What happened to my iMovie Projects in iMovie 10.0.6 (Yosemite)?

They are in my hrd drives but when I load them into the new iMovie they all appear in a clump under today's date, as though they are all one event. I hate this! How can I come to my machine and be productive with this mess?

Check your Applications Folder for a folder called iMovie 9.0.9. Inside you will find iMovie 11 (version 9). You can drag this to your dock and you are back in business with iMovie 11.
When you installed iMovie 10, you should have had the option to keep your iMovie 11 events intact. If so, you can still edit them.

The performance fixes is a biggy for me, though the other missing
stuff I use makes me have to use both versions for various things:
"but they seem to be committed to another release/version."
Well ... now that's the rub. I would actually welcome this intermediate version to play with (even with the cost of upgrading) if I could rely on it to be finalized into 6.0, full featured, without it taking as long as it has to Upgrade from AA3.0. I would say it was a VERY smart move to give us a preview of 6.0, if I felt in, say, six months they would provide us the fully functional update. But, HOW many years has it been. I felt screwed over while they played around with Sound Booth.
I was with you for a minute in most of what you said, until your credibility went down a couple notches with me on the statement trivializing midi functionality. I though that was a very clueless statement:
"but I have no need for a midi controller and if I want a drummer to keep perfect time I'll get a drum machine."
It does make some of your other statements suspect, tho I won't take it as far as therealdobro's "what's your stake" question.

  • When I go to save my unfinished imovie project, neither of the "imovie projects" or "imovie events" are visible where they should be. Why is this?

When I go to save my unfinished imovie project, neither of the "imovie projects" or "imovie events" are visible where they should be. Why is this?

The latest version (iMovie 10) doesn't have iMovie projects and iMovie events folders - these were for iMovie 9 and earlier.   In iMovie 10 Projects are in Events and Events are in Libraries.  When you quit iMovie the current status of your projects and events are automatically saved in the library so there is nothing to do.  The default location for libraries is in ~ / Movies folder but you can put them anywhere, such as on an external drive .  If you want to backup the library you can make a copy of it on a separate disk or memory stick using the Finder.

  • How do I copy an iMovie project from iMovie 11 to an SD card

How do I copy/export an iMovie project from iMovie 11 to an sd card on an iMac?

In iMovie, use SHARE/EXPORT MOVIE in the size that you want, and then specify a name and location that you can find, such as on your desktop.
Then, in the Finder, drag the movie you just made to the SD card.

  • What happened to all the Library and application support folders in Yosemite? How can I access them?

What happened to all the Library and application support folders in Yosemite? How can I access them?

    1. They’re still there, but hidden.
    2. Open your home folder, choose Show View Options from the Finder’s View menu, and check the box to show the library.

  • Import iOS iMovie projects into iMovie 10 on Macbook

Is it true that you can no longer import a iMovie project from a device such as an iPhone into iMovie on a Macbook using iMovie 10.0.6?

That is not true. You can use them all in one DVD. I have just created my first DVD which has a trailer, a movie with chapters and several different slide shows.
All you have to do is save each project to Media Browser. (Choose Share in toolbar). Open iDVD and choose your theme or no theme. On the right will be all your options such as audio, media photo's etc. Choose your various video's/projects etc and just drag and drop which ones you want to the page and they will automatically put themselves there with the given name of each video/project.

  • What happens if your DVD project is over 1 hour long

I know that to get the highest quality image on your DVD that your project should be 1 hour. What happens if your project is longer than that? let's say one hour ane 10 minutes for example. Will Encore still pop out a DVD only with lower quality images?

    Hi Terry.
Of course it won't, although I understand where your concerns come from - blame marketing speak for this!.
It's basically nonsense - Hollywood have been outputting films on DVD running well past the 1 hour mark for over a decade now.
What determines the final image quality on any DVD has much, much more going on than simple running time.
Initially, you should start with the highest quality assets available to you. A lot of the time, this will be SD Video - Standard Definition Video - at 720x480 pixels if in NTSC regions, or 720x576 in PAL regions. If it is higher than this, it is a form of High(er) Definition video. That would introduce our first variable, as high definition source material needs to be correctly scaled or reduced in resolution to SD.
Then it needs to be transcoded into a DVD compliant compressed data format called MPEG-2, standing for the Motion Picture Experts Group, although some wags would claim it really stads for "moving pictures by educated guesswork". There are many encoders out there, and some are frankly better than others at all settings, whilst others work well in some cases but not in others. It's a bit of a minefield. Encore's MainConcept encoder is pretty good.
Quality here depends on the available bitrate, which depends on running time divided by available disc space, with added complexity caused by quality of source, quality of encoder & rapidity of motion in the source.
Basically, the more action in the film (or explosions, fires - anything difficult to encode because of fast motion etc) the more bits that section will need so another trick is using VBR or CBR - Variable bitrate will use fewer bits when it can in order to use more when it has to. VBR will always vary the bitrate to maintain quality. CBR uses the same number of bits, regardless of content, and will only ever vary the quality or (in best case scenario) waste disc space.
If using Dolby Digital Audio, which is 0.192kbps for stereo, this leaves you with up to 9,500kbps for film.
A DVD9 has 65,000 avalable MegaBits for use (after subtracting an overhead) so a 3 hour film would run for 10,800 seconds.
Audio MegaBits used we cancalculate as it is a fixed bitrate, so 0.192 x 10,800 = 2073.6MegaBits.
    65,000 - 2073.6 = 62926.4 MegaBits remaining
This gives you a video bitrate of 62926.4/10800 = 5.83Mbps, or 5,830kbps for your video bitrate. That's almost 6Mbps, and a lot of hollywood come in at less than this. a 2-pass VBR would be your best fit, with the minimum at 2,000, the maximum at 6,000 and the target at 5,000 (Some encoders cheat here and set the maximum internaly to the spec limits - I do not recommend trying this in settings though).
A well-encoded film at an average bitrate of 5,000 kbps is not going to look terrible by any stretch although a lot does depend on those variables.
    Hope this helps

  • Can I import an ios imovie project to  imovie OS X version?

    Hi!
I try to import an existing project from my iMovie for iOS to iMovie OS X but is not possible... I  send the project (for iOS version) from my iPad Air to my iMac  but then when I try to open this project in iMovie (OS X version) is not possible. The same operation was possible with the previous iMovie (2011) but now...
I want to know if I´m making a mistake or is not possible with the new version of iMovie for OS X.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    JJ

I too would like to see this feature! It used to be available in older versions of iMovie but was removed during a recent upgrade. While the current iOS version can export the project, the new Mac version will not recognize it. Apple: please bring this back!!! For DSLR owners, this is a great way to do a rough cut in the field then finish at home.

  • What happened to the colorizing option in iMovie

I use to be able to use a color dial and alter the color of the video clips? I cant find such an option in the new version.
    TIA!

See iMovie help "Add effects & adjustments" - "Enhance a clip".  Cour adjustments are done with sliders rather than a wheeel but it works very well.  A new feature is the ability to match the color of one clip with another.

  • Transferring old version imovie projects to imovie 09

Does anyone know if I can transfer all of my old projects in older version of imovie to the 09 version? I think my version is 3 years old. Thanks

you can import raw footage through file import movies and bring in the original .dv files or .mov files, but i don't think you can bring in the project.
You can bring in projects for IM6 but only cross dissolves and edits.

  • Importing projects into iMovie '11

    Hi.
I've been trying the last couple of days to get my old projects, wich i made on my iMac in iMovie '08, inro iMovie '11 on my MacBook Pro.
I've tried to use the "Import iMovie HD-Project" function, but i can't mark the files. I've tried to jut open the old projects, but then iMovie just opens up the one i was editing last time, and I've tried to drag the old ones into iMovie while this was open.
NOTHING works. I've been searching all over this forum and others, but non of the answers i could find helped me out.
I therefor hope that some of you can help me out on this one.
PS. All my procejts have the endning .rcproject, and not .iMovieProject. I tried to change this on one of the old ones, and then it just created a folder instead, wich i could put into iMovie as a project, but EMPTY! So i would have to start from scratch.
    Best Regards
    Kaiser Carante

That was actually what i did on my very first try, because that's almost always the sulution when copying files around like this, but it didn't seemed to help.
i copied iMovie projects/ folder, iMovie events/ folder and the iMovie original movies/ folder into the original movies/ folder on my MacBook.
After i did that, i got the events but no projects.
So i started a new project, just to see what happend, at it automaticaly created a new folder "iMovie projects" which was EXACTLY the same as the one i copied into movies/.
Then i tried copying the projects from "my own" movies/iMovie Projects folder, to the identical one which iMovie created itself. Still nothing happens.
I might have made som minor mistakes, but nothing i can point out myself.
And also... My OS is running in danish, and I'm not sure what the iMovie events/ and iMovie original movies/ folders are called. If that matters.

  • Edited iMovie Project has disappeared

I spent hours editing an iMovie project last night and now the project is no where to be found.
The project file is on one of the hard drives of my Mac Pro but the event is on an external hard drive (ejected properly after iMovie was closed properly).
Since I don't remember the name of the iMovie project, it could still be there in its original form before any of my edits because what I did was drop the footage into a project, edit partially and duplicate it before continuing. 2 duplicates of only the pre-duplication project appear.
Where the heck did my edited project go? Surely it was saved SOMEwhere because I undid and redid things along the way. It does not show up in a search for iMovie projects that I sort to list by date opened.
What happened? and how can I avoid this from ever happening again?
I would have had my completed project last night and none of this would matter if iMovie would have allowed me to share it last night, but instead when I tried, an error message appears claiming I needed more memory available to create the project. I had 4gb of available memory at the time (this glitch is listed in a seperate discussion thread. i am asking where my project went in this one).

If you have moved your iMovie project files out of the Movies/iMovie Projects folder, iMovie will not see them.
Similarly, if you have moved your iMovie Event folders out of the Movies/iMovie Events/ folder, iMovie will not see them. The solution is to move them back where they were. (And then restart iMovie)
If you want to move projects and events to an external drive to save space on your mac, you need to do it within iMovie. The instructions are as follows....
    Moving projects: http://help.apple.com/imovie/#move7d66613
    Moving Events: http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3ac6d42c
If you want to move projects and events to an external drive so you can edit them on another Mac, follow the instructions for consolidating media. http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3ac6c7c9
