What happened to my notes in mail?

When I upgraded to Marvericks and opened the notes app, I don't see my notes.

Ok..  deselect the box next to Notes in System Preferences > ICloud then reselect the box. Give iCloud a few minutes to re sync the data.
You must be using the same iCloud account on the iOS devices and your Mac in order for Notes to sync correctly.

  • Upgraded! What happened to my Notes in Mail?

I upgraded to  Maverick and now my Notes are gone! What happened to my Notes? Where are they?

It's not on my Dock between Messages and Reminders, which are also not on my Dock.
I had to use Spotlight to find it. They are still intact.

  • What happened to toDo's in Mail

What happened to ToDo's in mail? I used to be able to create a ToDo from a mail message I have not found a way to do that with the upgrade to Lion.

Hi, NO_PC.  I missed the to-do box on Mail also, but I played with Mail and iCal till I found how to do it.  I checked with Apple Express to be sure this was the way to do it.
In Mail, mouse over the header until you see the grab hand.  Drag it to iCal and drop it into the events column.  Then, grab the event and drop it in the Reminders column.  It will make a reminder but careful! cuz both event and reminder will be in focus.  If you delete the event, you'll delete the reminder too unless you first click in white space (or esc) to remove focus.  Then click on the event and delete.
Open the reminder and you'll see the URL box says "Show in Mail" so you can refer back to the original email.  If you "archive" the message it'll just stay in the archive mailbox till you're done with it.
I explained this in another section, if you want to read that (at the bottom):

  • Do you know what happened to the Notes i made on ipad 'Notes'? They seem to have been deleted. How do I get them back??

Do you know what happened to some Notes i made on ipad 'Notes'? I turned on the ipad and they have been deleted. I am not connected to the cloud? How do I get them back??

What exactly did your friend do ? Did you or he take a backup of your iTunes library before updating your computer ? Have you checked to see if your music is still on your computer ? By default your iTunes library is stored under :
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\
    Windows Vista: \Users\username\Music\iTunes
    Windows 7 and Windows 8: \Users\username\My Music\iTunes
If it's there then you can add it to your iTunes library via File > Add To Library.
If not then do you have a copy of your library on a backup ? If you do then use File > Add To Library to add it back.
If you haven't got a backup then you might, depending upon what country that you are in and if the music is still in your country's store, be able to redownload your iTunes purchases via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage.

  • What happens to calls when voice mail is not set up?

Odd question...what happens to calls placed to a number that does not have the voice mail set-up yet?  Do they show up as missed calls or anywhere in the call log for that number?  Or is it like the call never happened because it was not answered and could not go to voice mail?  Also curious as to whether or not missed calls show up on the phone once it is powered back on after having been shut off (powered all the way down).  I realize those calls will go to voice mail (provided it has been set-up) but will the calls show up as missed on the phone when it is turned back on?

Not odd...On Verizon if it is not set up, you will hear a recording that says "Im sorry, but the party you are trying to reach has a vm box that has not been set up yet". It will show as missed if the phone is on, and will appear in the log if the phone is on. If the phone is powered off, the call does not show in the log when turned back on. It will appear as if it never happened. You will only know if you get a VM (if its set up) or if the person tells you, hey I called you!

  • What happens with rules in the mail?

My rules are not working correctly....What happens?

in mail, you can set it to do certain things if it meets the criteria
The first rule, which comes preset makes any emails from apple appear slightly blue in your list, you can disable this with the checkbox or just Remove it altogether.
    Add Rule settings
Use the Add Rule pane to create the conditions a message must meet for the rule to apply and the actions to take when the rule is applied.
    Option
    Description
    Description
Enter a description of the rule, which appears in the list of rules. For example, “book club.”
If “any” or “all” of the following conditions are met
Specify when the rule applies to a message by choosing “any” or “all” from the pop-up menu. The rule can be applied when a message meets any (even just one) of the listed conditions, or only when it meets all of the conditions.
    Conditions list
Using the pop-up menus and the text field, create one or more conditions.
For example, choose Subject from the first pop-up menu, choose Contains from the second pop-up menu, and type “book club” in the text field. Click Add to create another condition, or Remove to delete one.
To add message headers to the pop-up menu, choose Edit Header List from the pop-up menu, click Add (+), enter a header name, and then click OK.
    Actions list
Using the pop-up menus, specify actions to take when a message meets the required conditions.
For example, choose Move Message from the first pop-up menu and then choose a mailbox named “my book club” from the second pop-up menu. Click Add to specify another action or Remove to delete one.
If you have multiple rules, it’s recommended that you create an action using “Stop Evaluating Mail Rules.”
As for rules not working, make sure everything is correctly set

  • What happened to my Notes?

Recently, my aging MacBook Pro 2,2 died on me. (15-inch, 2.33 GHz Core2Duo, running MacOS 10.6.8)
    As a replacement, I bought a refurbished Late-2012 iMac (Core i5, running MacOS 10.8)
I used Setup Assistant to import all of my data, which was very handy.
Problem: I had alot of Notes stored in Apple's Mail on the old MacBook Pro. Now I can't find them. The new Mountain Lion Notes doesn't seem to have them.
What's up? Is there anything I can do about it?

Have a look in Stickies.app in your applications folder, rather than Notes.app.

  • Keychain: What happened to "passwords not saved"?

I was about to answer this question by directing the user to Keychain Access, where he could find the relevant website and simply delete it.
For as long as I've known, if you tell a website to never save passwords for it, Safari would create a Keychain entry with the website URL along with the note "passwords not saved". From that moment on, Safari would not ask if you'd like to save the password. The Keychain entry was self-explanatory; if you asked Keychain to show the password the field would be blank.
So, I checked my Keychain for the several secure financial websites where I store various amounts of the enormous Galt wealth all over the globe. They're not in Keychain any more - they're gone completely!
I suspect this happened when I updated Safari from 4.0.4 to 4.0.5, since I got the familiar popup "Keychain has been updated" etc.
Something must tell Safari not to ask to store a password for a particular website, and without a Keychain entry, it can't be the Keychain, right? So what is it now? A cookie?

Thanks, BD, this makes sense to me, though I can't seem to find a Login keychain I think I understand what's going on now.
The difficulty seems to be function of how Safari interacts with secure websites, and that's changed with Safari's evolution. At one time Safari would give you the option of saving names and passwords no matter what. They were stored in Safari's Autofill preferences while the actual passwords were stored in the Keychain. Later, it appears that Safari began to honor a secure website's request to not even do that, so I'm never given the choice. Those Keychain entries disappeared.
Firefox behaves differently still. At least one secure website will not allow Safari to autofill, but the same one will autofill with Firefox. It requires a ridiculously secure, non-memorable password, such as U*ng%!+{&.4 - you know, the kind you have to write on a Post-It note stuck to your monitor since it expires every 36 hours. It's a government website and by definition, stupid. For that one I use Firefox.
I would surmise that if the internet standards allow for a choice, Apple is taking the more secure route.
So, some websites, even though their address starts with https:// allow Safari to store names and passwords. I surmise that some do not; for those Safari will not even give you the option. I was looking for those in my Keychain - now they're gone, and I guess that's the way it's going to be!
You deserve a by the way, but I had clicked "Helpful" before I unraveled this mystery. Sorry!

  • Unsure of what happened to my address book, mail, and app store?

My address book, mail, and app store are missing! Did they come with the computer when I bought it? (I have Mac OS X 10.6.8 and I bought it about 2 years ago) They all have different problems when I click on them. For starters, they three look like this in my app folder
Then, when i click my address book, it comes out all smushed like this: ( i had to crop out much of the image due to personal information, but all information and links are smushed)
The app store, when clicked, force quits immediately.
& lastly, the mail will not even open. no blank screen, no force quitting apple message, nothing. infact, to quit the mail program, i have to force stop it myself.
I really want to use these things and I just don't understand why they dont work, shouldnt they be included with my computer? that's the impression i was under, i didn't know i had to purchase the app store, mail, or address book? why wont they show up and what can i do to fix this?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only Guest login created by Find My Mac.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The Guest login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • What happened to the wheel in Mail?

The little rotating indicator wheel which used to be a feature of "Mail" has gone. It was so very useful when you have a slow connection and without it I can not see whether The Mail app is attempting to send mail or not. Neither can I see when the app is attempting to receive incoming mail and on which of my accounts? It has also disappeared from "classic view" which means that the "classic view is not actually the classic view"!
Is there a way to get my wheel back? Reinventing the wheel would have been OK but removing it makes no sense!

Yup, it's gone. I miss it, too. And so do a lot others, there are already several threads here. But none of us has managed to bring it back. Feedback -> Apple.

  • What happened to my notes!!! I was writing a lot and suddenly a weeks worth disappeared. If this happens again I'm getting a galaxy

I have been writing 1000 words per day and zap! Everything back a week is gone. Multiple files. I know my butt didn't erase it. This is so messed up. It is worth more than my phone. Is there any chance I could get it back?

There are many people that I run into with similar problems. I am not stupid. I am a college professor and teach a lot of engineers. I am busy and work very hard. I was trying to write chapters to my book on my phone since I can do that on the fly. I was very upset when the information disappeared. The last thing I need is some apple blogger telling me they don't know what Mac is in a condescending way. If the phone worked right in the first place, I wouldn't need to back it up multiple times per day in fear of losing stuff. I don't have time to become an expert on wiping and reinstalling software and navigating multiple iTunes accounts. I had a one on one subscription and they could never figure it out either. If I could merge iTunes accounts, it would certainly simplify my experience. I would pay good money to merge my iTunes accounts.

  • What happened to my NOTES after updating to Maverick

  • When my email opens when I hit inbox it comes in as read. It used to come in bold and like unread what it is what happened I did not do anything

It is pretty simple. It used to always come in bold cause it was unread. Now it is coming in as read and that is not right .

Firefox does not do email. You probably have a web email application and I keep getting notices all the time for email applications that are being changed -- change now or get changed anyway, I think is how some of them read.
