What happened with this latest update?

My Skype automatically updated on Monday or Tuesday, and now I'm not receiving messages nor are any of my contacts showing as being online. What did they do THIS time? Is it just me, or does it seem like every time Skype updates, it performs worse than before?

Is your connection status on Skype Online? The status icon next to your name must be solid green with a white checkmark inside.

Make sure your apps are updated. You might try Settings > iTunes & App Store > Automatic Downloads - Updates = "On".
You cannot go back to an old operating system.

created by m_vargas in Installing Flash Player - View the full discussionHi, We have several different installer files. Having the file name narrows down which one is being problematic. There was a Flash Player release earlier this morning and several files have been updated. Please try downloading again. If you experience the same problem, please clear the browser cache, as the old one may still be downloading. If the issue persists after clearing the browser cache, please post the name of the file that is being downloaded. Thank you. --Maria If the reply above answers your question, please take a moment to mark this answer as correct by visiting: https://forums.adobe.com/message/7437403#7437403 and clicking ‘Correct’ below the answer Replies to this message go to everyone subscribed to this thread, not directly to the person who posted the message. • I am running OSX Lion 10.7.4 and the computer no longer will go into sleep mode when I close the cover What happened with this option?

I am running OSX Lion 10.78.4 and the computer will no longer go into sleep mode when I close the cover. In system preferences I can no longer find the option that allows for this energy saving feature. What happened to this option and why is this no longer happening with the latest version of Lion?

No external monitors or devices attached. When you mention that this function only works when devices are attached that is true when you set up your preferences that way. Up until my upgrade to Lion the computer would always go into sleep mode when I closed the lid. There also used to be an option to check in system preferences that allowed you to choose this option. My question for the discussion is what happened to that option and how do you get the computer to sleep or at least the display to sleep when you close the lid as we have been able to do in the past. Thanks.

• I just received a Security Update from Apple for OS 10.6.8 and have experienced a severely slow reboot, taking 15-20 minutes. Applications take forever to load. Have rebooted twice... very slowly. What's up with this latest update?

When I clicked on the recent Apple Security Software Update, it took 15-20 minutes to install, and another 15 minutes or more to restart. Then everything was amazingly slow, as if nothing was happening... spinning gears, spinning color wheels. The background universe image took forever to load. Desktop took a long time to load. Then Mail and Safari took a long time to load. What has happened? Was this update legit? I'm thinking it was the legitimate listed 7-2-2013 update for 10.6.8, but in my 15 years of Apple loyalty, I've never experienced an update that bogged my system down like this.

Not enough free space on the startup disk can cause the issues you are referring to.
Control click the MacintoshHD icon on your desktop then click Get Info.
You'll see: Capacity & Available
Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.
If it's not a disk space issue, verify the disk for errors.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If Disk Utility reports problems, you will need to insert your install disc to make repairs.
And if you have not done so lately, backup all your important data just in case.

• Taking a lot longer to hook up iDisk with this latest update

Every time I restart, it takes an awful long time for iDisk to show on my desktop, and while I wait for it to come up, if I do anything with the Finder, such as open the hard disk or try to access any of the menus, I get the spinning beach ball of death -
so I go to Force Quit to see if I can clear the hang up, and every time, without fail, the Finder is the one not responding and I have to restart the finder.
I still have to wait for the iDisk to be found, and then I can finally do stuff.
I never had this problem before the latest software update and battery update. I know I've got enough RAM, I don't use anything memory intensive and I am quite diligent about not having too many Apps running - I never have more than 3 at the same time, and they're usually little Apps, I certainly don't have anything like Photoshop or Word or Excel or iMovie or DVD Player or such running at the same time.
Why is it taking so long now to get the iDisk to show? I feel like I took a step back in the computer's speed lately.
Any thoughts? I've run the usual stuff, Onyx, restarted a few times, checked my Prefs, but it's the Finder, so I'm stumped. It can't be the memory!
Help.

• Is Roboform going to work with this latest "update"? Last update I lost use of RF and had to re-purchase in order to use! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!

I CANNOT lose Roboform....I consider it the MOST IMPORTANT "add-on" I use and will NOT update FF at the expense of losing RF! PLEASE!
There are occasional unexpected FF crashes - and "report" is usually filed when this happens...just wish it didn't happen when I'm in the middle of something - like in the middle of a long video - yes, FF does recover - but I have to go through the entire video, etc. just to get back to where I was when crash occurred.
Otherwise, FF is indispensable...IMO far more dependable than IE - and at least I FEEL like I'm not being monitored with everything I do online..as an online 'activist' of sorts (thoroughly non-threatening though I be! :>)) I have NEVER liked the idea of being 'stared' at - and with IE it always seem to crash when I am on a Conservative website - or doing something really threatening like studying the Constitution!

Swarnava, it is the other way as it is Roboform 7.6.2 and newer that compatible with Firefox 8.0 and is best to use with Firefox without causing Firefox 8.0 to crash.
Also if you are getting crashes due to using a older version 7.6.1 and older (and cannot or will not update to 7.62 or newer) then you could try Firefox 8.0.1 from www.mozilla.com instead.

• HT4972 What happens with games when updating from 5.1.1 to 6 or 7?

Do you loose history on games when updating to latest software?

You shouldn't but backups are always recommended. If you have a iPad 1 (no camera) you won't have this problem. iPad 1s can't be upgraded beyond IOS 5.1.1.

• With this latest update (on 4/10/15) I am unable to access a secured work website due to the TLS. How do I revert back to the previous settings?

I need to revert the security settings back to the way they were BEFORE the update because now I am unable to access my secured work website (that I was on yesterday) to actually do work. When I attempt to go to my log-in page I get the following message:
Secure Connection Failed
The connection to corect.ct.gov:10000 was interrupted while the page was loading.
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.
It doesn't even give me the option to allow the site (it is my computer after all, it should be my choice). I NEED TO GET TO THIS WEBSITE.

The website may try to fallback to TLS 1.0 in a way that is no longer allowed in current releases or may be using a deprecated cipher suite.
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar and use its search bar to locate this pref:
*security.tls.insecure_fallback_hosts
You can double-click the line to modify the pref and add the domain (corect.ct.gov) to this pref.
If there are already websites (domains) in this list then add a comma and the new domain (no spaces).
You should only see domains separated by a comma in the value column.

out of the blue, bind crashed on this internal caching/forwarding BIND nameserver. all attempts to restart it would immediately result in the same exact error output, and the only solution was to reboot the server. haven't seen it since.
just a spurious error?

• What happened with this DVD?!

Built, formatted, and burned a regular DVD-R in DVDSP, using my internal G5's burner. It plays fine on my Mac, and also on my set-top player.
Tested it on my PC laptop and got these results:
VLC Media Player - can't even launch it
Intel WinDVD (something like that, came with Sony laptop) - plays it OK
Windows Media Player - plays it at double speed, audio sounds like the Chipmunks.
Any suggestions? Should I try burning in Toast instead?

Lots of issues, long story short lots of gotchas for DVDs in Windows from DVD SP (and also in general).

• I have just agreed to software updates on my imac and now can't open my mail. There is a message saying this version of mail isn't compatible with this latest software. I have located the updated mail in the applications folder but it won't open. Help!

I have just agreed to software updates on my imac and now can't open my mail. There is a message saying this version of mail isn't compatible with this latest software. I have located the updated mail in the applications folder but it won't open. I don't have the original operating software disk. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Your reply suggests that you have moved Mail to a different location, which (as I said) will prevent it from being properly updated. You cannot use Mail 4.5 with any recent version of Mac OS X. Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) included Mail 5 and Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) includes Mail 6. I'm assuming that you have either Lion or Mountain Lion, but if that is incorrect, you will need to provide that information.
At this point, you will need to reinstall your system. Hold down command-R at startup and reinstall the system right on top of the old one. This should not disturb any of your documents or applications, though you should have backups beforehand in case something goes wrong. And at this point, with your system in an uncertain state (I don't entirely know what you have done to it), something could go wrong.
You will also want to delete the old copy of Mail 4.5, wherever that is. You can't use it.
In the future, do not move any of the preinstalled applications. Leave them where they are.
