talented Matthieu James launched faenza icons 1.3.1. I wrote him an e-mail pointing out several symlinks needed for a few updated packages but got no response. What happened? I heard he was hired by Canonical to design a new icon theme for Ubuntu so... does that mean this is the end?

Yes it looks like he doesn't maintain these icons anymore. That's to bad. Also his GTK3/Gnome Shell theme was very nice. It's was the only GTK Theme that didn't look odd in some scenarios.

I always wanted to try and fix this myself but I never had time and I have no experience with GTK theming and what changed from his version to the latest version.
