  • What happened to OS X Mountain Lion and why do I now have to have OS X Mavericks?

Has Mavericks really improved on OS X Mountain Lion? i Photo is now in my opinion awful, can't create own borders on photos or include text on photos anymore when using for home printing. Is it possible to uninstall Mavericks and go back to Mountain Lion and futther more install an earlier version of i Photo like 3 months back?

    Shawn4,
you don’t have to run Mavericks unless you use a Late 2013 MacBook Pro, which you apparently don’t.
If you made a backup of your Mountain Lion setup before installing Mavericks, you can just restore it from your backup.
If you didn’t make a backup of your Mountain Lion setup, you can back up your Mavericks setup, overwrite your Mavericks setup with a reïnstallation of Mountain Lion, and then selectively restore from your Mavericks backup the items which you would like to have under Mountain Lion.

  • What happened to iChat in mountain lion?

Anyone know where ichat went? I just upgraded and there is no ichat

    HI,
In Messages Menu > Preferences chose the Accounts icon
In the list on the left all your iChat type accounts (Screen Names and IDs) should be listed below the iMessages one.
Click on each in turn and check the "Enable this Account" box is ticked
(You can also check the Messages Menu > Accounts to see which accounts are logged in)
From there the setting in the General Settings will either have them in one List (Shown by using CMD + 1 keys together) as as separate Buddy lists revealed by using CMD and a number (1 though however many accounts there are) as seen in the Window Menu.
    I have 8 at present
    Uploaded with Skitch!
There are two ways to start an "iChat" type Video Chat
    1) The same way you did in iChat by:-
         a) Clicking on a Green Video icon in the Buddy List
         b) Clicking on a  Buddy to highlight and using the icons at the bottom of the Buddy list
         c) Clicking on a Buddy to highlight and then using the Buddies menu > Invite to Video Chat
         d) Right Clicking on a Buddy and and using the menu that pops up
    2) Choosing a Buddy from Buddies in the Blue Plus Icon in the Messages window (rather than Contacts for iMessages) then using the Video icon that replaces the Blue + icon.
Screen Sharing tends to need the Buddy List to be showing or Converting a Video chat as you might of done before.

  • What happened to screen magnification in lion 10.8?

What happened to screen magnification in lion 10.8..... Has the finger procedure changed?

You will find that in Accessibility preferences:

  • Why does my mouse make blank spaces on my screen as I move it?  It started happening after I downloaded Mountain Lion

Why does my mouse sometimes cause my screen to erase as I move it?  It started to happen after I downloaded Mountain Lion.

You could try booting into Safe Mode to see if it fixes the problem. To get out of Safe Mode, restart as usual.

  • HT201364 what is a os x mountain lion

what is a os x mountain lion

It is the previous major OS release to Mavericks. Despite the point designations, and that they are all called OS X, the first point number indicates a major OS release. The names went along with them pretty much "just because". Though it does help to keep them straight instead of only using the numbers.

  • What day in July is Mountain Lion included on MacBook Pro purchase?

What day in July is Mountain Lion included on Macbook Pro purchase?

There's no telling when a Mac with Mountain Lion pre-installed will hit the stores. It all depends on when the factory begins installing OS X 10.8 on the drives. The Mac's at the store aren't necessarily 'old' - maybe a month old at best - and it's just going to take some time for the factory to catch-up with the latest OS.
I don't see any reason - other than not having an Internet connection - to put off the purchase of a Mac until it has Mountain Lion on it. When I bought my MBP in March, it was manufactured in the fifth week of 2012 - February - and I had to do some Software Updates. OS X 10.8 is just another update which you can choose to install or not. If you bought any Mac after June 11th, it's a free update.
You can wait to make a purchase after the stores get machines with ML installed but I don't see the point.

I don't believe ML will upgrade on top of anything earlier then SL.  You might have to do a clean install.

  • Hi after upgrading to mountain lion my mail rules keep disappearing this has only happened since i installed mountain lion.

Hi after upgrading to mountain lion my mail rules keep disappearing???  this has only happened since i installed mountain lion.

I had Mountain Lion on two Macs. Mail rules were set up on a third Mac running Lion.  I migrated everything on the Lion Mac across to a new iMac running Mountain Lion so now I have Mail rules on a Mountain Lion Mac.  At least I should have. Several times a day the rules disappear.  I assume this is iCloud synching messing up.  I keep re-entring the rules but they vanish again and I'm getting tired of the game.
Large chunk of my Safari bookmarks bar also disappear at random intervals.  It seems that iCloud can handle two Mountain Lion Macs on the same Apple ID, but can't cope with three.

  • What has happened to 'select' in Mountain Lion?

I have two problems with selecting in Mountain Lion.
    1. I can no longer drag select on Mail and other rpograms. I have to do a cmd A and then delete in the trash, for instance. I used to beable to select all of the items with a mouse drag.
    2. Even when I do a cmd A, if I then right click to open, for instance, I find that it has selected the one item that is under the mouse pointer rather than all of the selected items.
Is there somewhere that I can put back these to the old way?
    David

I'm experiencing the same problem 1 in Mountain Lion's Mail, but not in other apps (tested the Finder and Contacts) where click+drag still works as it used to selecting adjacent items in the list.
It seems that in Mail the setting of verticalMotionCanBeginDrag has been changed to YES.
As for point 2 I can't confirm your report. I can open all selected items with right click.
    Best,
    Erne.

  • What has happened to snooze in mountain lion?

I know this might look trivial, but my life runs on alerts and reminders. In OS X 10.6 (Leopard) alerts would popup with an option to set the snooze for differnt time periods. This was very useful as I could dismiss certain reminders for hours, days or weeks. Mountain Lion seems to have lost this very functionality.
I've looked in settings, but can see no way to add this functionality back in. If it is possible can someone advise how to do it. If it's not possible, can Apple please look at adding it back in. All the snoose button needs is a little drop down with snooze delay options.
    Thanks

No there are no jokes here. This is just broken software.
One way to work around this stupid change would be to set a double reminder. Let's say I have the yearly service for my car scheduled 4 weeks from now. I could then add one reminder for the day before so I remember that tomorrow is the day. And I could add one reminder that reminds me the morning after to drive to the garage (to avoid remembering it on the high way to work).
So far so good. Now I have a double reminder.
When the first reminder pops up 4 weeks has gone with an infinite number of other reminders and iCal events in between. I have no idea at this point if I added a second reminder for the morning after. My memory is not that good unfortunately.
So at this point I have three choices.
    A) Hit snooze until I break down in a psychosis
    B) Click the Go away button hoping I will be reminded the next morning.
    C) Double click the **** notice and make sure in iCal.
None of this is of any Apple standard at all. It's rubbish.
If they decided that we should use multiple reminders they must of course show this information on the notice that pops up. Like this:
    Take the car to service
(Next reminder will be at 8 AM)
But they didn't include this either.
    Rubbish.

  • How does one see what tasks starts when on Mountain Lion?

I have had a beachball problem for a number of weeks now, and still can not figure out what is going wrong after four separate Support Desk people and one Genius Bar visit -- maybe you, my friends in the Apple Support Communities, can help decypher this.
    Symptoms:
Invariably, my MacBook Pro (MacBookPro8,2) with Mountain Lion (10.8.2)  -- after exactly one hourof work (59 minutes, 58 seconds and then...) suddenly goes into beachball mode.  No warning -- no new processes -- nothing but the beachball on the dialog I am working on.  Within the next minute, all dialogs are unresponsive and I have to hard reboot my computer.
What is surprising is that when the beachball happens and I restart the system, all of my cookies (e.g., my Facebook login cookie, my Google 2-factor) and other status bookmarks (e.g., where the video stops on iTunes) disappear.
And if I wish to prolong my computer time, I have to put the computer in Sleep Mode for about 5 minutes, come back and get an additional hour of work before the beachball returns.
Scarily, I have watched it happen - and tracked the Activity Monitor and see nothing that pops up at that time point.  No additional memory taken, no additional CPU -- nothing.
What is surprising is that when the beachball happens and I restart the system, all of my cookies (e.g., my Facebook login cookie, my Google 2-factor) and other status bookmarks (e.g., where the video stops on iTunes) disappear.
Additionally,  when I boot in Safe mode - my 16G of RAM is almost totally taken up (15.1Gs) by nothing.  Simply that 15.1Gs are "wired".  The largest process is the mds - and that is only 500M.
    Prior Efforts:
I have inspected the disk with Disk Utility, done both the Internet Hardware check (since my Recovery partition did not have it) and at the Genius Bar (with their super-special hardware check) and no problems.  I have removed Launch Agents and Launch Daemons.  I have removed startup items and purged the drive.
I keep being told I will have to erase and reinstall, but I think there is something much simplier here: some software that is being triggered to do something one hour after awaking from sleep.
I saw some people suggest it could be f.lux, but I have turned it off and it still happens.  Additionally, one of my people suggested it was the Time Machine, so I turned it off -- and it still happened.
Any ideas what could be the problem?

Uninstall CleanMyMac and reinstall the OS. You've likely "cleaned" something you should not have.
If CleanMyMac removes uneeded languages from applications, reinstall the applications. Some do not function well when you remove them.
You also have a ton of other third-party stuff which could be causing the problem.
