What happened to Tools/Options/Applications

I am using 3.6.17 and can no longer figure out how to change my PDF viewer. On a previous system running with Firefox 2 I added Foxit as an alternative to Acrobat and want to do the same on this one.
The Tools/Options menu has gone from:
Main
Tabs
Content
Applications *
Privacy
Security
Advanced
to
Main
Tabs
Content
Feeds *
Privacy
Security
Advanced
What is Feeds and where has Applications gone?
Nowhere can I find any other method to change what software Firefox is using to open application files.
Mozilla Help has proven useless e.g. the information at
"http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing file types"
and
"http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Opening PDF files within Firefox"
describe using Tools/Options/Applications but there is no Applications any more.
I've read the uses of about:config but nothing in the list seems relevant to PDFs.
Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Your issue with a missing Application tab can be caused by an extension or theme that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
* https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
* [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]

  • Can't access Tools/Options/Applications in FF 12.0

Every time I try to do the following in FF 12.0, the browser stops responding/hangs/freezes/basically says "sorry, dude:"
    1. Download files either by right clicking and choosing "save" or clicking directly on it. This includes email attachments, videos, etc. I also cannot attach files to emails since the same thing happens the moment I hit "Browse."
    2. Cannot access Tools/Options/Applications, usually getting the same results. In my various attempts to resolve this, I have been able to open that window, but the space where file associations are listed is empty.
If it's any help, when I've reverted back to FF 3.5.1.9, I can do all those things ... I just can't get "Words With Friends" to load in Facebook.
What I have done in an attempt to correct this issue:
1.) Everything, including deleting the various .rdf files, etc.
2.) Tried starting in safe mode, using every possible variation.
3.) Uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox around a hundred times, removing personal settings and cleaning the registry each time.
4.) Uninstalled and reinstalled Flash and Java three or four times each.
    5.) Everything.
I am at my wit's end, thus the request for help. Unfortunately, if someone offers a solution, I've probably tried it.
Additional information: I did use firetune once, returned to the backup configuration I created, used it again and returned to the backup again. This seems to be right around the time the problems began, but I'm not positive.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Running WinXP Media, 512MB RAM, 32-bit, etc.

Actually, Matt, I have tried that, but I certainly am willing to try again. Do you suggest deleting the current profile and all its settings, deleting the profile and keeping the personal settings, or just adding another complete profile in addition to the one that currently exists?

  • I can't open .doc downloads with MS Office. I click tools-options-applications and Word is not in the list of choices. I browse and double click MS Office to choose it only to get more subfolders. How do I choose Office?

When I receive a .doc (or .docx) to download from an email, open office or another similar application is chosen to open it instead of MS Office Word (have 2007 student). When I go to Tools>Options>Applications, Word does not appear on the list. When I use the Browse button, I cannot choose Word either. I double click on the MS Office folder only to get more subfolders.

    Every time Firefox opened
== I think it's always been the case

I have a similar problem. Even though Word is listed under Firefox applications as opening .doc files, when I try to download a .doc file, it always asks me to choose an application and I have to go through an extra three steps to open Word.

Previously, when I clicked onto an email link, my gmail would open up.
    Now, nothing happens.

  • How do I get Adobe Acrobat to appear in the Conent Type listins under Tools/Options/Applications

I want PDFs to open in Acrobat within the browser and not open up the Acrobat application. The Firefox 4.0 Help lists the way to do this, but Acrobat does not appear in my list under Tools/Options/Applications, so I'm stuck with no answer

    Hi ITBobbyP,
According to your description, you want to change the View report color in VS 2013. Right?
In this scenario, the button shows white text in a grey background because you select the
Dark in color theme. Please go to TOOLS->Options->General->Environment, we just need to change
    Blue or Light.
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • I am running OSX Lion 10.7.4 and the computer no longer will go into sleep mode when I close the cover What happened with this option?

I am running OSX Lion 10.78.4 and the computer will no longer go into sleep mode when I close the cover. In system preferences I can no longer find the option that allows for this energy saving feature. What happened to this option and why is this no longer happening with the latest version of Lion?

No external monitors or devices attached. When you mention that this function only works when devices are attached that is true when you set up your preferences that way. Up until my upgrade to Lion the computer would always go into sleep mode when I closed the lid. There also used to be an option to check in system preferences that allowed you to choose this option. My question for the discussion is what happened to that option and how do you get the computer to sleep or at least the display to sleep when you close the lid as we have been able to do in the past. Thanks.

  • What happened to the "options" button in iTunes 5?

    Hello -
I just upgraded from a 4G 20G to a 60GB. Now I want iTunes to not transfer unchecked songs.
What happened to the options button that used to reside at the bottom of iTunes? And where do I control iTunes to not transfer unchecked songs?
    Thanks in advance.

Nevermind, I finally found the tab. Silly Apple...

  • What happened to the option to see all your purchased movies alphabetically?  I can only see recent purchases and then I have to look by movie type.  With over 500 movies purchased this is a huge pain.

What happened to the option to see all your purchased movies alphabetically?  I can only see recent purchases and then I have to look by movie type.  With over 500 movies purchased, this is a huge pain.  For instance the movie Airport 77 is classified as Drama not action?  But it is action?  I have to look at both types to find the film.  I will stop buying films via AppleTV if this is the way it is going to stay.  I am not searching for films in this crazy manner.

Same issue here. Might have to do with size of library. I too have over 300 purchased movies. "ALL PURCHASED" folder disappeared yesterday on all my AppleTV's. My son only has 20+ purchased movies and his still shows "ALL" folder. However, I had him log in under my account and "ALL" folder is missing??? I hope Apple gets this resolved quickly. I too do not want to flip through various Genres looking for movies.

  • New computer ff install not listing all file types under tools-options-applications

New windows installation on another with the same version of ff (10.0.2). Clicking local .pls files in this machine gives option to launch VLC media player but on other computer just text appears.
The extension appears in the applications tab after clicking tools and options on this computer, but the list is far shorter on the other machine and does not include this extension. Is this rectified by installing a plugin? If so which one?

The issue isn't that VLC isn't playing the files- it is... but linking to the files saved on my system does not launch VLC from Firefox on the other computer like it does on this one. I've actually been able to add to the applications list. Technically I can run the same apps and associations on both machines except that Firefox isn't handling the ".pls" files at all with the other machine
I've saved a directory structure with .pls files to different streaming radio stations and the directory is linked to from Firefox on both computers... identical directories and files stored. When I bring up one of the folders in this machine and click on the file, I first get the same dialog as you attached- I launch VLC by selecting "Open with" then clicking OK. The radio station plays. I've set it to change stations when I click within the iframe without having to go to VLC and use the open media feature- it does the trick with a single click from Firefox,
The other machine when I click the file the iframe in which the directory was displayed shows text information (urls and other arcane digital nonsense) as though the file were a text file. Both machines have similar installations.... I do not want to overload on the other machine- it's my communications backup but I would like this arrangement to work as it does on this computer.
Again, the biggest hint I see is the absence of the ".pls" file type in the list under the "applications" tab after clicking "Tools"-"Options" in Firefox on the machine in question.
Can something be done either by transplanting missing files from one machine to the next or from about:config to induce the desirable result from the other machine in Firefox?

  • What happened to visualizer options

    what happened to visualizer options

    What a very good question!
I was missing the Options tab as well and this solved the problem. After thinking about it: How could a shutdown signal find its way to the Computer through the video channel alone...?
This issue is not mentioned in the documentation.
    Thanks,

  • What happened to the option to upload a photo that I receive in e-mail to iPhoto?

Now that I upgraded to Lion, the option to upload a photo that I get from an e-mail to iPhoto is no longer there.  Now I have to save it to a file and then go to iPhoto and upload it to the ibrary from there.  It's a big pain!!

As I remember, that pop-up box disappeared after Firefox 3.5, as well ask the "Ask me before clearing..." option check box. I no longer find this option in the privacy settings under the Tools/Options menu. Is there a setting I can modify in the config file to reactivate this function?

  • What happened to Tools Reports option in RoboHelp 10?

I use the Tools>> Reports option alot and just used it a few weeks ago.  Now as of Friday, I am unable to see them in the menu.  Does anyone have any idea as to what has happened to them?  In fact, I can not find those reports at all in RH.  Am I just looking in the wrong place?
I welcome any assistance I can get to try to resolve this. Thank you in advance!

Tools > Reports is the right route.
Try right clicking the menu area and selecting Customise, then select Menu Bar and Reset. You could lose changes you have made but hopefully this will restore what is missing.
I don't think I have seen this happen before.

  • I just upgraded to the newer version and I can't find the tools option to enable my other proxy. What happened to tools? How do I downgrade to the old firefox?

I can't find any of the tabs for tools to switch to my manual proxy. Also, it disable a lot of tabs I use to have.

You can now find "Options" and all the other common menu commands by clicking on the orange "Firefox" button. Or you can also tap the "alt" key on your keyboard to bring back the old menus like File, Edit, and Tools.

  • What happened with javax.faces.application.Action ??

Can someone explain me how to perform the Action with new JSF libraries. I really do not understand why the Action class is not available in new JSF libs?
    <h:command_button value="#{bundle.recalculate}"
    action="#{carstore.currentModel.updatePricing}"
    immediate="true" />
This is the command_button out of car demo.
The boundle.recalculate is probably an recalculate string specified in Resources.properties. But where? In WEB-INF\classes\cardemo or in WEB-INF\classes\carstore\bundles? How can I specify this in my application? I
Can anyone explain me the meaning of the new action attribute?
    What is carstore?
    What is currentModel?
    What is updatePricing?
How can I compare this to the old Action-s invoke() method?
    Thanks.
    Nermin B.

    Hi Kim Topley,
Thank you very much. Your respond helped me a lot. I
was about to start rebuilding my code to the new JSF,
but unfortunately I did not understood to much looking
    thro examples.
    action="#{carstore.currentModel.updatePricing}"
The getCurrentModel() is simple returning an object
from type CarBean and updatePricing is an method
    called from this object.
What is the advantage of using such an structure (2
Layers), instead of specifying the CarBean in
    faces-config.xml and calling its method
updatePricing() One reason is that the getCurrentModel() method returns the user's current
choice of car, which can vary. The other reason is (I 'm guessing - I haven't looked at
this sample in any detail) that the cars are all created in the application model
and therefore do not need to be instantiated as required by the managed beans
    feature.
or in that case it will be
"getUpdatePricing()" directly? (1 Layer)In a method binding, the last part of the name is always the full method name.
The mutation to "getXXX", "isXXX" or "setXXX" happens only for a value binding.
    >
Is there any other limitation regarding
updatePricing() method except that it must have no
arguments and it must return a String? Not that I am aware of.
    >
    >
I must say the new feature <f:loadBoundle > is an
great feature, and I am very glad to have something
    like this.
Do you know if bundle is being loaded for every
request new, or if let say English bundle is loaded
once, it stays in application request for the rest of
time?It is loaded for each request. However, this is not as bad as it seems,
because the ResourceBundle class keeps a cache, so it is likely that
most loads will be satisfied from the cache with almost no overhead.

    Thanks:
    Nermin B.
PS: I am very glad to see some movements here in JSF
forum. Last few weeks we have not seen to many
