What Happened to my Ringtones in iTunes?

I'm running the latest build of iTunes (8.0.2), and Mac OSX Leopard (10.5.6), and my iPhone 3G is running the 2.2 software version.
I am trying to get a few custom ringtones onto my phone, but it would seem that something has happened to prevent me from succeeding.
No matter what I have attempted, my ringtones list do not appear under the RingTones tab of my collection ( I had over 300 a few months ago), and none seem to show up in the Ringtone tab on my phone when connected to iTunes.
- I've converted my wav/mp3 files to AAC formats and renamed them to the .m4r file extension.
- All my samples are 128k, stereo sounds that are less than 30 seconds (most are under 10s)
- The ringtone option no longer appears under the View Options menu.
What gives? I'm at my wits end!

Make sure that your custom ringtones are NOT in your Music Library. They will not transfer or work if they are.
The should only be in the RingTones Folder.

What happened to English films on iTunes in Switzerland?

Yeah, you can download them from Apple and from other sources. But then you have to add them to iTunes manually, you have to write (or copy & paste from somewhere else) descriptions, and jump through other hoops to get the same end result that used to be one-click-easy from within iTunes directly. Unless you don't care about having them neat and organized and stuff like that.

This is an unfortunate side affect and agree that it is cumbersome if you wish to include all the extra info iTunes used to provide. I suggest sending your disappointment to apple via the iTunes feedback channel at http://www.apple.com/feedback

Restore your library from a recent / current backup.  If you've failed to maintain a backup of data you obviously regard as valuable, see turingtest2's user tip on Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash.

Apple has never seemed serious about Apple Radio. You want to see how to do this right, try Amazon Prime Music. It's terrific!

  • What happens to library when uninstalling iTunes? Please!!

    Silly question, I know...
But as I'm experiencing the same problem as everyone else after updating to I Tunes 6 (computer crash + ipod not recognized by itunes), I want to uninstall and reinstall it...
So, what happens to all my music files after I uninstall itunes?? Will they still be there after reinstall or lost forever??
    Thanks for your answers.

I always wondered if my music would be gone if I uninstalled iTunes. It does not erase you're music.
This might not be exactly the same problem but lots of people (myself included) had problems after installing iTunes 6.0. I did the following and it finally installed correctly.
    I went to
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301
and downloaded the Cleanup utility near the bottom of that page. When it installs on your machine it will scan your computer for every installer every ran on you're machine. Only select iTunes and Qtime and delete those 2 installers. Then I went to add/remove programs and removed iTunes and Qtime. Prior to this Qtime would not unistall but now it did. Funny thing was there was no prompting by windows once I hit "remove/repair" in the "add/remove programs" function.
Then rerun the iTunes 6.0.1 update. That had been failing to install Qtime prior to this but now it installed and I see all my music again and iTunes works. Let me know if this does the trick, I hope so.

  • What happens when i connect to itunes when ive used icloud since i first got my device?

Ive always used icloud but now i have ran out of storage i want to back up my devices using itunes, what will happen when i connect my device to itunes for ythe first time? I am using Windows 8.1 and have 3 apple devices (Ipod touch 5, ipad 2, an a ipad mini original)
    Thanks in advance!

Yes - if you try to sync, then it will tell you that it is a new device and everything will be erased. When you sync, you are syncing with the data in the actual iTunes Library. You select which Apps, Music, Movies, TV, Photos, Books, etc. that you want to sync to your device in the Device Profile tabs that will display in iTunes when you hook up your device. Whatever you have selected will sync to your device.
If you have your Contacts, Notes, Calendars, etc. already checked to sync with iCloud (not backup, but the items that are tuned on under Settings>iCloud on both your device and your computer), then those will not get replaced.
If everything on your device is purchased from the iTunes Store, you can download it all to your computer by going to the appropriate tab in the iTunes Store, click on Purchased under the Quick Links section to the right, and then download anything that has a cloud next to it.
Here is a support article on syncing:

  • What happened to my apps in iTunes

I did a clean install on my MacPro with Lion. Mine is one of the machines not supported by Mountain Lion. Before I cleaned out the drive, I cloned it, so I have everything on another drive installed in the same MacPro.
My iTunes Library was over a decade old and a giant mish-mash of folders nested inside of folders. Easy enough, I just downloaded my library from my iTunes Match account. It's my iPhone and iPad apps I'm curious about. Obviously with a new library and clean drive, I would not have any of my old apps in the new iTunes. I figured that when I attached my iPhone and iPad for a sync, those apps on the iOS devices would just reverse sync those apps back to iTunes. This doesn't happen. I just a a few apps, I added since the fresh computer.
How do I get all of those apps back into iTunes?

Obviously u remove itunes and setup it again. U shouldn't setup it in windows partision
There are some steps u should do :
1-u should go to ipad icon show in itunes and right click on it there icon called (transfer purchases) this will take ur apps on ur devices to itunes
2-u should backup ur device by itunes or icloud
3-go to window where U can see ur devices apps on itunes. u should sync ur application with ituns it will remove ur apps and setup it again
4-u will restore ur device from ur backup (step 2)
    And goodluck man

  • What happened to my ringtones???

I recently downloaded the new software for my iphone 3g. I have lost all my ringtones, however when i reinstall them from itunes they are not showing up in my ringtones settings. Very annoying when i spent good money on them. Anyone got any ideas?

I have the same problem after updating my phone but when I updated my husbands phone all of his are still on the phone. I did notice though that in itunes under the ringtones tab that they have a exclamation mark and if you try to play it it states that the file could not be located. Doesn't make a lot of since that my husbands works and mine does not.

  • What happens to my music in iTunes if I sell my iPod to someone else.....

I want to sell my iPod Nano to someone, but want to keep my music in iTunes for use with an iPod I plan to get in the future....I can do that, right?
    How would that all work?
Can I sell it with my music loaded onto the iPod for their use? They just wouldn't have access to my iTunes library....or am I off on that?
Sorry if this is a dumb question!

You should restore the iPod before you sell it. Restoring your iPod will erase the hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings: Restoring iPod to Factory Settings with iTunes 7
Restoring iPod to factory settings with iPod updater
Alternatively if your iPod is set to update automatically whenever it is linked to another computer your songs will be erased and replaced by whatever is in the new iTunes.

  • What happened to display duplicates in itunes 11

Just upgraded to itunes 11 and it seems display duplicates is no longer available? Really useful tool

I think it's been removed, which is frankly astonishing. It wasn't a perfect tool but did help when you have a large library. It needs putting back ASAP. I've submitted feedback via http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

  • What happened to Cover Flow in iTunes 11?

This upgrade is not as good than iTunes 10 was. I used cover Flow all the time an now it´s gone. How can I downgrade to iTunes 10 till Apple implements Cover Flow again in a new release of iTunes?

Totally agree! I downloaded latest i-tunes - and how I wish I could take back that moment.
I have thousands of music files and I used to be able to see them as a split List and Cover Flow which was perfect for flicking between Album/Artist/ Name etc whilst being able to scroll through the visual reference of Album Covers.
Something that all lovers of music have enjoyed for years. It echoed the experience of rifling through record collections.
i-Tunes used to be good for archiving all my music in a relatively user friendly format.
Why have they dumped this format!
    Please bring back Cover Flow!

  • What happened to individual ringtones for contacts?

Lost mine in one of the recent upgrades. Is there a way to get them back?

My phone continiously loses the ringtones that I set for some of my contacts. It goes to default ringtone from these in the phone. I change it back to my ringtone melody for this contact, but it does not save it. Please propose some solutions, because it is really annoying. Thank you

  • What Happened to .mov playback in iTunes

I upgraded to 7.6.2 and now none of the .mov files I have will play in itunes. They used to work just fine, now I get a blank screen, or I hear the audio but there is no video. Is there any way to fix this problem. It worked in older versions of iTunes, no reason why these files should stop working now.
