What happened to "Watch this user"?

Hello,
I used to be able to select "Watch this user" similar to how I can select "Watch this topic".
This was a great feature when I found someone who seemed to work on similar issues as I am.
Now I can no longer see that feature. What happened?

Thank you both for replying. If I could I'd assign "Solved Problem" to both your replies but I can't. So I did the next best thing and assigned "Helpful Answer" to Craig's and "Solved Problem" to Mark's.
The only reason I gave Mark more is because it actually had instructions for how to do it.
Thanks again to both of you. I understand the privacy issue but I really miss the feature. I think it'll be hard to get people to turn it back on.
Oh well. It was nice while it lasted.

How does notification about this kind of change get out to people? This isn't a minor change. Was there some notification and I just don't know where to look?

Some of the functions of Color have been incorporated into FCP X, meaning you will have more than the 3-Way-Color-Corrector but less than Color.
Since you cannot share projects between FCP and FCP X, you might want to stay with FCS if you rely on Color.

What happens to old iPhone users

To all AT&T or Apple employees out there on Apple Discussions,
Let's say, hypothetically, my old first generation iPhone breaks, and it is still under warranty (and it is replaceable by the warranty). What happens? Won't Apple have to give me the new 3G as a replacement? But will my plan remain the same, or will I have to upgrade just because my phone broke?
Also, is there an easy way for earlier iPhone owners to upgrade to the new 3G (I am expecting to fork over some money to do this, but it would be cheaper/easier than just buying a whole new phone with a new number and new plan)?

You will get a first generation iPhone. They have plenty for repair/refurbishment issues.

You do it like everyone else. Go to an Apple or AT&T store. You can keep your same number.

What happens to my local user data? -newbie question sorry

Firstly apologies if this seems a dumb question, I've scoured the forums but I require something that fits my specific situation.
I've had a (my first) MacBook for about 9 months, built up a fairly healthy local user, setup just how I like it, MobileMe, iTunes, Chrome, iPhoto library, lots of other apps, etc etc and so forth.
I'm setting up a Mac Mini Server, and was wondering what I can do to join the new server, but take all my settings/downloads/iTunes etc with me... I don't want it all stored on the server, but I come from a Micro$oft Windows background. With MS, when you add a PC to a domain, login with the appropriate user account, you have a fresh profile, no settings, no files, no customisations etc etc is this also the case when I hit that Join Network Account server button on my Mac? Will I get a blank fresh account on my Macbook?
I'm guessing this must happen quite often as people start their way into Apple technology and build up a nice healthy local account before branching further into the Apple world...

The two laptops I use everyday have access to all the servers via my network account. It is set so that my user account is listed as having "no home" So I log into the laptop with my local user account with a UID of 501 but access all the network services via the go menu and my network account of the same name but with a UID of 1034.
For all other users in the company, if they are on a laptop, I use network accounts. The machines are managed to ask if the user wants to create a mobile account when they login. For permanently assigned laptop users, the answer is yes. This puts their home on the laptop and ties them to that machine. I use mobile account syncing to make sure their critical data is copied to the server for backup.
By having the machine ask to create the mobile account, users can answer no and login to their network home. The use of the laptop may be needed temporarily if a regular workstation is down.
Once in a while I will need to convert a local account to a network account. While a bit more laborious that setting it up correctly at the beginning, it can be done.
But I never let any user account have the UID of 501. I would set that up as the local admin account I use for installing updates and performing other maintenance. If needed, I would back up the user data and erase and re-install the OS.

Once this process is done, is there a way to delete my first user account on my Mac? I mean, this is saying that everything will transfer to a new account; it won't merge with your current account on the Mac. I only want ONE user account on my MacBook. But then again, what about the apps I've installed and am using, such as Final Cut Pro or Pages? Will they be gone on my new user account that has my migrated data? Thanks in advance!

Sorry, to clarify "once this process is done" - I'm talking about once Migration Assistant is done. I'm migrating my data from my old PC laptop to my new MacBook Pro.

What happened to "bookmark this page" selection in the "show your bookmarks" menu on the right?

Now I have to:
1) click again on the stupid blue star to get the menu to place my new bookmark where I choose to instead of have it go to unsorted bookmarks...
OR
2) bring up or have up the menu bar and click on the "bookmarks" menu choice of "bookmark this page" which brings up what I'd call the choice or sort menu that lets me access my bookmarks menu...
...where I wanted to go to create a bookmark AND I get to select "choose", which is what I used to do when adding ANY bookmark.
I want the "bookmark this page" selection back on the "show your bookmarks" list on the right...where it belongs. Why does everyone want to keep hiding the useful tools?
Firefox 29 stinks and I've had nothing but problems from the beginning...and since making the mistake of resetting.
I now have a folder of stuff that I have no clue what to do with as, upon resetting, I got "Oooops this is embarrassing, we're having a problem" or something. Any clues about what to do with all that "junk" (now, to me) might also be helpful.

I was used to being able to select the folder to place my bookmark without going into an edit session. This is as useless now as windows "libraries"

What happens if I change user id

My phone interest my two macs as the same computer. To fix this, I am going to change the user id. When I do this, how will it affect my other devices as well as my computer.

Having different account names shouldn't affect any other devices. I assume you mean that both computers have the same user id name and showing the same host name. They do have different mac addresses and should still be fine. But instead of changing the user id of your account, try changing the computer name in System Preferences in the Sharing Pane so it will be different than the other.

What happened? After this morning Firefox's update, I couldn't get into Firefox but got this message, "The application failed to start because it's side-by-side configuration is incorrect.

This morning I went to go into Firefox, a message came up stating it was updating. After the update, Firefox didn't open, so I clicked on the icon and got this message. C:\Program Files (x86) Mozilla Fire\firefox.exe. The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. I tried removing & re-installing and I even try the Window's restoration point of a couple days back and I still get the message. Has anyone had or have this problem?

That SxS error seems to be caused by a corrupted Visual C installation that requires some DLL files to be reinstalled.

What happens to a new user of iOS8 with one Apple ID?

I have one Apple ID that my wife and I use. I updated both iPone 5s' and her iPad Air. All of a sudden incoming calls started ringing on both phones whether they were calling me or her and the iPad was showing an incoming FaceTime call. iMessages began showing up on both phones and the iPad. I went to the Genius Bar for help with the phones, iPad, and my MacBook Pro for help. I knew the problem was in the settings somewhere. They showed me that I needed to set the Messages and Facetime settings the way I wanted these services to work. They found the phone numbers were not set up correctly and fixed that. Last evening my wife and I decided to check if everything was working as expected. We used our home phone to call each number and still had the same issue!!!! All the devices were ringing at the same time again. I went into the Messages and FaceTime settings again and unselected our Me, Mac, and iCloud addresses leaving the phone numbers as the only active service. IT WORKED!!!
Have any of you who have one Apple ID had to deal with any other frustrating issue?

Hello de.donna2, I personally have not but my family all share the same account and trust me it is frustrating. So what I would advise doing is creating another account and then link it up with the new family share setting. Here you will be able to download each others apps and see what the other is doing.

What happened to Watch indicators? (the binoculars)

As of 9:30pm (US central time) they're gone from the threads I've participated in.
As of 10pm they are visible again.

What happened to "me View" and "personalize"?

I've just spent 30 minutes trying to figure out what happened to my very carefully constructed and personalized "My View" page. I'm either exceptionally dense this morning or it has vanished.
I had spent a good amount of time on setting up a few "watch this user" - they seem to be gone as well.
Could someone either help me bang my head against the wall or confirm that those features are gone?

My personalized Your View is present, and its Watch A User (me) works just fine.

My old Intel-Based iMac is no longer recognizing USB wired input devices; it only recognizes Bluetooth. What happened?

My friend's old Intel-Based iMac is no longer recognizing USB-wired input devices (Kensington TrackBall, Logitech Mouse) plugged into any USB slot at the back of the computer.
They were working before and for many years.
All of a sudden, A pop up window came up. IT said no Bluetooth mice could be found. We don't know what set off that window to pop up and look for a WL mouse. It never has before in the 5 or more years my friend has been using this computer.
I supplied a wireless Apple mouse and his is back running again.
But want to know why his USB-input devices (Except his keyboard) are not being recognized. He would prefer to use his Trackpad (Wired), but can't find anything in SYstem PReferences to allow that. The computer only seems to want a Bluetooth input device.
Anyone have an idea what happened and if this can be reversed?
I think he is still running Mac OS X 10.5.8.

reset FW bus, same goes for USB reset...
Reset the Firewire bus
If your Firewire or USB isn't recognizing any device. A solution which has worked for some whose hard drive became invisible in 10.4 was simply to follow these four steps to reset the Firewire/USB bus:
1. Shut the machine down.
2. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any firewire/USB drive/devices.
3. leave it for 10 minutes.
4. Connect back up and reboot.
