What happened to the Export feature in Preview?

In Panther, I used to be able to export from .pdf files to .jpg easily. Now, not so much. You have to grab the section you want to export as jpeg and save it and go through a lot of garbage. What gives, and is this fixed in 10.5?

Nope, still does not allow saving.
I just want to save each page as a JPG and then save to my website. This way users can simply view the page without having to open another app like preview or acrobat viewer to see the page.
Point is, in the previous version of Preview in Panther, exporting each page to whatever format was a simple thing. File, Export, select format and directory, Save, done! It gave a warning that only single page exports were supported, but that's what I wanted anyway.
Luckily, I copied my entire boot drive onto a secondary drive before upgrading to 10.4, so I have Preview 2.1 still, and it works.
Still, any clues as to why they changed/removed this Export feature to a clunky and PITA, many step, not as good, way of doing a thing?

  • What happened to the "overview" button in Preview?

When I try to use preview to scan, the menu doesn't show the "overview" button. There's a nameless blank button to the left of "scan," but it doesn't perform the overview function; it merely starts the scan just as does the button to its right.

  • What happen to the alarm feature?

    Hello,
I use BlackBerry devices for many years.
Three months ago I switched from 9700 to Q10 and my girlfriend to Z30.
When most of the features are OK (because there are still many issues when the phones freeze), what I cannot understand is the alarm feature.
Obviously, battery usage is harder in BB10, it is especially visible in Q10.
    So...
    1. I set an alarm for e.g. 8:00 A.M., my phone battery is around 20%,
    2. In the morning the alarm does not wake me up, simply because there is no alarm - the phone is dead.
It is a critical bug, but maybe caused by poor Linux kernel in the new OS?
    3. I start to charge my phone and go to the bathroom. After 5 or 10 minutes when the phone wakes up, the alarm rings!!!
And I need to get back from the bathroom quickly, just to turn it off.
It is second bug, as since I connected my phone to the charger it means I already waked up! OBVIOUSLY! Why it needs to ring? There is no option "charge and skip the alarm".
Will it be fixed? As far as I remember, in 9700 the radio is turning off after battery draining, and even then the phone is turning off later, but even then the phone can wake up with "empty" battery and the alarm, then turn off again.
In Q10 there is no automatic radio turning off or waking up with the alarm.
Is is so hard to save 3% of the battery, "fake" draining and turn the phone off? Then turn on with the alarm?
Or turn the radio (and maybe applications) off like in 9700 to save the battery?
I am a programmer, from my point of view it is 4 lines of code more to turn off radio and save battery, then half an hour work on the feature that wakes the "dead" phone up with the alarm. But I guess it is some kind of Linux / QNX limitation and BlackBerry team does not modify the core?
PS. I cannot charge the phone frequently, simply because there is no desktop charger like for 9700. I need to use USB cable every time, which is a pain. I will need to consider moving back or choosing another manufacturer after all these years... Why did BlackBerry do one step back?

    It is about changing habits.
I have a desktop charger for my 9700 and what I need to do is just place the phone there.
No cables. The 9700 was charging all the time so I didn't need to worry.
    http://www.bbworld.co.uk/blackberry/images/9700%20desktop%20charging%20pod.jpg
As far as I know this is impossible to do with Q10, so I need to aim with the microUSB cable all the time.
It's obvious I don't charge it all the time, as I did with my 9700.
But even if 9700 battery was drained, the alarm still worked.
Of course I charge my Q10, I have my charger near to my bed and I charge it additionaly with USB cable on my desk.
Also I have a charger in my car.
It's way worse than with 9700 anyway, as situation with alarm still happen.
Sometimes I party and when I get back the last thing I think about is to charge my phone.
And please don't compare BB to iPhone, I know it's way better, but it's still worse comparing to older models.
I agree that Z30 is better in terms of battery, but it doesn't matter. What matters is sometimes I don't plug in the phone and Q10 doesn't turning off all wireless connections like 9700, and then the alarm is not working when the phone is off.
I'm curious if I'll charge my phone completely and turn it off (e.g. to save battery when travel) it will run the alarm.

  • What happened to the Sepia feature in the new Photos for Mac?

I used to convert pictures to Sepia in Aperture, but have not been able to find the ability to do so in the new Photos app.  Does that feature not exist?

Apple does not seem to be too good with keeping iTunes’ Help current or providing thorough explanations. For instance, the sorting fields were introduced in iTunes 7.1, but no information about those fields were ever in the help screens. Now that they are finally referenced in iTunes Help, the only mention of the sorting fields is a single line stating,
Click the Sorting tab and enter custom text to sort by.
on a help page about tagging songs for grouping and sorting. If Microsoft can provide general explanation with links to more detailed explanations, detailed instructions and provide examples as to how and why a feature may be used, then Apple being known for creating more user-friendly products should be at least as thorough if not have help screens that blow anything in office away.
For one, iTunes Help should include an index that allows one to find pages/articles that reference a feature?

  • What happened to the help feature in CS5

Prior Photoshop versions had a help feature that brought up a document where topics could be easily located in an index. In CS5 this help functionality no longer exists, or I can not find it. Instead there is some new help document that contains no index of subjects and when you try and search for a topic it returns articles not just for CS5 but for earlier versions. This is confusing, I just want to easily locate a particular topic for CS5 only. Is this no longer possible in CS5? If not, why was it dropped?

As Zeno mentioned, you can restrict the search to just the Photoshop CS5 Help document by checking the "This reference only" checkbox. Click here for an example of such a search.
Regarding the lack of an index: Are you referring to the navigation pane (sometimes referred to as a table of contents) on the left side of every page, or are you referring to something else? Either way, I encourage you to give your feedback on the Community Help forum. The people who can affect this system are on that forum.

  • What happened to the todo feature in mail and notes

I use the notes and Todo's function in Mail, and I noticed that my Todo's that I had prior to upgrading to Lion are no longer available. I also cannot make anymore Todo's. Did Apple do away with this feature, and are there any plans for a replacement?

I think they've been moved to iCal Reminders.

  • When I receive, scan or print a .pdf, Adobe Reader shows a dark screen, so I can't see the doc.  If I print it, it usually prints correctly, but what happened to the print and scan preview screen?

Problems with Adobe Reader (read my question)

Try deleting the Adobe plugin and use the built in Preview. Hard drive level Library/Internet Plugins. If it isn't there, check your user Library.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library.

  • What happened to the Events feature?

I used to organize photos over a period of time as Events (Not albums).

The new Photos app does not have an Events feature, but it should have converted each of your iPhoto events to albums & put them all in a folder named "iPhoto Events."
So if you select the top level Albums view in Photos (command+3 is one quick way to do that), look for an item with that name & double click on it. That should show you each of your events as albums, named the same as they were in iPhoto.
Alternately, if you use the sidebar view (command+option+S is one quick way to toggle it on or off) look for the folder named "iPhoto Events" in the sidebar. Click the expand triangle next to it & you will get an indented list of each album event, so you can click on any of them to go directly to that album.

  • What happened to the edit features of iphoto 6

I used to click on the edit button at the bottom of the iphoto window and used very simplified editing tools. Now when I click on edit it throws me into Photoshop. Did they do away with the old system?

    Jerry:
Go into iPhoto's preferences and select the edit method you want to use. Apparently it got set to use Photoshop when you double click on a photo. If you set it to open in the edit window you can still use Photoshop when you want by Control-clicking on the photo and selecting "Edit in external editor".

  • I'm using the great Firefox 5.o. What happened to the "Bookmark All Tabs" feature that used to be found under Bookmarks? I love Mozilla Firefox!!!! :-)

I've looked under the Bookmarks heading as well as History. What happened to the extremely useful "Bookmark All Tabs". Loved that feature of Firefox. Thank you!!!!!!

Right-click '''on''' a Tab to see that menu item or use {Ctrl + Shft + D}.
In conjunction with the new Firefox button in Firefox 4.0 and with the addition of some new features that added a number of new menu items, many of the older menu items were moved around or only appear under certain conditions. It can be a bit confusing until you get used to the changes, but beyond adding new menu items in the future for new features, I don't think there will be major changes like that for awhile.

The short answer is "yes, BUT…"
DVX-100 is a DV camera, thus it only captures DV. You can export your DV sequence to whatever format you desire, like HDV (a consumer-level version of HD), but that doesn't mean it will look as good as footage natively shot in HD. You gain no quality at all, in fact you lose quality due to scaling the footage up from the DV to HDV framesize. There are workflows for upconverting your DV footage to HDV or HD posted all over this forum and elsewhere on the Net. A quick search should give you some insight into the process.
