If you've updated your iOS device to iOS 8, the photos should still be on the device. The photos will be organized differently than they were previously, though.
In iOS 8, the Photos app organizes photos by date instead of by device or photo source. Here are some questions you might have about Photos after updating to iOS 8.
Where can I find the Camera Roll?
The Photos app in iOS 8 doesn't separate photos and videos based on how they were added to your device. Instead of a Camera Roll, your photos and videos (even ones that you didn't take with or save to your device) are organized by date in Photos.
When you open the Photos app and tap the Photos tab, you'll see your photos and videos listed by Moments, Collections, and Years. Tap Moments to see individual photos organized by date and location, tap Collections to zoom out to a more condensed view, and then tap Years to zoom out even more. Tap a collection or year to zoom back in.
And you'll now have a Recently Added album, which shows the photos and videos added to your device in the last 30 days, organized by date. To see your Recently Added album, tap Albums > Recently Added.
Where can I find the My Photo Stream album?
In iOS 8, there's no longer a separate My Photo Stream album. Instead, photos that were in the My Photo Stream album are now in the Recently Added album.
If you were using iPhoto for iOS, make sure that you migrated your photos.

Can't seem to import my photos after upgrading to iOS 6

I have an iPhone 4S and just upgraded to iOS 6. I used to import my images to my computer using Preview on my iMac, but today when I tried doing that, no photos appeared. I also noticed that the name of my phone is now "Apple iPhone" when I connect, when it used to be called the name of my phone ("Miellen's iPhone" for example). I tried with Image Capture and iPhoto, and none of them showed any images from my phone when connected. It was like they connected to a phone with no photos.
Can't import my images! Aargh, what happened?

Before updating to iOS 8 I had in iOS 7 deactivated the service Photostream. All of my 200 photos I had stored only in memory of my iPad. After updating to iOS 8 I activated Photostream. The photo is there but not uploaded. They are still in the memory of the iPad. The new post-shooting photos uploaded to iCloud without problem. Is there any possibility of my 200 photos to get iCloud? Thank you and sorry for bad English.

Same thing happened to me. I realized it was Foursquare the app that was consuming the location service constantly. I went to Settings > Privacy > Location Services and disabled Foursquare for location services.
Maybe you have Foursquare or another similar app that's consuming the location service. Perhaps you should try disabling the apps in Location Services one at the time.

I did the upgrade, now my picture are out of order and only have the backup photos and some of them are missing. What do I do to get my photos back? Some day I will learn not to do the upgrades always screws something up.

You bought an upgrade, not a new license. There is no way for you to run on a third machine without disobeying the legalities of the license agreement, as you have exhausted your 2 activations of your one license. The technical aspects have been discussed a couple of times, so do a search, but in light of your setup they become more or less irrelevant.

How to save your photos after upgrading to iOS 6 OTA and stuck in DFU or Recovery Mode

Ive been working on this all day. I found somebody's JAR that is able to provide SSH acess into your phone even if you are stuck in recovery or dfu mode. I am running a macbook pro with win 64 bootcamp and couldnt get itunes 32 bit installed to work with the JAR so I restarted in MacOS rather than mucking around with getting itunes 32. I then clicked the JAR and mac asked to install a java runtime. After doing this, the JAR would run and eventually put my phone into a state where I could SSH into it. After that, I downloaded Cyberduck and copied /mnt1 and /mnt2 to my mac in case I needed anything off of these. I ran PhotoRec and it began to find tons of pictures, pdfs, and whatnor. Rather than wait for it to find the stuff I really wanted, I searched through /mnt2/mobile/media/dcim/ and got all my pics. Awesome. What a pain.
That took all day to figure out. Ugh.

Try disabling Norton and syning. If that doesn't help try uninstalling iTunes and all of its components by following this guide: Windows XP or Windows Vista/7, then reinstall iTunes. You must follow this guide exactly or it will not be successful. Note: uninstalling iTunes will only remove the application; it will not touch your iTunes library or data.
If you continue to have trouble you can use an app like PhotoSync to wirelessly transfer your photos to your computer while you continue to try to troubleshoot this.

I have a nearly identical problem with my Ipad 3. Mine is the left channel. I've yet to find help, but have found a number of other posts on this and other forums discussing the issue. People have tried restore, reset etc. Also, cleaning the ports with compressed air or cotton swabs. It appears to be a software issue, but no one is sure.
Along with the original poster, I'd appreciate any help.

Did you run any updaters recently, i.e. like just before this happened? Try this first fix: make a duplicate copy of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file,, Cache.dbt, that is located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences..
