What Happened to My Speedy Wireless Connection?

If someone can help, I'd appreciate it, because Apple hasn't been able to figure this one out.
I've had an iBook G4 for over 2 years now, connected to my cable internet service by way of airport extreme base station. The connection is speedy and always consistent. I always have full coverage and everything is great.
Here's my problem: On Friday I purchased a brand new MacBook. It's great, except that my wireless connection is really bad! When I open up Internet Connect, the range (or connectivity) shows going from 100% (all bars blue) down to about 20% and then back up again. This makes for a connection ALMOST as slow as dial up!
Of course the first thing I did was re-set my base station, make sure all the software was updated, etc...That didn't work, so I called Apple who told me to disconnect my 2.4GHz cordless phone. Nope. No interference there. I unplugged the phone and nothing changed. That was the ONLY solution Apple could give me except to take the new machine to the Genius Bar.
I've just returned home from the Apple Store and I'm more frustrated than ever. My connection in the store was lightning fast and consistent for the entire time I was there.
Here's the rub..My iBook still works great. Fast as ever. The new MacBook is picking up 3 times as many nearby networks as the iBook, but can't seem to connect well to MY network. Argh! I just paid $1500 for this machine, plus $49 per month for broadband and now I'm working on dial-up speed. This is gonna drive me crazy!!!
Thanks in advance for any suggestions....

if you really
want a secure network keep WPA but if not change your
security to WEP at least then your speed will
increase. This is all based on if you have WPA
security enabled.
I have always used 128bit WEP...for better or worse. Should I switch to 40bit? If something doesn't work soon, I'm sending this blasted thing back. I'm paying stupid money every month for cable internet service and I'm getting dial-up speed. I just can't figure out why my iBook runs like a wireless dream, and this 'great' new computer can't stream video or music from the internet. Not what I'd expect from this revved-up machine! It's frustrating....

    plz help

If you downloaded the correct version for your iPad model (and the different models have different ipsw files), then you should be able to navigate to it in iTunes by pressing and holding the shift key on Windows (command key on Mac) when clicking the Check For Updates button.

  • What happens to PSCredential obejct when connecting to O365 using Connect-MSOLService cmdlet

    Hello all,
I've been trying to find this information on Google but I've come up short.
Basically what I want to know is how the PSCredential object is treated when connecting to O365 via the Connect-MSOLService cmdlet.
For example, running the following code creates a secure PSCredential object
    $cred = get-credential
Now I can run the Connect-MSOLService cmdlet to connect to O365 like so:
    Connect-MsolService -Credential $cred
My question is, how are the encrypted credentials treated when passed to O365 via the cmdlet? Are they decrypted at any point, or does O365 create a similar secure string and compare the hashes?

  • What happens if I delete Synchronization Connection and Create a new one

So I need to change the forrest name on my user profile synchronization connection. This field is grayed out so the only way I see to change it is to create a new connection and delete the old one.  Is this the correct way to do this? If not what is
the correct way that will not affect people's access.

That's correct. Also, UPA has nothing to do with permissions, so there won't be any impact to user access.

  • HT1657 What happens if my AppleTV looses connectivity with Apple Stopre BEFORE my movie finishes?!  I am unable to watch the movie now!  Do I get  charged?

My Apple TV suddenly stopped in the middle of a movie and notified me that it had lost contact with Apple Store.  I reconnected and it did not recognize I had already paid for a rental.  So I tried to rent it again and it again told me it had lost contact.  Bottom line, do I get charged?  What address is there where I can dispute the charge if I do get charged?

As it says on the page that you posted from :
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.
Why it's like that I don't think that Apple have said (these are user-to-user forums). If you haven't downloaded it on your iPad then have you checked to see if you can download it on your computer's iTunes (Store > Check For Available Downloads menu option) or Apple TV ?
If it doesn't show on either of them then you can try contacting iTunes Support and see if they will let you download it on a different computer/device or refund or credit you : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes Support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • What is the best way to connect a MacBook Pro to my HiFi system ?

    Hi,
I'm new to Apple support communities having just bought my first Macbook Pro (a 17" 2.5GHz i7 model) and this is my very first community post.
Im a bit of a Hi-Fi enthusiast, so, with my new MacBook Pro I've taken the opportunity of completely reloading my iTunes library in high quality Apple Lossless format. Took a while but now I've completed the task Im pleased I've done it.
My question is, what is the best way to connect a Macbook Pro to a high quality Hi-Fi preamp - my Hi-fi system is musical Fidelity, and the pre amp (an A5  CR Pre amp) and this pre amp, which has superb audio quality, only has analogue phono inputs ?
I'm interested to understand what both the wired and wireless connection options are. I'm guessing one option must be to use the headphone output, but I have no idea if the output from the headphone socket on my new macbook (which is presumably designed to drive headphones) would be at a suitable level for a phono line level input ?
Ive also read a few comments about using digital connection - and my second question would be - what is the audio digital connection on my macbook ?
Aplogies if this question has been asked lots of times before but I've looked through some previous posts and can't find any answers in simple and straightforward language concentrating on the issue of connecting a MacBook Pro to an analogue phono pre amp input ?
Thanks in anticipation of some advice.

What is the best way to connect a MacBook Pro to my HiFi system?
Look at the back of the reciever and see what your connection options are, the front headphone jack is output usually.
The Mac's  analog audio in/out ports doubles as a optical in/out ports.
The analog won't over power your amp, it's just a headphonejack, like a powered mic, just enough power to get the signal to the destination in one piece.
Since you have a analog amp, your stuck with inferior analog connections, however you mentioned you wish to listen to the best sound quality of your lossless music.
To do that your going to need a decent surround sound system with Toslink optical import jacks, a Toslink stereo jack to regular Toslink adapter, Toslink cable and enable the optical output in your System Preferences >Sound
Another method is to use a Airport Express, it also has duo analog/opical out port. Then set up the Airport Express for iTunes streaming using the Airport Utility, then in iTunes setup the lower right corner one can set the connection.
I recommned a Harmon Kardon surround sound system, with their 100 watt satelight speakers and the 200 watt subwoofer. Enable the "concert hall" and other neat effects which will turn your 2.0 (stereo) iTunes music into 4 channel speaker sound filling the room with music and sending the lower channels to the subwoofer.
It will likely bring tears to your eyes that you can actually hear the full quality of your music as intended, I almost quarranty you will never want listen to music on a crappy iPhone or iPod again.
If a surround sound system is out of your budget, you can get by using the Harmon Kardon "Go Play" portable stereo and a analog stereo cable.
If your going to use your analog amp to power reference speakers, then there are various analog adapters of all sorts to make the appropriate connections once you know what they are, check out Radio Shack online for them.

  • Load balancing - what happens if a server goes down?

    Hi, Just an academic question.
Assume I have 2 DA servers behind a BIG-IP load balancer, named DA1 and DA2.
If I enable Load Balancing (BIG-IP in my case), what happens to the clients already Connected to DA1 when IP-HTTPS is used?
    For example:
Client1 is connected to BIG-IP, which in turn redirect this client to DA1-Server. Assume that DA1-server goes down, what happens with the client then? I assume the Client will be redirected to DA2-server by BIG-IP after some time, meaning it will have to establish
the connection from scratch. Is this correct and roughly how long does it take for the clients to connect to the DA2-Server?
Since IP-HTTPS is using it's own pool and IPv6 prefix per DA server, I assume this will happen? And the DA client1 will receive a new IPv6 address from DA2 ?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
It depends of the way your Big-IP is checking the servers in your pool.
The client will try to reconnect to the HTTPS interface and still be redirected to server1 until your Big-IP validate that the server1 is not responding and disable it.
And yes, you'll receive a new IPv6 address because each server in a DirectAccess NLB cluster has a specific IPv6 range for the clients.

  • When I'm in Windows 7, I have wireless connection problems.

So I have an interesting problem. When I'm in Windows, I'll be online and it'll be working fine, but then the connection will have a problem. It'll still have the bars showing a connection, but it'll say that there's no internet access. If I run troubleshooting, it fixes the problem and states that the issue was "Wirelss Network Connection does not have a valid IP configuration". After this, the problem doesn't come up again until I shut down the computer. After that, the problem happens again the next time I'm on.
It only happens on the Windows side of the computer, and it only seems to happen with my home wireless connection. I'm wondering if there's something wrong with the drivers or something?
    Can someone help me out?
    Here's my mac model:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP583

My Mac also does this when I'm running Windows 7 via Bootcamp. It did not do this when I was running the Windows 7 beta version. Clearly it is a Windows setting, or Windows has changed the meaning of its lid-close options.
Mine is set to "Sleep" as the lid close action in power options. So either "Sleep" is now forcing a restart, or it was set to something other than sleep (Hibernate?) before.
Also, most bizarrely to me, how long my computer is sleeping seems to affect whether it restarts. If I just close it and open it again, it works fine. If I close it and go to work, when I get back, it will go through the bootcamp restart.
If anyone knows, I'd love to hear it.

  • Wireless Connection Keeps disconnecting and reconnecting

I recently got a new router to replace my old one (which had the same issue) and it frequently disconnects randomly for a couple seconds then reconnects again. This seems to only happen to anyone using wireless connections and not when its connected with an Ethernet cable. I've even changed the router channel and the problem still persists and its not near anything the could disrupt the signal so I don't understand.

With the same issue on 2 routers, it's probably not a defective router.  But it could be the settings.  As Matt suggested check your security settings and the wireless mode.  If all of your devices are "n" use performance mode.  Otherwise use compatibility mode.
Inssider (available for free at the following link) will show you other devices and enable you to pick the best channel.
    http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/
Is the problem is on multiple devices or just one?  If it's only one the issue could be the wireless card.
Since it is a wireless problem think about distance and obstruction.  They will reduce signal strength and could cause intermittent problems.  Try testing close to the router and see if the same problem occurs.  Router positioning can improve signal quality.  Don't overlook little things.  Example: many users stand the router up.  I found that I get better reception with it laying on it's side.  And one of my laptops has a significant change in performance by rotating it 90degrees.  The kind of problem you are having may need some trial and error research to solve.

  • If I have two laptops connected to a single wireless hard drive, what happens when one laptop wants to go on a trip and the other one needs to stay home?

if I have two laptops connected to a single wireless hard drive (i.e. Time Capsule), what happens when one laptop wants to go on a trip and the other one needs to stay home?  I'm afraid I know the answer, but I'm hoping Apple has a great solution to my problem.

What if this little piggy goes to market but this little piggy stays home?
The computer on a trip will do snapshot backups on the hard drive that will then be incorporated into the Time Machine backup once you get it back home. See
OS X Lion- About Time Machine's "local snapshots" on portable Macs
Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder and enter or paste the appropriate command line. Press RETURN and enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed.
To turn them ON: sudo tmutil enablelocal
To turn them OFF: sudo tmutil disablelocal
Note that turning them OFF will also delete all existing snapshots.

  • What's wrong with my ipad3 every 5 minutes I lost my wireless connections?

    I don't know what's happen? Every 5 minutes lost wireless connection. I bought today and I can't use :(

Try a reset. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the red slider.
Also turn your router off for 30 seconds and on again.

  • What happens if Local Mode LAP lost connection to Controller?

    Hey,
I wonder what happens to the wireless client and LAP running in local mode if connection to wireless lan controller is down OR the controller itself is down? I do not think LAP will reboot by itself but will wireless client lost wifi connection and internet connection via the LAP?

H-REAP/FlexConnect is different and it can keep clients connected depending on authentication methods. This will explain it better:
