What happened to sound on iPod?

My iPod has worked perfectly fine, but tonight when I tried to play my music through my speakers, there's no sound. It selects the piece of music I want, but doesn't advance when I hit the play button. I tried it also on my portable speakers, just to check, but the same thing happens. Any ideas?

Have you tried resetting it? That typically clears things like this up.
To do that:
Toggle the Hold switch on and off, then
Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons at the same time until the Apple logo appears.
When it restarts, see if the problem persists.

How do I do that?
You will not be able. A PC cannot read a Mac formatted iPod. Upon plugging the iPod in, you will be asked to reformat the iPod for Windows. After doing so, you will be able to sync it with your PC, but reformatting or restoring the iPod will wipe all content from the iPod and set it back to its original default settings.
However, after doing so, you can set it up to "manually manage music and videos" by enabling this option from your iPod's Summary tab. This will allow you to sync content to the iPod from multiple computers. And since it will be formatted for a PC as FAT32, it is cabable of being read and written to by Macs as well. These defects on the screen are clearly on the inside of the housing on the LCD itself. What makes me wonder are the diagonal lines that are so symmetrical.
I'm assuming it could be three things that could have caused this, because it wasn't like this a week ago:
1. I did buff it using Brasso (not the first time)
2. Manufactures Defect
3. I took it to the beach, no where near the water though, just set it on a table between two chairs
I always keep it in its sleeve when I'm not using it. I'm a perfectionist and this is driving me nuts!

I was wondering what exactly is happening when I have this code:

does the mp3 file get downloaded?
     -If yes
          -where does it get downloaded to? Heap? Cache? or what do you call it
          -is there a way to stop or control the loading?
          -and can it be accesed(deleted) manually? is there a destructor?
               -if possible
                    -How would you delete the memory?
               -if not
                    -is there a way to do it with different code?
     -if not
         - at what point does it get downloaded? assuming the code continues like this:

           soundChannel = sound.play();
I know there are many question, but they all depend on each other and i couldn't think of a easier way to ask.

What happened to songs on ipod ?

I just got my ipod downloaded apple store and put songs on my ipod, but had over 96 songs on that my brother had put on for me from his computer. Now they are gone?

I have no idea what that means, but if those 96 songs on your iPod were not in your own iTunes library and you synced your iPod, then they were deleted.
If there are songs on your iPod that are not in your library, then whenever you sync it, they are deleted from the iPod and replaced with whatever is currently in your iTunes.

I still have my iPhone 3 and decided to update to the new operating system today. No I have the new version of iTunes - and no iPod on my phone. How do I get my music onto my phone?? Please help.

Same way as always.
You must use itunes to put music on the iphone.
Sync is just as you did before.
Open itunes, connect iphone, select what you want, sync.
Not sure I understand. Do everything just as you did before. Are you having a problem doing this? What is that problem?

What happened to my old iPod in my device list?

My iPod was stolen on October 22, and after a long month and a half of procrastination, my friend cleared it off and i bought it from home. Both my old and purchased from friend one were 32gb ipod touch 4th generations. While the theft wouldn't really be able to do much with an ipod he couldn't get into, I didn't really want to erase it (which was impossible because it wasn't connected to the internet) until I bought the one from my friend. I restored the one I bought with all the apps and music I had before, but when I go into my devices listed under my Apple ID, then only one that shows up is the one I got from my friend. I was going to ask Apple if they could somehow erase the stolen one for me, but I can't do that without it being my product. This also means I can't access the serial number, which I do have around the house somewhere, but it will be hard to find. Does anyone think it's worth going through the trouble to get them to erase it, and if so, how would I go about doing so?

I did that to ge all my stuff back, but I guess the fact that I restored it onto the new one is effectively making the new one the old one.

I just bought a new 30 gig iPod and was distressed to find my iTrip accessory (from my old 20 gig iPod) to broadcast to an FM channel did not adapt to the new iPod. What happened to may favorite IpOD feature? Will I no longer be able to listen to my ipod in mr car or hotel room ??!!

There is a new iTrip. It ***** that they didn't make it forward compatible, but they do have a new one that plugs in at the bottom and has a lot of different features. You don't have to load in "Music Tracks" to change the station, there is an LED screen and a switch. I loved mine before it got stolen at work by someone right before they left the company. Sounds like one unit had iOS 5, the other had iOS 4. Unfortunately it happens that some units are shipped from the factory at different times with different Operatin Systems installed.

Sound does not come out of iPod but can hear it with ear phones. What happened

CCannot get sound from iPod except from earphones. What has happened?

- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
- Check also Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing. Make sure that the sound balance is not set all the way to "R".
- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

Hi Sarah,
It sounds like the songs have either not yet synced over to the iPhone, or something went wrong when attempting to sync to the iPhone. My recommendation is to uncheck the "Sync Music" checkbox.
Once you have done that, recheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes once more. This will instruct iTunes to completely remove all music from your iPhone, and then copy the files once more. If you have a large amount of music, this initial sync may take a while.

What happened to my computer's ability to play sound when I updated to OSX 10.8.2? I had a hard time updating from 10.8 to 10.8.2 and now that I have my sound is gone and not adjustable.

I have a 13" Macbook Pro running OSX 10.8 and when I tried to update to 10.8.1 through the Mac App store it didn't acknowledge that there was an update available so I went to the apple website and manually downloaded the update. When I attempted to update it that way the installer said that my computer did not meet the requirements of the update. That was strange as it was already running 10.8.
So I called apple care and then gave me instructions to restart my computer holding option+command+R and redownload Mountain Lion and after it finally finished, it installed but now I just noticed that my sound icon on the menu bar is greyed out and in system preferences I cannot adjust the sound output. I don't understand what happened, all I wanted to do was update my OS. If anyone has any solutions I'm open. I'm also going to set up a genius bar appointment.
