What happened to relative scaling?

I have had to go back to Indesign CS4 because CS5 doesn't let me click to specify a centre point for scaling objects or images without holding options (which brings up a dialog). Is this a bug or is there something I'm missing?

Personally I preferred the CS4 way of scaling, it takes longer in CS5.
To click on a part of an image and scale from that point is quick and easy.
To click and drag the scale point to where you want to scale and then scale is a pain for these reasons:
1. It's slower
2. You have to find which corner the scale point is at to move it.
3. Moving the scale point is fiddly, if you miss it the image scales in the direction you click and drag
Alt clicking brings up a dialog box which adds another thing to do which is slower.
I noticed Illustrator CS5 still has relative scaling.
If anyone from Adobe reads this, please bring it back to InDesign.

In my experience, half of the time I need it off and half of the time I need it on. Based on that I assume if it was on by default a lot of other users won't believe it and will whine.
There are many cases where scaling of the strokes and effects is not good. For example, designing a web page with a lot of frames and buttons with stroke and drop shadow. One of the most convenient way to resize each of these elements is using the black pointer with the bounding box, but it is considered scaling and each of these frames and buttons will become with different weight strokes and shadows which is not good.
Even if you have a straight horizontal line and you resize it with the black pointer to make it longer this will increase its stroke weight, which most people will not expect.

If you check the box 'cancel requisition' when you cancel the PO, the req is cancelled, else the req is not cancelled and should become available again in the autocreate pool.

  • What happens to the conversation when you delete or move a message?

I've always been a bit unclear what happens to other message in a thread/conversation when you delete or move the current message you are reading.
Therre are 3 relevant view settings it seems:
    Organize by conversation (turned on).
Display selected message only (not selected - why would one want to select this if organizing by conversation? Is there a use for that?)
Show/Hide related messages (turned on so I can see replies I sent in the conversation).
If I want to move the current message I'm reading, it seems to move the entire conversation to the target folder. But that's not what I want to do.
Yet if I delete the current message I think it only deletes that one message.
I'm a bit confused about how to think of this. Sometimes I see messages show up under "related messages" that are a year old that I thought I long deleted.
Any easy way of thinking about how this is all working?

  • What happened to the sidebar view in iTunes 12.0?

What happened to the sidebar view in iTunes 12.0?

"Switch to Songs view.  Everything will be much clearer"
I have no use for Songs view.  I always use Albums view (personal preference  - I think of my library as a collection of albums, not of songs), but never had any problem at all with the use of the top-left icons in iTunes 12.  Indeed, I much prefer the iTunes 12 version of the sidebar - ironically, for the reason that some seem to object to it: it doesn't clutter up a standardized listing of my library content with device-related information, and does not change if I connect an iDevice.  In general, the only interaction I need at the device level is the Eject function - all content syncing is controlled through playlists associated with each device I use (which, of course, are visible and can be modified whether a device is connected or not).  I only need to see the details of a device on the rare occasions I want to make a change to its behavior with respect to synchronization.

  • Installing Windows XP on macbook pro - what happens to your mac afterwards?

    Hello,
First time mac user, and I miss windows for it's wide girth of video games, so I am thinking to install windows xp with boot camp assistant.
What happens to your mac afterwards? Does it run as perfectly smooth as before? Does it get slower? Does it develop weird glitches? Will it crash and freeze? If you don't like it, can you restore your computer to how it was before?
And if you download a video game torrent that has a virus even if you scanned it with anti-virus software through windows, and the virus infects your mac, does it only affect the windows partition or does it affect your entire mac?
    Thanks,

    galacticdog wrote:
Would formatting the partitions differently (where so the windows partition cannot even see the mac partition) prevent drive erasure?
Not really. Under normal circumstances, neither OS X or Windows would let you erase or format the startup drive, but a lot of effort goes into crafting Windows malware to subvert even its most basic protections. If the malware is sufficiently crafty, it could conceivably attack the low level formatting that defines the partition scheme of the drive, bypassing any attempts to hide a partition.
Note that this would be possible with OS X as well, but malware has to get past the defenses of any OS before it can do anything so fundamental. Both OS X & Windows 7 (if not the earlier versions) get high marks for security. It is just that the risk of this happening is greater with Windows because of the sheer volume & diversity of attacks focused on that OS.
That's why it is so important to have effective, up-to-date anti-virus software when running Windows. It isn't so much that any malware could do this today. The concern is that some clever new type of attack could appear & do this, perhaps as a byproduct of trying to take control of the machine & hide code or data where there would normally be no trace of it.
Thanks peeps! I just got a 500 GB harddrive and I'm trying to figure out how best to partition it as a web designer so I can safely use windows.
As you probably know, Boot Camp Assistant is designed to easily handle the necessary formatting chores to set the drive up for dual booting, & there is no reason not to use it. I'm not by any means an expert on Windows & I don't know how much design work you plan on doing on the Windows side, so I can't really suggest appropriate sizes for the two partitions, other than to emphasize the need to leave enough room on the Windows partition for the anti-virus software.
Also, on a related topic, do not forget that you need to back up at least all your user-created files for both OS's, & that this should be done on an entirely separate drive that can physically be disconnected from your Mac for the best insurance against any misfortune, including but not limited to successful malware attacks.

  • What happens when the multiply effect is applied to both the object and the graphic within?

    Hi everyone,
I could really use some help with this...
I'm getting a booklet ready to be printed. Originally, half of the pages were to be printed on paper with a (physical) colour. For budget reasons however, I've now decided to print the paper colour, and have the content of the pages overprinted on the tint in the background, which I've applied to the pages in the background of an additional master page.
When I set the objects to multiply, they blend with the background colour, which is the effect I'm looking for, as there would be no 'paper white' on the pages that I want to appear as though printed on coloured paper.
There's something confusing me though; you can also set the graphic within the object frame to multiply. This makes the graphic appear darker, which I don't really understand, since there is no extra colour within the graphic that accounts for this. I've looked at the output in the resulting pdf, and it looks like it's not just an on-screen effect, but the extra amount of (in this case) yellow would also be visible in the printed result.
Does anyone have an explanation for this? Please see the graphic for a visual example.
    Thanks in advance, kind regards
    Robbin

    Hi.
Yes. There is a heartbeat mechanism between all cluster members so they detect when a
member has left the cluster. The primary server recognizes when it's secondary server
has failed, and then proceeds to search for another member of the cluster to make as
              it's new secondary.

  • What happens when the Browser is Closed?

    Hi,
Does anyone know for sure what happens to your CF template that is running on  the CF server when the browser is closed by the user.  Does the CFML continue to  be processed or is the template aborted?
Suppose the user hit's submit to  a long running process (relatively) and the user closes the browser.  Does your  code keep running?  Or does CF abort the process?
This seems to be a  tricky question as I've posed it indirectly for an e-commerce related question  involving CFHTTP (which may be different).
    Thanks,
    hefterr

The code will keep running, CF has no concept whatsoever of the fact the browser has closed.

  • AGAIN: What happened to "Ask me about every cookie?"

I have to ask this question AGAIN, because I'm not getting an answer, and it's disturbing because it relates to grave security issues. (and I forgot to record the URL of the first post, even though I did save the page itself), and when I search for my username on the forum, I'm informed that there are no results in English, AND, since you provide no image upload for this question, I'll have to do it in a reply (which will not BE a reply).
First post, which nobody is answering:
One "solution" says to open "tasks" menu. The IS no "tasks" menu. There is no "preferences" menu, either, only "options." Under "options," there are only two possible sub-menus that are supposed to be of help here, "privacy" and "security," but neither now offers what USED to be available: "Ask me about every cookie." This is really frustrating and angering me because these pervasive, invasive, and destructive cookies cause irreparable harm (short of system reformat) to my operating system by allowing transparent access to my system by unauthorized domains. What happened to "Ask me about every cookie?" How am I supposed to limit and control cookies now? Currently, I have only one option: Review daily the HUNDREDS of cookies and manually delete the unwelcome newcomers, and back up the cookie list to the benefit of newly added WANTED cookies. If I let this go a few days, I have to delete the entire cookie cache and restore the list from backup. Why am I no longer afforded the protection of cookie setting approval? How is this removal of control improving my security in light of no provision of an added interface towards this end? I abandoned Internet Explorer for a VERY good reason (THIS one!), and now it looks like Firefox has become equally useless in this regard, and that I have absolutely no motivation whatsoever to use Firefox anymore. I might as well just go back to Internet Explorer, especially seeing as how I can no longer find Firefox Live Chat through your help options so I can "talk" to a live human.
    [Edit]
What? Has nobody else noticed that their cookie cache is now filling up with garbage and threats? How do I get Firefox to ask me to vet every cookie again? Why have "they" decided to make Firefox an insecure browser? The way it's configured now, I have to examine every single NOW-UNAUTHORIZED cookie on a daily basis, and this makes the job MUCH, much harder, because a lot of required/friendly cookies have abstrusely arcane names, and when I mistakenly delete them, I screw up my browsing/login experience.

  • Develop presets: after preset "updated" what happens to all existing references?

Testing the develop preset "Update with current settings" I've noticed that the existing images referencing the updated preset do not change. If you click the associated history steps before/after then the image updates.
Is this "correct" or is this a bug? If it is correct, what is the point of "Update with current settings"?
Related question: what happens to images referencing a preset that one deletes in the preset pane?

When a preset is created, it stores the current level of the chosen parameters at the time of creation; in the example below, the preset which will be named CurrentPreset1 will store the current levels applied to the selected photo at the time the preset was created, and in this case will only store values corresponding to Color, Lens Corrections, and Process version.
To update the values recorded in a preset, the various levels must be changed on the currently selected photo and then the "Update with current settings" must be selected on the preset to update. The "Update with current settings" therefore updates the preset itself with new values corresponding to the values set in the current photo and has nothing to do with how it was applied to photos in the past. A preset is not related in any way to photos on which it is applied; a preset simply applies the set values recorded in the preset on the selected photo as if these same values would be manually entered for the selected photo.

  • What happened to Change Layer Content?

This question is related to Photoshop Elements 10.
Photoshop Elements 5.0 had the command "Change Layer Content" under the "Layers" menu. It would allow me to select from solid colors, gradients and patterns in shapes (rectangles, circles, or pre-made shapes. I used it a lot but I don't see it in this new version of Photoshop! What happened to that command? Is there some new command to replace it that I just don't see because I am really having a difficult time locating it!

I have some actions i made for elements to do that if your interested.
You can do it without actions, but it's far from convenient.

  • 2880 size workaround, what happened?

I developed a large flash application to handle production
planning for a large printing company.
The movie needed to span 6 wide x 2 tall, 19" LCD screens. To
get around the 2880x2880 size limitation, I simply scaled the whole
flash movie in the HTML code up to over 8,000 pixels and made the
size of my application elements very small to compensate for the
    scaling.
Here is an example of the HTML code that worked (with the
.swf name changed to something generic)

    width="8185" quality="best" play="true">
    </object>
I am using flash player 7.0.19.0, and it works beautifully.
However, I was looking to upgrade to the new player and did
some testing beforehand. With Flash Player 8+ and specifically
Flash Player 9, the movie will scale, but the actual viewable
contents cuts off around 4,250 pixels, with just white space
    stretching to 8,185 pixels.
Why was this changed? I cannot upgrade to the new player,
with the new security features, action script support, etc if this
    problem is not resolved.
Can someone explain why this might be happening in the newer
players and not the older ones?
    thanks

You were lucky to get away with it the first time. Generally
any image above 2880 will cause
problems and regardless whether you scale it down , it
original size still remain 8000 so this
is exactly what happened. Perhaps the player 8 or 9 is less
tolerant and the solution can't apply.
It is natural to have larger image, I have been doing
panoramic for years and good quality one
never go below 5000 pixels. In such case I will cut that
image in 5, place it in movie clip,
duplicate the frames and place each copy following each other
    making one long stripe.
Using such methods you allowed to have much larger clips. I
    go sometimes beyond 10.000 pixels
with no problems. Perhaps you could implement something like
    that ?

  • What is the relation between FetchSize and Range Size

    Hi
What is the relation between FetchSize ("in batches of" field) and Range Size in view object tuning section? What would happen if, for example, I set the fetch size to 10 and range size to 5?
    Ferez

    Timo,
From oracle’s documentation we learn that RangeSize attribute of the Iterator “controls the number of records ADFm requests from the BC layer simultaneously”
    RangeSize Tuning
This parameter controls the number of records ADFm requests from the BC layer
simultaneously. The default RangeSize is 25 records. Consider setting this value to
the number of records to be displayed in the UI simultaneously for the View Object so
that the number of round-trips between the model and BC layers is reduced to one.
This is configured in the Iterator attribute of the corresponding page's page
    definition XML.
and the purpose of FetchSize  is now clear for me but let me ask another question about VO’s rangeSize which you told is used when we use range paging. You mean that when we use range paging so the rangeSize of VO is used to fetch data from database and the FetchSize is ignored in this case? Please correct me if I am wrong.
