What happened to my iPhoto library it just disappeared?

I went to import photos off my camera into my iPhoto and before I did I noticed that all my other photos were gone. No they are not in the trash. iPhoto prompted for an upgrade and I clicked upgrade and the results ended in my entire library gone. Help please.

By being gone do you mean the library is not in your Pictures folder or when you open the library you don't see any photos or thumbnails?  If it's the latter apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • What happens to my iPhoto library after 2014?

I have a MacBook Pro using OXS 10.8.5 and  have all my photos in iPhoto 8.1.2.  It has worked for me for all these years. I understand that Apple will be phasing out iPhoto and Aperture (which I have downloaded but never learned how to use). Now I am getting really concerned as to what will happen to all the photos which I currently have in my iPhoto library, and subsequently on several hard drives.  I have purchased Lightroom 3, but again, need some assistance in initiating any importing, post editing etc. in it. Any suggestions? Comments?

There is a new app coming which will provide an upgrade path from both iPhoto and Aperture. So not a newer version of iPhoto nor a newer version of Aperture, but a whole new application.
Apple will update iPhoto and Aperture to run on the next version of the OS due in the Autumn. That means that you don't need to change anything for at least 15 - 18 months. That means you have time to look at the new app when it comes out and see if it's right for you. If it's not then you can fork out to buy Lightroom or Capture One or another app.
I would suggest upgrading to iPhoto 11 as I think the transition to the new app will probably be easier with it than earlier versions.

  • What happened to my iPhoto Library icon

How do I return my iPhoto Library Icon to what it is supposed to be.
This is what it is in Finder>Pictures
I don't know how this change occurred and would like to be corrected.

Add the following suffix to it
    .photolibrary
so that it reads iPhoto Library.photolibrary

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library as iTunes Library (Corrupt) and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to a recent state.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • What happened to all the Library and application support folders in Yosemite? How can I access them?

What happened to all the Library and application support folders in Yosemite? How can I access them?

    1. They’re still there, but hidden.
    2. Open your home folder, choose Show View Options from the Finder’s View menu, and check the box to show the library.

My iPhoto library has suddenly disappeared from my computer.
When i click on iPhoto it tells me to choose my library or create a new one. However no library option appears. I have searched the computer for the library but it does not seem to exist anymore. I did not have time machine set up, so there is no back up. Is there any way i can retrieve my library?
Here is a picture of what appears when i click on iPhoto:

In terms of searching i have searched for photos on my finder. However, none of the photos that appear are from my iPhoto Library.
Search with FindAnyFile. You can download it here:   http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/index.php
Search for any file with "ThumbJPGSegment" in the name. If you added at least one image to your library, the library should contain a file with this name, see OldToad's post: Re: Since I updated to iPhoto 9.5.1, my library is not listed or available. How can I find it? Can I use the time machine to restore it?

    Hi Sarah,
It sounds like the songs have either not yet synced over to the iPhone, or something went wrong when attempting to sync to the iPhone. My recommendation is to uncheck the "Sync Music" checkbox.
Once you have done that, recheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes once more. This will instruct iTunes to completely remove all music from your iPhone, and then copy the files once more. If you have a large amount of music, this initial sync may take a while.
If the above does not resolve your issue, see the following articles:

    Thanks,

  • Photos from my iphoto library are just green in imovie - Why?

I just bought iMovie 10 and I am using maverick. I imported a project from iphoto to imovie and started to work wih clips and photos. But now most of my potos are just green
    see below:
    Why?

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for the iPod Photo Cache.
Trash it. Start iPhoto and try sync again.

  • What exactly IS the iphoto library structure?

I have found that within the library, I can create new folders and albums to keep the pics in and then rename them with titles using the information box.
I also have found that I can nest folders but not albums.
Am I doing it right finally?
I saw that someone mentioned shoebox. what is that?

    <table><tr><td align=left bgcolor="#FFFFCC">I have found that within the library</td></tr></table>
I hope you mean within iPhoto when it's open as to do otherwise would be committing the cardinal sin of iPhoto, Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder. But since you're up and running OK you're doing things correctly.
Shoebox is an image cataloging application that can browser your HD and create catalog files (containing thumbnail renditions) of your image files. It can be use with any folder system. iView Media and MediaPro are other similar applications.

  • What happened to my iPhoto albums/events?  is there a way to retrieve them?

I know that iPhoto no longer exists, and i migrated my photos to Photos, but the albums/events that I spent years creating are gone!  Is there a way to retrieve them?

Moments in Photo are the new Events, i.e. groupings of photos sorted by date taken.
When the iPhoto Library was first migrated to Photos there was a folder created in the sidebar titled iPhoto Events and all migrated iPhoto Events (which are now Moments) are represented by an album in that folder. To open the sidebar if it's not already open use the Option+Command+S key combination.
There's a way to simulate events in Photos.
When new photos are imported into the Photos library go to the Last Import smart album, select all the photos and use the File ➙ New Album menu option or use the key combination Command+N.  Name it as desired.  It will appear just above the iPhoto Events folder where you can drag it into the iPhoto Events folder
When you click on the iPhoto Events folder you'll get a simulated iPhoto Events window.
The downside to the simulation is that the Album/Events can only be sorted automatically by Title. But they can also be sorted manually, either in the sidebar or in the folder's window at the right.
Ask Apple for more sorting options in Photos via https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html.

  • What happens to my Iphotos when I'm blogging?

The problem I've been having is when I try to upload photos to my blogspot blog.  I CAN  find them on Iphoto but they aren't there when I'm going through my blog to upload them.  Does that make sense?

  • What drive contains my iphoto library?

a year ago i moved my iphoto library from my hard drive to an external drive.
i then made another copy onto another external drive.
i am now confused which drive contains the library and which is the copy.
normally i just look at the date the file was accessed but i became confused today
when several photos contained no content and were 'blanks'.
if you open iphoto holding down the option key you get a dialog box
'choose photo library' with 3 choices: quite, create library and choose library.
if you selected 'choose library' you get a navigation box with that shows the i photo library
file in a drop down box at the top. clicking on the navigation arrows shows that that
folder sits within one of my drives. IS THAT THEN THE LOCATION OF THE IPHOTO LIBRARY?

    yes
when you choose a library that library will be used until you switch again

With the advent of v7 the iPhoto library is now a Unix Package File: to see inside simply right click on it and choose 'Show File Contents'.
There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves. If you're willing to risk database corruption, you can restore the older functionality simply by right clicking on the iPhoto Library and choosing 'Show Package Contents'. Then simply make an alias to the folders you require and put that alias on the desktop or where ever you want it. Be aware though, that this is a hack and not supported by Apple.
