What happened to the ipad photo viewer in lock screen? I updated to iOS 7.0 and nolonger have the slide show and music while in lock sreen. This was the most used feature of my iPad since I put it in a dock on my desk. Is there another way to do that.

I 100% agree with ski-doug!!!
I use iPad 50% of the time to play music and display photos for my customers!!!
I also have seen many a business display picture slideshows to their incoming customers without granting access to the device!
I realize many will save personal pictures to their iPads and thus they will not want easy acces to them, and they could block this feature in previous iOS.
Please, please, please Apple, DO NOT generalize and figure we are all the same!

It sounds like you are not getting audio when you connect your headphones to your iPod Classic. I would use the troubleshooting steps in the following article named:

Step one is to reset your iPod, and here it is to get you started. There are additional troubleshooting steps if needed in the article as well:
To reset your iPod:
1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
Tip:
If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

While plugged into power (wall charger),
Perform a "hard reset" on the device by pressing down and holding the home button and the sleep/wake button for up to 30secs. until you see a black screen with the Apple logo, then release.
Then test to see if it solved the problem.

Did you already try to reset the iPad by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again?
You will not lose data doing a reset, but it can clear some glitches.

I lost my iPad in a cab in Manhattan, NYC last week. I've since replaced it. What happens to my old iPad? Can the 'thief' use it? What of my personal stuff on the device? It was passcode protected and set to clear all data after more than incorrect pin retries. Does that even work? Will they be able to connect it to iTunes? Where can I blacklist it?

If it is passcode protected then hopefully your data won't be compromised. If you had Find my Phone installed and activated via your Mobile Me account, then you can arrange for the iPad to reset when turned on erasing all content.
There is no "blacklist." Hopefully, you reported the theft to the Manhattan police and provided the serial number.

Yes there are certain iOS core apps that are allowed to run in the background. One of these is the Mail app so that push mail or scheduled fetch mail will work without having to have the screen on and the phone active. the clock is another one (the built in clock that comes as part of iOS) so the alarm functions still work when the phone is asleep. Notifications is another app that runs in the background.
However, the majority of apps and all 3rd party are incapable of running in the background (the iOS actually is designed this way, so wayward apps cannot run up data or drain the battery). Skype, for example, is only active when open and running actively in the foreground.

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."

There could be a defect, or you might just have a red wallpaper.
Is it always red, just when you awaken it, or just in certain Apps?
You could try rebooting the iPad by holding both the Home and Sleep buttons until the Apple logo appears. Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow. After the iPad restarts, see if it is still red.
If it is still in warrantee, see what the Apple Store Genius can do for you. If it is out of warrantee, I understand there are independent iPad repair centers.

Hi, do you mean that shortly after iOS powers up, the swirling progress circle comes up?
If that's the case, its instability in the OS. I'm more inclined towards completing a firmware flushing through iTunes.
Restore your iPad in this case through DFU (device firmware upgrade) mode
DFU is pretty much a power downed state of conducting an update.
Since your iPad is literally hiccing up *hic* every second *hic*, I'm thinking a powered up way of conducting a reset or firmware update isn't safe.
This is DFU
Attach the device to the pc
Turn the phone off
Hold power and home together for *exactly* 10 seconds
Release power but keep holding home until the pc beeps as a USB device is recognized.
At no point will the display come on. Now your restore should work.
Hold ctrl key + restore button on iTunes (for windows, I'm not sure of mac equivalent)
In the directory, point iTunes towards the ipsw download
Apple will now authenticate the firmware
Let the device do its job
