What happened to the Ken Burns effect?

I recently updated OSX and updated Final Cut Pro X. I can no longer see the "Ken Burns" effect option. Where did it go and can I get it back?

Tom,
I haven't used transform, crop or Ken burns since the latest update. I can click on a still photo in the browser to put it into the viewer, but when I click the transform button or crop in the lower left of the inspector I don't get the usual handles to resize the photo.

  • Using the Ken Burns effect in I Photo 5

The first time I worked on a slide show I was able to use the Ken Burns effect with no problems. Later on opening I Photo and clicking on slide show I no longer have the controls for the Ken Burns effect. There is just a blank space where they should be. Why did this happen ? How do I get the controls back?
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Vernon

    Vernon:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What may have happened is that one or more items within the iPhoto application package have had their permissions changed so you do not have access. Run Disk Utility and repair disk permissions. If that doesn't help try moving the application to the desktop and making a duplicate of it-select it and type Command-D. Now move the duplicated to the applications folder and rename to just iPhoto. Now see if the KB controls come back.
Next would be a reinstallation of iPhoto. You'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder. Now reinstall iPhoto 5 and immediately update to the latest version. Then repair disk permissions.
Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

  • How can I turn off the ken burns effect on iMovie? If I crop the picture it still persists!

I cannot turn off ken burns on iMovie for the life of me! Everyone is telling me to fit the photo or stop it, which I have done. However, when cropped the ken burns effect is still there in full force!!! What can I do to turn off this dreadful effect?

  • How do I get the Ken Burns Effect?

How in FCE do I achieve the Ken Burns effect which I used a lot in iMovie '08?

    Hello Piero,
Thank-you for your contribution. Your plug-in comes in very handy as I have decided to drop producing slideshows using iPhoto after it lost my slide show project. So many hours of work down the drain!
Anyhow, here I am looking for the quickest way to get similar results using FCE and I find your plugin. As I am getting familiar with FCE I want ahead with a trial of your plugin. My only question at this stage is what could cause the pf folder not to show up in the Video generators? The pf folder does show in the Video filters but not the Genrator filter.
I did follow your instructions with care at:
    http://web.mac.com/piero.fiorani/PieroFFCE_Effect/PluginsInstallation.html
but still cannot figure out the cause.
    Thanks for your help,

  • Selecting photo then clicking "Fit" does NOT turn off the Ken Burns effect.

Trying to wean from iMovieHD.  I'm having trouble mastering what seems to be more limited Ken Burns effect functionality in iMovie11.   I don't seem to have the range, say, left-to-right, as I did in either iPhoto or in iMovie HD.
So, I figured for now I'd turn off the Ken Burns effect on all the stills in this project.  I've tried selecting one photo, getting into the Fit/Crop/KB effect viewer, then clicking Fit, then Done.  But the photo keeps the KB effect that had been applied to it.
I tried changing all photos in Preferences and that didn't change anything either.
Hopefully I'm just missing something?  Thanks for any help, everybody...

Nevermind.  Got it.  As I'd hoped, user error.

in 8.1.2 i have un checked the Ken Burns effect in some individual slides. Sometimes it turns itself back on. At first I thought I'd made the mistake myself, but it has happend many times. Can I avoid this? Is the software flawed?

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Can I create a keyboard command for the Ken Burns effect?

    Friends,
I am creating a short video that consists of about 40 stills and a few video clips.  For each of the stills I want to create a Ken Burns effect.  I know that there is a keyboard command to open the crop tool.  Can I create a keyboard command that opens the Ken Burns editor?  I guess the broader question is whether I can create a macro that combines a keystroke and one or more mouse clicks?
    Thanks!
    Steve

    The Keyboard-shortcuts-editor
    ⌥ - ⌘ - K
doesn't list the 'Ken Burns'-effect as 'shortcutable' …
And I doubt, that even Automator
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2488?viewlocale=en_US
    would createany useful 'shortcuts':
Each picture is different - so, how should a 'standardised' KB work?
What does work indeed , is copy/paste of Attributes:
    create your KB for clip#1
    hit cmd-c
select clip#2 (or many) hit ⇧-⌘-V and select the 'crop' attributes ...

  • Stopping the Ken Burns Effect

I'm making a slideshow in Iphoto 11 and every time I add a picture it automatically adds the Ken Burns effect. Is there anyway to make this not happen without having to change the settings in each individual picture?
    Thanks

What theme are you using? Try select the Classic, it has no KB effect.

  • Constant Crashes when I try to manipulate the Ken Burns Effect

Im trying to edit a slideshow where Im using the Ken Burns effect.
When I try to set the position of the photo at the start or end of the move, iPhoto usually crashes.
It will only let me alter the Zoom amount.
It cant seem to handle a repositioning.
    What is the deal?!
It is supposed to be able to do this.
Is this because the newest iPhoto is beyond the specs of my G5 tower?
I have to make 2 adjustments then quit just to save my minor changes or else all is lost when I crash.
    BUMMER.

There have been reports of issues with video cards from older machines and iPhoto 09.
Are all the Slideshow options available on your machine?
    Post the Crash Log.
    It's at Home / Library / Logs / Crash-Reporter / iphoto.crash.log
Double click on the file and it will open in the Console. Copy and Paste it in here.

  • Can you control the timing of the Ken Burns effect?

I've been experimenting with the Ken Burns effect, using it on video clips.  By default, the KB effect starts at the beginning of the clip and finishes at the end.
I would like to the KB effect to start at a certain point in the clip and finish at a certain point in the clip, leaving the image zoomed-in (or zoomed-out) at whatever point I choose to stop the effect.  Is this possible?  If so, how?  I would think maybe I could do it with keyframes, but I can't figure out how.

LOL--I just bought some more tutorials.  I will say that learning FCPX is vastly easier than trying to learn FCP6 was.  For me, there's no comparison.  Trying to learn FCP6 was horrible.  This is fun.  I know it doesn't have all the features many of the pros want, but it is fantastic for my needs.  It is much more intuitive, but I guess I still have to put more time in.
I just tried your suggestion, and it works fine, thanks!  That's exactly what I was looking for.  I really didn't like trying to use Transform because I was having to expand the image beyond the frame size and it just seemed like a very crude way to do what I was trying to accomplish.

  • Cant turn off the ken burns effect

The ken burns effect (why is that on by default for crissakes?) cannot be tuned off!!!! I have about 10 images in a movie made up of about 100 still images on which the ken burns effect cannot be turned off. I tried unchecking the ken burns check box & hitting the update button, but it immediately turns itself back on!! Tis is with iMovie 3, and as i said, it affects only the first 10 or so images in this particular project.

I know, sometimes it feels like Ken Burns has a mind of its own. It WILL do what you want, but first you have to figure out its rules.
The most important is that all of the Ken Burns settings, the KB checkbox, zoom, pan and duration are controlled by the LAST imported clip you made, or a previously-imported clip you clicked on. THAT's what sets the default setting for your next import(s). (A very nice feature, by the way, for it lets you apply the Ken Burns settings of one clip to the next photos you import. You don't have to reconfigure settings each time.)
That also means that when you uncheck the KB checkbox that won't "stick". When you click on some other clip it may change.
So when updating an existing clip, the trick is to select the clip, THEN adjust the Ken Burns settings, THEN Update the clip.
A complicating factor is that previously-imported photos to which special effects or other editing has been applied are no longer considered Ken Burns clips, so clicking on them doesn't have the same result.
So pay close attention to what you click on, and even closer attention to whether or not there is a clip selected or an image selected in the Photos pane selected. iMovie will select a photo on its own when you haven't selected something.
It works like you want, but first you have to see that what it does is you want.

  • When i create a slideshow in iphoto using the ken burns effect it will not work in idvd. any tips please.

when i create a slideshow in iphoto with the ken burns effect it works fine. when i then transfer it to idvd it will not work. any tips please.

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
how are you getting the slideshow into iDVD?
what size slideshow did you send to iDVD?
can you export the slideshow to the Desktop and play it with Quicktime Player there?
    what fixes have you tried?
how much free space on your boot drive?
Here's how you should create and sent a slideshow to iDVD from iPhoto:
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  For iPhoto 9.4.3 and earlier select Size = Medium or Large. For iPhoto 9.5 and later selct 480p.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

When you create a New Project and give it a name, the next thing you should always do is go to File>Project Properties and make sure in 'Initial Photo Placement you have selected either Fit or Crop. It seems the default setting is the Ken Burns annoyance.
