What happened to the multi-vlan feature?

I've read cisco documentation that discusses the multi-vlan feature on the 2900 XL series, but not for the 2950s. Is this functionality provided in a different way on the 2950s?

The short answer is yes, via trunking.
The multi-vlan feature was originally supported on the early 2900XL hardware since the asics used at the time did not support ISL or dot1q encapsulation. When the updated 2900XL and the 3500XL were released they had asics that did support ISL and dot1q encapsulation and so multi-vlan support was no longer required. A decision was made to keep the multi-vlan feature available for these platforms... I assume... so that customers with a mix of 'old' and 'new' hardware could configure them the same.
When the 2950 and 3550 were released a decision was made to no longer support the multi-vlan feature since the hardware of both already supported either ISL and dot1q (3550) or dot1q (2950).

  • What happened to the multi-touch gestures in Finder?

I've updated to Lion last week.  Overall, I think what Apple did was great to the overall experience.  However, my only gripes are in Finder.  What happened to the multi-touch gestures?  The only thing that I can do is flip through files in cover view using two finger swipes.
What happened to the pinch to zoom in and out?  I've seen other posts about this so I'll stop here.  Apple please bring this function back.  I'm tired of moving my mouse to the drag handle.
Secondly, I was using three finger swipes to navigate to the previous and next folder in Finder.   Since two finger is used to flip through cover view, I see why they couldn't extend the back/forward function to two finger swipes as they did in Safari and I know that three finger swipe is used to change desktops.  I wish that Apple was more creative to leave this function in somehow.
Is there a way to bring these functions back to Finder?  These are the functions that I used all the time.

That doesn't explain why they would remove the pinch to zoom in and out.  That is not be used by anything else in finder.  If I'm going through pictures, I would like to zoom in on the images for cover view.
As far as the three figure swipes to go back and forth in finder, I understand why that has been removed.  However, Apple could have implemented the two finger swipe just like in Safari which is sensitive to the acceleration of the swipes.  If you swipe with two fingers somewhat fast, you can go back and forth between previous and next page.  If you swipe with two fingers slowly, you can pan left and right on the same page.
They could have done something to retain the functionality versus taking out the functionality all together.  As of now, these functionalities do not exist.  I'm hoping that something is going to change and we'll have to see what the future brings.

  • What happened to the "Just Added" feature?

I used to rely on the "Just Added" feature and can't seem to find it in the new version of iTunes. Does it still exist?

I just figured it out. Put "Just Added" in the search field and hit enter. It takes you there.

  • What happened to the multi-touch imac

I heard from several people that apple has patented the idea of a multi-touch imac.
Is apple actually going to build it?

if I knew that I would probably be a rich man. they did file a patent that goes somewhat in that direction, that's all.
don't wait for it, it won't be coming for the next couple of years. get a magic mouse instead ^^

  • What happened to the "complete album" feature

is the "complete this album" feature still valid? if so, how do you access it? also, if i buy 2 songs from the same album from the amazon mp3 store, can i "complete the album" when they are in my itunes and be able to get the rest of the album minus the 2 songs for a lower price?

If you have eligible tracks, the "complete my album" link should appear under the Quick Links at the upper-right of the iTunes Store page once you've logged in. Note that not all albums are eligible.
if i buy 2 songs from the same album from the amazon mp3 store, can i "complete the album" when they are in my itunes and be able to get the rest of the album minus the 2 songs for a lower price?
No. Sorry, but why would you expect to get a discount from Apple on purchasing the rest of the tracks when you bought the initial tracks from Amazon? In such a case it would be up to Amazon to provide the "complete the album" feature.
    Regards.

  • What Happened to the Blackberry FIREWALL feature?

I loved that feature -- I was able to protect my phone with the FIREWALL -- I was able to block who I choose.
That was a wonderful feature -  please bring it back  - I was very disappointed.

    Hello,
I believe that technically, the Firewall for legacy BBOS was provided via integration with BIS. BB10 does not use BIS, and hence anything related to BIS no longer applies. Whether a replacement will or will not come to BB10 is something for speculation, but no authoritative information.
    Good luck!

  • What happened to the Organize Bookmarks feature it's missing?

I backup my bookmarks by exporting.

    Renamed to Show All Bookmarks.

  • What happened to the (thorough) search feature?

It no longer functions properly; I don't know how it worked under Leopard since I only used that for about a week before going to SL, but it functioned well under Tiger.
As an example, I indicated in the Spotlight Preferences that I did not want it to search Mail Messages, Contacts, Events, Images, etc, etc (the only things marked are Applications, System Prefs, Documents, and Folders). There is no option to select hard drive, system, etc.
In the resulting window, it also doesn't seem to matter if I choose to search "this mac" or "macintosh HD" or "contents" or "file name" - it just doesn't do a real search.
I searched for one of my third party applications by the developer's name (which is used in their preference file). The only things I got were the applications (there are several) and a slew of Mail messages (which I didn't want). Unlike Tiger, it did not show anything under Library/Application Support or Preferences and I know there are files/folders in both.
When I search, I usually do it because I need to uninstall and want to make sure I removed all the files - I do not care to see meaningless results in Movies, Fonts, Music, etc. But I do need to see where all the files are.
Unless there is a way I can get a fully functioning search function back, I'm about ready to abort Snow Leopard; I'm already annoyed enough about having to control click on all of my folders in the dock just to open them in list view. That's why I never used Leopard - I thought they would have included an option to do so by now.....but that's a topic for another thread.

Thanks for all the input - will try to address all:
Even if Spotlight is instantaneous, it is of no help if it only does a cursory, superficial, and therefore totally useless search. Apple had it right in Tiger, so there is no logical reason to drop it (except to dumbify it). I will send some feedback on this.
I had tried a search in Finder, but obviously did not see the drop down menus (probably because I was not expecting them). Anyway, I repeated my same search after following V.K.'s instructions and, voila, all of them showed up. But - again - in Tiger I just opened a finder window and typed the name in the search field and it worked; now I have to set certain parameters first. Annoying. But, thanks to you, at least I can get it to work ...

  • I'm using the great Firefox 5.o. What happened to the "Bookmark All Tabs" feature that used to be found under Bookmarks? I love Mozilla Firefox!!!! :-)

I've looked under the Bookmarks heading as well as History. What happened to the extremely useful "Bookmark All Tabs". Loved that feature of Firefox. Thank you!!!!!!

Right-click '''on''' a Tab to see that menu item or use {Ctrl + Shft + D}.
In conjunction with the new Firefox button in Firefox 4.0 and with the addition of some new features that added a number of new menu items, many of the older menu items were moved around or only appear under certain conditions. It can be a bit confusing until you get used to the changes, but beyond adding new menu items in the future for new features, I don't think there will be major changes like that for awhile.

  • TS2972 I just updated all of our computers to itunes 11 and now when we try to use our home sharing, we can't import songs.  What happened to the easily located "import song" feature?  I wish now that I wouldn't have updated to the new itunes 11.

I recently updated all of the computers in the house to itunes 11.  Now when we try to import songs from homesharing, we are unable to.  What happened to the conveniently located "import song" button on the old version of itunes.  Please help an old mother out please!

    diesel vdub, i use 11.1.1
solved the issue today. first sync with itunes, so all the stiff you bought on the mobile will be backuped.
    1. uncheck sync music in itunes and sync. all the music will be erased from mobile device
    2. check music player on the mobile device. just the unwanted songs will still be there
    3. go on the iphone to settings, general, usage, music player. there is just a few mb from the remaining unwanted songs. swipeleft and erase the content. switch iphone off and on again
    4. repeat step 2. there will be no data. otherwise repeat step 3
    5. check sync music in itunes and sync. all the music will be back again but not the unwanted songs.

  • Just upgraded to 5 from 3 - what happened to the page select icon? Can't find it in customize toolbars.

Used to be you could select which page you wished to go back or forward to from the arrow icons on the navigation toolbar. The history menu item only shows 10 sites without having to open history for today. What happened? Is there another icon or a new plug in for this functionality? I used it all the time.

''what happened to the page select icon (Back/Forward)''
The back/forward buttons have been moved to right-hand side of the navigation bar and the drop-down was removed. User right-click or hold click for one second to see the tab history. This is item #5 in my list.
The History menu also has "Open Previous session" and "Open closed windows",
to see more history use the History sidebar ("Ctrl+H") or the History Library List ("Ctrl+Shift+H") and sort or view by "Last visited".

    Hi g,
Many features have been lost in Numbers 3. You can send feedback to Apple with Menu > Numbers > Provide Numbers Feedback.

What has been lost in Numbers 3 is here (with corrections where Apple has already reinstated some lost features in the Numbers 3.0.1 update):

I enjoy running both versions of Numbers (Numbers 2 and Numbers 3) at the same time. They each have strengths and weaknesses.
Numbers 3 did not replace your Numbers 2 (Numbers '09). Look in a folder called iWork '09 inside your Applications folder. And enjoy.

  • ISE - What happens when the on-boarded certificate expires?

I'm trying to design a good BYOD deployment model but have a few questions that need direct answers.  I have down how to go about on-boarding and getting a certificate on a device, the ISE provides great flow for this to happen in many ways.  My questions come from a design perspective before and after the BYOD deployment is completed.
    1. Figuring out a method to validate the device is a Corporate asset or a BYOD asset.
(I don't want to install a certificate on just any device, or perhaps I do but I need to give permissions to all resources if its a Corporate Device, and more resitrictions if it's BYOD, so how do I figure this out during the provisioning phase?)
         a. Use MDM (May not have one, or if you do we are still waiting on ISE 1.2 for that integration)
         b. Build a Group for provisioning admins, if user PEAP-MSCHAPv2 account is from this group install a certificate. (issue here is that the end user looses administration of the device in the my device portal as the device is now registered to the provisioning admin)
         c. Pre-populate MAC into ISE as all Corporate devices should be provisioned by I.T. before they go to the end user (I think this is good but can see push back from customers as they don't want to add more time to the process)
         d. Certs on any IOS or Android device, provide access based on user group and do not worry if device is Company asset or not (I believe that this is the easiest solution and seems to be what I find in the guides)
         e. Other options I have not thought about, would love input from the crowd
    2. What happens to the device once the Certificate expires?
(I don't know the answer to this, my thought would be the user or device will fail during the authentication policy and this creates a mess)
         a. Tell the user to delete the profile so they can start all over again (creates help desk calls and frustrated users)
         b. Use MDM for Cert management (may not have one)
         c. Perhaps the client uses SCEP to renew based on the cert template renew policy and there are no issues (this is me wishing)
Would appreciate some feed back and would like to know if anyone has run into these issues.

    Neno,
Sorry but I don't have any other info on using a public CA, Cisco says to use internal CA's for PKI.  I think the best practice in 1.2 comes out will be to use one interface for Web Management and a different interface for Radius, profiling, posture, and on boarding.  This way you can use your private CA for EAP and a public CA for web traffic.  Have you tried a public CA bound to management and a private CA for EAP yet?
I did do a session on EAP-TEAP, they explained how it will work and also discussed EAP-FASTv2.  EAP-FASTv2 is available now but you must use anyconnect as your supplicant.  Microsoft and all other vendors will have EAP-TEAP native once it is fully released and comissioned as it will be the new gold standard for EAP.  It will support TLS, MD5, and CHAPv2.  If you are interested I have the PDF of the presentation I attended that shows the flow of how EAP-TEAP will work.  This is much better than wasMachineAuthenticated and machine auth caching, which has many down falls.
I currently do machine and user auth I just don't require them.  If Machine auth then allow machine on vlan-x with access to AD, DNS, and blah blah.  Then a seperate rule to say user auth gets more access, although I require EAP-TLS for both and if you think about it you are accomplishing the same thing if your PKI is setup correctly.  Make it so users and machines can only auto enroll, that way you know the only way they got their cert was from GPO policy.  I won't go into anymore detail, but there is lots you can do.
