What happened to my "Photoshop JPEG file" format?

On my previous two computers -- a G5 running 10.4, a MacBookPro on 10.5, both using Photoshop CS3 -- I used to have two kinds of JPEG files. One was listed in the Finder as "JPEG file," and that opened in Preview; the other was "Photoshop JPEG file," which would open Photoshop.
On my new setup, a MacMini on 10.7 using Photoshop CS5, there are no Photoshop JPEG files, just plain JPEG files that open in Preview.
I need to get the two formats back, as the difference helped me determine which images I had worked on and aided in my photo workflow. I don't want to change all files to Open With Photoshop in Get Info, as that doesn't solve the problem.
Is this something in the Finder? Photoshop? Preferences? How do I get that functionality back? Thanks.

Filname extensions are already on. Also, I typically save most of my images as jpegs so -- for example -- I can send them off to labs, which usually don't accept straight Photoshop PSD files.
I guess what I need to know is whether the separate "Photoshop JPEG File" format has been removed completely from OS 10.7, or can it be restored. It would be a shame if it's gone, as it was a handy function.

  • Photoshop cannot open files in the "Adobe Photoshop JPEG file" format

Strange intermittent issue on Mac, 10.6, CS4. Anyone know what happens to standard image files that makes them so PS cannot open them?
    Thanks

Check your file name closely.  If you have illegal characters it could make them unreadable (dashes, dots, slash, etc.)  Also, set OS to show extensions and make sure you have not lableled it xxxxx.jgg.jpg.

  • JPEG file format option missing in PSE 9

The JPEG file format option in the "Save as" dialog is no longer listed in PhotoShop Elements 9.  I've completely uninstalled and re-installed the software, but the JPEG file format option is not there.

Most likely you have a 16 bit file and JPEG is an 8 bit format. Go to image>mode>8 bits/channel and jpeg should reappear as an option.

  • Photoshop Jpeg Files

Hi. I've recently installed Photoshop CS4 Extended on my new Imac. I am a photographer and have saved a number of edited Jpeg images into my Pictures folder on my Mac in order to upload onto a Color Labs Site for printing. I have never had a problem uploading any images on my windows based laptop. All of my edited Jpeg Images are now saved as "Photoshop Jpeg Files" I am now unable to export any of these images as the files do not appear to be recognised when I attempt to open them. Additionally, I can't even import them into Lightroom 2 as it comes up as No photos to import. Please can somebody help....

Yes it sounds like somethings wrong with the jpg pictures- sure you really saved them as jpg and not just naming them as such by fault?
Secondly, I've experienced some windows based servers not be able to recognise jpg saved with a Mac-preview.
So you could try saving your files with no preview.
    Torben.

Nothing happens to your files and "Mac apps". You install Windows on a new partition separate from OSx. Read the Boot Camp manuals. http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/

  • Exporting from Aperture to Photoshop CS3- file format

If I have my files in raw CR2 format in Aperture 2.1 and I then go to the edit the image in photoshop CS3 will it remain in the raw CR2 format or does it convert it to a tiff file automatically?
Currently I have PS CS2 and it converts to a tiff file when I go edit in photoshop however I thought this may be beacuse PS CS2 does not support raw files from my Canon 40D, PS CS3 does though.
Incidently the same thing happens when I use the dodge and burn tool in Aperture 2, it conversts to Tiff format.

"Will there ever" is a loaded question Apple rarely comments on future product releases, and anyone that would know wouldn't be able to comment.
So it's not possible to say if future dodge & burn (or other plugins) can work without rendering a TIFF file.
As far as "multiple file formats" though -- it shouldn't really be something you need to worry about (other than the fact that the TIFF takes up some disk space). You can export to JPEG from the original or the version, and Aperture will track the files together.

  • Photoshop CS5 file format.

Im working on a big art project and have had to make a few modifications on a background picture I've been working on. I named the file its original name but added "v1.2" on the end of it. The problem is that it reads .2 and now it says its in the file format of 2 and photoshop cant open that file. Anyone have any ideas? or am I screwed and need to start all over? please I need some help project due soon.

Do you mean that you changed the file extension?  If so just add .psd (assuming that's how you saved it) to the file name and all will be fine.
I don't know how Apple does things, but if you are on a Windows system Explore might be set to hide file extensions.  That is the default.  Open the containing folder, and click on Organize (top left) Then on Folders and Search options  and finally on the View tab.  Untick 'Hide extensions for known file types' and you'll be able to see what's happening with your file.
I'm sorry if you knew most of that, but if so, just ignore the egg sucking lesson.

  • Photoshop JPEG file structure

Where, and with what index/marker, does Photoshop store figure captions in JPEG files?

Thank you.  Can you tell me how to find it using a Hex Editor and the marker that identifies it?  I need to move the caption in a lot of files from where it was placed by Microsoft Digital Image Library to where it wants to be for Photoshop.  I plan to write a BASIC program to move it if I can key on the appropriate marker.  Actually, I see the caption text in three different locations in the Photoshop Hex file, but I haven't figured out how it is controlled.

  • What happens to versions data when files are deleted ?

When working on a document with an application using autosave, I understand modifications are regularly saved together with the actual state of the file. When such file is dulicated, history and the different versions are not duplicated.
My question is, what happens to the versions data if the original file is deleted and is the space used for all versions reclaimed ?
Working with big documents on SSD disk could be a problem seems to me.
    Thanks for your comments.

    Hi Tony,
As soon as data is deleted from the cube, Data will not be available for reporting. because for any reports data is fetched from Tables, for DSO they will fetch from Active table.
So you will receive a message Data not found, if the data is deleted from Cube's table.
Assign some points, if this is helpful.
    Rgs,

  • What's with the Keynote 6 file format?

Uploading Keynote 6 files to our box.com storage environment (or to Dropbox for that matter) fails when done through a browser. In fact all browser uploads of Keynote 6 files destroys the file and makes it into a folder.
I there ANY way around this except zipping all files? Is this "packaged file format" just folders? Seem totally bizar that Apple would choose a file format that no other file system or protocol recognizes as a file.

I was getting this all the time with 1.5, I have not seen it yet with 2. I think it's a memory thing, it happens more quickly if I am running Safari and other stuff. Sometimes quitting Aperture then starting again does the trick, more often shutting the machine down and rebooting clears it. I also have some very large tiff's in the library, Aperture can't (I've not tried it in 2 yet) cope with them, always the unsupported error message. These files are between 300mb to 1gig, sometimes it justs hangs on to the 300mb but mostly not. By the end of the day it was a real problem, I could only export images 2-3 at a time, if I tried to email 10 low res I would get either an out of memory warning or unsupported etc.
Something holds onto the memory somewhere either in Ap or Safari or all things running.
    Kevin.

  • Importing Raw and Jpeg file formats to Mac Pro

Since migrating to Photos from iPhotos when importing photos only Jpegs seem to get imported, not Raw files when shot in both formats on my NikonD5300. Does anyone know how i can import the two file formats simultaneously? (I have double checked the settings on my camera!)
    Thanks Louise

Photos will import both the RAW and the JPEG, but stack them and use only one of them as the original file.
You will see badge overlays "J" or "R", indicating if the RAW or the JPEG is currently uses as the original file to render edits.
Open the photo in "EDIT" mode, then you will be able to switch to the "RAW" version as the original file, in the "Image" menu.  The options "Use RAW as original" or "Use JPEG as original" are only available in Edit mode, also "Reprocess RAW"
