What happens if i boot with windows an install a new version of windows on mac book pro ?

I tried to install a windows on my mac book pro but i couldn't because of i don't know different problems which finally in this forum they told me u can not because of my hard disk partitions ( Link to that post) , now i am using vmware but its really slow for windows 8.1 and visual studio .
i have now a question , what happens if i boot with win 8.1 boot able DVD and install a new windows ?
the main questions are :
1. does it recognize any of my partition to select for windows installation ?
2. if no , can i format any partition for new partition during windows installation?
3. if i could install a windows , who is the boot loader ? windows or mac ? can i still boot to windows or what ?

Give your previous partition layout, you cannot install Windows via Bootcamp, unless you are willing to give up all your extra partitions and go back to EFI, OS X and RecoveryHD only configuration.

1. Windows installer will not work and you will end up with driver issues.
2. No.
3. You cannot, but if you could, the Apple Bootmanager would be your Boot Manager/Loader.

  • What are all the things needed (including perfect hard drive) to upgrade my Mid 2010 Mac Book Pro from Amazon?

    Hello,
I have a Mac Book Pro, Mid 2010, and I would like to upgrade my internal hard drive. Is there all the things I need to proform this operation from just using materials bought from Amazon. Can anyone provide me a list of tools and hard drives (500GB or more, internal, dont care if it is SSD or HD) I needed to proform this operation from just buying the things from Amazon (that uses amazon prime, for shipping)?
Also, can the Genius Bar at apple store proform this operation? Is it free? Do they provide the tools and I bring in the hard drive? And, can they sell the hard drives and use their own tools so I can just walk in the store and let them proform the upgrade (i doubt that option is free)? Thanks!

  • Windows on Mac Book Pro Anti Virus Protection

What is best antivirus for the Windows 7 for Boot Camp on my Mac Book Pro?

    Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0
    Microsoft Security Essentials
Based on MS Enterprise product and having used and tried Kaspersky (own current but only on a test system),  And I seriously consider test systems a must even for Mac OS X.
NIS2012 Beta and back to NIS2007, 360 v4. Forget the commercial folks.  Might want to look into keeping SAS and MalwareBytes around (but never have two products active, most suites are horrible enough and difficult enough).
There are people using the "top rated" products don't know what they are doing but still manage to screw things up.
I was about to try BitDefender until I read reviews of trouble installing.
    MSSE didn't get 6 Stars but Windows 7 64-bit and IE9 + MSSE 2.0 are fine.

  • What happens when you boot with no OS?

Hi, I just recently purchased a used eMac, with no OS - at least I think so. Is it wise to boot it if it has no OS, and if it is, what will happen (eg is it like Windows where it's a flashing command line?)
    Thanks in advance!

I mean that I knowingly purchased it without Mac OS - it was an eBay auction, reputable company, it's sitting on my table now. Purchased OS elsewhere, waiting for it to arrive. What I mean is that will something go wrong or get damaged if I +turn the computer on+ with no OS.
And also, does anybody know how I should go about installing OS 10.4 when I get it, with nothing on the hard drive?
    Thanks!

  • When dual-booting with Windows 7, Mac OSX time settings reset every reboot.

I have recently installed Windows 7 Professional on my mid 2010 MacBook Pro via BootCamp (Running Mavericks BTW). Everything runs grean and have not experienced any problems on the Windows side, but I have a problem with Mac OSX now. When I am using Windows 7, and I reboot into Mac OSX, I find that my time settings are wrong. It seems like my time zone has changed, because the date is correct, as well as the minutes, but the hour is always wrong. When I go to Date & Time in System Preferences, and my time zone is correct, but I still have to chage the hour in the time. Any ideas as to why this is happening and how to stop it would be greatly appreciated.

If you dual boot your Windows PC with OS X or Linux, you may have experienced a problem in which your clocks reset themselves incorrectly every time you boot into Windows. Here's a simple registry edit to fix that.
Essentially, the incorrect clock setting happens because OS X and Linux use GMT time while Windows tries to synchronize with your local time zone, getting confused when you reboot between the two. Apple's own Boot Camp drivers for Windows are supposed to fix this problem, though some users have noticed that it still happens even with the drivers installed, and some Linux users are left out in the cold. Furthermore, if you have a Hackintosh, you can't install the Boot Camp drivers, so you'll need to find another way around the problem.
To fix it, just hit Start and type regedit.exe in the search box. Hit Enter and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation. Right click anywhere in the right pane and hit New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name it RealTimeIsUniversal, then double click on it and give it a value of 1.
Lastly, reboot into OS X, then reboot back into Windows. You should now notice that your clock actually displays the correct time.

From your expertise, would you say the steps suggested on that

  • Windows on Mac Book Pro

My Dell crashed and died. I finally changed to Apple and now I am using a MacBook Pro. So, I am making the change after being on the dark side for decades so hang in there with me. Here is my issue:
I have had issues with my WildGame Innovations Trail Camera working with inserted SD cards. I can only use the on board memory that takes maybe 100+ pictures.
In trying to fix this problem so I can use an SD card in the camera. I formatted the SD card to the Apple "journaled" fomat; no luck. Changed it back to the FAT format, no luck. I figure it has to be this brand of trail camera.
I contracted Moultrie as I owned a few of their trail camera and found they were fine as long as they lasted.
I asked them if their camera worked with Apple OS and they wrote back:
Our cameras use Windows software. You would have to be able to simulate windows. You can try this.
If using Mac you may have to go to Windows Fusion VM software (This simulates windows.) Also you can try Boot Camp.
Anyone familiar with Windows Fusion VM Software and can give me pointers/warning/suggestions?
    What is "Boot Camp"?
    Thanks.

VM is less invasive, but uses memory to "simulate" Windows.  Doubling memory from 4 to 8 GB is about $60 at macsales.com, and helps with Mac OSX as well.  Easy to installyourself.
BootCamp installs Windows on the MBP, but requires drivers written by Apple to support Apple hardware, including the trackpad and Thunderbolt port.  Windows does not recognize Mac exists so will never write these device drivers.  But currently (and do not speculate ... no one but Apple Inc knows) Apple only provides device drivers for Windows 7.  Not XP, not the beta Windows 8, not Vista -- at lest not for BootCamp in Lion.
One point about VM:  If you load Windows into VM, then it now officially counts as a "Mac program", and Mac utilities will back it up.
Some people also like VM better because Windows software online can still catch viruses.  Not that Windows-based viruses run in Mac OSX, but they are on the disk.  The VM bubble is a controlled and "safe" place for Windows viruses because they can never stray past the "controlled memory" confines.
Again, read.  Then repost or ask again.

  • Bootcamp - Installing Windows on Mac Book Pro

Can I use an external hard drive ( which contains the windows.exe file, and other windows supporting documents )  to instal windows on my mac ?
I took the following steps using the BootCamp program:
1,  Created a windows install disk
              -  I selected the .iso  file located on my desktop to create the install disk. However,  the "install disk" is actually my external Seagate hard drive, not a DVD.
    2. Bootcamp support files were downloaded to my USB
    2. I then partitioned the Mac OS X hard drive  (  equally divided the space )
    3.  The Mac restarts, but then goes into a dark screen.  Nothing shows up on the screen , it's pitch black.  Seconds later, the internal cooling fans are working real fast. Real fast.   It almost feels like the Mac is overheating, and the fans are working over time.
         - I then experimented with this problem, and decided to remove the USB drive ( which as the bootcamp support docs on it ) prior to restarting the mac.  When the USB drive is removed, the Windows install setup initiates, however, the program cannot find a valid drive to install the software.
I'm thinking I might have to use an actual install disk , instead of my external hard drive to install windows .  Has anyone else encountered this issue ?

    Hi iFrausto,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand how frustrating it can be when you run into issues installing Windows on your Apple computer. In your specific situation, I would recommend reading over and using the troubleshooting provided in the following article to help you resolve this situation.

  • What are the steps to follow after you install a new Hard Drive on a 17in Macbook Pro mid 2009

I plan on installing a larger Hard Drive..the physical part is simple..but what are the steps after you close it up and hit the power button? Is there softwre on the mother board that will start the unit running??

A new Hard drive will not be Mac-formatted, so you will have to do that first. A copy of Disk Utility to do the job is also on the 10.6 Installer/Utilities DVD.
Boot to the installer DVD, but do not Install. Answer only the "what language" question, and wait a quarter minute for the menuBar to be drawn. Choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu that appears.
Select the Hardware_name of the new Drive. Partition, one partition, ( Options ), GUID partition table. Name the partition: MacIntosh HD and choose Format: Mac OS X Extended (journaled). It will complete in a minute or two, as it only rewrite the Directory area.
If you wish to shake out your drive, you can erase it and Security Erase, Zero all data, one pass. But this takes HOURS.

  • Effect of running windows on mac book pro retina

I was thinking to get the macbook pro retina 13" but  i will need to run windows on it as there are some programs that can only be run under windows.
I read on the internet that running windows on the macbook air considerably affect performance and battery life. so i was wondering is the same expected on the MBP retina?

If you've only a 'few' Windows apps that you'll need to run, I would suggest using Parallels Desktop to run Windows as a virtual machine on a 13" rMBP. It does consume some CPU/GPU time and won't run as fast as on a 15" model, but it would be sufficient for your needs. You could also run Windows 7 using Apple's Boot Camp if you want to boot to another OS from time to time.
The machine won't be affected negatively using either method.
