If you have the tracks on your hard drive, you will still be able to play. However if you have deleted tracks from your hard drive, you will not have access to matched or uploaded tracks. Purchased tracks will continue to be available to you provided you live in a region that permits redownloads.

Nothing will happen to them. Keep them backed up so that you will still have copies if your hard drive fails.
What has caused a lot of discussion, and may be the basis of your question, is the iTunes Match capability. It is an optional feature, so it will not do anything unless you sign up for it. If you do sign up for it, your MP3/320 and ALAC songs will be backed up as AAC/256 copies, which as you correctly note, is a downgrade to the audio quality.
For that reason, iTunes Match is not recommended for your situation.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

Hi Sarah,
It sounds like the songs have either not yet synced over to the iPhone, or something went wrong when attempting to sync to the iPhone. My recommendation is to uncheck the "Sync Music" checkbox.
Once you have done that, recheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes once more. This will instruct iTunes to completely remove all music from your iPhone, and then copy the files once more. If you have a large amount of music, this initial sync may take a while.

TS2972 I just updated all of our computers to itunes 11 and now when we try to use our home sharing, we can't import songs. What happened to the easily located "import song" feature? I wish now that I wouldn't have updated to the new itunes 11.

solved the issue today. first sync with itunes, so all the stiff you bought on the mobile will be backuped.
1. uncheck sync music in itunes and sync. all the music will be erased from mobile device
2. check music player on the mobile device. just the unwanted songs will still be there
3. go on the iphone to settings, general, usage, music player. there is just a few mb from the remaining unwanted songs. swipeleft and erase the content. switch iphone off and on again
4. repeat step 2. there will be no data. otherwise repeat step 3
5. check sync music in itunes and sync. all the music will be back again but not the unwanted songs.

Since I have lost my i tunes library I have re-installed most songs. However I have a large number of songs on my i pods which I would like to retrieve. If I try to load my i pods to my computer will I lose the songs which I could not get re-installed to my library but are on the i pods. Since I lost my library I have not re-introduced my i pods for updating since they too will likely have to be re-installed. Will I lose the songs already in the i pods if have to re-introduce them to my computer. A solution to this problem would be for me to transfer my lost library songs from the i pod to my library. As you will have discovered, the music sync is only one way, from iTunes to the iPod, minus iTunes purchases. On top of that, an iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.

I can no longer share my songs as e-mail attachments. What happened?

I can no longer share my songs as e-mail attachments. The only sharing options I have are for Facebook, YouTube, Soundcloud, iTunes, and as Ringtone. What happened? I'm using the Garageband App 1.4(180.6) This happened once before, and by the time I'd gotten done submitting my question, the problem was fixed.

I powered my iPad off, and started it back up. Works fine now. huh.
