What happened to Publish / Subscribe?

I still keep ClarisWorks 5 (Classic only) to open documents I created using the wonderful OLE-type Publish / Subscribe feature it has.
Does anyone know why it was dropped from AppleWorks, or is it still there somewhere, hidden quietly from view?
CW5 is one reason why I can never migrate to an Intel Mac, unless some kind soul writes an OS 9 emulator for it on the same lines as Virtual PC.

No. It's gone.

You might want to update CW 5 to AppleWorks 5.0.4, the last CW/AW 5 version. Make a copy of your current CW folder and put it in a safe place before doing the update so you'll be able to easily revert if you decide CW is better for your purposes.

What happens when publishing both SFW and HTML5?

I am publishing courses that will be used for both mobile devices (iOS and Android tablets) and computers. Most of the learners will access these by computer. When publishing to HTML, browser compatibility and performance are a challenge. I would prefer computers playback in Flash and mobie devices default to HTML 5.
What exactly happens when I publish using both formats? Will the browser support be detect and launch and deliver the most compatible training?
I'm also curious of any best practices used by others.

Yes, that is exactly what happens. It first detects mobile devices then the swf as a fallback. Some people have had to add other user agents as this is what Captivate checks for:

Apple does not say, what will happen to the shared journals in iCloud. My iCloud webpage was empty after upgrading to iOS 8. Others have reported, that their Journals are still online, but there is no way to delete them. It would be safer to download the published journal while it is there and to move it to a different site, so you will stay in control.
You can save the HTML version of your journal to your computer using iTunes as described here: http://help.apple.com/iphoto/iphone/2.0/?handbuch#blnkaf3ef70a
Even if you do not publish the journal to another site, you will be able to view the downloaded files with Safari.

If I subscribe to Adobe Acrobat XI Pro, what happens if I stop subscribing after the first year? Does Acrobat turn into a lemon and stop working?

The same thing happens with Acrobat or any other Adobe subscription as you stopped paying your water bill, phone bill, or electricity. You are indeed cut off within a month. You could uninstall Acrobat and install the free Adobe Reader for much more limited functionality.

You can undo your permission changes. Probably the most relevant one is cookies. Try one or both of these methods:
(1) Page Info > Permissions tab
While viewing a page on the site:
* right-click and choose View Page Info > Permissions
* Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Permissions
(2) about:permissions
In a new tab, type or paste '''about:permissions''' and press Enter. Allow a few moments for the list on the left to populate, as this information needs to be extracted from a database.
Then type or paste ''rcn''' in the search box above the list to filter it to the most relevant domains. When you highlight a domain, you can adjust its permissions in the right pane.

What happens to iweb-built site when I upgrade from Leopard (10.5.8) to Snow Leopard (10.6.3), and subsequently upgrade to 10.6.8 or even 10.7? Will fonts stay the same? Will layout change? Or anything else change? Thanks

What happens to iweb-build site when I upgrade from Leopard (10.5.8) to Snow Leopard (10.6.3) and subsequently update that to 10.6.8 or even to 10.7? Evidently iweb has been discontinued. I have version 3.0.3 of iweb now but understand that there's been an update for OS 10.6 so same question goes for this update.
Will fonts change? Will layout change? Will widgets still work? Links? Will Google Analytics PlugIn still work?
(Since MobileMe is disappearing, I now save iweb site to local folder on my computer, then upload it to GoDaddy using Cyberduck. I run Google Analytics plug in on folder before its uploaded.)
My computer, MacBook Pro came with iweb, which has been updated to 3.0.3. Since iweb is discontinued, will upgrade of operating system just ignore iweb so that iweb will run the same as before? Or will it wipe it out? Or change how it currently works (questions above).

As you now know iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
◼ Password protection
◼ Blog and photo comments
◼ Blog search
◼ Hit counter
◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
Currently if the site is published directly from iWeb to the 3rd party server the RSS feed and slideshow subscription features will work. However, if the site is first published to a folder on the hard drive and then uploaded to the sever with a 3rd party FTP client those two features will be broken.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows. Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.

However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone. Reader doesn’t create pdf files. You can use Acrobat (ask in that forum) to create pdfs. You can subscribe to the Adobe PDF Pack which has a create pdf functionality (please ask in that forum), or you can use a third party utility such as ghostscript, cutepdf, or Microsoft’s own PDF creation capability. For third party pdf creation you will need to ask in a forum dedicated to that software as fellow users of Reader are unlikely to have the knowledge to help.

The Publish-Subscribe Notification latency in OCI is 5 seconds

I have an OCI application where I register a callback to receive publish-subscribe notifications from an Oracle queue.
The problem that I have is that I am receiving messages every 5 seconds intervals (the callback is called every 5 seconds if there are messages in the queue).
It looks like that there is a process that is monitoring the database queue every 5 seconds. Is there a way to change that behavior?.
I am getting the same behavior in Windows and Linux systems.

What happens if I delete a site in iweb? site still on the web? system?

B/c of my various issues i'm having since upgrading iweb, I created two test sites on iweb09. I was able to upload them to the web and to a folder.
I deleted both. Later, I created another test site with the same name (site 2). I noticed this one was acting weird.
I'm wondering what happens to the sites after they are deleted.
1. Are they available on the web?
2. Are they somewhere else on my system that I should make sure to delete?

Deleting sites inside iweb does not have any effect on what has been published on a server or to a folder on your local drive. It just changes what is in iWeb's domain file.

What happened to the createPDF mobile app.

I can't find it in the app store anymore and links to it on the adobe website lead nowhere. Has this been discontinued? Any alternatives available?

Never got a response so I bought Office Suite Pro 6 from the Google Play store. It goes on sale every now and then. Picked it up for 99 cents. Has in-app converion of word to pdf (ie, not cloud based). Works fine and pretty good Office app too. Hope this helps.

I have the same question. I was fixing to buy it but for some reason the App store says its not available in the US. Anyone else have a response?

XControl publish subscribe?

Hi all
I'm trying to implement a publish subscribe messaging pattern using XControls and LVOOP.
I have various XControls which represent different views of the state of an object.
I want all my XControl (clients) to be updated when the object (publisher) changes its state.
I've achieved this sort of functionality before using VI's running in sub-panels that wait on a user event created by the publisher.
I gather dynamic events are not available with XControls, so have tried to create a list of XControl clients that could be notified by a XControl method call.
I've found a way of notifying individual clients by creating a method that fires the Display State ability but really want to manage all the XControls as a collection.
An array can't seem to store references for the XControls as each is a different type.
I've also tried using a Data Value Reference for each XControl reference hoping that this generic type could be stored in an array but no joy.
The only way I've found is for the main vi to register for the publisher user event and then call the notification method of each XControl explicitly. This messes up the main vi and is not an elegant solution.
Does anyone know a way of achieving my desired functionality?

I have attached a little sample of what I thought might be nice.
I am building a P&I diagram out of DSC elements.
The valve will ultimatly get more properties like OPC tags, names etc.
I thought to attach the pipes to it so they get automatically activated, when the valve turns on.
But I guess that would require some extra programming anyway because there will be two endpoints on the sides of the pipe to control a flow.
Casting to more generic, even only a control, is obviously not possible.
Hierarchy for Xctrl is also not provided, no inheritence.
Is there any another way to have a class with a Control style FP ?
I am still at the beginning of the project so I have more options to think of......

Accessing what has been published - On Delivery Architecture

Hi All,
I was wondering if there is any way of getting access to what has been published on the content delivery machine when a template executes on delivery.
I want to be able to interrogate the latest items, based upon publish date; think of the requirement as "Show latest n" of a certain article. I would want to query n of that article, published date descending and return n to the user.
When I look inside my FLEXFAMILY_C_PUBLISH, there is no data there.
In fact, I cannot see any date in any of the PUB* folders; PUBMESSAGE, PUBSESSION,PUBTARGET etc.
I am testing a JSK --> JSK publish locally. Not sure if that is part of the issue.

So, I get three events served to me. What I want to ask is: Are these good stages to hook into and should I be able to get the published assets at these stages?
I ask because theres nothing in the tables, even when running a Publish. Yet my listener fires, telling me the publish is happening.

Asynchronous Publish Subscribe with Session.Client_Acknowledge

Is it possible to do Asynchronous Publish Subscribe with Session.Client_Acknowledge in JMS? If no, then is there any way to acknowledge each message in an Asynchronous Publish Subscribe application?
Any code samples will be helpful..

CLIENT_ACKNOWLEDGE does work in asynchronous mode.
I am using Sonic MQ. The sending session is created with CLIENT_ACKNOWLEDGE, in my onMessage(), I am testing the acknowledgement as:

Since the condition is never true, the message is never acknowledged by the receiver and stays in the queue all the time.
The confusing point: If you don't call the recover() function and your receiver is running, there would be no more messages to consume. As for SonicMQ, refreshing the Explorer will also show the number of messages in the queue is 0. However, if you Ctrl-C your receiver or call the sendsession.recover(), then you'll find out that the messsages are still in the queue by running the receiving program again or refreshing the queue.
However, the behavior of this may be vendor-dependent. I am just happy that Sonic MQ is doing what I expect.
