What happened to thumbnails on older .ai files?

Any file created in a pre-CS version of Illustrator seems to display as a generic AI icon in Bridge CS3? CS2 worked fine. What gives Adobe???

Did anyone find an answer about thumbnails? I really miss having thumbnails in Illustrator. If anyone knows of a solution, please let me know. Thank you.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • Lion: What happened to "Dont Replace" when copying files?

Lion: What happened to "Dont Replace" when copying files?
That is such a MANDATORY option when copying files.
Ex: I want to copy my TV shows to a directory. Half of the TV shows are already in that directory. If I select REPLACE, then I have to WAIT for the duplicate files to overwrite. If I select KEEP BOTH, I end up with copies and it takes the same amount of time.
    What gives?

Apple removed it and the users here can't tell you why. Your best option is to send Apple feedback.

    Help!

My computer says the original files to my songs on itunes can't be found
This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .
If iTunes has broken entries for the missing tracks then it won't transfer the corresponding tracks from your iPhone or from your Purchase History. If you cannot locate the tracks anywhere, you can delete the entries and transfer/download them again if you are not worried about ratings/playlist membership etc. If these thigns are important to you then there is probably a way to download the media to a new libray, then reconnect the old library to the freshly downloaded tracks, e.g. with FindTracks.

  • What happened to my new iTunes Library file?

Hello. I created a new iTunes Library about two years ago, but I can only seem to find the files for my old Library (iTunes Library files that were last updated in 2008). I have the .xml file for my current Library, but not the .itl, which I now need. How do I find it/ access it/ save it?
    Thanks, fadingthunder.

What do you mean "it's saying that it can't "?
    Did you authorize the computer?
    Did you click File>Transfer Purchases?
    What exactly does it say?
Can you not copy everything from the old library to the new one?

  • What happens to autosaved copies when a file is deleted?

Was just working with a 1 GB image file in Preview. Used to work just fine in Leopard, but the autosave function in Lion keeps saving backups that I don't want. And not just diffs- I suspect it's saving copies of the entire file, because I have added >45 GB to my hard drive this afternoon just working with this single image! Finally completely crashed Preview and corrupted the file. I've deleted it, but the junk on my hard drive still remains. Will it be deleted on restart, or what? How can I root the copies out and get rid of them? At this rate, my hard drive will be full in a month.
Hate to say it, but I'm switching to a Windows machine now to work with this. At least it's predicatable.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
If you want to be sure, then open up Finder and check <your-home-folder>/Library/Mail. For every account set up in Apple Mail there is a folder there (labeled after the account) containing the messages.

  • What happened to Active Directory and Windows file shares?

    Hello all,
i have a few questiona about the integration in active directory. I recently updated to Lion (most certainly without proper risk analysis on the consequences...)
    First:
How can one connect to a windows share?
If trying in finder and CMD+k "smb://server/share" a message appears stating i have insufficient rights.
Great, in Snow Leopard one was presented a credentials window, where is it gone? (as most macbook users wont join the domain completely...)
    Next try: "smb://DOMAIN;User@server/share" same result...
    Second:
Is there any support for DFS (Distributed File System) included in Lion? This would be _very_ much appreciated!
    Thanks for your help (hopefully)

    Hi JFlynn12,
Are you using fully qualified DNS name for the server?
    ie:
if your realm is domain.company.com then your FQD for the server would typically be server.company.com. or server.domain.company.com . this is of corse assuming your DNS is properly set for the DNS / DHCP server. x.x.x.x => server.company.com and server.company.com => x.x.x.x .
With that in mind you would expect smb://server.company.com or smb://server.domain.company.com
give it a try, let me know if it works.

  • What happens to ability to work on files when ceasing subscription to PScc Photographer's package

I am contemplating subscribing to Adobe PhotoshopCC Photographer's package (Photoshop & Lightrroom). Currently have PS CS6 and LR4.  Will all previous files be able to be accessed and subsequently worked on if they were not changed using the new subscription? Wondering whether to just buy the upgrade to Lightroom.  i.e. if I cease subscribing, do I lose all the benefit of having paid for numerous previous purchases?

    Hi,
At present, if you delete a track from your library, instead of asking if you wish to delete from the cloud you are asked if you wish to hide song.
This indicates that the songs will remain on the Apple server. For how long, I do not know but certainly, songs deleted in the past have immediately been recognised as previously uploaded.
This obviously speeds up process if you have to rematch your library or decide to re subscribe at a later date.

  • Hey Forum Moderator ... what happened to the link to Preference file location??

There used to be link to a document describing the location of the Preferences files for various different versions of LR and various different operating systems.
That link used to be right here on the main page of the Lightroom Forum, but it's gone now.
    Can we have it back?

You mean the Overview page http://forums.adobe.com/community/lightroom?view=overview
I visit that page maybe once a month to remind myself where not to go for fear of getting lost.

  • What happened to the Easy Installation Setup File?

i have a BEFW11S4 router.  in the past, if i encountered trouble, i would just go to www.linksys.com/easy and download the installation file and it would set everything up for me.  where can that file be found now on the updated site?  i am having issues with my router and need to reset everything.

It seems that the website does not exist any longer, you can try to reset your router and re-configure it manually...
To reset the router press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • I would like to migrate from Aperture. What happens to my Masters which are on a RAID array and then what do I do with my Vault which is on a separate Drive please ?

I am sorry, but I do noisy understand what happens to my RAW original Master files, which I keep offline on a RAID array and then what I do with my Vault which as all my edited photos ? Sorry for such a simple question, but would someone please help my lift the fog ?
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Dear John ,
Apologies, as I am attempting to get to the bottom of this migration for my wife ( who is away on assignment ) and I am not 100% certain on the technical aspects of Aperture, so excuse my ignorance.
She has about 6TB worth of RAW Master images ( several 100 thousand ) which, as explained, are on an external RAID drive. She uses a separate Drive as a Vault . Can I assume that this Vault contains all of her edits, file structures , Metadata, etc ?
So, step by step........She can Import into Lightroom her Referenced Masters from her RAID and still keep them there ? Is that correct ?
The Managed Files that are backed up by her Vault , are in the pictures folder of her MacPro, but not in a structure that looks like her Aperture library ? This means Lightroom will just organize all the Managed files, simply by the date in the Metadata ? Am I correct ( Sorry for being so tech illiterate ).
How do I ensure she imports into Lighgtroom in exactly the same format as she runs her workflow in Aperture ?  ( Projects, that are organized by year and shoot location and Albums within those projects with sub-locations, or species , etc ). What exactly do I need to do in Aperture please to organize Managed Files to create a mirror structure of Aperture on my internal Hard Drive ?
There are a couple of points I am unsure about in regard to Lightroom. Does it work in the same way as Aperture ? Meaning, can she still keep Master Files on an external RAID and Lightroom will reference them ? If the answer is yes, how do you back up your Managed ( edited ) work in Lightroom ? ( Can you still use an external Drive as a Vault ? ) . Will the vault she uses now be able to continue to back up Managed Files post migration ?

  • Import from catalog: what happens to this catalog ?

    Hello everyone!
I follow Scott Kelbys LR3 book for transferring my work from my studio laptop to my main processing computer in my office using the EXPORT TO CATALOG technique.
So then I transfer the folder to where I keep my LR pictures in MY  COMPUTER. Then I IMPORT AS Catalog into LR.
QUESTION: What happens to the LRcat and LRdata file I imported afterwards? Are they copied or otherwise incorporated into my MAIN LRcat or is it safe to DELETE the imported LRCAT  & LRDATA files because they are now part of the MAIN catalog?
I hope this is clear...   Thanks!

I'm almost certain you can delete the catalog you imported from. But to be sure, you could create an exported catalog with one image in it, import it into your main catalog, then delete the one you imported from and see what happens.

  • Out-of-Place Upgrade. What Happens to.......

    Hi Folks
I have some questions for those of you that have installed 11g on Windows OS before I get into the installation itself
I currently have 11.2.0.3 installed and I want to install 11.2.0.4
    There are two options:
    1. In-Place Upgrade (which I have always done with my Oracle10g databases and servers)
    2. Out-of-Place Upgrade (which I have never done)
My questions refer to option 2
    My current oracle home is
    E:\App\Oracle\
    E:\App\Oracle\product\11.2.0.3\dbhome1
I want to install into 11.2.0.4
    E:\App\Oracle\
    E:\App\Oracle\product\11.2.0.4\dbhome1
    1. What happens to all the folder and files under E:\App\Oracle ?
    i.e.
    \admin
    \cfgtools
    \checlpoints
    \diag
    etc
Do they get over written ?
Will it not install because it already exists ?
Do I have to create a new location then ?
    2. I have services already configured for 11.2.0.3
How do the new services for 11.2.0.4 get created if they already exist for 11.2.0.3
    11.2.0.3
    i.e. Listener = OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSlistner
and all other oracle services that get created at install time
For my Database service do I have to delete it and re-create it with ORADIM ?
    Thanks
    Jim

I have no experience with Windows - but your approach is correct. The contents of those directories will not be overwritten - any new files will be added to those directories. As always, take a full backup of the existing home before installing a new home - and test all of these processes/steps on a test server (and validate) before touching production servers.
As far as services, you will have to de-register and re-register using ORADIM - see Step 7 in MOS Doc 1276368.1
