What happens if you lose/break your iPad host computer?

I am migrating over to iOS from Android and I seriously dislike both iTunes and iTunes Wi-Fi sync, but the iPad is a great device. Now, I had a question about the iPad. I have a Windows laptop and a new iPad. What would happen to the media on the iPad if my computer is destroyed or stolen? Is there any way at all to recover the data without the computer that has iTunes on it?
If you can, then how is it done? If you cannot, then the iPad is a dealbreaker for me.

You can redownload iTunes purchases.
If you are using iCloud, that will have contacts, calendars, notes and bookmarks sync'd.
You can backup the iPad to iCloud but it is not a complete backup.
Click here to see what is backed up ->  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4946

You mean not getting a complete, full restore without your computer is a dealbreaker for getting an iPad.

  • What happens if you lose a store credit from a apple store?

What happens if you returned something and got a store credit from the store, but lost the credit?

Was it a retail store or the on-line store.   If it was the latter they should have a record of the receipt and be able to see if the receipt had been used (by you or someone else).  With a retail store it may be more difficult unless it was a big item or with previous history.

  • What happens after you pay off your edge device

What **… I thought vz had come back to earth… but apparently after you pay off your device (or if you just buy it outright), they charge you the subsidy portion of the line charge again.  That makes no sense whatsoever….  they charge you the same amount, whether they subsidize a phone for you or not.  That makes no sense.  People, stop paying it!!!

none of the other carriers do this anymore…  we all understand subsidies (well apparently not)…  if you go to any of the other carriers, and you do not buy a phone on contract, your service is less expensive because they don't need to recoup the money they "lost" on the phone.  But Verizon continues to charge you regardless…
If you go to ATT, you can get 10gb (yes 10), 2 smartphones off contract, 130/mo.  You can even use their version of EDGE and still pay that same amount (plus your device payment)… and guess what, when your done paying for your phone, they don't increase your service charge.  If you do the same on VZ, your bill will also be 130, but when you pay off your phone, they jack your bill up to 180….
I think if VZ just came out and said "Look, we are the best, so we charge more.  Period."  I'd respect that…

  • HT1766 what happens when you cannot remember your password to restore the backup?

I am trying to update my iPhone and I cannot remember the password I used for my backup. How can I get round this please?

You can't.  If you can't remember the password you can't use the backup.  If there were a way around this it would defeat the purpose of having password protection.

  • HT5312 what happens if you forget your security questions

what happens if you dont know your security questions

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

  • What do you do if your iPad's battery loses some of it's capacity?

My iPad stayed on the charger way to long and now it's battery has shorted out and I need a solution to restore it to its full capacity so any help would be appreciated .

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

    Hi Gumby694,
You can only get the profile back if you plug into a computer that has the configuration profile in Apple Configurator or get the profile wirelessly from an MDM.

What are those apps which are promoted on " why you 'll love your ipad " page. I mean there r some pictures of ipads , and i'm really curious about that apps which are in the screen, cause i 'd like to try them.

    Edgy44 wrote:

Most likely because they are not apps. They are background processes the OS is runnning.
I would expect as the owner to have  some sort of explanation of who the 3rd party is, why there apps are apprearing on your ipad without permission, and maybe the ramifications of taking off or at least turning them off.  Its not rocket science, people.  It really about our rights as pople, right???
I suggest you sell your iPad and not worry about it any longer.

  • HT4527 What happens when you can't authorize anymore computers?

I have authorized 4 computers at this point for my itunes data due to computers breaking and I wanted to know what happens when you cant authorize anymore computers. How would you get everything you bought?

Then you need to de-authorize some computers or get another Apple ID. If you no longer have some computers that are still authorized:
About De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
    Open iTunes on a computer
From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
Also, see iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.

What happens when I purchase a new iPad? How Will my music, photos and information transfer? Does iCloud hold all of that, if so how do I access it?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
When you set up iCloud on a new device, you will get photos from Photo Stream (you will have to transfer them to the device), your contacts, calendars, notes, reminders and your iCloud mail address. All of this will be done automatically by iCloud when you log in iCloud on your device.
To transfer your purchased music, see > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519 Also, if you have the music on your computer, just connect the iPad to the computer and sync it with iTunes to get your apps, movies, music...
