What happens to a logged in user?

Sorry for the newbie question, but I'm a recent "switcher". I need to access my new iMac from work pc and plan on using VNC or something similar. (I could use my Mac laptop and Apple Remote Desktop, too). I was just wondering what will happen if my wife is logged into the iMAc at home when I log in? Under Windows, she would be booted off, but I was reading about 'fast user switching' and it made me think there might be a way for me to log into the machine under my account, and allow her to continue working on the machine under her account? Pipe dreams?
Thanks

only one account can be logged in and actively using the Finder and GUI at a time. thus, you can't login and control the computer at the same time your wife is. nothing exist for Macs that allows this.

  • What happens to EJB transaction when user stops/reloads JSP?

My JSP application uses container managed EJBs. Frequently, my stateless
              session beans manipulate entity beans.
Does anyone have any documentation about whether or not a containter-managed
EJB transaction will roll-back in the event that a user clicks "Stop" or
"Reload" while the bean transaction is processing?

Clicking stop has no effect if the request has already left the browser. It
just prevents the display of the result. There is nothing you can do about
              that.
A real problem is if they get impatient and click your link or button
repeatedly and the back end transaction is (for example) putting a charge
repeatedly on their credit card. Best way to solve that is to id the
transaction before it happens (build it in as part of the url or action) and
              only process that id once.

  • What happens to the logs?

I've noticed that if I need to go back in the logs, that depending on the amount of activity, I can see back anywhere to only a few days or up to a couple months.
I usually use console and click on all the mail.log files in the left column. Sometimes though, some date rages are missing from the middle.
    Anyway, my questions are:
    1. Should I be using something other than console to read the logs?
    2. When I get back as far as it lets me view, is that it? Aren't they archived somewhere, or are they gone? I'm hoping that all the logs since the server was set up are saved somewhere.
    3. If the logs are not saved, is there a way to have them automatically emailed to me every time they turn over?
    Thanks!
    Scott

you may backup archived log files using RMAN and delete files after backing them up, an example script:
         RMAN> run {
         2> allocate channel dev1 type disk;
         3> backup
         4> format '/app/oracle/arch_backup/log_t%t_s%s_p%p'
         5> (archivelog all delete input);
         6> release channel dev1;
         7> }

  • Logged in users

    Hello,
We have very strange things happening concerning the logged-in users list :
    1) We have users that stay logged eternally, they stay in the logged-in list, nevertheless they are not connected.
    2) In the logged-in list we see numbers instead of usernames.
We made a connection to AD groups for the authentication, what is going on out here ?
Many thanks for a quick response.

    Hello,
This happens when we do a replication from one system to an other. The system does a switch to the backup and something happens with accounts that are open, they stay open, this is only very briefly, so not a lot accounts become corrupt.
The network devices are all our AP's, accounting is configured on
aaa accounting exec default start-stop group tac_acct
aaa accounting commands 15 default start-stop group tac_acct
    aaa accounting network acct_methods start-stop group rad_acct
    aaa accounting network acct_methods1 start-stop group rad_acct1
aaa accounting connection default start-stop group tac_acct
aaa accounting system default start-stop group tac_acct

  • What happens in EP technically when we click on some folder?

    Hi Experts,
I have following question - what happens in EP technically when user clicks on some folder?
I just want to know the exact sequence of events that takes place - I know some of the events like the role of user is checked. Then system checks that what all pages, iviews, etc have been been assigned to folder. The system then finally displays the all objects under the folder.
But I want to know in depth what happens some thing at core programming level.
In fact in my project we have created 2 folder. Some iviews have been assigned to folder.
Suppose name of folders are A and B. We want to pass value 1 to SAP BW when A is selected. We want to pass value 2 to SAP BW when B is selected.
    How we can do so?
    Pls help.
    Thanks

    Hi Kedar,
Thanks for the help. In fact in my project we have created separate folders.
For some functionality we have created 5 iviews and assigned it to folder A.
For some functionality we have created 5 iviews and assigned it to folder B.
We have to pass  Value Type = 1 to BW for iviews of folder A.
We have to pass  Value Type = 2 to BW for iviews of folder B.
How this can be done? Please help.
    Thanks

Ever sense I updated Safari, I need to log on every time I visit a forum, what happened?

Open Keychain Access located in /Applications/Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
Use the search field top right corner of that window to find the MLB keychain. Now right or control click that keychain then click Delete.
Now in Safari go to the Safari menu bar top of your screen, click Safari > Preferences then select the Autofill tab.
Make sure User names and passwords is selected.
Navigate to the MLB site (forums), login with your user name and password. You should be prompted to save that data to a new keychain. Click Yes.
Sometimes keychains can become corrupted and need replacing. The next time you revisit that site you should not have to enter the password.

  • What is a "logged in user" on the "Active Sessions" report in CF8 Server Monitor?

I was looking at the Active Sessions Report (The Chart View) and saw I have more "logged in users" than "active sessions".
I had expected them to be nearly the same.    It's on our Intranet where I log users in (using cflogin and cfloginuser) at the begining of their session and users should be logged when the session ends.
I couldn't find a detailed explaination of what a "logged in user" means.   There is a chance that the same user is logged into a nested application as well as the Intranet, but I don't think that is what I'm seeing.
I also don't see a way to get a list of what CF is counting as a logged in user.  I can only see a way to get the total count.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Thank you Michael for the reply, but I don't think that is the issue.
When a user opens their browser on the intranet, a session begins and they are logged in (using the cflogin and cfloginuser).    If they close their browser, the session should hang around for 20 min. (per the server setting).   I am assuming this is still considered an "Active Session" since I can see this behavior in the report.
At first, the Active Sessions and Logged In Users are exactly the same.   When the sessions start to time out, the active sessions are reduced,  but the Logged In Users remain the same.    Then,  after a while, they start to move together.  So I have more Logged In Users than Active Sessions.
I left the Server Monitor open last night and for most of the night, I had 0 sessions, but 57  "logged in users".   This morning, as people opened their browsers, the Active Sessions and Logged In Users moved together.   The gap of 57 looks consistent.
It looks like people are remaining logged in after their session ended.
I am really looking for a detailed explaination of "active session" and/or "logged in user" as used in the server monitor.  It would be really nice to find a way to list the details about each item counted in the "logged in user" and not just the total count.
    Thanks Again for your reply.

  • What happens when multiple users access the same servlet?

Do the users share all the same resources? Or is a new process generated for each user? I have a servlet that builds a string to return to the user and I only have myself to test, so I can't really see what happens when many users access the servlet. Is there a possibility that the string will get screwed up, like when dealing with multiple threads, or do all the users get their own resources and I don't have to worry about that?

huh? if you can point a test servlet at it, you can point a browser at it (even if the servlet does not serve html it will run)
try pasting the servlet URL into a web browser
refreshing multiple browsers repeatedly could provide a manual test

  • Please document what happens with INSERT...LOG ERRORS INTO + ROLLBACK

I posted this question on AskTom at and Tom suggested I open an iTar. However, I'm on XE, so that route is not open to me. So, for what it's worth, I'm making a request here in the hope that Oracle will do something about it, even though it's not an XE-specific issue.
Specifically, the article by Natalka Roshak at
    http://www.orafaq.com/node/76
    says:
"It seems that DML errors are logged as an autonomous transaction; rolling back
the DML that spawned the error does not clear the error logging table."
Can you please document this? An ideal place would be in INSERT, UPDATE, and MERGE topics in the SQL Reference.
I did find a passage in the Administrator's Guide that reads:
"If the statement exceeds the reject limit and rolls back, the error logging table retains the log entries recorded so far."
However, nowhere (that I can find) does it specify what happens if the statement does not exceed the reject limit and you subsequently roll back the transaction
    explicity.
    Thanks.

    Brian,
Thanks for pointing this out. As Tom mentioned on AskTom, he'll file a documentation bug.

Thanks for the help, Allan Sampson.
I updated itunes, shut the phone off and on, it still didn't give me blue bubbles. Kept following the suggestions on the page ...  I didn't know there was an IMessaging switch, but, shoot, it was OFF. Anyway, I toggled it on and now the text bubbles are blue again.
