What happened to the finder sidebar menu?

I have had to spend sooooo much time trying to locate files that I just closed! What happened to the Finder menu that listed TODAY, PAST WEEK, etc?  It's nervewracking!  I don't want to open the files but upload them.  I don't like that I can't just find them easilyl in the menu format before...... I'm not sure I like this so-called upgrade.... on the iphone it's cool, but on the MAC.. not so sure I like it.

Under your stuff, you can click on Profile and it'll show your equipment - you can change it there.
Now, as for the Finder Sidebar, if you go to Finder Preferences and click on Sidebar, it will show everything that can be shown there. Some changes were made in Lion - one of them is "all my files" - I don't need that, so I unchecked it, but you may want to try it to see if that can be useful for you. And, under the Go Menu, you can use Go To Folder. I never used any of the options you've used simply because I've never needed that. Maybe you can arrange/file your stuff by name so it'll be easier to find?

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

new computer, loaded Firefox 4. What happened to bookmark sidebar? How do I get it back? How do I move my bookmarks from old computer to new computer?
old computer is offline, so if I have to make a copy of something hopefully it can be done offline.
Don't really understand why windows 7 renders Firefox so different that XP. Will change, but really like the old feel.

  • What happened to the Finder Window?

Tonight I found that my Finder is not working the way it did the last time I looked. Before, when I clicked on the Finder icon in the dock, the Finder Window would open on the left side of the screen. Now, it opens as a window that looks more like a search windown and is spread across the screen.  The folders and files the once were easy to find, as they were in simple hirarcial order, are limited and no longer useful.
I went back and set up the Finder with the files that I want displayed, but that did not change the Finder back to the vertical window on the left side of the screen showing the folders and files I want displayed.
To my knowledge, no software changes were made. I did just put in a new power adaptor cord  and a new battery since the original is six years old.
Can anyone tell me how to restore the Finder Window?

To restore the sidebar, click the little lozenge-shaped grey button at the top right of the window.

  • What happened to the Insert Date menu item?

In the Numbers 3.0 upgrade the Insert Date menu item is gone.  Where can I now find it?  Or is there now  shortcut?
    David

    David,
Wait a minute... I'm adding that one to my list.
    My workaround:
    Type =Today() Return, Return, Up-Arrow,  Command-C, Shift-Command-V
This enters the date from a function then copies the cell and pastes the value back into the cell.
    Some shortcut, eh?

  • What happened to the "Organized Bookmarks" menu item in FF5?

I want to export my FF5 bookmarks for backup and syncing purposes, and so I looked up "Exporting bookmarks to an HTML File" in Help and I read this: "On the menu bar, click on the Bookmarks menu and choose Organize Bookmarks....". In my copy of FF5, there is no such menu item???

I can't understand why "Organize Bookmarks" was changed to "Show All Bookmarks", the former was obvious to its intent, the latter would imply that some bookmarks in the list were hidden!

  • What happened to the 'TV Show' menu item.

I just watched the One More Thing... event again, and noticed that when Steve shows off the iPod, there is option for 'TV Shows' in the Video menu next to 'Music Videos' and 'Video Podcasts'.
Is it just my iPod that lacks this?

Is it just my iPod that lacks this?
If you are the only person not including the required data nodes which would allow the software to create a valid "path" between a particular TV show and a "TV Shows" video category then yes, you would be the only one having this problem. Unfortunately, neither is likely to be true here. Remember, the "Video Kind" (TV Show) merely tells the software how a particular file is to be handled while "TV Shows" is both a defined category and a path component (data node) just as much as the series title, season shown, and the episode identification/episode numerical index. Without these data nodes no path exists and no menu path can be displayed.
... noticed that when Steve shows off the iPod, there is option for 'TV Shows' in the Video menu next to 'Music Videos' and 'Video Podcasts'.
Not sure how "hands on" Steve is when it comes to all of the nuances of the software applications he may demonstrate. Would assume, at least to some extent, he does not personally create many of the sample files used during the stage demonstrations. Therefore, he may, or may not, be fully cognizant of problems you are facing. And, even if he is, I doubt he would be willing to emphasize the attendant shortcomings or volunteer the fact that a third party application is needed to fully exploit Apple's own "Golden Goose" software in non-commercial areas (i.e., non-purchased TV shows).
In short, Google "Lostify" and see if it helps.

  • What happened to the drop down menu for the back button in Firefox 4?

There used to be an arrow that allowed me to go back a few pages which seems to be missing in Firefox 4. Please bring it back.

You can also get the drop-down list by holding down the left button until the list appears.

  • What happened to the drop down menu on the navigation bar that showed previous pages visited? It was to the right of the "forward/back" arrows.

To the right of the forward/back arrows there was a drop down arrow that would allow you to see the last several stops you had made after doing a search. This was very handy for going back and forth between articles, etc. '''I used it all the time and want it back. '''If this version of Firefox doesn't have it, please tell me how to download the previous version that did have it. Thanks.

The Back/Forward button drop-down arrow marker was removed from Firefox.
To get the tab history drop-down list, you can:
    *right-click the Back/Forward button
*HOLD down the left-click mouse button on the Back/Forward button until the list appears (about 1 second)
*Add back the drop-down marker by installing this Add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/backforward-dropmarker/

  • Just upgraded to 5 from 3 - what happened to the page select icon? Can't find it in customize toolbars.

Used to be you could select which page you wished to go back or forward to from the arrow icons on the navigation toolbar. The history menu item only shows 10 sites without having to open history for today. What happened? Is there another icon or a new plug in for this functionality? I used it all the time.

''what happened to the page select icon (Back/Forward)''
The back/forward buttons have been moved to right-hand side of the navigation bar and the drop-down was removed. User right-click or hold click for one second to see the tab history. This is item #5 in my list.
The History menu also has "Open Previous session" and "Open closed windows",
to see more history use the History sidebar ("Ctrl+H") or the History Library List ("Ctrl+Shift+H") and sort or view by "Last visited".
You can make '''Firefox 5.0.1''' look like Firefox 3.6.19, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 5.0.1, or 4.0.1, look like 3.6.*)]. • What happened to the sidebar view in iTunes 12.0?

What happened to the sidebar view in iTunes 12.0?

"Switch to Songs view.  Everything will be much clearer"
I have no use for Songs view.  I always use Albums view (personal preference  - I think of my library as a collection of albums, not of songs), but never had any problem at all with the use of the top-left icons in iTunes 12.  Indeed, I much prefer the iTunes 12 version of the sidebar - ironically, for the reason that some seem to object to it: it doesn't clutter up a standardized listing of my library content with device-related information, and does not change if I connect an iDevice.  In general, the only interaction I need at the device level is the Eject function - all content syncing is controlled through playlists associated with each device I use (which, of course, are visible and can be modified whether a device is connected or not).  I only need to see the details of a device on the rare occasions I want to make a change to its behavior with respect to synchronization.

  • What happened to the multi-touch gestures in Finder?

I've updated to Lion last week.  Overall, I think what Apple did was great to the overall experience.  However, my only gripes are in Finder.  What happened to the multi-touch gestures?  The only thing that I can do is flip through files in cover view using two finger swipes.
What happened to the pinch to zoom in and out?  I've seen other posts about this so I'll stop here.  Apple please bring this function back.  I'm tired of moving my mouse to the drag handle.
Secondly, I was using three finger swipes to navigate to the previous and next folder in Finder.   Since two finger is used to flip through cover view, I see why they couldn't extend the back/forward function to two finger swipes as they did in Safari and I know that three finger swipe is used to change desktops.  I wish that Apple was more creative to leave this function in somehow.
Is there a way to bring these functions back to Finder?  These are the functions that I used all the time.

That doesn't explain why they would remove the pinch to zoom in and out.  That is not be used by anything else in finder.  If I'm going through pictures, I would like to zoom in on the images for cover view.
As far as the three figure swipes to go back and forth in finder, I understand why that has been removed.  However, Apple could have implemented the two finger swipe just like in Safari which is sensitive to the acceleration of the swipes.  If you swipe with two fingers somewhat fast, you can go back and forth between previous and next page.  If you swipe with two fingers slowly, you can pan left and right on the same page.
They could have done something to retain the functionality versus taking out the functionality all together.  As of now, these functionalities do not exist.  I'm hoping that something is going to change and we'll have to see what the future brings.

  • When I edit and/or delete photos from an album in iPhoto is there a way to make that what happens in the folder in finder?

When I edit and/or delete photos from an album in iPhoto is there a way to make that what happens in the folder in finder? I am new to Mac. I've updated the operating system and iPhoto.

If your iPhoto Advanced preference pane is setup like this
all photos you import into the library are COPIED into the library.  Thus those photos in the folders outside of iPhoto are redundant and can be deleted to save space on your hard drive. There no need to keep those copies in the folders.
If you do have your advance preferences set as shown above you can access your photos for use outside of iPhoto according to the following User Tip by Terence Devlin which is the best treatise on how to access photos (for use outside of iPhoto):  How to Access Files in iPhoto.  Otherwise you access your photos from within iPhoto.

  • What happened to the "Block Popup Windows" menu item in Safari 6?

What happened to the "Block Popup Windows" menu item in Safari 6?  Seems to be gone.

Shheesh!  Loki is saying that this was a very useful tool/option.  Is there any way to BRING IT BACK TO THE SAFARI MENU?  Not how to do it in Preferences.
What I am saying is: What incompetent is responsible for this build of Safari?  There was no reason to take that out... plenty of room in the Safari menu.  But if you REALLY want to know why I'm ******, Older people can no longer go into "Appearances" and change the Fonts and Size without knowing how to use terminal or how to make .css files.  (which doesn't work well anyway)
    This build is infuriating.
