What happened to the overwrite,always/ask/never pull down in the application builder. It was in 6.i. Any ideas on how to make the installer ask.
The builder in ver 6.0i had a pull down to address the over write issue for support files. My new ver 6.1 does not. Is there a work around, a solution, or a new ver on the way? Thanks
6.1 now uses the Microsoft Windows Installer. Information on that can be found here. I have download the SDK but haven't started to play around with it yet. There is editor included that I believe will allow you to change the settings in the msi file. I think right now, the default is to overwrite files if what's on the installer is newer.

Many suggestions can be found here
1. turn off push email and use fetch or manual fetch instead.
2. turn off or at least limit notifications
3. limit use of apps that use location services (eg. maps app - heavy power useage when running).
4. in General->About->Diagnostics & Usage, turn off Automatic sending.
5. Privacy->Location Services->System Services, disable everything (none of it need be running for normal use).
6. Wifi, turn off "Ask to Join Networks" so your device is not polling all open networks it finds.
7. keep brightness as low as you can get by with.
Finally, get a car charger, and a second charger for work/school and just plug in whenever it is convenient to do so.
Or, if it suits your daily routine better, get an external battery power brick or case and charge it periodically from that. -
I restarted my itouch using the home button and top button...it restarted but it only shows the apple logo and that is it. I deleted all files from ifile and then it froze... any ideas of how to make it work again?

Hi. I have a 2008 macbook pro 15.4 inch. Not abused but the hinge is stiff and the lid/ screen is starting to de-laminate at the bottom edge. Any ideas on how to make the hinge work a little more freely and how to re-seal the screen to the lid?
When you have kernel panics, the pertinent information is in the panic report.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway. -
Installed iOS6 on my 3GS phone. The maps app works well, but does not give spoken turn by turn directions.

my lock button broke a while ago on my phone, and two minutes ago my screen went comletely black. it was simply placed on my table. i know it didn't die because it was on 80%, but any ideas on how to turn it back on or what happened to my phone?
If plugging it into power doesn't cause it to power back on, you're going to have to make an appointment at the genius bar and get it serviced.

What happens when the iPhone needs an activation and it doesn't respond? Then it asks me to restore it but due to an unknown error (-1) the iPhone can't be restored.
Thank you for your response. However, I have done that plenty of times and each time I try to restore my phone, it extracts the software and then when it says restoring with the loading bar, an error message comes up saying an unknown error has occurred.

What happens when the computer get too full of e-mails? Will it automatically start deleting ... or give you some kind of warning?? I never delete personal mail right away since I might want to refer back to it, and then the first thing I know, I've got a big backlog.
It will not automatically delete any emails; you will need to do that. You may suffer performance issues in Mail if you let your mailboxes become too bloated. And, aside from Mail, the files take up a lot of room are photos, videos, and music, so you might want to watch those - every once in a while, check how much hard drive space you have and make sure you empty the trash regularly. Checking your hard drive space: highlight your Macintosh HD icon on the desktop; hit Command + I and check the total capacity, and how much is left.

What happened to the icon of the "house"? After searching the web or checking my e-mail I could alway click on the house to return to my home page. Now I have to keep clicking the back arrow or enter my home page on my google search. editThe home button has by default moved to the right hand edge of the navigation toolbar. You can move it back by right-clicking on a toolbar, choose customize to open the customize toolbar window, then with that window on display you can drag and drop icons to move them.

I have no use for Songs view. I always use Albums view (personal preference - I think of my library as a collection of albums, not of songs), but never had any problem at all with the use of the top-left icons in iTunes 12. Indeed, I much prefer the iTunes 12 version of the sidebar - ironically, for the reason that some seem to object to it: it doesn't clutter up a standardized listing of my library content with device-related information, and does not change if I connect an iDevice. In general, the only interaction I need at the device level is the Eject function - all content syncing is controlled through playlists associated with each device I use (which, of course, are visible and can be modified whether a device is connected or not). I only need to see the details of a device on the rare occasions I want to make a change to its behavior with respect to synchronization. -
What happens when the Time Machine drive is full?
I'm on my second iMac. My first one (G5, 1984) died, and I replaced it early 2010 with an Intel mac. The transition when exceedingly well largely due to Time Machine. I just hooked the Time Machine drive to the new system, and I was soon back up running!
My home folder has 70GB of data. The Macintosh drive has 105GB of data and 395GB free. The Time Machine drive has 220GB used and 30GB free.
1. What happens when the Time Machine drive is full?
2. Do I have control over what backups get deleted?
3. If lightning strikes twice, will I still be able to restore my Intel mac like my G5 mac, even if backups get deleted?
4. Is there anyway to control what backups/backup files get deleted?
5. Any other thoughts?

Do you mean all of them? The entire Backups.backupdb folder?
That's a large mess. First, even a normal delete will take a very long time, as there are probably hundreds of thousands, or even millions, of files. Your best bet by far is to simply erase them with Disk Utility -- that will only take a few moments. If your TM drive has a single partition, see #1 in [Formatting, Partitioning, Verifying, and Repairing Disks|http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/DU.html]. If there are other partition(s) on the drive, see #2 there.
If not, and you only deleted some of the folders, you have a different, worse problem. Unfortunately, Apple doesn't do a very good job of warning folks: +*Never move, change, or delete anything in your backups via the Finder or Terminal.+*
You shouldn't have to delete backups at all, since Time Machine will do that automatically when the disk/partition gets full. But you can do it without harm via Time Machine. See #12 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
A normal delete will take a very long time, as there are probably tens or hundreds of thousands of items, each of which must be individually deleted. A secure delete will take much, much longer, as each deleted file must be overwritten with zeros. -
My iPOD class (last generation) shuts off when jostled--like what
happens when the headphones come out. Is there any fix for this?I finally resolved my problem after spending way too much time on it. I simply handed my 160GB iPod to my husband to put his fav Stones & Beatles songs on and I went back to my 80GB Microsoft Zune which has never disappointed me.
After spending so much time trying to figure this out I did finally take it back to Apple Store who performed a diagnostic and found there was a problem with the device. They replaced it with a refurbished one which has similar issues. All I wanted to do was listen to my music. Was that too much to ask? So I am happy to be free of this problematic device. No more Apple for me!! -
What happens to the catalog with an improper shutdown?
I am wondering what happens to the catalog when lightroom does not shut down properly.
After using lightroom for almost 2 years with no problems, the past few days have just been insane with issues and lost work.
Today, our power went out while I was working and when I turned my computer back on, sure enough my catalog was corrupt.
Thankfully It was able to repair itself. It got me thinking though, I have had this happen a few times before in the past couple years and I have NEVER had a damaged catalog until this week. What happens with an improper shut down that screws the catalog up so badly?
I am now to the point where I am terrified to work in fear that I will lose everything. I am hoping the XMP thing will save my butt in the future, but should I always have to be worried like this? Lightroom just doesn't feel as strong as it used to now that everything we have worked on this week has been damaged...A crash of any sort while you're working with any complex application with major work going on is disheartening/frightening/annoying. I have been fortunate to have escaped any O/S or power deficiencies in my time with LR, but no one is completely immune.
If you have major stuff going on and aren't backed up the way you'd like, just quit LR, make a copy of the current catalog, .lrcat, and relaunch. You can also send the metadata to the files, as you've noted, but I like the former way. Or do both! -Hope this helps allay some fear.
