What happened to my iDVD on Lion upgrade?

I'm uncertain if iDVD was corrupted or nuetered when upgrading to Lion or Mountain Lion, but it is no longer able to burn a standard DVD+R as it once did. It appears to be working, howerever it ejects the disc with one minute remaining. It will not open in iMovie (unsupported) showing 8 sec's in length and does not play on a multi format DVD player conneted to my TV. The disc does have the shading of being burned on the bottom side. I see a number of issues people have written about, some claiming Apple basically missed the boat or abandoned iDVD altogether (oversight or arrogance). The only informaion I have not found is how to correct it. Can this be corrected (i.e., Mavericks..?) or do I need to buy another program and forget it?
[Note, I changed my operating system to show 10.8.5 (below) 4 times, and it still appears as 10.5.8...]

It could be an encoding problem or a burning problem Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

There's no reason it should stop working. You may find yourself in a position where apps you want to run start requiring iOS 6. Be careful when updating apps to read the fine print on them before you do so.

We could create a proxy in vb.net and call our SAP web services like this:

After upgrading to nw ep 7.1, which looks like this.

We no longer get the same input and ouput classes generated for us when consuming the service. It looks like it is now expected to be called like a function    ws.ZGetuname( param 1, param 2).

You mean, the filename with the number on the card?
Photos does not use the filenames as a title, when displaying the thumbnails. The filename will only show in the Info panel.
Copy the filenames to the title field in the Info panel and then enable "Metadata" in the View menu.

What happens on a G5 if you upgrade to iCloud?

If I go to a newer mac and complete the conversion from MobileMe to iCloud what will happen on my older G5 power mac? If I do convert my account now will iDisk still work through the Mobile Me system preferences (I see online a note from Apple that they will continue the service for a limited time, but I am not clear if that is only if I do not upgrade)?
What are the disadvantages of upgrading now?

It is possible to upgrade using a non-Lion Mac - I did it this morning with Snow Leopard - you go to http://me.com/move and follow the instructions: when it asks you to confirm that your Mac has Lion you lie and say 'Yes".
However the only thing you will be able to do - probably, because I can't absolutely confirm this will work on a G5 - is enter the mail settings manually to access your Mail: you should also be able to do this at icloud.com as long as your browser isn't too ancient.
This would enable you to retain your email address, but your online bookmarks and contacts will disappear as they can't be transferred from your Mac: if you are syncing using the 'new' MobileMe calendar the calendars may be transferred, though I'm not sure - you won't be able to sync them with your G5 once they are on iCloud, so they won't update unless you do it manually.
They will disappear anyway next June, whatever you do (short of getting a new computer) when MobileMe is closed. Until then your iDisk will continue to work as normal, but you need to be thinking about how you are going to deal with this or you will lose data.

What happens to Win 7 if I upgrade to Mavericks

Even though it isn't supported I am running an early 2009 iMac with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. Took a lot of help from others and tips at other sites to get past Bootcamp 5's roadblock that wouldn't allow me to load the 64 bit version of Win 7 Pro. Bottom line it has been working fine and all is well. Since this is my first experience with Bootcamp and running Windows on a Mac, I've now wondered what will happen if I decide to upgrade with Mavericks? I'm not planning on any changes to the partition sizes for Bootcamp, so I'm curious as to whether I'm going to be stepping into unchartered territory. I'm sure others have made this step going from an older release of OSX, but since I'm running something that Apple says isn't supported, I'm assumming that they could make changes in what will probably become Bootcamp 6 and all **** will break loose.
FYI, I'm just running Win 7 for gaming purposes since my old Dell is on death's door. I brought over my Sims2, Railroad Tycoon, and just bought the new Sim City, all of which are running just fine.

In Messages Menu > Preferences chose the Accounts icon
In the list on the left all your iChat type accounts (Screen Names and IDs) should be listed below the iMessages one.
Click on each in turn and check the "Enable this Account" box is ticked
(You can also check the Messages Menu > Accounts to see which accounts are logged in)
From there the setting in the General Settings will either have them in one List (Shown by using CMD + 1 keys together) as as separate Buddy lists revealed by using CMD and a number (1 though however many accounts there are) as seen in the Window Menu.

There are two ways to start an "iChat" type Video Chat
1) The same way you did in iChat by:-
     a) Clicking on a Green Video icon in the Buddy List
     b) Clicking on a Buddy to highlight and using the icons at the bottom of the Buddy list
     c) Clicking on a Buddy to highlight and then using the Buddies menu > Invite to Video Chat
     d) Right Clicking on a Buddy and and using the menu that pops up
2) Choosing a Buddy from Buddies in the Blue Plus Icon in the Messages window (rather than Contacts for iMessages) then using the Video icon that replaces the Blue + icon.
Screen Sharing tends to need the Buddy List to be showing or Converting a Video chat as you might of done before.

Has Mavericks really improved on OS X Mountain Lion? i Photo is now in my opinion awful, can't create own borders on photos or include text on photos anymore when using for home printing. Is it possible to uninstall Mavericks and go back to Mountain Lion and futther more install an earlier version of i Photo like 3 months back?

you don’t have to run Mavericks unless you use a Late 2013 MacBook Pro, which you apparently don’t.
If you made a backup of your Mountain Lion setup before installing Mavericks, you can just restore it from your backup.
If you didn’t make a backup of your Mountain Lion setup, you can back up your Mavericks setup, overwrite your Mavericks setup with a reïnstallation of Mountain Lion, and then selectively restore from your Mavericks backup the items which you would like to have under Mountain Lion.

Got notification that a security update was ready. Not that the ui had changed. I don't want the ui changed to ugly icons and funky tabs. Who thought of this anyway. Is there a way to get the old look back? Thank you

To get it to all work i have to click on the house looking icom to get the homepage to load, right clik again to access the toolbars and left click on the bookmarks oolbars to remove it, the right again and left click again to have it appear. It appears that you upgraded your computer to Mountain Lion and were using Microsoft Office 2004. In the short term, if you need to open and modify Word files, go to the file in the Finder and Control-Click on it. A menu will come up: go to Open With... and select TextEdit. This should allow you to open, modify and save the file for the short term.
You can do the same trick to open Microsoft Excel files in Preview and print them; but I do not think you can modify them in this way.
Workarounds for Microsoft Office 2004 since upgrading to Mountain Lion:
1. Upgrade to Microsoft Office 2011. This version works in Mountain Lion. However some of your legacy 2004 files may convert badly.
2. Restore the version of OS X that you were using before Mountain Lion.
3. Partition your hard drive and/or attach an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard on it and use the 'dual-boot' method of booting into Mountain Lion when you need it and booting into Snow Leopard when you need to run your PowerPC applications such as Microsoft Office 2004.
4. The method I use, which allows me to run my PowerPC applications concurrently with Lion: I installed Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels 7 in Lion:
