What happened to the Apple open source software page?

I have used a lot of the open source software that Apple listed on their website. The address used to be:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/unix_open_source/
But that just directs to a cheesy downloads page with links to app store, etc.
Does anybody know what happend to this part of the Apple web site? Is it just moved and I'm too dumb to find it? I've tried to search these forums, and the googles, but nothing coherant comes through!

This is the developer page though, and doesn't contain the wealth of applications that were hosted (and kept up to date). These included GIMP, carbon emacs, etc.
I realize many of these are available from macports, or even by building from the source in many cases, but some of these programs seem to have been only hosted and updated from this page.

  • What happens when the Apple Configurator Certs Expire?

So I was looking at some iPads I deployed sometime ago using Apple Configurator.  Last summer I brough them all in (about 220 units,) wiped them, used configurator to install iOS 5.1, all supervised, and named according to the Teacher they were given out to.  Haven't seen the iPads since.  Last few weeks I've had a few come back with misc problems and I noticed within the Supervision Profile the "Signing Certificate" and "Certificate" for Apple Configurator both expire on August 13, 2013.  What will happen on/after August 13, 2013 with these units?

From another site, I got a tip that if you use Keychain Access, double click on the AppleConfigurator (MAC address of machine) entry (it'll have a red X badge & the date it expired), open up the Trust disclosure triangle and set "When using this certificate"t o Always Trust. The red X badge changes to a blue + badge.

  • Retina or no? What happens after the apple care expires

I am thinking of getting a pro.  Now ideally I'd want to have the retina. But since the memory and the SSD are soldered, what will happen if they break?  Especially after 3 years?  Do we have to pay for the whole motherboard?  I asked ppl in the store but they didn't know.  Memory might not go bad but I am not sure about the SSD after 3 years. I don't want to end up paying the whole thing except the screen after 3 years.

Sorry, I don't have those answers. Just what are you looking for anyway? Apple's open source repository, such as it is, is pretty much ignored by everyone. Apparently nobody even bothered to look for things like the old "goto fail" bug that sat there in the open for years and essentially disabled all certificate checking on Macs and iOS. I have seen a few people who actually tried to compile something from it. They usually get frustrated pretty quickly. Many of those projects have dependencies on code that isn't public. In theory, that is what you would want to do if you actually wanted to modify some open source product included in OS X so you could get the exact same build settings. In practice, that is virtually impossible. If you want real open source, you aren't going to find it at Apple. And why do you care about Objective-C anyway? Apple just killed it with Swift. It is a dead-end language.
I'm interested in the Objective-C source code because I was wondering if there might be a way to make something better than today's Objective-C++ with today's C++ (C++11/14/1z, etc., …) in order to fix today's Objective-C++.  I was thinking of calling the project 'Objective-C++ Re:coded' or something like that.  Besides, I'm curious about how Objective-C works and wanted to save it from the dustbin.  If this pans out, somebody might be able to create a version of Swift written in its results!

  • What happened to the ArchWiki?

Hi All. What happened to the old style ArchWiki main page? Previously it was very easy to find crucial articles especially for the new users but also for me. Now the main content is hidden among other minor articles and quite difficult to find. Maybe I'll get used to it but at the moment i don't like this...

Hmm looks like the main page of the wiki has recently been updated.  I have to say I like the previous version more but I may be bias as I am used to has straight forward the old main page was.  Maybe this is an improvement over the old?
I guess you can truly only know if this is better or not by the number of questions asked on the forums which have a straight forward wiki solution.  With that said only time will show how useful this change will be.

  • New Project for Oracle Open Source Projects Page

Another SQL*Plus clone but this one is written in pure java, feel free to add it to the Oracle Open Source Projects page:
SQL*More is a tool to execute commands against SQL databases in the same vein as SQL*Plus for Oracle. Key features are platform independence, database independence, a self-contained networking stack, a terminal friendly CLI implementation, and macro-like commands.

Happy to, but we'll need your project URL.

  • What do you think open source software is missing?

What do you think open source software is missing? Can be any general gripe, missing tools, missing support, etc.
I'm waiting for a skype replacement with a windows and linux client. I only use the video and voice functionality.

    @ ngoonee
[I don't consider it OT, so I write it here - hope that OP doesn't mind]
Wrt Paul Davis, he seems to get $4-5k/month now so things are looking up a bit for him. Who's to blame if the community isn't able to come up with enough support for it's prime members? Also, there are parts of the world where you can live rather comfortably on $4k/month. You just have to beware of the dragons ;-)
Open Source is a lot like socialism: work as hard as you can, get as much as you need. In theory, it could work: some would eat 2x the avg but work 5x the avg while others would be the other way round. In practise ... People are lazy, people are evil.
Why should they pay for sth if they don't have to? Why should they be interested in GNU / Linux? Because it's free? Hey, I've got tons of "free" apps, piracy ahoy! (Or should I say "arrrrr")
Maybe that's the reason many 'big names' went to work for Microsoft: their dignity didn't allow them to beg for support.

  • What happens to the open item in bsid table when it is cleared

    hi experts,
i have a doubt about open and cleared items of accounting documents. as we know open items of customers are stored in bsid and cleared ones in bsad. For suupose, an open item is closed ina particular period then what happened to the entry in bsid and bsad table. an entry regarding is stored in bsad (cleared),and what happens to the entry in bsid, still it will be there or removed from it.

    Hi,
When ever we clear the document(Complete payment) that document will be moved to BSAD table. Other wise it will remain in BSID.
If u are making partial payment then all the partial payment documents along with original document will be stored in BSID till u made the complete payment for that invoice.
Assumption is u have to give all partial payment documents made for particular invoice item while u are making complete payment in F-28 transaction. So that these partail payment documents will also be cleared while making complete payment and moved to BSAD table.
This trasaction can be used for both partial and complete payments.
Irrespective of complete or partial payments made all the documents will remain stored in BKPF and BSEG tables.
BSID and BSAD are index tables to address performance issues with BKPF and BSEG tables.
So all open and cleared documents will be there in BKPF and BSEG tables.
All cleared documents will be there in BSAD table.
Alll open documents will be there in BSID table.
    Hope it is clear.
    Thanks,
    Vinod.

  • What's the Best Open Source DB for use with Kodo?

    Hi everyone,
In terms of ease of setup and use, tools to view info in the database, and least difficulty in
running with Kodo, what is the best open source database to use? I'm use to using Oracle and
SQLPlus. I need to use an open source DB for a learning environment, and I'd like your informed
    opinion.
    Thanks,
    David Ezzio

I have been using postgresql 7.1 with Kodo for a while with mostly positive results, and currently
have it deployed with Kodo 2.2.3. I prefer it to mysql because its feature set is a little richer,
and supports transactions natively. My experience with mysql (without jdo - I haven't tried it with)
is good, but there were little things missing in mysql 3.x, e.g. the ability do do a join in a
    DELETE statement.
BTW, there are some severe problems somewhere in the 2.2.4 release with postgresql if you intend to
eventually deploy on it. It also apparently has some problems invoking postgresql's indices, making
it a little less than optimal. But as a learning environment, it's what I'd recommend.

Here is the rundown of the databases I have experience with:
MySQL: Fairly simple to install (especially if you run Debian Linux), but
configuration, especially adding users, can be a pain. A separate open
source project called "mysql-navigator" makes it fairly easy to do
simple queries, inserts, etc. In most of my tests it outperforms
PostgreSQL, but your mileage will vary. It has a sane CLI that supports
modern features like line history, etc (unlike the horrific SQLPlus).
PostgreSQL: People often say that it is a more "academically
correct" database than MySQL. I've also found it to be quite a bit
easier to set up. Their GUI (called "pgaccess") is simplistic, but does
most things you need. Has a CLI similiar to MySQL's.
HypersonicSQL: By far the easiest to set up (just drop the jar in your
CLASSPATH), but is java only, can be rather slow, and has no GUI tools
available that I know of (except various free vanilla-JDBC GUI tools).
We feel that Kodo works quite well with all these DBs. The MySQL JDBC
driver seems a bit less buggy than Postgres', but their transaction
support is very recent and not very well tested. If I had to pick one or
the other, I would probably go with MySQL.
