What happened to these knowledge base articles?

I work in the Information Technology infrastructure department of a medium-sized media company.  My employer still makes heavy use of Adobe Creative Suite 2, despite its age.  This is due to both compatibility and cost factors associated with upgrading all of our designers to new Macs with CS5.
Frequently, our Adobe CSx users complain about being unable to modify server-side files in Photoshop because it reports that the files are locked.  The specific error they receive is "Could not complete the request because the file is locked".  In the past, I found the following Adobe Knowledge Base articles for the varoius releases of Photoshop:
7.x - CS:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/322/322291.html
CS2:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/332/332534.html
CS4 - CS5:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406794.html
All three articles were nearly identical to one another, with the only real difference being in the "products affected" section.  If you follow those URLs, you will find that only the last one for CS4 and CS5 is working.  We found that pointing users complaining of the file locked error in Photoshop was a massive help to our case that users should copy the files locally, modify them, then copy them back to the server.  Once they saw the words from the horse's mouth, they stopped bugging us about the problem or accusing us of not knowing what we were doing.
Just today I had another CS2 user complain about this problem in Photoshop.  I went to give him the above URL for CS2, but decided to click the link first.  I found that it gave me a HTTP 404 "page not found" error.  I found the same thing with the 7.x - CS article.  As I said previously, we rely heavily on these knowledge base articles for backup on the information we were giving to the users on this issue.  We did not keep a PDF copy of the KB articles.
I understand that the versions 7.x - CS2 are old, but I have located other CS2 knowledge base articles that are still up.  I have also discovered a Japanese language version of the CS2 article I am looking for that is still published (http://kb2.adobe.com/jp/cps/231/231270.html).  Does anyone know where I might find the missing KB articles?  Would it be possible for me to contact Adobe directly?  We do not have an active support agreement.
Scott W. Sander

Many of our users are not sophisticated enough to try to search vendor knowledge bases for solutions to their problems.  It seems almost everyone submits helpdesk tickets to us for every problem they experience.  We have previously explained that the problem is inherent in the product, but it was not until we supplied the actual knowledge base articles from Adobe that it quited the users down.  They simply did not believe us and assumed we were incompetent because we were not able to solve the problem for them.
As for the CS4/CS5 link, thank you.  You are correct.  I had pasted them in from an old e-mail but the formatting was screwed up so I retyped them all manually and seem to have made a typo.
The suggestion about keeping the KB articles offline now is a good one.  I thought of that already and did previously save a copy of the CS4/CS5 article as a PDF before I created this thread.  The suggestion of modifying the HTML of the CS4/CS5 article to include the other versions is also good one, and I will probably do that.  But I still wish I could somehow access the real KB articles.  As I said in my first post, we found that users hearing it from the horse's mouth was really the only way to get them to believe us in most cases.  Of course, maybe they won't know the difference with this custom PDF.  It just seems a bit dishonest and there is a small risk of being caught.
I don't understand why Adobe would remove the articles for 7.x - CS2, even if they are old and not officially supported anymore.  Heck, CS2 was released in 2005 and there are Pagemaker articles still published and the last version of that was released in 2001.  What is laughable is that there is a link on the error pages to report a broken link, but if you click that all it does is take you to the normal support portal where there is no place to report broken links.
In any case, I will create the custom PDF but if anyone has an archived copy of the missing KB articles or knows how I might be able to get them from Adobe, please let me know.  Thank you.

  • Time Machine Knowledge Base Article Ineffective?

Hello. I'm still unable to see past backups using Time Machine in some folders, and I've followed the knowledge base article to the letter. The folder appears at the correct time and day of the backup, but it's empty. I've also followed other suggestions in discussions that deselect the external drive, reselect the drive, eject, restart the computer, etc., but to no avail.
What's interesting (and frustrating) is that the fix from the knowledge base article worked for a few days, but now I'm back to square one.
Can anyone help? It would be much appreciated, because I'm completely stumped.

    crinsf,
Well, I'm assuming that your problems are related to the "unknown" user or group ID problem that surfaces when one upgrades from Tiger to Leopard, as opposed to installing Leopard "from scratch."
Without going into all the gory details, suffice it to say that it is not an insurmountable problem. I'm not sure exactly how your backup may be affected, but we can certainly correct what is probably the root of the problem by running a command or two on your HOME folder. We can deal with the Time Machine backup afterward if it seems necessary, although I hesitate to do so.
First, let's establish that all of your files are properly located in your HOME folder. Also, that you are an admin user. Can you assure me that both of these statements are correct? If so, proceed with the rest of my instructions...
Open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal. At the prompt, copy and paste the following text into the Terminal window, then press <RETURN>:
    <pre style="overflow:auto; font-family: 'Monaco'; font-size: 10px">sudo chown -R `id -u`:`id -g` /Users/`id -un`</pre>
When you press <RETURN>, you will be asked for your admin password. Enter it (it will not be echoed) and again press <RETURN>.
If you are just now starting out with Time Machine, it may be easiest to simply delete your current Time Machine backup and start over, after you have run the command above. Since whatever backups that currently exist are incomplete, there's really no sense in keeping them. Just start over, and make sure everything is being copied properly this time.
If there are additional users on your machine, we will need to use other methods (which result in the same "fixes") to correct the problems there.

  • Computer requires the update described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article KB2619234

I have a Windows 2008r2sp1 server that I would like to setup a test environment for Exchange2013.  I have tried to install the prerequisites in the technet article here (technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb691354).  But when trying to install
the HotFix (437878_intl_i386_zip.exe) I am told that "This update is not applicable to your computer".  I tried to run the Exch2013 Install anyway after a few minutes it too tells me that "This computer requires the update described in
Microsoft Knowledge Base article KB2619234" and I have downloaded the file a second time and rebooted multiple times as well, but cannot seem to get past this HotFix install.  Can anyone tell me what I missed?

Is Windows Update is UpToDate? Try install all the required Update and reboot the server and check the issue.
If that doesn't help then I think you should give a try at Windows Forum

  • Knowledge Base article TS1245, cannot remove local KDC

*Section: To remove the local KDC from a system prior to creating a NetInstall image*
    *Step 4;*
Using Terminal, execute this command to force creation of a new local KDC on first boot:
    defaults delete "/Volumes/Source/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.configureLocalKDC" Disabled
    Returns
There is no (Disabled) default for the (/Volumes/{Volume name}/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.configureLocalKDC) domain.
    Defaults have not been changed.
    Am I doing something wrong?

Unless 10.5.6 changed something, I've been successful with a two step prep and one step post install step. To prep, do this before imaging:
1: Open Keychain Access, select the System keychain, and delete the three entries titled com.apple.kerberos.kdc
    2: Open Terminal and run
    sudo rm -fr /var/db/krb5kdc
3: Shutdown the master system and create your image.
After imaging the machine and booting the first time, run this from Terminal before binding:
    sudo /usr/libexec/configureLocalKDC
That is it and you are ready to go.
    Hope this helps

  • For 2-3 weeks, Firefox 10.0.2, freezes unexpectedly require restart and in some cases reboot of computer, what happened?

Sometimes it freezes in the middle of playing a video; and sometimes it it happens when I begin a copy and paste function. It's been happening almost daily, and sometimes 2-3 times in one day. I keep several tabs open at all times. I've been using Firefox for years and do not remember this happening before the past few weeks. I always update to the latest version. It does not seem to happen on my laptop, only my desktop. OS is Windows 7.

    Hey paradoxman316,
Have you tried starting Firefox in Safe Mode? Hold down "shift" while Firefox is starting up. If the crash doesn't happen in Safe Mode, you should read [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]].
There is also a lot of useful stuff in the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Firefox-hangs Firefox Hangs] Knowledge Base article. If you've recently upgraded, you might want to check out [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/latest-firefox-issues this article] as well.

  • Safari fails to display Apple knowledge base

I have a recurring problem with Safari (most recent verion, OS 10.10.2).
When I got to knowledge base articles at Apple support (http://support.apple.com/kb/) I get nothing but a blank page; no error message, zippo.
I have to go into Safari Prefs>Privacy>Remove all website data...>Details... find apple.com and delete all cookies, etc for that domain. Then it works.
It's rather annoying; how do I prevent this from happening over and over (aside from using Chrome...)?

Try Safari/Preferences/Privacy and delete the Apple cookie. Still not right, but that does it for me.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Or you can use your Apple ID to register with this site and go the Apple BugReporter. Supposedly you will get an answer if you submit feedback.

  • What happens to the data in apps that you choose not to backup with iCloud?

    Hi,
I have a 64b iPad and a lot of the storage is used up with data stored inside apps. Some of these data stores are 10s of GB in size. Such as, I keep some videos on my iPad that I play with VLC player. When I upgraded the iPad to iOS5 and activated iCloud backup, it immediately told me there wasn't enough room to back up my iPad entirely. I turned off backing up certain apps, such as VLC.
What happens to these apps? Are they still backed up during regular syncs with your Mac?

when you plug into itunes you can backup to both locations (icloud and locally) just not a the same time. When you click on your phone in itunes you'll see this option
click icloud then sync (will backup to icloud when you sync)
    afterwords
click back to this computer and sync
keep in mind that if icloud has a 5GB backup limite unless you upgrade it
    10GB — $20/year
    25GB — $40/year
    50GB — $100/year
    edit: forgot to say
if you don't sync with itunes to the computer then whatever doesn't go to icloud is not backed up at all.

  • What happens if Channel started but inactive?

    Hi.
While monitoring the training server, i found there are 100 channels with yellow color status "Channel started but inactive".
All these channels are not SOAP or MAIL channels. Most are FILE, JDBC, JMS channels.
I know that we can stop the channels in RWB but what happens if these channels are kept with that yellow status? If i stop these channels will it improve the performance??
Kindly let me know how it will effect the performance.
    Thanks... !
    Warm regards,
    Praveen.

    Hi,
While monitoring the training server, i found there are 100 channels with yellow color status "Channel started but inactive". - It means there was no msg for these channels so they are inactive......when there will be msgs for these channels, then those msgs will be processed by these channels and its status will change to running........
I know that we can stop the channels in RWB but what happens if these channels are kept with that yellow status? - No performance impact because of this inactive channels :).............
If i stop these channels will it improve the performance?? - Do not stop these channels but keep them started..........

  • What happened to my Lion Wallpaper?

I have Lion 10.7 and was using the new wallpapers. Now, my desktop wallpaper has reverted back to the Snow Leopard wallpapers I was using before installing Lion.  When I go to the System Preferences to change the wallpaper back, I'm only presented the SL wallpapers.  No Lion wallpapers exist anymore.  What happened to these and how do I get them back???

You need to upgrade and buy Mountain Lion Server from the app store for $20.

  • I have NO way to type in the website I'm looking for. What happened to the "address" field

When I'm on IE, I can type in the web address, hit "enter" and be directed to where I want to go. It is now missing from the Firefox application. Pretty weird.

    Hi ptorrie,
Try going to ''View > Toolbars > Navigation toolbar''. That will bring the address bar back.
I also see that you are running an older version of Firefox. You should consider updating. There are a lot of benefits to running the latest version of Firefox. If you are interested, take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[Updating Firefox]].

  • What happened to the Microsoft Office suite when I loaded Lion?

I loaded Lion operating system last night and rushed without reading all of the fine print. After the Lion was loaded I received a notice that Microsoft Office Suite was not supported. My questions are, 1) Can Lion support the Microsoft Office Suites (maybe a newer version) 2) Can I return to the previous Operating System?
    Never mind!
    Thanks

    1. Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 & 2011 versions support OS X Lion
    2. Yes, you can downgrade to Snow Leopard if you have up-to-date Time Machine backups, however I won't recommend you to do that.
Over the weekend Microsoft published a knowledge base article that outlines some known issues with Office for Mac on OS X 10.7. Overall, if you have Office 2004 and rely on it, then do not upgrade to OS X Lion until you have an alternative Office version installed (2008 or preferably 2011). Office 2004 is PowerPC code, and as with Intuit's Quicken 2007 and earlier versions, if you install Lion then you will not be able to launch Office 2004.
