What happened to the first gen apple tv

you can't get to itunes anymore.  Did apple kill the the 1st Gen apple TV ?????

Judging by all the posts on the forum, there seems to be an issue at Apple's end, although they have made no announcement on their status page. Some users have reported that Apple is aware of the issue. You can leave feedback for Apple at the link below.

  • HT201317 Just got a 4S.  We've taken 1,000 photos which are in the camera roll.  Photo Stream has loaded the last half of the 477 pictures.   Not sure what happened to the first 523 pictures.  How do I request that these be uploaded again to Photo Stream?

I have a 4S and have taken 1,000 photos.  For some reason only the last half of them, 477 pictures, loaded to Photo Stream.  I think I turned off Photo Stream in attempting to set up iCloud.  How do I re-load the first set of 523 photos again to Phot Stream?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
It is not very easy at all to add photos to photo stream from your camera roll on your phone, the only way I'm aware that this can be achieved is to take a screenshot of each photo. It would be much simpler to sync your photos to a computer and add them to photo stream from there.
Photostream when enabled will only add photos from the camera roll that were taken post photostream activation.

  • Prosite is free? What happen after the first free month ?

I am going to do my portfolio on prosite...its cool.
I have an adobe account, the free one, and after 30 days i think its going to dissapear...What happen next? If i do my web with my own domain, its going to dissapear, or they are going to tell me that i have to pay to keep the web page??

Hello - ProSite is only free with a paid Creative Cloud subscription, not with a Trial membership, which is sounds like you're on. However, anyone can use ProSite for free to create and work on their site - UNTIL you want to publish it. At that point, you can buy it as a standalone ($99/year), or you can get it free as part of a paid Creative Cloud plan.

  • What Happened with the 1st Gen iPod Nano Settlement

Whatever happened with the 1st generation iPod Nano settlement? Was it a scam? I signed up online a long time ago but never heard back.
Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this question. But, I haven't been able to get an answer anywhere else.
    Thanks!

I didn't sign up for it, but my understanding was it had not yet been finalized.

  • Can I move an iTunes library from Comp1 to Comp2 through Home Sharing?  What happens with the first sync?  What happens to 3rd party app data (specifically, game scores/levels)?

I need to move an iTunes library from Computer 1 to Computer 2.  Can I do this through Home Sharing, by dragging and dropping library items from one to the other?  The library consists of iTunes purchases, home shared items and music/movies from our personal collection.  Both computers have had all the accounts authorized, so I don't anticipate an issue there.  I'd like to do this so that my son's ipod is impacted as little as possible -- specifically, his game scores/levels and other 3rd party data remain intact after the 1st sync and the organization of his icons remain intact.
Is there a way to do this smoothly and easily, protecting his ipod data/organization?

Sorry, I obviously wasn't clear. If you replicate the library from Computer 1 to Computer 2 by copying it, then all will be well. I routinely sync my iPhone and iPad both at home and at work using a single library that I migrate between the two locations via an external drive which is kept up do date using SyncToy.
Backup the iPod touch on Computer 1.
Copy the entire iTunes folder from Computer 1 to Computer 2, replacing any existing iTunes folder on Computer 2.
Check that content is accessible in the migrated library. (Won't be a problem for a standard iTunes library where all the content is inside the iTunes Media folder which in turn is inside your iTunes folder).
Connect iPod touch to Computer 2.
    Sync.
In the unlikely event that something goes wrong (it won't) then you can connect the device back to Computer 1 to restore it.
Note device backups are not stored within the iTunes library and stay on the machine on which they were created. It is theorectically possible to migrate them but there isn't really any point. Once you have synced the iPod with the copy of the library on Computer 2 then Computer 2 will make its own backup of the device.

What happens when the computer get too full of e-mails?  Will it automatically start deleting ... or give you some kind of warning??  I never delete personal mail right away since I might want to refer back to it, and then the first thing I know, I've got a big backlog.

It will not automatically delete any emails; you will need to do that. You may suffer performance  issues in Mail  if you let your mailboxes become too bloated. And, aside from Mail, the files take up a lot of room are photos, videos, and music, so you might want to watch those - every once in a while, check how much hard drive space you have and make sure you empty the trash regularly. Checking your hard drive space: highlight your Macintosh HD icon on the desktop; hit Command  + I and check the total capacity, and how much is left.

  • What happens to the apps' data, if they were restored to a new device, but apps never get installed?

This is a super easy scanario.
Say in my old phone I have totally 50 apps, 30 purchased under Appel ID (A), and another 20 purchased under a different Apple ID, (B).
The old device is iOS5 and I turned on iCloud backup and back up everything (data of all apps).
I get a new device, restore from iCloud, wait until everything (photo, messages, settings, most importantly, data of all 50 apps) are restoed to the new phone.
The first thing happen after the first reboot, and it will prompt me to log on my Apple ID, to install apps.
What if, at this moment I decied to only sign on with Apple ID (A), and just don't want to use all 20 apps that I purchased under Apple ID (B) anymore?
Is the data of those 20 apps become leftover /  orphane on my new phone, and just no way to clean them up?  Please notice again, that I did not say "install app and then delete", I know that will clean up the data as well. I mean when data is copied over but app never get installed.

Game settings and other data is part of the backup:
    iTunes: About iOS backups
A manual backup before you sync for the first time will save your content to the new PC.

  • Will the first gen ipad support display mirroring via airplay when IOS5 is released?

From what I have read, IOS5 will support display mirroring on the ipad 2.. Is this likely to be added to the first gen ipad ? If so then great, but if not, why not? Im sure if you can wirelessly stream music and movies to an Apple TV device (connected via wifi) from the ipad one, then surely you must be able to use display mirroring ?

In case you didn't click on the link above that is on the Apple site:
    AirPlay Mirroring for iPad 2
Wow your audience in the board room, classroom, or living room. AirPlay now supports video mirroring. Which means you can wirelessly — and securely — stream whatever’s on your iPad 2 to your HDTV via Apple TV. Everyone in the room sees exactly what’s on your iPad display up there on the big screen — even when you rotate iPad from portrait to landscape or zoom in and out on photos.2
So unless you were told be Steve Jobs that the iPad 1 will also do AirPlay Mirroring it really doesn't matter what you have been told, you are posting at best speculation but more likely misinformation.
And no, don't have anything better to do.

  • What happens when the Time Machine drive is full?

I'm on my second iMac. My first one (G5, 1984) died, and I replaced it early 2010 with an Intel mac. The transition when exceedingly well largely due to Time Machine. I just hooked the Time Machine drive to the new system, and I was soon back up running!
My home folder has 70GB of data. The Macintosh drive has 105GB of data and 395GB free. The Time Machine drive has 220GB used and 30GB free.
    1. What happens when the Time Machine drive is full?
    2. Do I have control over what backups get deleted?
    3. If lightning strikes twice, will I still be able to restore my Intel mac like my G5 mac, even if backups get deleted?
    4. Is there anyway to control what backups/backup files get deleted?
    5. Any other thoughts?
    Thanks.

i have deleted the time machine folders and they are now in my trash. when i try to secure empty my trash it will delete everything but the t/m folders. how do i delete them?
Do you mean all of them? The entire Backups.backupdb folder?
That's a large mess. First, even a normal delete will take a very long time, as there are probably hundreds of thousands, or even millions, of files. Your best bet by far is to simply erase them with Disk Utility -- that will only take a few moments. If your TM drive has a single partition, see #1 in [Formatting, Partitioning, Verifying, and Repairing Disks|http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/DU.html]. If there are other partition(s) on the drive, see #2 there.
If not, and you only deleted some of the folders, you have a different, worse problem. Unfortunately, Apple doesn't do a very good job of warning folks: +*Never move, change, or delete anything in your backups via the Finder or Terminal.+*
You shouldn't have to delete backups at all, since Time Machine will do that automatically when the disk/partition gets full. But you can do it without harm via Time Machine. See #12 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
A normal delete will take a very long time, as there are probably tens or hundreds of thousands of items, each of which must be individually deleted. A secure delete will take much, much longer, as each deleted file must be overwritten with zeros.

  • What happened to the Xraid?

What happened to the Xraid? its no longer on the apple website? Are they still in production?

oh. well, the promise, might sound promising at the moment, but im sure there's gonna be some compatibility issues with leopard server and the Xserve soon......
o well. I didnt REALLY need a server and a RAID in the first place.

  • After upgrading what happens to the apps on my 3G?

I just received my iPhone 4 and put my backup from my iPhone 3G on. It works fine, and there is no more AT&T service on my iPhone 3G. I intend to use the 3G as an iPod Touch. I understand the SIM card needs to stay in the phone for this, even though it is not activated with AT&T.
What happens to the apps that are still on my 3G? They are still working. I assume they will stay there until I need to sync. Then I will have to set up a new iTunes account, under a unique computer user name, for the 3G and buy the apps all over again for the 3G.

Nope, the apps stay there until you delete them.
I currently sync 2 iPhones and 2 iPod Touch units all to one iTunes store account, and per the Apple licensing, they all can run apps I have purchased. I had a similar question as you when I first started using multiple devices, so I sent an email to the app author for the app I wanted most to do this with. His response was that this is Apple's terms, so if I didn't want to purchase a second license to use his app on a second device, then I didn't need to (but he wouldn't stop me if I wanted to either). In the end, I found this app author to be very dedicated to his app, and very responsive to my comments/requests, so I did purchase a second copy of his app (yes, I had my wife create an iTunes account and purchase it under her account).

Is that what you really believe?
I don't know cause Apple decided for me.
As does Microsoft anytime that they release a new update that is no longer compatible with the old PC hardware.
I would hope that Microsoft and Apple would both know what operating systems will run on the hardware that is produced for them.
I would also hope that Microsoft and Apple know better than you do as to what would work on their devices, tablets, computers, phones .... How much time and money have you put into research and development on the iPad?

  • HT201335 Is there a technical reason why the first gen iPad will not mirror?

I have a first gen iPad running 5.1.1
I had 5.1 and that did not work either.
A new 2012 apple tv and no go on the mirroring. My iPhone 4a mirrors. Why can't the first gen iPad

I think the newer iPads have a 5 or 5x chip set.  What are they using in the first gen?
I never thought of my iPad as slow
I couldn't tell you off the top of my head.
Yes iPad 1 still seems good for me too, but the 3rd gen is noticeably smoother in use.
Absolute specs are really irrelevant - Apple have not allowed the iPad 1 to mirror and that's that - pretty much like older Macs pre 2011 not being able to do so due to lack of a CPU feature.

  • Just updated iMovie today. What happened to the Ripple transition?

Just updated iMovie today. What happened to the Ripple transitions?

I had the same problem.  After about and hour with Apple care and several different people, I was told Apple eliminated the Ripple transition as part of the 9.0.6 update.  It's gone...no way to get it back in 9.0.6.  I was just finishing a project that used a bunch of this transition, so I found a work around.  I used Time Machine to revert back to the old version of iMovie (9.0.4).  When asked if I wanted to replace or keep both files, I elected to keep both files.  I now have a version of iMovie called iMovie (Original).  That still has the Ripple effect.  Seems to be working fine also.  I can't image why Apple did this.  I left feedback in the feedback forum.  Recommend we all do it so they will place the Ripple back.  This is the first time I've really used iMovie for a big project.  I've discovered I'm probably better off with something like Final Cut or Adobe Elements.  That's what I know.  Hope it helps.
