What happened to the data service recently?

I switched to Verizon last summer partially because the data service was so good.  I have an hour drive to work every morning, and I typically listen to internet radio through my phone for at least half the time.  With my previous carrier, the service became so bad that it became too frustrating to listen.  When I switched to Verizon, I had almost no disruptions when listening.  This great service continued until a few months ago.  Since then, the data service is terrible.  The station skips all the time, sounding like a CD with a scratch on it, and it just completely stops to catch up at least 10 times each morning... in 30 minutes!!  Just like the old carrier, it's becoming almost unusable!  What's going on?! Why is the service so bad now! Nothing has changed with my phone (no new phone anyway... I'm sure there have been updates, etc.) or my route, but the service is just aweful!! Please help!!

I drive from Brimfield, IL (61517) to Bloomington, IL (61704), primarily on Interstate 74.  It appears that I pass through the following zip codes: 61528, 61615, 61604, 61603, 61611, 61550, 61733, 61742, 61729, 61725, 61705, 61761, 61701.
I rarely make phone calls, but I can't recall experiencing any issues with them.
Somewhere on these forums, I did see mention of an update resetting the Global Data Roaming Access to "Deny data roaming access" and that switching the setting back to "Allow access for all trip" may help with data issues.  I made that change, but have not seen any noticable improvement.
Thanks for any assistance you may be able to provide.

  • What happens to the data in apps that you choose not to backup with iCloud?

    Hi,
I have a 64b iPad and a lot of the storage is used up with data stored inside apps. Some of these data stores are 10s of GB in size. Such as, I keep some videos on my iPad that I play with VLC player. When I upgraded the iPad to iOS5 and activated iCloud backup, it immediately told me there wasn't enough room to back up my iPad entirely. I turned off backing up certain apps, such as VLC.
What happens to these apps? Are they still backed up during regular syncs with your Mac?

when you plug into itunes you can backup to both locations (icloud and locally) just not a the same time. When you click on your phone in itunes you'll see this option
click icloud then sync (will backup to icloud when you sync)
    afterwords
click back to this computer and sync
keep in mind that if icloud has a 5GB backup limite unless you upgrade it
    10GB — $20/year
    25GB — $40/year
    50GB — $100/year
    edit: forgot to say
if you don't sync with itunes to the computer then whatever doesn't go to icloud is not backed up at all.

  • What happened to the Customer Service Survey???

I'm an Elite Rewards member (a.k.a. buy a lot of stuff at Best Buy). Recently I've been told numerous times that the reason I no longer get codes on my receipt to do a customer service survey is that Best Buy has changed to a system where you will email me a link for the survey. WRONG. You have all my contact info, the purchases show up in my rewards profile, but I have NEVER received and email for the survey. I know that these surveys are important to your staff. Either fix the system (you could put a survey link on the rewards page that we could enter with the customer service code for each purchase) or go back to the old way of having codes on the receipt. The current system is not helping you identify and retain your best employees. I want the best people there to help me when I spend my bucks at Best Buy. Without good people in the stores, we might as well order from Amazon.

Outsourcing, no training, poor resources and emulators, confusing plans, deals, and promotions.

  • What happened to the data on my cds???

I recently had to completely reinstall the operating system on my iMac. I have a few cdr's and cdrw's that had some backup files on them, all made in TextEdit. Now when I put one of these cd's in my Mac, I can't find any of the data on them. Even the name of the cd is gone. Can someone please help me recover these files?
By the way, I'm a new Mac user, so please use as clear terminology as possible if you have an answer for me. Thanks

You could try to insert your CD-RW into another computer to verify if it's empty or not.
I think--but it's just a personal opinion--that something went wrong during the burning operations. For instance, did you check your discs at the end of backup process?

  • What happened to the dates?

Like a lot of hobbyists I use this for home movies. The nice thing about previous iMovie versions is that the date when the footage was actually taken is easily found when you look at the clip info. Where is it in this version? The only date I can find is when the video was imported from the camera onto the computer. I just converted an iMovie HD project over to iMovie '09 and I can't find the footage dates. I had also changed all the clip names to correspond to the dates in iMovie HD and '09 reverted all the names back to "clip_n". Totally unhelpful.

I know that you can change the date and time, but the problem is that I don't know what they are unless I go back to iMovie HD and get the info on the clip. When I imported the footage from the camera, HD (and previous versions, by the way) automatically got the date the footage was shot from the camera. I have little kids so I keep a camcorder relatively handy in case they do something silly or new. So each clip is just a few minutes long. So on a two hour tape, I might have 3-6 months worth of video with just little things. I don't import every little episode onto my computer. I do it in chunks and sometimes the whole tape. So it's very handy to have iMovie get the date of the footage directly from the camera.
Like I said, I converted an HD project to '09 format. So if I imported directly from the tape, it MAY get it right. I don't know. Regardless, I think it's a bug to not convert the date as well when going from HD to '09.

  • What happened to the data detectors sdk?

I've been looking into creating and customizing the Mac OS data detectors, which I know still function, and I've found the system files for, but can't find any current information (in the last 5 years) about the once touted Data Detectors SDK, or how to work with them.  Anyone have any clues or info on the current status of this technology?

    Do we know why?
probably because orignal osx developers thought osx services is better than contextual menu. which they were wrong... very wrong.
Arent they still used in Mac Mail, iCal, and all over iOS?
yes, but it is not open to us... applescript users. you can give them feedback and ask for it.

  • In case of a DB crash what happens to the status of the Control File

When a DB is crashed will the Control file that exists in the OS also get corrupted, What happens to the Data Files , how to recover the Control files and Data Files , the DB in case there isn't any Backup media or any Dump available on the DB.

The only one way to recover a database is to be in archivelog mode.
And if I said about recover stricto sensu, that's because even in noarchivelog mode we need to use the command recover until cancel before an open with resetlogs option, even if we haven't any redo/archive logs. That fake a recover, this is what we say a mimic recover. Which is not a recover stricto sensu like it can be the case with archivelog mode.

  • What Happens To App Data With A Broken/Lost Pre?

What happens to the data in my applications, like if I had a Quicken type app and I had to Full Erase or got a replacement Pre? I'm guessing that the app would re-download and all my data would be gone.
Can anyone give me some insight as to what happens to app data when your loose or have to erase a WebOS device. And if I'm correct is there anyone working on a solution to backup app data?

If you re-download the apps under a different ID, you'll lose all saved data.

  • What happens to encrypted data when the server is destroyed?

Backups to tape are encrypted with a certificate.
But what happens if the backup server is destroyed? Do I lose all the backup data on those tapes?
Can I backup the certificate or is it specific to that specific DPM server?
In the case of a catastrophic datacenter failure, where everything is lost except the tapes and the certificate, what is the process for recovering the encrypted data?

You can absolutely backup the certificates used for DPM encryption and you should store those somewhere safe (for example, burn to CD and put in a fireproof safe offsite somewhere secure in an encrypted file).
This section of TechNet describes the process: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj628058.aspx
If you had to recreate a DPM server to read the tapes then you'd need to the certificates in the correct certificate store on the DPM server, in addition you'd need to ensure you had the certificates for the certificate chain, if there is one, in the correct
    locations in the cert store.
Once a cert expires, do not delete it from the DPM until all the tapes that have used that cert are no longer in use or have been overwritten.
The data would need to be imported through the recovery section in DPM but you'd be able to read and recover the data if the certs were present. No cert = no recovery.

  • What happened to the option to see all your purchased movies alphabetically?  I can only see recent purchases and then I have to look by movie type.  With over 500 movies purchased this is a huge pain.

What happened to the option to see all your purchased movies alphabetically?  I can only see recent purchases and then I have to look by movie type.  With over 500 movies purchased, this is a huge pain.  For instance the movie Airport 77 is classified as Drama not action?  But it is action?  I have to look at both types to find the film.  I will stop buying films via AppleTV if this is the way it is going to stay.  I am not searching for films in this crazy manner.

Same issue here. Might have to do with size of library. I too have over 300 purchased movies. "ALL PURCHASED" folder disappeared yesterday on all my AppleTV's. My son only has 20+ purchased movies and his still shows "ALL" folder. However, I had him log in under my account and "ALL" folder is missing??? I hope Apple gets this resolved quickly. I too do not want to flip through various Genres looking for movies.

  • What will happen to the data block after data offloading?

    HI All,
Since offloading can filter out the necessary information such as unnecessary columns and rows before they are passed to the database, I want to know what will happen to the data block? Will some new blocks be built at this time, which only contains the useful information?
    Best regards,
    Leon

    Andy Klock wrote:
The statement seems to imply that Exadata has the ability to strip out columns from a block, but a block is a block is a block. Offloading is remarkable at filtering out data in the storage layer that ultimately is not needed but if you only need one row in a block that has 100 rows in it, you still get the whole block (and all 100 rows) to be processed by Oracle. The columns portion of the statement is when HCC is used for a table allowing only the blocks containing the column data required for the query, and thus if a block has 1000 column values in it, it will pass all 1000 column values to the instance to be processed. These assertions are incorrect.
Blocks sent to the database grid as a result of a Smart Scan contain only the necessary columns and rows for the db grid to do its processing (after filter restrictions and projection restrictions are applied). These Smart Scan blocks are created at run time by the storage server so they have no bearing on the blocks that reside physically on disk which is why they can not be reused by other queries via the SGA and are read directly into the PGA space.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Once you have restored your new phone from the backup of your old phone and ensured that everything is working correctly, you should first turn off "find my phone" on the old phone and then erase it, before you get rid of it.
